[Q] FoxFi Alternative? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

For those of you on 4.0.4 and above, what are you using these days for a FoxFi alternative?
I just switched to T-mobile's truly unlimited 4G plan, and I have a lot of opportunities for WiFi tethering I'd like to take advantage of. And (because I'm behind the times) I just learned that 4.0.4 and above are not supported by FoxFi.

Use Wifi Tether from the play store. Make sure you go into settings and set it to Galaxy S II.

Cool, and does it hide from T-mobile pretty well?
Is this the one you're referring to: WiFi Tether for Root Users (Not able to post links yet according to XDA)
Because I'm not rooted.

I've tried this app and I'm rooted and it dont work for mí

Works great for me. Yes it gets around their pay for tether. The reason some are having issues with it is because they aren't going into settings and selecting their device profile to galaxy s ii.
You're going to have to root to get around their tether restrictions.

Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus wifi tethering?

I was wondering, is there a way that I can use free Wifi tethering with my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus?
I have just recently rooted my phone.
Of course! Use Wifi Teather for Root users. You can find it in the Play Store. I use it every day.

They all offer WPA/WPA2 security.
Yeah the settings are great. You can choose the name of the connection, security and even enable per device access. Have fun!

I'm happy I came across this thread, Wi-Fi tether came on the ROM I used on my Revolution, and in a moment of dumb, I never thought to look for it in the market.
I just rooted my Nexus tonight, and I just downloaded this.
Good memories, it's a great app.
I just used wifi tether for the first time yesterday and was honestly surprised at how well it works. Does it have any effect on my data plan?
Some of the custom roms removed the carrier restrictions on the built in wifi tether. Check your rom's forum too.

OMG I love you! That works for T-Mobile as well! For some reason though it doesn't work on Chrome; I'm on Firefox now and it's working flawlessly.

No data cap here. I used about 15g last month and the month before. No throttling either.

If you are referring to the stock verizon hotspot app, you have to pay a monthly fee. That is why he is mentioning this other app.
works on sprint, unlike the latest play store version(tried yesturday).

Had the same problem at first. Kept changing the settings as the ones mentioned earlier in the thread initially did not work. Finally the mac saw the device and connected (turned airport off then back on), but no data transfer. Kept messing with settings, turning tether on and off.
All of a sudden it just started working. Tested it on two separate computers and both worked fine. I wish I could say what I did but honestly I think the settings mentioned above are correct but for some reason, you just need to fiddle with tether a bit until you get it to work. Once it starts working, it seems to be fine after that.
Are any of you being throttled in any way? I've installed this on my Dinc4g and my downloads seem to be throttled. I'm getting .7/5 when using Wifi-Tether.. but speedtest from the phone is constantly getting 12/12.
It's functioning fine, I just can't find a way to get my speeds to be the same as they are on the phone.
Are you guys doing anything special with disabling/removing specific Verizon apps, or is a simple root + wifi-tether working flawlessly?

Tether without rooting?

Is there a way to tether on a TMobile S3 without rooting the phone?
While the S3 is an awesome phone, not having tethering sucks. I travel alot and hate to pay for internet.
Please help. Would be used for an Vista Windows laptop and the Asus Transformer TF101 android tablet.
S3 has built in wifi hot spot, just pay t-mobile the tethering fee
why don't you want to root? It's pretty simple to do so, and the benefit is great.

Last i checked wifi tether with Foxfi was unsupported for our phones. However bluetooth tether worked perfect for me stock unrooted. And I gta ask same question as above, why not just root? You bought a Samsung. Now show it.
Try going to http://foxfi.com/bin and side loading it.
If you go to the play store and look at the Fox fi add on app the site is listed in the description.

ClockworkMod Tether (no root) (https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5rb3VzaGlrZHV0dGEudGV0aGVyIl0.) worked for me. Note that this is USB cable tethering and you need to install a driver on the computer so it won't work on the tablet.

T-mobile Tether block bypass for chrome book?

I have an unlocked galaxy nexus running Franco r364. I just bought a Samsung arm chrome book and it will see the nexus Wi-Fi hotspot but will not connect. It let me tether however for a while then blocked it. I have the unlimited data no tethering plan. Does anyone know how to bypass the tethering block or know how I can get the chromebook to connect to the Wi-Fi hotspot. I've researched and found tether bypasses such as clock work tether that work for PC or Mac but not chrome OS anyone experiencing the same issue or have found a solution. Thanks in advance.

Use the stock teethering feature in android.
T-mobile doesn't have software blocking your device because it's not T-mobile firmware but rather stock google.
you need to enable teethering on your device.
verify that your APN TYPE in your APN settings says "default, supl, dun, mms"
that should enable teethering on your stock device.

I think he's trying to say that you should use the stock wireless tethering hotspot function instead of a third party app. Also to modify the APN with the parameters he provided
Just for the record 1gb(p)s is not slow at all...roughly 800mbps

I added the "dun," in and my computer is telling that it cannot connect to the network. Am I don't something wrong? That's with the Wi-Fi tether. I can connect with the USB tether, but I can't access the internet. I get a message from T-Mobile saying, "Turn your Smartphone into a Mobile Hotspot! Share your smartphone's high-speed internet connection […]." I can't move beyond this webpage, either. Ugh. This sucks. :-/

The way they catch you is by the UAString. On their side, it makes it look like a desktop is using your data and hence the reason you get blocked. Not too familiar with Chrome OS, but see if there are any add ons for chrome that will change the UA String( User Agent String)

I got a family plan with unlimited calls and text. I had 5gb data with hot spot but they recently came out with the uncapped unlimited data and igot it because I knew I was rooted and could still tether. Guess they caught on because as of Feb 1st it keeps redirecting to T-Mobile. I can still get away with it on my ps3 though that's about it.

I have this problem too, almost. I have the Sprint variant and I don't get redirected to a site on my Samsung ARM CB.
When on any Jellybean rom, my CB sees the built in hotspot from the gnex but says it can't connect to it. Works perfectly on cm9.1, although only when the hotspot is an open network. I honestly can't believe 2 Google devices won't work together.

Switching to an Android use agent works
Since I bought a Samsung Chromebook in July, I had no trouble using my T-Mobile $30 5GB plan to tether to it . . . until today.
I was unhappy until I switched user agents to an Android user agent. A couple (Android 4.0.2 for Galaxy Nexus & Chrome for Android Tablet) different user agents did the trick.

I just got a Galaxy Nexus. I had a Droid 2 global that I used Easy Tether Pro with. Now for some reason it does not work on my new phone. I had paid for the app so I want to keep using it. The PC I use it on is Windows 7. Any idea would be great.

You're on VZW. The FCC ruled they cannot charge you twice for data, tethering or not. Use the built in tethering option.
