Bad 3g connection on Xperia s - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

I get like 15-20 kb DL max outside with full signals. How are other people getting? You can use speedtest.net from play store to check your speeds..

From Singapore? It varies from 15-400kb. I think Singapore's 3g network is one of the worse in the world

Nah, i'm using Sunrise (Switzerland). I think this one's better than Orange here lol. And when i activate data, it shows "E" instead of "3G". What does that suppose to mean lol?
How can i check that the preference is correct?
EDIT: I've chosen "WCDMA only"
EDIT 2: Yeah so my phone is using EDGE "E" instead of "3G". Any idea how i can enable 3G? or it's just not possible with my network?

Just contact your customer care about 3g options.

Are you sure does your carrier provides 3g facility?...And your phone shows only ''E'' or ''3g'' as well....

Actually, i happened to get "H" today outside in a new area which probably stands for "HSPDA" and i was getting around 800kb/sec DL which is decent i believe...so 3g is working, just not in the "area" i'm living in but since i'm moving my house soon, there won't be a problem anymore.

So no problem with Xperia S....solved.

I'm curious to know what speeds are like on roaming also, I could prob do it and not get terminated with Sprint cuz I dont use a lot of data. Although I'm getting about 2 megs down anyway, so not to bad.
I wish I could get those 4G speeds! they don't have it around me, it's in like one city in michigan right now smh.

Have you noticed this yet?? ???

Not sure if this is an anomaly or not you I'm picking up 3g and 4g on the phone plus the capable of LTE....

You can go to s4gru.com and check to see if there are live towers near you... though I think we can assume there are.

Oy, here we go again.....prl's have nothing to do with your speed, it tells the device how to scan for various wireless cell systems, which ones are native, and which priority to use them in.

Although generally PRL updates will not help your coverage XXX13 adds several Band Class 10 (800mhz) SIDs for certain areas including Atlanta, California and Texas. These were not in any previous PRLs as they were the previous Nextel bands. Anyone in the affected areas will definitely benefit from this update.

Getting full 4g T-mobile speeds on ZL?

T-mobile limits 4g speeds on unlocked phones apparently. I tested a t-mobile samsung galaxy and my xperia zl running 4.2.2 , baseband 9x15a kernel 3.4.0 and seems like there's a big difference. In a bad spot, the galaxy was getting about 6mbps, wheres my phone was at 0.30mbps. Whereas on good spots, galaxy got about 23, and zl got about 13mbps.
Anyone have any suggestions how to get the full 4G speed of T-mobile network. i am in the LA, California region.
I have a ZL and live in Long Beach... Also with T-Mobile. My LTE speeds average about 25mbps. I've even gotten almost 50 once but that may have been a fluke. I suspect it may be your area or just how how the ZL picks up the signal.

Thanks, we have the same baseband, still seems odd. can you also post the screenshot of your APN settings from settings> mobile networks>access point names> (select whichever is active). I'll match it and then test to see if it's any use.
I currently have fast.t-mobile.com as the APN.
Hmmm... seems like reasonably decent numbers...

Hopefully this is of some help. I do think its quite possibly just the area and how each phone receives the signal. But who knows... There could be more going on then I know.

Tmobile has a really great LTE network in the East Coast. The more you go towards Texas or California, the speeds become slower and slower. D:
