I just finished rooting my Galaxy Nexus (Sprint) and I'm looking for a decent ROM+Kernel combo to flash...
I'm coming from an OG Evo 4G and while there were ALOT of nice ROMS I'd say that about 9 out of 10 were "working fully"...by working fully I mean with no real issues...I understand that one or two things might not work that great but there were alot of ROMs that seemed like they were just pushed out to be the first with the latest "flavor of the month"...
I understand it takes tons of work to make custom ROMs and I appreciate all the hard work, but some folks just seemed like they threw anything together and flashed it...and also offered no support on the issues that popped up...
I can't decide whether to just leave this new phone rooted/stock or flash something...I just don't wanna go through constant FC's and non-working features on a brand new device...
I know most people say "flash it and find out for yourself" but I'm just asking a simple question here...just wanna know if most of these ROMs are solid...
so if there are any recommendations please post em up...
I'm sure there are some ridiculous ROMs for this phone because the phone itself is CRAZY!!
One other question- since I use Sprint do I have to look for ROMs for Sprint devices only or are all the Galaxy Nexus ROMs okay to flash?
Thanks.
So... you should just stay stock rooted.
Looks like the sprint dev section has most of the major players ported.
They are all stable for the most part.
I'm running Franco kernel nightly 152, that's there.
But Doesn't look like the ROM I'm on is ported yet.

aokp franco
I have ButterNutz which is fairly close to stock 4.0.4 if you aren't interested in customizing every little detail of the ROM. I haven't posted it here at XDA though.
AOKP Milestone 4 and Franco Milestone 3 on mine, have not had a single problem. Right now on 14 hours of moderate use - music, calls, texts, Web surfing but no gaming - w/ 39% battery life remaining.

Milestone 5 is out.
If you're just looking for a general outline, the big four are Gummy, AOKP M5, Miui, and CM9 alpha.
Of those I'd say AOKP gives you the most customization while miui gives you the least. Most other builds I've seen for the gnex are usually inferior (IMHO) builds of those 4.
I don't notice a huge difference between custom kernels but one major benefit is being able to set the clock speed. I know Franco does that when paired with the $3 app. So you can't go wrong there.
Good luck.

AOKP M5 with the kernel is comes with (faux). Great customization enhancing the stock experience and great battery life.

I'll suggest same as many others - AOKP M5 + nightly franco.kernel 152. Really buttery smooth and bug free experience.
Liquidsmooth + Francokernel is pretty good. very smooth, lots of useful tweaks, great battery life too.
Liquidsmooth 1.35 + Francokernel M3 = 26h battery (4h screen on time) last day.
AOKP M5 + Franco

Stock 4.0.4 IMM76D w/ 007 1.2ghz Kernel.
Best battery life with smooth performance and stock AOSP experience...the GOOGLE way.
BlackIce Kangorade by travp624 (on RootzWiki or Goo) or CM9 Kang by winner00. A very solid rom!! All the roms are great! For or a kernel that's fast and stays at an extremely low temp I always wind up sticking with Trinity! Great kernels, big selection! 1344/345 or the TUV.. I've flashed around and with these Trinity I always get 4+ on the screen ..
(w/heavy usage!!) You will notice a difference right away and just gets better. Also grab the app (Trinity Toolbox) Has some that aren't available to pubic and it's good to support the devs!! If you have never flashed Kangorade you are missing out! Amazing rom!!!!
Yes, most of the ROMs are quite stable, the exceptions to the rule seem to be clearly labeled as unstable. Yes, you will need to flash Sprint (toroplus) ROMs but you can flash any of the Galaxy Nexus kernels. Most of the mods and themes should probably work too but you'll probably have greater luck trying a CDMA version rather than GSM.
Hi everyone,
I come from the original i9000 Galaxy S where I loved CM, but have upgraded to the S3.
Unlike the i9000, I actually do enjoy Touchwiz on the S3 so am willing to stick with it, but wouldn't mind trying CM10.1 or AOKP 4.2 just for a change. I am aware of their bugs (ie. bluetooth), but my main concern is BATTERY LIFE.
Presently, I'm on stock (rooted) and while I enjoy stock, the battery life has been crap for me since the JB upgrade. Because of this, I am looking to switch to either a custom TW rom or something AOSP.
From your experience, is battery life better or worse for you with Custom TW roms or with AOSP? If you answer Custom TW, can you please let me know which roms you prefer?
Thanks

No one can answer this because each device is different, each person uses their device differently and each device reacts differently to different settings. I'd say just try them out.

In my experience i've gotten better battery life on Touchwiz. Noticeably better using the phone in the same way.
So far my battery has been better than stock rom.
On the same setup i have better battery on aosp roms(using task aokp)

My battery is much better on AOKP than it was on TouchWhiz, however, my wife's battery is better than mine and she's on stock TW JB. Never can tell.
I currently am using WickedV6 and the battery life is fantastic. After a normal day, I normally have roughly 50-60% battery life when going to bed. Have not attempted any AOSP Rom on the S3. On my Captivate, the AOSP Roms ate the battery. Barely got through a 12 hour day without having to recharge.
I get about 5 hrs of screen time on AOKP before my phone dies.

Out of curiosity, are you guys all on wifi all day? I find my battery life to be ok when I'm on wifi, but unfortunately that is not an option for me at work so I am on HSPA+ all day.
Right now with new AOKP build, I am at 20% battery and my work day isnt even over yet....screen on time is only 40 minutes. I have Google Now and location services turned off, but can still barely make it through a work day with minimal screen time.
When I was on stock ICS, I remember going to be with 50% battery and 2 hrs screen time using HSPA+ all day.
Hi everyone..
I have been using many ROMs, to be honest i can't stay on one more than 10 hours.. I keep on switching between them..
So which one YOU would prefer from these:
1. [email protected] (4.1.2 with many things m, simple, clean, themes, etc.)
2. JellyBam (4.2.2 best mix of PA,AOKP,CM,AOSP..)
3. SilmBean (4.2.2 very small, clean, dpi 241, simple)
4. AllianceROM (4.1.2 Based with best AOSP feel)
5. Emotion ROM (4.1.2, i got the best battery life in this)
6. Phoenix ROM (4.1.2, many features)
I tried many others ROM such as ARHD, WanamLite, monixROM, miniTab, etc.. But i didn't like them
Im not a real "flasher" nor do i have lot of experience but i did like jellybam

I'm not really sure on your pick on the "Best Battery Life Rom". Personally I've tried most of the roms.
IMO:
Alliance Rom - Great Ui, Lots of junk apps(easily removed with Rom customizer.) Surprisingly good battery life. Able to get about 7 hours screen in time with the phone running around 12 to 20 hours. Depending on usage obviously.
Wanamlite - Used to be my daily driver and thought it had the best battery life. Not anymore. A light Rom but battery life was my concern so it had to go.
Emotion Rom(your pick as best battery life) - I had a the opposite experience. Battery life was so so. I would rate it the same as Wanamlite.
Omega Rom - and this is by far the best battery life I've gotten out of my note 2. Fast and smooth transitions. Goes into deep sleep without any kernel wakelocks. Most I had drained while asleep for 8 hours was 3%. I've had this for 2 weeks now and battery life is amazing.
I get a lot of phone calls, Whatsapp every 5 - 10 minutes, browse quite a bit too. Settings for my phone is basically everything that saves battery is turned off, except for 3G. Most of the time I'm out and about so I don't have wifi. I basically run on 3g throughout the day.
The best I've gotten from this Rom is about 10 hours and 30 minutes of on screen time at the end of the having about 1-5% left. I wish I kept the screenshot to prove it but I don't.
So to you new flashers out there, just try it out. You won't be disappointed.

For me, in Omega ROM i get 6-7 hours of display but in Emotion i got solid 9 hours of display.. 6 idle time with 0-1% battery loss.. In total of 15 hours..
Wanamlite i didnt like it.. I would go with Android Revolution instead..
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
Was it the latest Omega? Because on the previous versions I got around the same as what you mentioned but on v12 it's surprisingly good. I have have perseus kernel flashed but in the forums users have said to have been battery life with stock kernel.
I'd definitely try emotion again. But the only 2 things that bug me is the contact picture icons. It's somehow shrinked or stretched. I'm not the only one with this problem. PMed the developer about it but he never replied me. And the other problem is the toggles. Developer is currently using SF instead of wanams 23 toggles like before.
That's just my 2 cents. Cheers.

Which rom has the most extras
hey guys, i want a rom with the most extras, tweaks and apps, basically i want a rom with everything possible so i can decide what i like and what i do not like, any recommendations?
and can you link me to an in depth tutorial on how to flash the note 2 from "official" firmware to the custom firmware
PhoeniX is the best for me as it has a lot of features and tweaks, plus, its really fast!
Thread closed as its a best ROM thread.
Is it really worth flashing a custom rom? In terms of speed, features and batt life?
Additional question:
Howcome when I do voice search in google it doesn't show me the cards? Instead it only go straight to search results.

for now atleast I personally I repeat ONLY my personal opinion I have tried other ROMs but I just end up using original Samsung stock but rooted though and using perseus kernel!! as other ROMs for me were just not 100% perfect but in sure many people here would prefer the custom ROMs..my phone hasn't slowed down an inch !! a quad core processor + 2GB RAM why should I get worried anyway!! battery can last upto 2 days with minimal use though..if you want to try out other ROMs try them or check them out on YouTube before you commit yourself as you will have some good idea about the ROM

for me i was on latest mg1 on and it has worst battery life and doesnot have some tweaks i want like sound controls, ignore unstable charging etc,so i decided to switch to wannamlite 3.9 and i thoroughly enjoy it,it has noticeably better smoothness and battery,i tried various custom roms but i always come back to wannamlite
I had Nexus 4 and I have tried many custom roms,
Eventually there isn't a big difference in your day to day use, now and then you can find a few cool feature - but nothing you can't live without.
For me, the main attraction in custom roms is having latest Android version.
I would recommend you stay put, after a few modification like canceling animation and launchers - you will have a great android experience with Stock note 2.
I prefer Samsung's tweaks with the SPen and multitasking. I tried some other ROMs on other devices, but on the Note 2, I prefer a rooted phone running the stock ROM.

I tried other stuff too. Now I'm back on stock. I thought I'd try it unrooted for a while and see what I thought.
That was 3 months ago, and I still haven't felt the need to root.

We don't, imo, have a great selection of roms for our phone and I dont think any rom will be as stable as stock.
Root is pretty important but, unlike other phones I've had, I don't think custom roms are as necessary.
With all that said I do like my Jedi custom Rom lol

For me its a big YES..customization, tweaks, root apps are boon for Android users!
I love using phone in 240dpi..moreover 240dpi looks awesome for our giant note 2 screen.
Secondly, access to root apps like titanium backup , supersu, root toolbox and more..
Third-rid of all bloatware
There are alot to be mentioned..its endless.

android is a beautiful language to learn
Of course! My note 2 had drastically slowed down on stock! To such a level that it was taking a good 5 seconds to open the dialer! It was too slow to switch between apps!
But once I switched to a custom Rom, it was lightning fast! And the abundance of customizations! It's just awesome! I'm on probam.. check it out! It's got all the goodies of all the top roms available!
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Absolutely - I would highly recommend at least rooting and flashing kernel like RedPill. It certainly improves battery life, and gives you calibrated screen (seriously, you don't know what the hell you are missing, because Samsung Calibration is horrible), has option to amplify headphone volume, and gives you better sound quality etc. And also many other useful apps need rooted phone.
ARHD is apparently smooth for many people. There are plenty of other ROMs like Project AOSP (AOSP look and feel), X Note (floating multiwindow) etc. Battery life should be awesome too.
I've tried plenty of roms on this phone and my experience has been that none of them offer much benefit over rooted stock in conjunction with the xposed framework. Battery life is great as is reliability. Sometimes those customs will have a funky bug which went rear it's head until the worst time.
Sent from my GT-N7100
My Note 2 was pretty slow on stock. Huge lag on lockscreen, unlock and lags all over the place.
Installing Nova Launcher and a custom lockscreen did help quite a bit, but it still left a bit to be desired.
Now I'm on Phoenix Rom and it seems much better. Battery life is much improved as well. And perhaps most importantly, I got rid of most of the ungodly TouchWiz ugliness in the process! The default 320 dpi is ridiculous for me! Huge menus occupying most of the precious screen estate. With 240 the phone is much more productive and everything just looks better and sharper.
So for me it was definately worth it!
Though with root, Xposed and custom skinning you can achieve quite a lot already. But root and Xposed are pretty much mandatory.

I need some help choosing a new rom. This would be my first custom ROM on my GN2.
Currently in running 4.3 stock and it has terrible battery life and is slow. Stock 4.1.2 was actually way better.
What I'm looking for is:
- touchwiz features. I don't want to lose s-pen
- stable for DD usage
- good battery life. At least a day on moderate usage
- good performance. At least equivalent to stock 4.1.2 or better
- note 3 features would be nice but not a requirement
Any ideas would be appreciated
Thanks
You just need to test each and see what you like. Go see development thread and test some.
Touch wiz ones are MeanBean,sky note,ditto, stock 4.3 rooted,alliance

My votes for Mean Bean....
But agree with eZ,,,, No one but yo,u will know if your satisfied with it.
And no one will be running the phone the same way you do, ie: sames apps, same wireless use, same texting, on and on and on.

Research and see what best suits what you want. If you are looking for stability then a stock based rom would be best. If want more vanilla android the a CM based rom is best. Its all about what you want. I personally use the Jedi Roms cause I like the stock stability with the extras thrown in

Agree with all of the above.. Gotta test and see....
I am on Ditto Note 3 with Agni Kernel and it's smokin' hot! Blazing fast and great battery life.
But still you gotta test them out for yourself.
I would say MIUI, after testing many many ROMS which all in the end was quite a like i found MIUI roms to be devoted to appearance and (perhaps mere coincidence) better battery time.
This is really not a question others can answer for you, as eZ says, test and see, you will in the end find a sweetspot.
Miui= ijunk look/Crapple IMHO
