Pac in black - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

First off...Let me say that this is a sweet rom, Love the inverted apps & getting good battery life running Jb for a change., & everything works great, most importantly the sound. But what is the deal really with the "tiny font" on Sys settings?? I had to change the display to Huge & is still kindly small?? Was this in order to fit all the numerous options & scripts in??
(just curious)..

What font are you using?
Try verdana or Helvetica S, this may make it easier to see.

On this one...How do you even change the font, ive always used roboto, or something related to that size all other times, say on Kuban, which there is an abundance of opps, but all i get in settings is size??

Go to settings, display, font style.
I use verdana, its an ample font..
I have an apk if your interested.

Aosp doesn't handle fonts the same way as touchwiz. You have to install the font as a .ttf into the /system/font folder overwriting the original then change permissions to rw-r-r then reboot

Home button issue in PIB, and PA issue in nightlies
I just recently had a warranty issue with my phone, and got a "certified replacement". I went to re-install the most recent version of PAC in black, and had issues with the hardware home button doing nothing. The button would cause the phone to vibrate, but nothing would happen beyond that. Holding the button, which would normally bring up the recent apps menu wouldn't work either. If anyone has any idea if this may be a setting within the ROM that I could easily change, or if it is actually something worse, it'd be helpful to know.
But as I can't work with a phone that does not have a working home button, I decided to try the nightly build, and am also having an issue there. It seems that the Paranoid Preferences menu has an issue where the pop-up window in the per-app settings seems to assume my screen is bigger than it is, and over-sizes the window, so about the last fifth to the right is not on-screen, which means the accept button is not accessible. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the ROM itself, if it is an issue coming directly from the Paranoid Settings apk, or something that is unique to my phone, but I figured that I'd put it out here to see if anyone had ideas.
Any advice on either issue would be appreciated. I did not see any other threads for PAC-man, PAC in black, or the nightly builds, so I figured this would be the best place for both questions, as they are the same ROM, short the change in color scheme. Thanks.

Inverted GAPPS
I was going to try out the new Beanstalk Rom but i want to use the BAKED inverted gapps. Will that mess anything up?

No, but I would use the slim gapps because you can toggle the light/dark theme with this dark stalk button

EL29db will not work for flashing modems.
You must use EL26+CWM

So the stock el26 with cust recovery? Not rogue rec or whatever? Do you have a link?

ICS ROM

So I am currently running FC05 and its nice, really enjoying it. I do have a couple questions tho...What are the differences in FB27 and FC05?
Also is there a non touch wiz version of ICS for the Epic Touch? I would really like to use vanilla ICS. Thanks in advance!

CM9 & AOKP are both great ROMs that are based on stock ICS.

The newer the build the more smooth and "ironed out" the rom will be. So yes, eg. FC05 is better than FB27 and so forth. Check the themes and apps section for a flashable "theme". Follow instructions and read read read. Hope that helps

Im under the impression that you can clear defaults on 'TwLauncher' and switch to the native android launcher? Just not themed i guessed

Are those both as stable as FC05?
Go with fc06, on fc05 the gps would either not work or run too much causing battery drain or hot phones.
As far as the launcher, yes you can clear defaults from tw and get to stock ics launcher. I recommend nova launcher as it has the same layout, but has options to add more screens and dock rows as well as backup your desktop setup in case you flash another rom.
Also you can flash a theme for ics by ssconcepts that says ec05 but will work on ec06 and give ur phone a pure ics look, as well as more live wallpapers and a new look to the pictures gallery.

another thing you might like to know. the updates are named by:
1st letter: os (versions that included twiz: e=gingerbread, f=ics)
2nd: month (b=Feb, c=March, etc)
digits: date (27th, 05th, etc)

I was under the impression the first letter was for the year not android version and then the rest the way u stated so fc06 was 2012-march-06
Edit: the reason i thought this was the uscc version of the sgs2 has a build number fb16 and it is based on 2.3.6

[AOKP] [CM9] Tablet/Hybrid UI Mode Discussion Threa

This is for discussion on anything and everything AOKP/CM9 Tablet/Hybrid UI mode related.
Keep in mind, we are all here to help each other and make this a great ROM experience by a great Dev.
There was barely any discussion in the original thread. All though there are reasons for a separate discussion thread for ROMs, I believe this will just cause more fragmented information due to people having to check on two threads.

As op states in original thread.. if we are experiencing fc's we must do a clean install correct? Some settings will fc, also my clock and a few other things.. i had changed lcd density using rom toolbox to 128. Rebooted and got system ui fc like it said. Mobile odind el26cwm, booted into recovery, flashed tablet ui mod, wiped cache/dalvik then flashed cm9fd02 kernel, rebooted and it started up fine. Initially phone.Apk fcd but not since first boot. Im on cm9a3 and also have black infinitum theme which looks awesome but might b causing my fc's.. any ideas? Clean install or just reinstall and get rid of the theme?

If you don't care then go ahead back up anything you want to keep and clean install it

Easy-to-use ROM?

Hey everyone. My Mother-in-Law has the Sprint SGSII and.....she hates it! She needs the capabilities the phone offers for her business, but she is extremely frustrated with the UI of Android. She is currently running the most recent ICS update. I am curious to know, from experienced users of this phone, what the most user-friendly ROM is - considering the end user.

I recommend the Blu Kuban Rom, its pretty much drama free. Use Odin to install a rooted version of ICS, then install CWM Recovery. Once that is installed slap the Blu Kuban ROM onto your SD card. Boot into recovery and install the ROM.
You will want to read some FAQs and guides if you haven't done it before.

My vote goes for stock with Apex launcher, the feature to lock the desktop is amazing for newbie android users, grouping shortcuts, customize the bottom icons, slight theming, working good so far.
I've rooted my SGS3 & am running StrongSteve's Odexed Blue, but this is my first Android phone & rooting experience. I will definately read the stickies & FAQs before I do anything. Hopefully the Epic 4G Touch isn't too different from my SGS3.

Stock, let the mother in law deal with Sprint especially if she uses her phone for business. Next thing ya know you get blamed if she misses a call or gets a late text.
Try a different launcher like apex or nova first. Lots of ppl also like go launcher, many themes
I have Nova launcher and I like it. Or go to settings, apps, select all, go to twlauncher and clear defaults then hit the home key to switch to twlauncher and you can make it your default for a straight Android look.

I got my tech retarded dad an evo 3d and put an AOSP ICS rom on it for him.It seems to be working well enough. As such I cannot recommend an AOSP rom enough for simplicity and ease of use. Google is like pretty good at what they do and IMHO AOSP is the cleanest, simplest to use option available. Keep the stock launcher and just put phone, browser, text and email in it...

No ROM is going to fix stupidity. No offense to your in laws.
That being said blu Kuban is a good choice for customizing to her specific needs. I usually refer to it as the "build your own ROM" ROM. However she may be a little daunted by the frequent updates and large amount of options. If you do choose that ROM I would highly recommend that you familiarize yourself with the faq in my sig so you can send to any issues she may have with it. Also any ROM by team VeNuM, especially m'ICS or blue BOA would be a good choice as far as stability is concerned.

Hehe, none taken. She's not stupid, just "technologically challenged."
I can't remember where I saw the screen shot, perhaps an article on Android Authority, but I seem to recall seeing an initial setup screen shot from a GNex w/JB - shortly after Google launch party. That screen shot allowed two options, basically beginner or advanced mode. I believe I came away with the impression that was geared towards the UI too, not the setup method.
Now, I know JB ROMs are in alpha stage for the e4gt. Do you think I should wait for, what looks to be, an official JB release for the SGSII from Samsung?
Thoughts? Has anyone else seen, read, heard, or experienced this "beginner mode" on JB - or were the paint fumes at my office gettin' to me more than I thought they were that day?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
JB roms are not quite ready yet. There was some type of easy setup thing though. Honestly your best bet would probably be a simple launcher and lockscreen.
Keep it stock. Use a different launcher and remove all but one screen. Put the things she uses most on it as shortcuts, then lock it so she can't accidentally mess it up. Did that for my wife and it really helped!
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app

Ive been using the TeAm VeNuM cRaCk StOck[FH23] for the past couple of days and you cant get much more simple than that. Only change I made was switch to the Apex Launcher. The battery life is incredible!!!!

I find GB more stable then most ICS ROMs. Great battery life awesome signal and great GPS locks. Most GB ROMs are complete and done with updates due to ICS coming out. Currently ICS is still being updated and has many flaws. A lot of the devs like ruj and mijjz got their stuff in order but they update a lot and may irritate your mother in law.

You can just keep stock and go dead simple with i launcher. It will obviously have no bugs (its stock). its just an iphone launcher

Is there such a thing as a stable touch wiz ROM that's themed to look like aosp?

Hey guys. New to the note 2 forums. I've been using a nexus for the last 4 years and one thing I really dislike about the note is the way touch wiz looks. However I would rather not go to cm10 and lose out on the s pen functionality.

The first link is for the rom, the second link is for the theme to be flashed on top of the rom. Make sure you follow the directions to a T.
I love airview, had an Ascend with a trackball and used it religiously viewing webpages, making selections (if you think our phone is to big for one handed use, try comjng from a scroll ball phone where my hand was usually always near the bottom of the screen), and correcting text, etc.
Im currently in the process of retraining myself just to use screen taps for full functionality, but airview is nice

[Q] Grey bars on signal and wifi icons

Been having this trouble for a little while now. While jumping between some CM10.1 ROM versions and doing TitaniumBackups, my wifi and signal icons suddenly went to grey, whence the never returned.
With the official JB Samsung update I decided to revert to stock and see if that would fix it. Nonetheless, despite using the GB27 Oneclick to completely reimage the phone (It was data reset, so an additional wipe shouldn't be necessary), my bars and wifi remained at stock before I had even restored anything. What I did restore following that, I was careful to only restore data for non-google apps (no system, no gmail, etc.). So I'm on JB Stock now, still with greyed out bars.
I've tried any number of solutions--stopping Google Framework Services and clearing the data/cache, reinstalling all google apps, including the Playstore, signing in and out of GTalk, installing Push Notifications Fixer to debug--all to no avail.
At this point I'm not sure what else to do. I have the GTalk Monitor running and everything seems to be fine. I've even sent myself a few emails from other addresses to confirm that the Push Notifications are working--which they seem to be. So I'm not sure why I'm still not getting blue bars and/or what litmus test my phone has to pass to make Google happy.
Any suggestions?
