Great find. !
This is also useful on nexus one as I don't have to go through all the hassle to turn on hotspot.
Great, I'll go out to buy G2 this week!
But how can I change the mobile hotspot settings on G2 when it's hidden?
Good question. I would like to know. Have yet to make a successful connection. But it is sending out a wifi connection. Just can't obtain a ip address. Only tried to connect N1. And to tired to find my laptop. Will try in the am. And post back
Can't get a connection but it is transmiting.

some people also tried it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=798247
apparently it broadcasts a SSID but doesn't assign a ip guess tmo knew what they were doing. pretty sure we could overcome this with root.

According to what OP said, it may take a while to get IP.
I found the writter and I'll ask him to put additional mobile hotspot settings on his application.

Awesome! Shows up as Open Connection - connected ...
releasing and attempting to renew now ...
EDIT:
Didn't pull an IP - I'm not convinced that there is a DHCP server running on Vision with just toggling the connection.
I now have a reason to install a Terminal Emulator and check out IFCONFIG xD
....
Tried IFCONFIG under normal and temp Root - nothing displays
Was this part of busybox previously?

The problem is: both easytether and PDAnet don't work with Cradlepoint routers.
Wasnt aware of that . Thanks for the heads up !
Ok I use wifinder to scan and search for open wifi spots and just recently I am not able to connect to any it just says connecting>disconnecting>idle , I have looked in wifi and network menu and it says ip address unavailable . Can anyone give me some help....? Thanks

I had that problem a while back for no apparent reason and resetting the router fixed it. It was just my first instinct since I work in tech support and our first commandment is "Thou shalt reboot it." I suspect the DHCP table was full or something, but it hasn't happened since, so I haven't been motivated enough to look for the cause.
try disable the networkdata connection
then turn off wifi an turn it on again
Can you be more specific about the type of Wifi your using at your pc??? (ap,wifi card, etc?)
Reset router (virgin super hub) and all works well. Why didn't I think of that lol

Hi, I have this problem with my Virgin Superhub. Happens usually once a week. nothing but trouble with Superhub since getting it 6 weeks ago (
Hi Everyone,
I am facing an unusual issue. Tried searching a lot if anyone else is facing anything similar, but I guess I'm the only one.
I've been trying to use the WiFi hotspot feature since a last few days, but it doesnt work properly. When I scan for wifi networks from any other device, it shows the wifi name of my portable hotspot. On entering password and everything, it says connected. Now, when I try to access internet on the wifi device, it doesnt work. The data arrows on my One X do flash, but there is no data received at the wifi device end.
I've tried to use my portable hotspot with following devices (one at a time) till now: PS Vita (wifi only), the new iPad (iPad3, wifi only), and my sister's HP laptop. Same problem with all three devices.
I've tried following settings as well:
1) Using default SSID with no password
2) Using default SSID with password (both WEP and WPA)
3) Changing SSID to something else, with and without password protection
Internet (3G), otherwise, is working perfectly fine on my HTC One X, in fact i am able to receive emails and access internet on my phone during the wifi hotspot activated and devices connected to my phone.
I have the latest OTA update (for India) installed on my phone, i.e. 1.28.720.10
The problem was there before also (previous firmware), and after the recent OTA update, it still remains.
Can anyone help me get rid of this issue? Or maybe suggest some workarounds.
There's one thing that i'm planning to do...i saw a post on xda forum where someone has posted apk files for all preinstalled apps on HTC One X. I can try an install the wifi hotspot app again, maybe that works.
got the same problem here, have u found a solution?
Try using this: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/detail?name=wifi_tether_v3_1-beta14.apk
I am using android hd2. Hotspot is not working in sense so I use wifi tether. It works very well.

Shared networks
I had exactly the same issue with my T-Mobile HTC One X - after years of successful WiFi hotspot use with my old HTC Desire.
Whilst investigating the APN setting suggestions posted here I noticed that I was actually connected to the T-Mobile Orange network and not the T-Mobile network.
I switched to plain old T-Mobile and a moment later my laptop reported internet connectivity. Go figure.
I never had that problem on the Desire but at least I have a few workarounds now... thanks for the advice everybody.

Works like a charm... thanks...
I've had the issue where if I tether another Android device to it the tethered device can't access the Play store while mine can. Everything else works fine, just no Play store access for anyone connected to my hotspot.
Has anyone encountered this issue?

Hi
i am using one x(India) ....i hv got the same problem..!
hotspot connects and laptop shows internet connection but am unable to use the internet. unable to open webpages or anyother internet activity.
is their a setting for laptop i should do ? becuase hotspot is working in other device.
help would be really appreciated.
Thanks
PS laptop is HP DV6000 series.
I do have a similar problem with hotspot.
the hotspot icon will not appear after switching it on but i can still see the hotspot from my laptop and connect to it, but there is no internet.
I have tried to rename the name to "Consumer Broadband" but it`s the same.
Do i need to delete the old VPN and make the new one?
I`m not rooted yet.
FYI: Tethering/hotspot doesn't work with IPv6 yet
I know this problems is solved, but for other that may find this helpful...I was having some similar issues. Using the hotspot, I could connect my phone to my tablet but it wasn't connecting to the internet. My problem was that I had set up an IPv6 APN on my phone and didn't realize that tethering/hotspot does not work on IPv6 yet. I switched back to the default APN and it works fine.
not working on one s with new apn

Hi Vincepg13,
I also have had this problem, but since I read your post regarding changing the APN (Access Point Names) setting to the name 'Consumer Broadband' it has allowed me to use the Wi-Fi Hotspot feature on my Branded T-Mobile UK HTC One X device. I am so grateful for your diagnostic for this situation that really was a nuisance. I feel at ease that I can finally use my device to tether with other device which have Wi-Fi Only or do not have a Mobile Data on-board. My One X has a new use that I had on a previous HTC device, so glad I can use it effectively.
Advice for others who are doing this make sure you spell the 'Consumer Broadband' correctly and I would highly recommend that you take screen shots of the current APN, so you can match all the settings correctly. Also do not delete the current APN, if you do take Sim card out of tray, restart your phone and replace the Sim card, it should automatically set up a APN for your network. Furthermore this should also work for all other UK networks. I can not confirm for other countries because I am from the United Kingdom.
Once again thank you to Vincepg13. :good:

HTC Hotpot Issue Resolved!!!
After searching so many days. i found the solution accidentaly
My Simple Answer is "Disable LAN" on Desktop
How You Do That?
open network and sharing center >> change adapter settings >> Local Area Connection (Right Click to Disable)

See the magic. Like my answer if it work for you as well
Hello friends and Gurus.
My friend is in a serious problem. He purchased Oppo N1 16GB. Details are as follows:
Android version 4.2.2
Color OS V1.0.0i
Baseband version Q_V1_P14
Kernel Version 3.4.0-5375
Build number N1_13_140320
We are on Idea Cellular network in India. He can voice call and sms, but CANNOT connect to internet. Check this pic
i62.tinypic.com/2mqovn4.jpg
The big problem is the "GPRS service: Disconnected"
I tried changing network modes. but doesnt work.
But I need some android Guru from this forum to help me with a with a solution.
This issue is serious because without internet the phone is not worth the money.
I have already rooted the phone and I am willing to try any software tweaks on the phone like editing build.prop, etc.
PLEASE HELP !
I would say check APN settings.

FYI: you can report your issue directly to the oppp guys at www.oppoforums.com , there's some engineer's from oppo there. They might be able to help you

Ok. Thanks all .
But I solved the issue. I simply rooted the phone and factory reset it. The network started workin.
So we have two smt310's in our household. Both will connect to our sky router individually but when I try to connect both at the same time they end up kicking each other off the network! I've tried with dynamic and static ip's but still the same result?
One tab is running slimkat and the other cyanogenmod (both were running CM but I installed a different firmware in case, for some reason the firmware's were conflicting with one another).... I'm at a loss, any ideas guys? It's proper doing my head in!! ?

hi,
on just a quick search, the idea of spoofing your mac address may be what you need, check this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2286440
alternately an approach by modifying your kernel might work, more intensive though
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1878506
also maybe download and install from fdroid an app called network discovery.
after install , first launch will prompt you to update NIC database, do so.
then run scan to find your modem and paste that address in your browser to access and modify/maintain
your modem from your tab. Not an intuitive setup so have a look at the app's config and adjust as needed.

Wow, cheers! A lot of things to try there, I never came across then when Google-ing! Good effort ??

Bloody nice one @moonbutt74 it was my mac code, unfortunately flashing the kernel just left me with a bootloop so I tried to just delete the efs/wifi/mac_info file. Rebooted and low and behold my mac address was different and all the tablets now connect to the network at the same time!!!! Thanks so much for your help, I don't think I would have thought of changing the mac address! #legend
