I'm having trouble rooting my SGH-T889, running stock 4.1.2 rom, with Odin. Odin gets stuck after "Get pit for mapping". Then it will give an error message. I also tried Heimdall (both on Windows and Linux). On Windows, Heimdall gives me a libusb error. On Linux, I get the following error message:
Failed to receive PIT file part #16!

I tried installing, uninstalling, and reinstalling the Samsung drivers. I tried the Galaxy Note 2 Root Toolkit. Nothing has work so far.
I should also mentioned that I charged my device prior to attempting the above, and I also tried several different usb cables/ports.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Is it possible to root via adb sideload?

I'm a newb at rooting, so please bare with me. I currently have the Sprint Epic Touch 4G with firmware 4.0.4 and build FL24. Last night I tried to root my phone with the ODIN 1-Click method. Being the newb that I am, I didn't realize that I downloaded the FI27 Kernel from rwilco12' site.
So booted my phone into Download/Odin Mode. Started the 1-Click ODIN kernel and plug my phone in. The root process started but failed after a few minutes. Now, everytime I boot my phone up, I get an error message "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue..."
I'm at a loss at what I should do. Thanks in advance for any help!

If your phone boots into anything, all is not lost. Have you tried the one-click again? Sometimes it doesn't take. Read the directions you're following very correctly again, reinstall the one click. And in the future, read, check, read again double check, and never stop reading. We were all noobs once, just takes patience, trial and error, and alot of reading . Good luck!

Yes, I've tried reinstalling the same ROM as well as the FL24 stock ROM multiple times. The issue remains the same however. I still get the failed message in ODIN and the error message on the phone when I reboot it.

Have you tried different ports, cords? Try a different oneclick? If you're flashing the same oneclick and keep having issues, might be a corrupt file. Download again using pc(not phone) or try a different stock oneclick. If all else fails, reinstall usb drivers, Kies, Odin, and start over ..Sucks, I know, but necessary sometimes.

I've tried the FI27 and FL24 One-Clicks, 4 different USB ports and 3 different cords. All downloads have been on the PC. Reinstalled the USB driver twice. So frustrating.
I did some snooping and found this thread. Read leaderbuilder's post(first reply). See if that at least gets you back up and running. Then we'll proceed from there.

Hi guys,
I bought my n7100 in China. Previously I successfully flashed it with phoenix v13, then phoenix v14.
Unfortunately since v15 and also N3 wifi has not worked. I tried the suggested solutions with bootloader path and wifi path but ODIN doesn't work.
Odin just fails every time I try to flash with pathes. I tried two different computers with windows XP and Vista, different usb ports. No results.
Any suggestions?

Try install of V15 once more by formating SD card first that should completely wipe every thing...
or else try to flash prerooted deodexed MK4 base via odin and then flash V15...
But check with Tamir / Dr Ketan as well they would know better..

Unfortunately it didn't work for me.
I've also tried with Odin on Windows 7. No results.
So summing up: I tried both Phoenix v15 and DN3 roms after full wipe, clearing internal sd card. I ended up with no WIFI.
Odin didn't work for me on (win xp, Vista, 7) with the newest USB firmware.
What to do?
Did you try a different usb cable they can cause issues with connection to the pc and odin

Only that option I haven't tried, however I bought my cable from an official Samsung distributor. Anyway I bought it in China, so there are always doubts of originality.
Before I use another cable there is maybe another solution - without using ODIN. It's low probability that the reason is because of the cable.
Anybody knows?

Another one i can think of is Mobile Odin but Mobile Odin will not work in flashing boatloader. but probably can work with wifi patch. but again try on your own risk.

Heimdall detected, there was only one thing I needed to do: sudo chmod 666 /dev/bus/usb/001/00** after pluging the phone then it proceeded, however broke the phone. Still I haven't managed to repair. Maybe it's NAND problem.
I have 1.5.27 usb driver. I tried also 1.5.23 before.
Hi
Does anyone know how to fix wifi without using ODIN? I know dr.ketan and BL_MJ5_DN3 bootloader patches, but simply ODIN doesn't work for me (tried on win XP, Vista, 7, different USB slots).
After trying to write to NAND it fails. My phone version is gt-n7100. Is any chance that a new ROM occur soon with already fixed WIFI?
Any other solution for patching without ODIN?
Thanks for help!
As far as im led to believe odin is the only way but I may be wrong can you not get the lend of a friends laptop and try it. I did mine yesterday and it only takes a couple of minutes if you have the files downloaded.

In Odin I couldn't read the error code. Just after trying to write in NAND it failed, that's whole message i got. I did everything according to the procedure. On some computers there were no Kies and it failed as well. I have all versions of Odin... Run as admin...
Well, it might be the cable issue, it might be Chinese version of phone... however it's gt-n7100.
Hi Everyone, I actually have a SGH-I317m (Rogers Note 2), but thought I would post here since this gets more traffic.
I have been having constant problems with Odin trying to flash files to my Note 2.
Currently using the factory Samsung USB cable, disconnecting any other USB devices connected (BT gamepad) to my computer, and being sure to run Odin as "Administrator" in Windows 7 (64bit).
I've used the recommended Odin 1.85 as well as the latest Odin 3.x, with the newest release being somewhat more reliable.
Basically I've grown too paranoid to try and flash custom roms, and even the root package to my phone in fear of a permanent soft brick. KIES failed to update my phone to stock 4.3, so I then used Odin to flash it. I recently tried to flash a root package, which failed every time, then my stock image, which failed about 14 out of 15 tries. Once the Stock ROM flashed successfully, I breathed a sigh of relief and gave up.
Is there something specific that could be causing Odin to fail so consistantly? My phone is stock 4.3,recovery, unrooted, with locked bootloader and SIM.
I've seen recommendations that a Factory Reset be performed after flashing a new ROM, which I have not done. What is the logic behind this?
I'd be willing to try, but without root (aka without Titanium BackUp) a Wipe is not ideal. That being said, if I put all these flashing issues behind me, I'd happily give it a try.
I am curious to try Mobile Odin as well, which of course requires root.
The fact that both Odin and Kies failed to flash my device is curious. I'd like some suggestions on how to proceed.
I'd be happy not flashing custom ROMs, however I do feel that root access is a requirement for my usage.
Anyone?

search for newest samsung mobile usb driver... make sure its the latest one and download it
uninstall the good for nothing kies software... reboot your pc and install the samsung mobile usb driver.
then connect your device and let windows reinstall the driver....
then try odin again.
Thanks. I ditched Kies once it failed to flash my device, then failed to recover it.
I will try reinstalling the driver. The one I have installed likely came from the "Galaxy Note 2 Toolkit", which hasn't been updated awhile.
I will try and report back.

Interesting. Samsung's Canadian site does not have USB drivers, and the US version doesn't include my model... I will keep digging.

Ok, I've resolved my issues and will post here for others should they have the same. My issue was caused by usb drivers. Uninstall Kies, and any Samsung drivers you may have installed. Reboot your pc, and install the latest Samsung drivers from here, for your device.
http://m.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SGH-I317TSAATT
After, plug in your phone, and let Windows install what it needs. Then proceed with Odin as normal.
Thanks to everyone for their help.

Probly the Knox counter. From what I've heard if you flash anything including a stock file with no mods it trips it. No positive if this applies to you but read this link: http://omegadroid.co/wanted-knox-void-warranty-0x1/

I'd suggest you reinstall the samsung USB drivers.. I have the best luck reinstalling from KIES. Looking at your pic I don't see the device detected-- should be listed in one of the two rows below your "FAIL" -- its not seeing your device yet. Should say "COM1:" or something there if memory serves..
I fought doing this for a couple days from within a Windows VM on mac (running VMware fusion) and it was a total bust, had to run odin from a PC in the end (bootcamp on the mac but thats another story) and it never actually saw my device-- looked just like what you have until I got the drivers running.
