ICS ROM - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

So I am currently running FC05 and its nice, really enjoying it. I do have a couple questions tho...What are the differences in FB27 and FC05?
Also is there a non touch wiz version of ICS for the Epic Touch? I would really like to use vanilla ICS. Thanks in advance!

CM9 & AOKP are both great ROMs that are based on stock ICS.

The newer the build the more smooth and "ironed out" the rom will be. So yes, eg. FC05 is better than FB27 and so forth. Check the themes and apps section for a flashable "theme". Follow instructions and read read read. Hope that helps

Im under the impression that you can clear defaults on 'TwLauncher' and switch to the native android launcher? Just not themed i guessed

Are those both as stable as FC05?

Go with fc06, on fc05 the gps would either not work or run too much causing battery drain or hot phones.
As far as the launcher, yes you can clear defaults from tw and get to stock ics launcher. I recommend nova launcher as it has the same layout, but has options to add more screens and dock rows as well as backup your desktop setup in case you flash another rom.
Also you can flash a theme for ics by ssconcepts that says ec05 but will work on ec06 and give ur phone a pure ics look, as well as more live wallpapers and a new look to the pictures gallery.

another thing you might like to know. the updates are named by:
1st letter: os (versions that included twiz: e=gingerbread, f=ics)
2nd: month (b=Feb, c=March, etc)
digits: date (27th, 05th, etc)

I was under the impression the first letter was for the year not android version and then the rest the way u stated so fc06 was 2012-march-06
Edit: the reason i thought this was the uscc version of the sgs2 has a build number fb16 and it is based on 2.3.6

i wanted to find a rom that was NOT heavily themed, but performed very well and had good battery and such, and wanted to know also if i found one, could i have the touchwiz 5 on it?
I don't know about TW5, but give The People's Rom a go.
If you desire a custom look, then either flash a compatible theme or use a 3rd party launcher and their themes.
I really like miui either ginger or ideally V4 ICS they both have a theme button you can download tons of different themes and then go with ADW or Apex launchers and Launcher 7 is fun once you tweak it a bit
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA
oops, i meant not heavily themed, but miui is nice
Did you want AOSP or TouchWiz based? I suggested a TW rom based off your comment to want TW5.
If you're looking for something flexible, clean & battery life then pretty much any of the following:
Here's your list to try out.
AOSP based:
CM7 (Gingerbread)
CM9 (ICS)
AOKP (ICS)
MIUI v2.1.6 (Gingerbread)
MIUI v4.x (ICS)
TW based (Gingerbread):
The People's Rom [FC09]
Clean GB [EL30]
Cut & Paste Rom [FC09]
SleeperRom [FC09]
RandomRom Thunderhawl v5.1 [FC09]

you could be leave the nyan part off i know its your kernel but i hate when people do that, its like you try to advertise to get people to use it, and mine you nothing wrong but im sure he'll know what to choose on his own seeing how there isn't just yours.
Quite frankly and its funny coming from me but i think STOCK is honestly better than shadow and yours and Samurai's. Used to before on GB it was the other way around.
Personally I love AOKP CM9 build 39 is decent and on play store you can get quite a few like motoblur, touchwiz, and blueinfintium is a nice minimalistic that I prefer. Infintium has pink, orange, blue, black ect

Best GB rom w/theme support?

Right now I'm on some random rom. Don't even remember what. But.I'm rooted and clear for flashing.
I don't want ICS or JB, because the battery usage is ridiculous. GB works just fine, I suppose..
Now, I like themes.. I especially hate that the notification bar is black. I like my phone to have a good theme to it..
I was gonna download "new senzations" 2.3.6, but my computer won't download from the site. Says there's an active download. Go look at it, it's pretty much what I want. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1352405
Can anyone suggest a good, stable rom that supports themeing, or can someone download new senzations and link me to a dropboxed copy of it? Please? thank you all!

I've been on ICS roms with this phone for some time now, but when I first rooted my phone and exclusively stuck to GB roms until I was a little more comfortable with everything, my favorite was Blazer 4.0 and I also recall it having quite a few themes out there to choose from. As far as overall performance and variety of themes, that's the one that sticks out in my mind.

Easy-to-use ROM?

Hey everyone. My Mother-in-Law has the Sprint SGSII and.....she hates it! She needs the capabilities the phone offers for her business, but she is extremely frustrated with the UI of Android. She is currently running the most recent ICS update. I am curious to know, from experienced users of this phone, what the most user-friendly ROM is - considering the end user.

I recommend the Blu Kuban Rom, its pretty much drama free. Use Odin to install a rooted version of ICS, then install CWM Recovery. Once that is installed slap the Blu Kuban ROM onto your SD card. Boot into recovery and install the ROM.
You will want to read some FAQs and guides if you haven't done it before.
Probably miui

My vote goes for stock with Apex launcher, the feature to lock the desktop is amazing for newbie android users, grouping shortcuts, customize the bottom icons, slight theming, working good so far.
I've rooted my SGS3 & am running StrongSteve's Odexed Blue, but this is my first Android phone & rooting experience. I will definately read the stickies & FAQs before I do anything. Hopefully the Epic 4G Touch isn't too different from my SGS3.

Stock, let the mother in law deal with Sprint especially if she uses her phone for business. Next thing ya know you get blamed if she misses a call or gets a late text.
Try a different launcher like apex or nova first. Lots of ppl also like go launcher, many themes
I have Nova launcher and I like it. Or go to settings, apps, select all, go to twlauncher and clear defaults then hit the home key to switch to twlauncher and you can make it your default for a straight Android look.

I got my tech retarded dad an evo 3d and put an AOSP ICS rom on it for him.It seems to be working well enough. As such I cannot recommend an AOSP rom enough for simplicity and ease of use. Google is like pretty good at what they do and IMHO AOSP is the cleanest, simplest to use option available. Keep the stock launcher and just put phone, browser, text and email in it...

No ROM is going to fix stupidity. No offense to your in laws.
That being said blu Kuban is a good choice for customizing to her specific needs. I usually refer to it as the "build your own ROM" ROM. However she may be a little daunted by the frequent updates and large amount of options. If you do choose that ROM I would highly recommend that you familiarize yourself with the faq in my sig so you can send to any issues she may have with it. Also any ROM by team VeNuM, especially m'ICS or blue BOA would be a good choice as far as stability is concerned.

Hehe, none taken. She's not stupid, just "technologically challenged."
I can't remember where I saw the screen shot, perhaps an article on Android Authority, but I seem to recall seeing an initial setup screen shot from a GNex w/JB - shortly after Google launch party. That screen shot allowed two options, basically beginner or advanced mode. I believe I came away with the impression that was geared towards the UI too, not the setup method.
Now, I know JB ROMs are in alpha stage for the e4gt. Do you think I should wait for, what looks to be, an official JB release for the SGSII from Samsung?
Thoughts? Has anyone else seen, read, heard, or experienced this "beginner mode" on JB - or were the paint fumes at my office gettin' to me more than I thought they were that day?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
JB roms are not quite ready yet. There was some type of easy setup thing though. Honestly your best bet would probably be a simple launcher and lockscreen.
Keep it stock. Use a different launcher and remove all but one screen. Put the things she uses most on it as shortcuts, then lock it so she can't accidentally mess it up. Did that for my wife and it really helped!

Ive been using the TeAm VeNuM cRaCk StOck[FH23] for the past couple of days and you cant get much more simple than that. Only change I made was switch to the Apex Launcher. The battery life is incredible!!!!

I find GB more stable then most ICS ROMs. Great battery life awesome signal and great GPS locks. Most GB ROMs are complete and done with updates due to ICS coming out. Currently ICS is still being updated and has many flaws. A lot of the devs like ruj and mijjz got their stuff in order but they update a lot and may irritate your mother in law.

You can just keep stock and go dead simple with i launcher. It will obviously have no bugs (its stock). its just an iphone launcher

[Q] Differences between Touchwiz, CM10, and stock Jelly Bean

I am a bit new to Android and the GS3. But honestly I am already sick and tired of waiting for Jelly Bean as well as some of the problems of Touchwiz. So I think CM10 is the next thing for me. But I am unsure of the differencr between Touchwiz and CM10. For example I love the quick settings panel, the brilliang camera app and settings, Wi-Fi direct sharing (sbeam) , as well as the smart dialer and decent task manager. I just want to make sure everything will be better.
it's your call. i'd say you should try it out, and if you don't like it, you can always go back to stock touchwiz. just remember to read the op and the last few pages of the thread to make sure there aren't any unwanted problems to deal with. and of course, backup your current rom.
sent from my I747
Stock Jelly Bean has been leaked. This will give you all the Jelly Bean goodness without resorting to a custom ROM.
You could also install the touchwiz launcher on CM10 if you like the TouchWiz UI. (I don't)
You can always flash back to stock ICS if you don't like where you end up. Just read the original post and make sure you understand what you're doing so you don't end up with a brick.

So if I tried it and didn't like it, I could just go back to normal and get updates OTA and everything.
Not all S3 are identical. The radio interface are slightly different, region wise. So yes , you can download a Samsung stock ROM off the Internet, it will not be exactly the same. Call and battery performance will be affected slightly.
You can use a backup to restore, it is the closest you can get to original, but rooted.
That it's the complete picture.

Things I like about touchwiz.
Movable home screens.
Little red flags on home screen icon showing unread status.
Social hub for Twitter and Facebook.
A working music player
Swipe right to call, left to SMS
Task manager, less of an issue in ICS and later.
Good alarm app
Best battery performance without tweaking.

yea im in the same position you are, i still change back and fourth because of features on TW that i miss and need often.
I am considering just flashing and trying it out and flashing back if I don't like it. I honestly don't mind Touchwiz, but I feel like if I give in and and wait, then I will just keep falling further behind. Perhaps Touchwiz is better now, but it certainly won't be in January
Touch wiz has too much overlay IMO. Liquid smooth is one of the best AOKP ROMs I've tried. But you will be missing out on Sbeam and everything Samsung related of course. But the sheer speed of aokp is a good enough trade off for me to lose just the neat camera and svoice.
I am using AOKP from Task and ktoonez, I love it but really miss smart stay and allshare cast to the point where I'll probably go back to TW JB once ATT actually releases it. Is there a JB ROM that includes those?
Hey guys,
Is there anyway to get the TouchWiz S3 camera features with one of the custom roms or just stick to a stock?
My brother loves the AOKP but he is insistent on having those default camera features/effects that came with the phone.

Can I go right from a 4.2.2 AOSP ROM to a 4.1.2 TouchWiz ROM?

Going upstate this weekend and I get literally no service what so ever so I wanna use Roam Control but it doesn't work with 3.4 kernels so I wanna go back to TouchWiz for the next couple of days.... can I just flash a 4.1.2 ROM (say M.O.A.R) over my current ROM (Deviant Xone)? I always update the prl and profile when I travel and get to my destination. I suggest downloading wasabis new themes in the theme and apps thread. There are instructions on how to flash them on page 14 in the thread, you ha e to edit a file before flashing them to make them work. Also there is a AOSP style messaging app for TW. I like the look of AOSP so with moar and the AOSP app my phone looks like AOSP but has the benefits of TW. After flashing the wasabi ice cream them with his aroma installer just boot up and then go back and run morphology only to change the status bar to AOSP colors and you will be good. I lo e moar it's my favorite ROM.

I just LOVE 4.2.2 not even the "AOSP feel"; yeah it's cool I will admit but I'm on an AOSP ROM 95% because of 4.2.2. Love the lock screen widgets, quicksettings tiles especially, come in very handy at times. Also some of the features the Dev has put into the ROM is awesome. I guess I'll see over the weekend if I'm gonna stick with AOSP or go back to TouchWiz with M.O.A.R.
