So I was wondering if T-Mobile had refarmed my area with the 1900 MHz frequency...I used pasted *#*#4636#*#* into my phone dialer and I pressed the menu button and selected the USA (1900) Band...I was on Edge, so I realized T-Mobile did not refarm my area yet...However, my phone is stuck on the 1900 MHz band...I can't go back to AWS for some reason. I've tried rebooting and reflashing my radio, but to no avail...I'm on AOKP 4.2.2 (March 22 nightly) with Cerux Kernel. I was wondering if anyone had a clue as to how to return to 1700 MHz(AWS)
Surprised that you got the code to work on a jb rom. None of the codes work except imei on mine. You have to go into service mode and find phone settings for band *#32489#. Hit back a few times and you will see the menu if you can get the code to work. It still works on gb roms but not on jb for me

So, do I have to flash another ROM? I just restored a nandroid of SlimBean, but it's still stuck on Edge...
Yes get a gb rom. Then type *#*#197328640#*#* into dialer and it will give you service mode menu. From there find band settings and you will be able to change frequency. Once you change it you can reinstall a jb rom and settings will stick

I would hold off on blaming the phone, as I myself this week have had to switch airplane mode and do reboots to get out of edge/no data.

So I'm at school where fortunately we have lte, but lately my phone only connects to 3g unless I reboot while in campass. But even after class I go back outside and have to reboot again to connect to lte. Anyone else have an issue like this???

I'm having the same issue.
Full LTE available at work. Some days, it's stays on 4G throughout my entire shift. Sometimes when I use my phone for daily tasks such as web/sms/calls it drops off to 3G and stays there til I reboot then 4G comes back again. Strange.
Are you running CM or a TW ROM?

You must be on 100 percent stock.
Interesting, I might give this a try.

Thanks! Worked like a charm! Coworkers phone was on stock ROM, stuck a ATT sim and made a call. No data but that's probably a APN thing

I'm running FrostyJB v11.
The #932# USSD code doesn't work for me, either.
Conformed working also shows proof of supported LTE bands.
Worked like a charm, running Frosty JB v9.
To all the people that are getting the following error and also using a TouchWiz ROM:
USSD Code Running...
Unable to Process Request
When you enter the *#197328640# code into the keypad, make sure you include the * (asterisk) in the front.
***EDIT: I performed this on my SGH-T999 (T-Mobile) and someone else's SGH-I747 (AT&T), both running absolutely STOCK, then switched our SIMs, and BOTH phones are working perfectly with the other's SIM.***
Worked perfectly on Frosty JB V11. Tested with AT&T sim and I could make and receive phone calls. Will test data later today.

You have to be stock or running a ROM based off of stock like Frosty or other ROMs based off Stock. ParanoidKand, CM10, AOKP, those are all AOSP ROMs which dont have the T-Mobile USSD codes embeded in them.
Its simple, create a nandroid, flash Frosty(easier than odining back to stock) apply this tweak and then restore your nandroid. Your unlock should stay as its not ROM dependent. (Its exactly the steps im about to do in a couple of minutes after downloading frosty )
Seems like workd on my wicked rom 2.1, since i am able to run all those codes.
But how do i checked if it worked? I dont have other sim

I'm not sure how this could be any proof of LTE support, it just proves that a GSM phone from T-Mobile can talk to another GSM network provider.

So I downloaded and flashed the LiquidSmooth that i got from galaxys2rootdotcom since I couldnt find any downloads here.. Im on android 4.1.2 Of course, running mod version Liquid-JB-v2.0-RC8 and kernel [email protected] #1.
Now to the problems, The main one is my data its constantly switching from H+ down to H then back to 3g Then H, H+. Tried switching the network mode and that didnt work went into my apn settings and changing the protocol from Ipv4 to ipv4/ipv6 that didnt work either, keep in mind i unlocked my phone and now running off straight talk via the at&t sim.
Second is the gps, tried going to maps and getting directions and it wouldnt show my location.
Third is the calling, when i call people they told me it sounds like im in a tunnel. So its probably echoing.
Hopefully I can get some answers and maybe help others who have the same problems.

have you confirmed you APN settings are entered correctly? these settings allow you to connect to data, SMS, MMS, etc. i'd also confirm your IMEI is still present.

I don't think I had to configure any APN settings. I did connect to my local router.
I see an IMEI preset, dBm, signal strength.
I'm thinking of just trying a new rom.

Connecting to your router has nothing to do with your APN. (If that's what you were inferring). Did you at least confirm your APN settings are there? With some ROMs you might have to manually add them.

Hey all, I'm at my wits end trying to figure out what's going on with my phone/service. First off I hope this is the correct forum since none of them officially address the US Cellular version of the S3.
So what is happening is that my device seems to only want to connect to 3G. I am running the latest nightly for CM 10.1. It all started last week while I was in the twin cities on data roaming for a few days. On my drive back to Wisconsin I notice I would go in and out of 4G service.. by the time I hit home I was on solid 3G service. This was last Friday. I knew there was some work going on the towers in the area as my brothers 4G service started working on Sprint. I just assumed it was something to do with that.
By Sunday and still on 3G, I called tech and they did everything under the sun to try to get me back on 4G to no avail. They ended up sending me a new phone. When the new phone arrived on Tuesday I did a factory reset on the old phone just to clear everything before sending it to them and I noticed it went back on to 4G. This was on the stock ROM, rooted still.
So I switched the phone over to the new one and sure as hell, comes up in 4G. I replaced the recovery and restored a backup I had.. phone pops up.. 3G. :crying:
I did a factory reset a few times and nothing.. still would only come up in 3G mode. I then restored a backup I had for the stock ROM and what do you know.. 4G. Flashed a fresh download of the stable 4 snapshot.. 3G.. then I did a factory reset and what do you know .. 4G.. reboot the phone.. back on 3G.. Tried AOKP.. 3G..factory reset.. 3G.. Back to CM 10.1 nightly.. 3G.. factory reset.. 4G.. reboot.. 3G.
I cannot figure out what the hell is going on.. it clearly isn't hardware as it's now happened on two phones. I thought it might have had to do with being on data roaming for a few days so I waited until the data billing cycle finished (the 6th) but no luck.
I'm at wits end.. I will try anything at this point to get it working again with CM/AOKP.. doesn't matter.. just want my 4G back!
Your phone does not have 4G, It has HPSA.
On AOSP/AOKP, your connection will show up as 3G until it's being used. Let's see some speedtests.
Don't go by what it says in the ststus bar. What does it say inder Settings > About Device > Mobile Network type?
Now go start a large download, like a rom or something. While its downloading check again and post what you see.

Speeds
Thanks for the quick responses guys..
First thing was my status bar was showing 4G for about a year.. it was just recently I started having the issue. I used to get about 20Mb/sec down and now I'm getting about 800Kb-1.5Mb. It's clearly much slower than it was.
And the network type is CDMA - EvDo rev A:6
Try going under Settings, More Settings, Mobile Networks, and try a different network mode.

Its selected as LTE/CDMA/EvDo. The only other option is CDMA/EvDO. I think it's set correctly.

Not sure what you mean by network operators but the CDMA subscription is set to RUIM/SIM (which it should be) and the System Select is on Automatic and not Home Only.
Model is SCH-R530U
Under mobile networks you can manually search for and then select an operator.
Judging by your model number, you will likely find more and better help and probably others with your phone in the Verizon forum. (Possibly Sprints, but most likely Verizon)

Everything I've read involves going back to stock, factory reset, and reflashing. Is there any way to resolve this without reverting to stock? Or is that the only way? - Does it need to be unrooted? And also, one thing I was curious about, I have a stock backup, would flashing that, and then reflashing to a current CM backup do anything, or does it need to be a clean flash?
I would go totally back to stock and start over. It wouldn't even take more than an hour to do everything.

Yup, if you're having problems, taking shortcuts often result in more problems and more time involved than just starting over clean.
