Today was my first day at work since i got my Desire on Sat. So it was the day without regular charging.
Firstly, reception was poor as compared to what i was getting with Touch Pro 2. Same network (Orange), same place, less signal bars and less 3G coverage.
Secondly, unplugged phone 7 o'clock this morning, 100% charged. All day only had time for couple of calls (10-15mins). Used internet (3G when available) for max 20-30mins. Tried couple of games for 15-20 mins and at 7 o'clock at night, the battery was 15%. This is not a heavy use by my standards. Used to do a lot more on Touch Pro2 and battery used to last 2-3days. (I know the capaciy difference btw Desire and TP2 battery but still, Desire should last atleat > 24hours)
Not sure if all these issues are related to Orange ROM/Radio. Will we (on Orange) get OTA firmware update like T-mobile, which has apparently improved their battery life? If not then ...... :-(. Not satisfied with the battery life. Shame it is such a good phone but battery life and signal strength is putting me off.
Whats the fun if you have a "superphone" in your pocket but cannot use it to its full potential due to these two isuues.

I totally agree, there are other posts telling us to turn off or reduce all sorts of settings, its ridiculous that you would have to run any phone at less than its full potential just to compensate for a poor battery.
Sure you could buy a second battery but if that was necessary then they should put two in the box
If you leave gps on then you are asking for trouble, a lesser extent wifi. Having a toggle on off isn't such a hardship though. Poor signal hammers the battery too.
I easily last the working day (7-7) with an hour of music and 2 hours surfing and a smattering of calls and texts.

Come on guys, if you have a laptop, and you turn on bluetooth, wi-fi, play some games etc, it WILL run the battery down faster. It's just common sense. Just because this phone does heaps of things, dosn't mean it will last forever. As phones get more features, they are getting worse battery life - in general. And android is a data centric device, I would get used to it, or simply turn off some synching features if you need to get through more than half a day. Or perhaps get a spare battery etc.
Just out of curiosity did you have your previous phone to constantly sync throughout the day for time, email, google account, marketplace updates, location, weather using gps, 3g, hsdpa, accelerometer etc? Remember some of these connect are activated every 5 mins or so. Will make it worse if you have poor reception. COMMON SENSE PPL!
My issue is that even after the T-Mobile update, last night I charged phone on this time and it would only get to 98% again. Then drop down quickly.
If I charge it off, It seems to be ok (although I will test this again.)

My battery life is woeful (TMo uk, updated firmware). I've been trying to figure it out using Juice Plotter to record power usage. Basically, whatever I'm doing, if it's on the battery falls off a cliff - I'd say 10% per 30m and my first impression is that it makes little difference whether networking is enabled or not. This makes little sense to me, I've always found in the past that 3G is just about the most power intensive activity on the smartphone, but it's consistent with some experiences I had flashing roms on my Blackstone - some of them would just run the battery down, others would go for ages. One hypothesis is that when a phone is in that kind of "sick" power state, the drain is not really related to which facilities you're using, but something deeper - perhaps the CPU is running full throttle all the time, or something else. I have no idea what's going on right now but I know I have an unusable phone which lasts half the time my Blackstone did with heavier use. I think many others have the same problem and I wonder if there's a bad batch. Bad news if so as we'd have trouble proving it and getting exchanges.
My next step I think will be to hard reset and run it in a very basic mode for a while, maybe some of the apps are causing it.
I'm also finding out that battery life improves dramatically after the 5th 6th charge. When I first got my Desire I could barely make it through the day, after properly charging and letting it discharge all the way to 10-15% now I get 18-20h of battery life with wi-fi on non stop (but with the setting to to turn itself off after 15mins of inactivity).
I was very worried about this when I first got the phone, but now it's starting to be better and better at battery life. I know my demands from a smartphone when I buy it and if a phone get's me through the day I'm OK with that, plus I have chargers at home, in my car, at work, so it's not a problem
I've got one of the very first batch of T-mobile Desires that were shipped on 26th March. It has been updated with the T-mobile 1.15.110.11 patch.
I last charged it on Saturday afternoon. I've only had to start charging it again this morning Tuesday. I've been making a few calls, probably 10-15 minutes total. A few texts. Browsing with G and 3G, maybe a few of hours worth in total. Little bit of Bluetoothing, though that's only a couple of minutes worth. I've had it down the pub a few hours where the T-mobile signal isn't brilliant, so it will have been doing a little "shouting" to find and communicate with the nearest T-mobile mast.
But that means it's lasted a good 66 hours admittedly with fairly moderate use. GPS, Wifi and Bluetooth are turned off unless needed. And it's not regularly Syncing with Facebook, Twitter and all that stuff. The only regular syncing is the weather.
Not sure if these are bugs with some hardware/software or standard functionality with your usages. I'm getting excellent battery life with my usage patterns/settings and far happier with this than with any of my previous devices, since this adds an exorbitant amount of power-draining functionality and flexibility over them too.
- Heaviest use is netting 28-33 hours.
- Typical use is getting minimum 3-3.5 days.
- Light use (also the norm for me me) lasted 5.5-6 days.
- Basic inconsistent call/message/email/net/stocks/news/stop watch/GPS/ compass/notepad/office/weather/ vid/pic/audio throughout the day kept the battery at 84% after 24 hours. 3G off, using WiFi. I don't keep any but the needy apps/settings running BTW.
- Charges to 100% always and stays up there consistently as expected.
However there is a pertinent aspect yet unmentioned;
Biggest difference between my usage and the typical internet crowd is that I don't use or bother with "social networking" (Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc) or its likes nor do I play any games on this (hence sync with such apps is off and any updates are set to manual). However rss feeds, e-mail and IMs with close ones I do use during the day when I have spare minutes.

I'm deffo leaning now that there are faulty batteries out there causing the problem. I can get good life if I can get the battery to charge properly. but when it doesn't battery lasts hardly half a day. I don't use any apps that require automatic updates (all manual or off). But net on drains it very quickly (if I leave data on). Faulty Batteries I feel.
My Desire has a better ability to hang on to a weak signal than my other phones. I am on T-mobile. Battery life is adeqaute, in that, I can get through a day of use before a charge is needed. Will switch-off GPS and see what happens -I never had GPS on all the time on my other Smartphones.
Coming from a G1 that could barely make it through the day on standby this phone seems pretty good.
I got mine last friday it has just come off of it's third charge. I charged it for 3 hours when I got it, ran it right down >10% then left to charge up fully again.
I installed JuiceDefender and bought the UltimateJuice upgrade as soon as I got the phone.
Day 2 (with JuiceDefender) - battery lasted 13h27m, thats with WiFi, phone calls, MMS, 3g, internet browsing/showing it off to mates in the pub and then listening to an album on spotify in the car.
Considering this is a new battery and it still needs several charges before it is working at full capacity, I think that is pretty good for a smart phone! It can only get better, right?
JuiceDefender - I can't recommend this app enough, I don't want to mess about with Task Killers (that don't really save battery), I don't want to stop stuff syncing (because thats the whole point of this phone) but I want to optimize my battery life to get me through the day and this app does it so well!
I've currently got it setup to turn 2g/3g off when in standby but set to turn data back on every 5mins for 30s to allow apps to sync. You can specify a longer interval which will obviously save more battery over the course of a day. The phone connects back to a 2/3g connection so quick when you bring it out of standby so your not waiting around to get back online.
Switch on WiFi at known locations - I have this setup because at home, 3g signal is a bit patchy and it probably uses more battery constantly trying to get a 3g signal all the time, than it does if it is just connected to WiFi.
Turn data off between 2am-8am while I am sleeping.
Turn data off when battery is below 15% - with my G1 it would hit 15% just as I'd be heading home on the train in the evening, so I'd turn data off just so I could send a few texts or so I had just enough battery to make a call. So I figured I might as well use that last 15% battery for basic phone operation and give me enough battery to get home! I probably don't need this with the Desire though.

WOW, can I have your battery please ...
What did u do to get this powerhouse. Was it weaker in the begining and got better with charges or was it like this from the begining?
I dont use GPS at all. Only for navigation, when in car and then it is on charge. Normal day.. no gps, no auto data connection - do it manually when internet connecttion is neede. But battery doesn't last a day, merely 12-14 hours. Charged 3 times yet, only 3 days old Desire.
I cant find juice defender in the market?
When I first got my Hero I remember my battery life being terrible, most of it was down to fiddling all the time, however over time my usage changed and the battery had been charged a lot the life was a lot better. Also there were a number of radio upgrades installed, which probably helped.
Since I've got my Desire, the "desire" to fiddle hasn't stopped and I feel as if I'm in the same situation as I was with the Hero.
My opinion is that over time the battery life will be better, as with the Hero.

Yes both Ultimate Juice and Juice Defender are in the Market.
Juice defender was missing for me a couple of hours ago. But actually, when I installed it thinkgs started to go wrong for me. May be a coincidence, or may be a conflict with some other sw.
Following shocking power drain, I have hard reset, and left it with nothing syncing and all networking disabled. As you'd expect, battery level is barely falling in standby. Now to start adding things back in and see what efects it has. First step is to spend 30 mins browsing over 3g, previously this would take out 10% of my battery.

I am lucky to even get 12 hours with minimal use. No calls, just some texting and maybe browsing my bank website. Screen is always the killer for me, even on 20% brightness. If I go lower the screen actually flickers.
I bought the red HTC Chichitech batteries and they didn't help me at all.
Tried overclocking module, didn't change much.
The only app that ever shows any significant battery use (over 5%) is Maps, when I use maps.

I am rooted, S-OFF, using the Sense Modaco ROM. Battery usage was no better with the Stock Bell Rom before rooting or S-OFF.
My main concern is the screen flickering at low brightness. it's as if it's unable to decide on a specific level of brightness and makes me question if it's actually saving any power.
I set my phone to Auto brightness and I am going to see if that is actually worse of if it's on par with 20%.
Ugh - just realized there is another thread pretty much all about this. I thought it was a different issue. Still, does anyone know if there is a better batch of phones or something? I have a FutureShop warranty so it'd be easy enough for me to replace if it will actually provide a solution

I would check out the other threads about battery life (including those on the G2 side too) and see if you can get yours to last better. But it could just be something faulty on your phone/battery.

Biggest killers are any widgets that are constantly updating..or facebook/twitter apps that are constantly updating. As well..i recommend SetCPU to underclock your phone when your screen is turned off. This should also help with conserving battery life along with some of the steps provided in that link.

I am considering waiting a month or so and then having mine replaced. Unless I managed to figure something else out. My HTC Legend had better battery life.

The reason I want to try auto or higher brightness is to see if lowering it was actually saving me any battery life. I am curious if there's a driver or display issues that causes it to use the same amount regardless of the setting. So far I don't seem to be running out any faster @ auto than I was at 20%, but it hasn't been a long enough time to tell for sure.
Also I am unable to do the battery tip for the evo because once I turn off the phone and go to charge it again, it's instantly green. But I am going to try it anyway even though it's green.
Since writing the first post I used the OC module to get my phone to 1.2ghz. I have SetCPU set to run on boot with the onDemand setting. I have a profile that says to slow the CPU when the screen is off. From what I've read it doesn't make a ton of difference with this particular phone, but we'll see...

Yep, that's what I found too, when you try and charge it thinks it's already charged and goes green straight away again. But as you said, worth a try.
I just wanted to report back and say that I had my phone replaced. So far so good:
- No screen flicker issue at low brightness
- Battery has lasted nearly 20 hours with moderate-heavy use (played NFS Shift, setup basically everything on the phone after rooting, installed all my apps, backups, flashed some roms, 20+ texts, 3-4 short calls, showing people random apps.)
If it's not all in my head then this is definitely much better now!
Curious. It seems that everyone who reports the screen flickering problem has poor battery life.
Defective displays?
I feel my battery life is pretty bad as well. I've unplugged the phone this morning at 7 AM. Now it's 2 PM, and I'm at 37%. In between, the only things I've done are: send/receive a few emails and chat on gtalk. Brightness is at 40%, animations are turned off, wifi and gps location off. Using latest Cyanogenmod (6.1.1) and have no screen flicker issues
Edit: 17 minutes later, it's now at 27%
How long have you had the phone for?
Initially the first few days I got the phone, battery life was really bad, could drain in a few hours.
After a week or two of use, I now have reasonable battery life, the phone can last all day with light usage and still have lots of juice left. Actually I think if you make a few calls and a few txts, battery could last 2 days. If you play with it, one day for sure but you need to plug in over night.
(if you're talking to me) It's quite new, just picked it up on Friday actually. Also I've kept on researching, and it seems that poor coverage (like I have at work, from 7 til 3) tends to drain the battery even more, since the phone keeps switching between HSPA, 3G, etc.
I had my first one for about a month at least. This replacement was from Saturday.
Today I've had my phone unplugged since 8am, it's 5:30pm and I have 45% battery left, but the screen is the #2 user. Standby is #1 @ 40% of my battery usage, due to over 4 hours of time without a signal. The screen is only 24% and has been on for 48 minutes. Voice calls is #3 at 23% battery usage, with 23mins of calling.
My other phone would have died by now.
Also I spent an hour of streaming bluetooth audio to my car. Bluetooth doesn't even register on the battery usage. I've never seen it use more than 2% and it's always on. I am not sure why people say it uses a lot.
Just want to share my experience.
I too had poor battery life. Stock Bell ROM. Got to 3:00 pm and it used to die. Use this for work. Pushing data all day from Exchange server, bluetooth on all day because I'm in and out of the car, talk on average 30 minutes per day, texting, surfing, tethering, blah blah. Believe it or not, my old Omnia II would get me thru the day no problem.
I was also tempted to return it. But I decided to try a few things. Installed Set CPU and a task killer at the same time. Shut down as many tasks as possible on start up. Widgets and accounts, except Exchange-push, run and sync every hour. I get about 40% battery by dinner. I am happy now .
I'm quite happy with my Desire Z's battery life, It lasts for about 36 hours with moderate use. I have Juicedefender and Ultimatejuice installed, data or wifi are opened only when an app needs data connection, this increased my battery life by 10 hours or sth like that. Nice app.
I had terrible battery life until I went overseas. It is a stock Bell ROM, but I arrived in Spain Monday and am using a Spanish SIM card.
My battery life has increased from 14 hours with Bell's 3G signal to my current 27 hours and 35% remaining battery using GSM and WiFi always on. Funny thing is that no matter where I am it says the screen is by far my biggest power drain.
Where did you buy your Desire Z and how did you get it replaced? I'm with Bell and they would take mine to send out for "repair" but not sure if that will do anything. This will take 3-6 weeks apparently and I'm not sure if they it is worth it.

Max 24h.
I've standard ROM installed.
No WiFi.
Brightness to about 30%.
Juice Defender is installed and I'm surfing and just the regular stuff, but even if it's just in standby, it's taking a lot of power (display takes most)

I bought mine at FutureShop since I didn't think Bell would let me without buying at least a month of service (or being an existing customer). I also purchased FutureShop's extended warranty which is how I was able to get it swapped for a new one so quickly.
I use the extended battery for the evo. Lasts about 1.5 days with ass loads of use. Just have to trim the plastic edges a bit.

I have a couple of those red chichitech batteries but I wasn't able to notice any improvement with the problem phone.
My Desire Z also has a flickering screen at lowest brightness, and with moderate use it dies after about 12 hours max. Even on lowest brightness the screen ueses 59% battery. I rarely manage to make it through the day without having to charge the phone. Im on stock ROM with latest OTA (1.72) btw.
Gonna have it replaced next week just cause of the flickering screen. Has anyone tried the 1700mAH battery from seidio?

You can lower your brightness if it is not already at the lowest setting.
Unfortunately, the galaxy nexus has poor battery life. You could also try turning off data when you don't need it.

I'm having the exact same issue. Screen is totally eating up my battery life. It took 30 minutes for the battery to go down by like 10%. And the screen is 40% of the battery life issue.

Maybe I just don't use the screen as much as you, but I don't find this to be true for me. I find it has great battery life. I don't sit for hours with the screen on, but I do regularly text and check emails throughout the day, do a bit of web browsing, take some calls, and play some Angry Birds or other games in the evening. The screen is always at the top of the list for battery usage, but even on an extreme day I still have more than 30% battery left by the time I go to bed. I throw it on the charger and I'm ready to go again in the morning.
I disagree that the Galaxy Nexus has poor battery life, in general. I would argue that: all high-end phones have "poor" battery life because of all the things they do (especially 720p screens), your personal use of it consumes a lot of power and you could benefit from an extended battery, or you have a faulty device.
hi there, i do that exact same things with no games, so less usage but i get less than a day... i love the phone but the batery is just no working...
I don't understand why people don't get that when you have a screen that is 4.65'' it will destroy the battery life. My screen use is always at 60% or more but yet I still get good battery life. The screen is going to use the majority of your battery when compared to other things, that's just how it is.

Most phones are $600 to $700, and name one 4g phone that will last more than 10 hours with moderate use and no extended battery, just not going to happen. You need to reset your expectations.
GN battery is giving lots of trouble, too. I picked up the phone from charge and it was 100% charged. ! hour of usage with 3g on. Usage includes 1 hours or music and reading of pdf books simultaniously and battery is dropped to 61%.

I think you should take a look at every other android phone that has come out with the same specs in the last year. Everything from the EVO 3d to the thunderbolt have their default battery's not last more than around 6-8 hours with constant use because of the screen & processors.
THis is why Verizon offered the extended batteries at a discounted rate right off the bat, because default batteries have never ever lasted that long in topof the line smartphones. FFS the new iphone 4s I've heard from a friend that their phones don't even last 24 hours.
I have a galaxy nexus, and mine has lasted... let me see.. one sec...1 day 3 hours and 25sec's with 35% left. (of course I have the extended battery) but here's the kicker: the extended battery has basically the same back as the regular phone does. so if they so desired, verizon could technically put out another extended battery just like all the rest of the phones, but they might not do that. I'm content with the battery life as it is almost identical as the droid X from which I came. The only difference is since I have a lot of un-updated apps for ice cream sandwich one of them is using "mediaserver" A LOT. I'm talking about that being the top of my battery draining with the screen being second. They both have taken ~20% with android OS itself taking 13, PlayerPro taking 13, and other random things like calls and txt msging taking ~10% each.
So I would suggest not trying to watch a lot of stuff on your phone while on battery, or don't expect your battery to survive long while watching stuff on that great screen

If your screen usage is less than 50%, it be more worried about what else is killing your battery........
My wife and I both got new Verizon Galaxy Nexus phones about two weeks ago. Having heard of the poor battery life, I immediately bought an official Verizon extended battery; wife stayed with the stock one. After both of us set up our phones and went through a few charge cycles, I noticed something odd: while her battery would last 24-36 hours with mid-level use, mine would die within 9-12 hours with minimal use (it has never made it overnight).
My first thought was that some widget or app was syncing or otherwise waking the phone when it shouldn't, so I removed all the widgets from my homescreens and disabled all syncing but Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Contacts. I also turned the screen down to minimum brightness. Still had the fast discharge issues.
Next step: uninstall all apps that I've downloaded. Battery still drains too fast.
Finally, I did a factory reset of the phone, and did not download any new apps. I thought maybe there was some deeper setting that I had overlooked that was causing the issue. After the reset, the battery had its worst performance yet at ~9.5 hours with bare minimum use (mostly overnight). Wife's phone was still going strong with about 34 hours of usage.
I am in wifi coverage all day (except when driving to/from work), so I have kept that on. Bluetooth and GPS have been off the whole time. Average time without signal is ~2%. 4G is also on. I also tried 1-2 charge cycles with the regular battery to make sure that it wasn't just a faulty extended battery, but it predictably resulted in even worse discharge time.
I have kept track of the battery usage stats both in the standard Settings as well as Badass Battery Manager, but nothing has seemed out of the ordinary. Right now I am charging up my wife's standard battery in my phone, and she is using my extended battery, to make double sure that I didn't just end up with two bad batteries.
Both of us are using stock ICS 4.04, and are not rooted.
She uses her phone for Google Talk, Facebook, Tamadroid (Tamagotchi app), etc. throughout the day (don't have more exact usage stats at the moment), while mine has been sitting practically unused for the last few days while I try to see if my various steps work, so the top drainers have been (in order) Mobile Standby, Phone Idle, and Screen On.
Last night when we went to sleep, my phone was at ~70% on the extended battery, and hers was about 14%. This morning, mine was dead and hers had 5% left.
Is there anything else I could have missed that could contribute to this issue? Unfortunately I do not have access to to my actual usage graphs/stats right now, or I would link them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, it's back to Best Buy to exchange for a new phone.
UPDATE: This was a hardware issue. Exchanged phone and saw immediate, drastic improvement. See my last post for more detail:

It sounds like the battery to me. Not all batteries are created equally. The quality of the components is going to directly lead to the discharge rate, degradation over time, etc. It sounds like the battery you were sold sucks and the stock one would probably work better.
I certainly can't think of anything else you can try. It would seem that swapping batteries with your wife for a day would tell you for sure if it's something to do with the phone or the battery.

I am going to swap out the battery at a Verizon store later tonight, and see if it works any better.
To make a better comparison, compare screen usage as it is the big eater of the battery. You should find it on battery usage.
My galaxy Nexus can ve 2h30 with screen on (+ intensive app using) to get 0% from 100%

Its hard to say why.. but is there anything wrong with the network on your phone? My brother got one, his dropped signal every 2/3 minutes and the battery lasted at least 4-6 hours, you can also check to see what your phone is using in the battery section in settings.

Got a new extended battery from Verizon, and it seemed to be working a lot better during the day. However, once I went to sleep the charge dropped like a rock! I am doing a new charge cycle with Badass Battery Manager watching over it, and will post pictures when it is done. I have no apps other than fully updated stock apps and the battery manager. This is incredibly frustrating because my wife's phone is not experiencing any issues overnight. It is looking more and more like this is a faulty handset...
Got some usage stats now. Here is the first full cycle on the new extended battery; seemed pretty good at about 1d 5h. Unfortunately, it has gone downhill from there.
looks like your phone was working for a signal alot of the time.
Here are the results from the next cycle; there is already a noticeable drop to just over 22h.

yeah you have terrible signal. your phone is trying to push for a better signal, which causes more power drain.
if you look at your signal graph, you hit red signal, which is near dropped signal range.
This is from last night. After letting the battery completely discharge, I recharged it while the phone was off. It hit 100% around 12:30AM, when I went to sleep. Fast forward to 8:00AM, and the phone has discharged 66%! Obviously, I was not answering calls/texts/etc. during this time.

Yup, he seems to have a lot of horrible coverage in his area or his phone is in a terrible spot where there is hardly any signal.
Test your phone around your town or home.
Your signal should pretty much look like this
I'm usually full bars, rarely do I drop below to three.
If it helps, disable 4g until you need it.. it will saviour some of your battery.

This makes sense, but for that my wife's phone is usually in the same general area and is getting significantly better life. Could the signal difference at my work compared to home really cause that big a discrepancy? I am usually at 3 bars, according to Phone Radio's settings. This would also not account for the massive overnight drain that her phone does not experience 6 feet away.
I installed Badass Battery Monitor and CPU Spy on her phone for comparisons; I will check her signal levels when I get home.

Well I hope its not a hardware issue on your phone.
I've seen way too many people having this issue recently.. .My literally only issue is my screen, its covered in tint. Yellow, red, blue, purple :/ funny I get a perfect hardware phone and get a ****ty screen. Not going to return it to take chances.
Its possible you may need to update your radio - depending on it, for various users it has different effects on battery life and signal.
Anyway looking forward to the results.

The radio would affect the "time without signal," right? Last night (66% drop in ~7.5hr) it said I was without signal for 4% of the time.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but.. the RADIO should help or make your coverage "signal" worse. If its hardware or just horrible signal the % loss should be a lot higher with normally about an hour of screen on it should show around 20-40% signal loss.
Normally signal loss is around 2-4%.
I would keep an eye on your signal bar "on the status bar" if it drops - plummets to an empty bar with an × then its possible you have a hardware issue. If it don't drop or if it does check the signal loss occasionally to see how much is lost.
If its horrible signal I do suggest a new radio to help you, if you dabble in the radio world.. please read carefully on them. They can cause serious issues if you get a bad download or wrong download "md5 mismatch". At the least harmful it can boot but without any type of signal etc.
Its easy to use but can be dangerous to your device if not handled properly

Mine is 4% loss also. I've never noticed any significant differences in battery life going from the cornfields to the city.
This phone is known for radio issues. It's pretty disappointing but I've just grown used to it.
Which radios are you currently on? Settings, about, baseband. Should say fc04 fc05 if you're on the latest.
Some people have better luck with different radio combinations depending on their phone.
From your battery Stats its like you barely use your phone. Could you show a screen shot of cpu spy?
Would you consider a different rom and kernel?

Assuming you mean me, give me a few hours? Gonna throw on a full charge and wear it down. I'll give my screens of my phone when its near dead, I heavily use my phone. I'm surprised I was on 2hours with half battery after watching videos.

If it is a faulty radio, would it be in my best interest to exchange the phone at Best Buy? I have about another week to do that if necessary.
I'm having similar issues, although it doesn't seem as bad. I'm going to take the chance of exchanging it because I also have 4G dropping issues, because like you said, we've got a week, and I'll exchange the phone as many times as I need to until I get a *new* one without any issues.

Well, I just purchased a Note 2 and am still in the "evaluation phase". I really do like the phone, fast, amazing battery and awesome signal. However I am asking this because I ama wondering if I am getting all that I can be from my Galaxy Nexus before I decide to keep the Note 2 for $700+.
For reference I have recently been using the Euroskank CM10.1 releases with Franco's newest kernel and undervolting CPU to approximately the values in the LeanKernel Aggressive Undervolt levels as well as knocking down all IVA and CORE voltage 100mv.
I can generally stretch the Nexus' battery life to 13 or 14 hours, but that's with <2 hours of screen on time. If I am using it a lot 8 hours of battery life is lucky, if not less. This really isn't with any gaming or using it for listening to anything, just genrally Facebook and the internet. I do leave LTE on even though at work I can only get 3G. I have turned LTE off before but honestly I have never seen an increase in battery life from doing so. This goes to signal issue also, at work it will go to 30% or more time without signal and Cell Standby will be the second highest use of battery. I have a refurbed unit from Asurion that is version 10 and using the latest radios for CDMA and LTE. The Note 2 in the same usage environment reported 0% time without signal and Cell Standby was way down the list of power usage.
So, basically I am wondering, am I getting everything out of the Nexus that I can, or should I be getting better numbers. Maybe some of you on here can verify that the Note 2 is actually better for signal etc. or that I am just being delusional. Thanks in advance to all of you!

Thanks for the reply, good to hear my battery life isn't out of the ordinary. Signal does seem bad on mine though, I am going to call Asurion as this one runs unusually hot, uncofortably hot to hold even.
Yeah, mine gets fine signal, though the current radio firmware that came with the 4.1.1 OTA seems to have a problem hanging onto LTE signal indoors. I'm sure it'll get fixed in the next OTA (hopefully to 4.2.1). As far as battery life, it's what you would expect from an LTE phone...about 2.5 hours of screen-on time, maybe 3 if you're really lucky. Battery life can be affected by so many things like apps you have installed, screen time, cell signal, etc.
One thing I'll tell you, though...you'll find your battery life go up by at least 30% by keeping it connected to WiFi. If you're on a cell connection, your battery is going to zap a lot faster because as a matter of principle, cell modems are far more power-intensive than WiFi is because WiFi is a much shorter-range technology, thus the transmitters don't have to put out nearly as much power. Also, if not connected to WiFi, weak cell signals are going to drain your battery even faster than a stronger signal.
But, as long as you keep the phone on WiFi when you can, you'll find the battery life is no better or worse than most other LTE phones.

With WiFi, easily 15 hours with ~2 hours screen time. With LTE enabled, usually around 6-8 with ~1.5 hours of screen time. I also get pretty bad signal around my city.

Well the Note 2 destroys the Nexus in battery life and signal reception to be honest, but then again a 3100mAh battery should. I like the Nexus and I am trying to get myself to keep it over the Note because having AOSP rocks and so does saving like $850.
