Hey, I downloaded a ROM and I want to flash it.
The problem is that this ROM includes in it's ZIP many apps that I don't need.
Can I just open the ZIP using WinRar and delete everything I don't need?
Another questiong that I just thought of,
how can I make my own theme?
Is there a software for this?

No, entire zip is needed for flashing Rom.there is no need to extract anything from zip:thumbup:

I didn't mean to extract, just deleting throw WinRar.

Ok, also deleting is not needed, because entire zip has to be flashed for your success with flashing rom, as there are scripts/apps etc
Odesláno z mého Galaxy Nexus pomocí Tapatalk 2
Okay,
so if I'll edit the script and remove from him the apps that I don't want,
then delete their APK, they won't be installed and there will be no problem?
Be careful what you delete, there are many things that may break functionality if removed.

Theoretically yes, but be careful, as needed files could be deleted by error.
I would suggest install full zip and after successful installation not needed apps could be removed/uninstalled

yes you can! depending on what kind of apps you want to delete: unzip, open system file, open apps file, delete unwanted apps (but not essential ones!!), zip all folders together.
or you can just flash rom, then using root explorer go to system>apps, delete unwanted apps, reboot
That's what I usually do, but I thought it can save me some time and space.
Anyway, I still have my second question (making theme).

umm depends.. are u usin 7zip? also windows are ubuntu? either way just try it and if it doesnt work then toggle the signature thingy in clockwork, and you can use this to resign
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246
You can also extract the Rom on your phone with Root Explorer or the equivalent, then go in and make your changes, then simply delete the two "cert" files, and the "manifest" file that are in the "Metainfo" folder.
Re-zip it using Root Explorer, and you'll be good to go.
(Of course, you'll have to have the unsigned zips allowed thing toggled in whichever recovery you're using...but this works the easiest, IMHO.)

Thanks for all the responses! I use Calkulin's ROM, but still way too many apps on first boot. I hate going through TB and deleting all the unnecessary and unwanted apps. I'll try it and get back to y'all. Probably on the next update of Calkulin though...

Just open in 7zip, remove what you want, and flash.

This is correct. Simple and easy and doesn't jack up anything up.
I have multiple .zips that I flash for inverted gapps and I was wondering was there anyway I could combine them into one flashable .zip file so I don't have to flash each one individually. I suspect it would take more than just putting all the .zips into one .zip, right?
Also, I'm on a mac. I can access a windows computer if necessary but it would be nice to do it all from my mac

Not really, no. Just unzip all your files, organize them all together ignoring duplicates, then re-zip.

When I unzip each .zip I get the folder that contains the data, META-INF and system folders inside. Where do I go from there? Do I compress all the separate folders into one .zip? I've never done this before so sorry for the seemingly obvious questions!
If they are all just apps from the system folder, simply take every apk out of each zip and place them in the system folder of one of the zips (using 7-zip) then flash it.

I was thinking that but I was also wondering if the other files inside contributed to each individual apps theming of some sort. But thanks for the tip! I will try that on my next ROM flash

The meta-inf folder tells it where to install and sets the proper permissions.

Ah, thank you for clarifying
So, would it be possible to, in addition to customizing which apps load on flashing the "re-zipped" ROM, also add a kernel to be flashed along with the ROM all in one flash? Or would the kernel need to be baked into the from?

In theory this would be possible, but it would be more complicated then flagging a few system apps.
There are 2 points I need some help at.
1. Is there a possibility to remove (automatically) some apps after each ROM install? Even with a striped ROM, there are some apps that I don't need or I want replaced.
2. How can I make a pack of my personal apps that should be automatically installed (silent install, no confirmation for each app)?

I dont think there is.. if you really wanna do that you gotta run some sort of script through terminal or something..

1: u can manually delete them with root explorer
2: either with titanium backup or make a zip and flash through recovery
You could also open the update.zip in WinZip remove the things you don't want and drag the files or .apk into it.

How to install apps at cwm?
When I install new rom, I have some apps to install, but I should install file utility app first.
if possible, please let me know how to install apps at cwm.
Thanks in advance.
Well gapps is exactly the same as installing the rom, if it a general app then why would you do it through cwm? If its on your SD then download a file manager and install through there, make sure you have unknown sources checked in settings as well

you mean flashable zip? just choose "install zip from sd card" like you choose zip for ROM
Are you trying to say each time you flash a Rom you want an automatic way of installing your applications after?
You could just make an 'update.zip' that contain your applications.

if you want your app included in your rom.
you can extract the rom.
and pick your app to "system/app/" after that zip your rom like before.
and then flash the zip via CWM.

app1, app2, app3, .. -> 7zip -> apps.zip

A simple way to create an update.zip is with e.g.: Titanium BackUp. It has an option for it. Just pick all apps you want and it creates a flashable zip file.

edit: I just realized I gave you "false info", TB only creates update.zip, which only contains Titanium BackUp app... sooory...

Yes, manually delete the files that the update.zip installed, of course you would then have to replace the originals if it replaced any. Best thing is to create a backup before installing.

Or just install any backup app from market like (my backup) and backup your apps. then just restore backup you made when flash new rom.

So basically I have to reinstall the ROM because I had no backup :crying:
Well thanks anyway!
There is an app in Play Store named "App2Zip". Try it!
I have a Gnex with JBSourcery v4.3
I recently browsed the forums and saw there was a new version(v5). I downloaded the rom and GAPPS for it. Plugged my Gnex into my computer via USB and transferred the files to the root directory.
I went to recovery to wipe/flash but NONE of the roms on my phone(even the v4.3 JBSourcery I had from earlier this year) were no where to be found. I loaded my phone back up(after restoring of course) and connected USB again, all of the files are there(even the new ones).
What's the deal? I don't see ANYTHING when I go to apply update from SD card except default folders(android, DCIM, etc). not one single file is to be found.
ANy idea?

Did you turn on encryption? Because cwm is not able to list encrypted partitions.I prefer to use twrp recovery.
Edit: if you can list other folders this is not related to encryption. I would suggest to check that there really exists zip files in your update folder or permissions are ok for your files.
Btw are you aware of 0 folders in your path listing?

i don't know what encryption is or really any of the stuff you mentioned. i've had this phone since the fall and have had 0 problems flashing roms(cm10, jbsourcery, etc). this is the first time i've not been able to see any zip files in recovery.
can any one help me?
Have you trotted pointing your recovery to the proper folder? It seems that you may have an issue with nested directories.
