[Q] WiFi Hotspot Not Working [SOLVED] - HTC One X

Hi Everyone,
I am facing an unusual issue. Tried searching a lot if anyone else is facing anything similar, but I guess I'm the only one.
I've been trying to use the WiFi hotspot feature since a last few days, but it doesnt work properly. When I scan for wifi networks from any other device, it shows the wifi name of my portable hotspot. On entering password and everything, it says connected. Now, when I try to access internet on the wifi device, it doesnt work. The data arrows on my One X do flash, but there is no data received at the wifi device end.
I've tried to use my portable hotspot with following devices (one at a time) till now: PS Vita (wifi only), the new iPad (iPad3, wifi only), and my sister's HP laptop. Same problem with all three devices.
I've tried following settings as well:
1) Using default SSID with no password
2) Using default SSID with password (both WEP and WPA)
3) Changing SSID to something else, with and without password protection
Internet (3G), otherwise, is working perfectly fine on my HTC One X, in fact i am able to receive emails and access internet on my phone during the wifi hotspot activated and devices connected to my phone.
I have the latest OTA update (for India) installed on my phone, i.e. 1.28.720.10
The problem was there before also (previous firmware), and after the recent OTA update, it still remains.
Can anyone help me get rid of this issue? Or maybe suggest some workarounds.
There's one thing that i'm planning to do...i saw a post on xda forum where someone has posted apk files for all preinstalled apps on HTC One X. I can try an install the wifi hotspot app again, maybe that works.

got the same problem here, have u found a solution?

Try using this: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/detail?name=wifi_tether_v3_1-beta14.apk
I am using android hd2. Hotspot is not working in sense so I use wifi tether. It works very well.

I'm here to save the day, try making a new apn with the EXACT same settings as your default one however change the name to 'Consumer Broadband'...I'm on T-Mobile UK and that's how I fixed it, had the exact same problems as you

Shared networks
I had exactly the same issue with my T-Mobile HTC One X - after years of successful WiFi hotspot use with my old HTC Desire.
Whilst investigating the APN setting suggestions posted here I noticed that I was actually connected to the T-Mobile Orange network and not the T-Mobile network.
I switched to plain old T-Mobile and a moment later my laptop reported internet connectivity. Go figure.
I never had that problem on the Desire but at least I have a few workarounds now... thanks for the advice everybody.

Literally, you are life saver.... I was really considering to sell my HoX... =)
Works like a charm... thanks...

I've had the issue where if I tether another Android device to it the tethered device can't access the Play store while mine can. Everything else works fine, just no Play store access for anyone connected to my hotspot.
Has anyone encountered this issue?

Hi
i am using one x(India) ....i hv got the same problem..!
hotspot connects and laptop shows internet connection but am unable to use the internet. unable to open webpages or anyother internet activity.
is their a setting for laptop i should do ? becuase hotspot is working in other device.
help would be really appreciated.
Thanks
PS laptop is HP DV6000 series.

I do have a similar problem with hotspot.
the hotspot icon will not appear after switching it on but i can still see the hotspot from my laptop and connect to it, but there is no internet.
I have tried to rename the name to "Consumer Broadband" but it`s the same.
Do i need to delete the old VPN and make the new one?
I`m not rooted yet.

FYI: Tethering/hotspot doesn't work with IPv6 yet
I know this problems is solved, but for other that may find this helpful...I was having some similar issues. Using the hotspot, I could connect my phone to my tablet but it wasn't connecting to the internet. My problem was that I had set up an IPv6 APN on my phone and didn't realize that tethering/hotspot does not work on IPv6 yet. I switched back to the default APN and it works fine.

not working on one s with new apn

Hi Vincepg13,
I also have had this problem, but since I read your post regarding changing the APN (Access Point Names) setting to the name 'Consumer Broadband' it has allowed me to use the Wi-Fi Hotspot feature on my Branded T-Mobile UK HTC One X device. I am so grateful for your diagnostic for this situation that really was a nuisance. I feel at ease that I can finally use my device to tether with other device which have Wi-Fi Only or do not have a Mobile Data on-board. My One X has a new use that I had on a previous HTC device, so glad I can use it effectively.
Advice for others who are doing this make sure you spell the 'Consumer Broadband' correctly and I would highly recommend that you take screen shots of the current APN, so you can match all the settings correctly. Also do not delete the current APN, if you do take Sim card out of tray, restart your phone and replace the Sim card, it should automatically set up a APN for your network. Furthermore this should also work for all other UK networks. I can not confirm for other countries because I am from the United Kingdom.
Once again thank you to Vincepg13. :good:

WIFI eap broken?

WIFI seems to perform excellent on this phone and works flawlessly at home. When at work though I have to toggle wifi on and off maybe 3 times an hour. Work uses EAP and I'm thinking this is the culprit. This is the first phone I've had this problem with. Like I said it doesn't do it at home which does not use EAP.
Anyone else experiencing anything similar? By the way I looked into the wifi region fix and didn't think it applied to this situation.
Without knowing more about how the wifi infrastructure is configured, it would be hard to pin point. There are quite a few people using EAP without issue. Can you give any more details?

I don't know what else to say. Without having access to even the location of the router I won't be able to gather much info. I work at a huge facility with router antennas sticking out of the ceiling. I most definitely won't be able to access the configuration settings of the routers either. I don't know what other info I can provide other than its EAP and I use a user name and password to log on

I have the same problem. My g2 would connect to the eap network at work fine, but my galaxy nexus does not with the same exact settings
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Mine connects just fine on the first try but sometimes the internet just won't work. I'll show like 2-3 bars and they are blue but nothing works. Have to toggle wifi to get it back.
Maybe it has to do with me moving from one room to another and the connection drops with no indication? I can not for the life of me figure out how to use log cat! And I've tried many times in the past!
does someone found a solution to this issue?
I am also looking for a solution to get connected with my office wifi network
I'm still having this problem for the record. Different kernels and roms. Only happens at work.

Sorry for my lack of knowledge but can you please explain more in detail what this means?
Unless someone compiles it into aosp from the master branch, you won't really have eap support. I am sure it will be in next ota.

Any solution at all, even temporary would be great
Constantly having to enable and disable wifi to get my connection back is the only thing about his phone I can not stand.
Yes, even a temp solution will be great until it get fixed by Google..

Can't get Foxfi/Mobile Hotspot to work stock, will root definitively make it work?

Hey guys, I just bought myself a HTC One V to upgrade from an Optimus V on VMs Beyond Talk plan. The Optimus severed me well for a while but the internal storage limitation and general sluggishness of the phone prompted me to update. One thing it handled very well though was running Foxfi so I could tether my iPad to it, which actually became my main reason for using the phone other then internet radio and talking. However, this is something that is not working out-of-the-box on my HTC One V, even using Apex Launcher to reveal the hidden "Mobile Hotspot" application on the phone will not work and does the same thing (allows hotspot to be created, lets devices connect, but does NOT allow internet access to the devices) So before I send this back and return to the safety of my Optimus V I'd just like to know for sure if one of the many root-needed tether apps out there will allow an iPad to connect to a mobile Wifi hotspot created by this phone (not USB or bluetooth DUN) because I see many posts out there that state rooting did not help the issue. Thanks in advance guys, keep up the good work.
Do restore factory it may work.
hit thanks if I helped u!!!

I've been trying to get wifi tethering working on stock roms and it hasn't been going well, however, I'm on PACman rom right now with wifi tethering working like a charm
I'm running the rooted stock rom and the standard yellow wifi tether app works fine for me. Sometimes it will randomly go down and have to be restarted but not more than once a day. Also I've never been able to get FoxFi to work on this phone yet.
Settings I use if this helps you guys who can't get it working:
Profile: Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)
Setup-Method: Netd-Ndc (master)

what is the "standard yellow wifi tether app" ?
The app he is referring to is: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Use the settings he mentioned in his post. Your device does need to be rooted but I can confirm that it will allow tethering with no problem on stock ROM.

Thank you!!!! I had rooted my One V today and tried a few tether apps but none of them worked. Remembered I made this thread a while back asking about it and figured I should check it out. This was the first app I tried and of course it didn't work, but I applied the settings you suggested and now works like a charm!! Will still probably flash to something else but just knowing it works on stock is reassuring. Much appreciated!

I'm in the same boat, I posted here long time ago and decided to check again today and it looks that there is a fix now. So how do you like the phone over the LG Optimus V? I bought the HTC ONE V a couple of months ago but didn't activate it because I need the tethering once in a while. How did you root it?
Wifi hotspot only works on JB roms it seems.

Wifi Calling Error

I am just curious if anyone else is having trouble with wifi calling after the update? I can't get mine to connect at all. Sometimes nothing ever happens and sometimes I get an error message ER081.. I googled it and only the Note 4 I believe is reported of having this issue and it was fixed by doing something to the router. I don't think that is the case for me because Ive reset them twice. I reset my phone too. I called TMo and they're clueless. Any ideas??

Just chiming in to say I'm having identical issues. Tried multiple wifi routers (work, friend's place, etc), none work. Unfortunately I don't have any advice beyond what you already mentioned (factory reset).
Questions:
Was your update OTA? I used LG mobile support tool.
Do you think re-downloading/installing the update would be worth trying? My first thought is no. Basically if 99% of functions are working then it seems unlikely there was an error in download/install steps...

So I found out it was my modem from Time Warner Cable. I ran some speed tests on my wifi and it was running extremely slow. I was still getting decent internet speeds on all my devices, but I guess it was slow enough to mess up wifi calling. It turns out they upgraded the firmware around the same time I reflashed 5.0. It was more of a matter of coincidence. Try to have your internet provider factory reset your modem and re-tune the wifi channels.
I have same issue too.
I used LG Mobile support tool too.
my sd card wasn't recognized by g3 at first, so I format the card and now it works.. I just need to fix this wifi calling, and heavy battery usage...
also, when I go check setting, it's pretty much stuck on enabling... and when I mess with VoLTE toggle, sometimes I get error message, 99
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just got off phone with T-Mobile, tech support said, it's known issue, and temp fix is to get OTA via text msg and engineers are working on the backend to fix the issue.

I had the similar issue on my LG G3 after Android 5.0 upgrade. This is because of wifi calling upgrade from 1.0 to 2.0 included in this android update.
I called T-Mobile support and they reset the APN settings over the phone. Issue is fixed now. Great!:highfive:

If any of you want to roll back to kitkat I found a website that showed how to do it and it worked. I am getting alerts to upgrade but will wait til the bugs are fixed
I can't post the link because I haven't made 10 posts yet but if you are interested message me for the link and then maybe you can post if you posted more than 10 times
i called tmobile about this they said LG is aware of it and is working on a fix, when i asked them about hte APN they said nothing they could do on their end....
Just curious, is wifi calling working for anyone after 5.0? I've tried a bunch of APNs no luck. Thanks

Yeah that's what I had to do. I had Time Warner factory reset it. I have the Tmo cellspot router hooked up to the TWC modem and it wasn't working initially either. After they reset it and tuned the signal mine started working with no hiccups.
Try turning wifi off and wifi calling off. Then turn wifi on and wifi calling back on then see if it will work..

I spoke to T Mobile today concerning the WIFI calling not enabling. They stated that they are aware and have been working with LG to get a fix. But there is no time frame for the fix. However, I have a work around that helps me out.
1. Go to settings >> Networks and tap Airplane Mode.
2. Wait for Airplane mode to enable, and, wifi states "Connections not allowed".
3. This is important! Read carefully. otherwise this will not work. While Airplane mode is enabled, enable wifi. Wait! When Airplane Mode goes from being gray to bold then disable Airplane mode.
4. Wait a few seconds and wifi calling will come one.
Mine did stopped working as soon as i upgraded to LP. Went into T-Mobile and got a new sim.

My friend's G3 WiFi calling works fine on T-Mobile with Lollipop.

Are you using anything like Package Disabler Pro?
I ask because I did have WiFi calling, but it's also missing for me now too and I've disabled a load of packages/apps
Although I'm fairly sure the setting was in the actual Phone app settings rather than OS connection settings
Nope

Maybe a bug in the latest update then, the app itself is there but the setting is not
It's super weird my friend has the same phone and he has it
Yea I also had it, I have switched CSCs too though from carrier CSC to unlocked, maybe why for me although I've done that on all my Samsung phones and always still had WiFi calling
Read some people saying factory resetting brought the option back, but I never really needed it, very rare I lose signal in the house which was why I didn't enable it
