I am waiting for my DInc2 to arrive in the mail (switched from Fascinate) and I want to know if there is a way to tether (wireless or USB). I currently have my Fascinate rooted and am using wireless tether app from the market place and it works perfect. Does anyone know if this will work on the DInc2 or have another option?
I think from VZW you get an app that allows for tethering right out of the box, paid. IMO, with root install the latest CM which includes wifi tethering built in and is "free" through Verizon's eyes. The alternative is get root on your new Inc 2 and use the beta Wireless tether app: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
For wired tether I like EasyTether (paid, non root, Amazon App Store) or Wireless Tether (free, root, Google search) for wireless tethering (duh!).

U can root your phone, then use Barnacle, its in the market, it wifi, of u can buy easy tether pro from market, its ish tether, both will not cost any extra on ur plan and are unlimited, but the Verizon app that comes with it will cost u extra, 30 a month I think, and is limited, 4gb a month a think.

Barnacle's method is ad-hoc and many other android phones can't use that network. You need the true wifi-tethering. CM7 and Verizon paid tethering are that.

Yes. There are apps for free USB tethering if your phone is not rooted.

The best way IMO is what deaffob said. Root your Dinc2 and install CM7 which has wireless tethering as a built in feature. It works great.
That is all great info. Thank you. CM7 is stable on DInc2? What verison are you guys using? Link? Also where are the files to get me back to 100% stock if I want to go back? Link? Thanks...

I don't quite understand what they meant by other Android phones cant use adhoc, but urs can, so its fine, if they meant computers, I don't know, has worked on all I tried. What I meant is, for example, if your cousin visits you from another country but has a smartphone, he'd want to use some internet while you are at the coffee shop. But you can't tether your internet to him with Barnacle. Normally, computers can use adhoc very well.

If you are referring to the stock verizon hotspot app, you have to pay a monthly fee. That is why he is mentioning this other app.

Had the same problem at first. Kept changing the settings as the ones mentioned earlier in the thread initially did not work. Finally the mac saw the device and connected (turned airport off then back on), but no data transfer. Kept messing with settings, turning tether on and off.
All of a sudden it just started working. Tested it on two separate computers and both worked fine. I wish I could say what I did but honestly I think the settings mentioned above are correct but for some reason, you just need to fiddle with tether a bit until you get it to work. Once it starts working, it seems to be fine after that.
Are any of you being throttled in any way? I've installed this on my Dinc4g and my downloads seem to be throttled. I'm getting .7/5 when using Wifi-Tether.. but speedtest from the phone is constantly getting 12/12.
It's functioning fine, I just can't find a way to get my speeds to be the same as they are on the phone.
Are you guys doing anything special with disabling/removing specific Verizon apps, or is a simple root + wifi-tether working flawlessly?
Is there a way to tether on a TMobile S3 without rooting the phone?
While the S3 is an awesome phone, not having tethering sucks. I travel alot and hate to pay for internet.

S3 has built in wifi hot spot, just pay t-mobile the tethering fee
why don't you want to root? It's pretty simple to do so, and the benefit is great.

Last i checked wifi tether with Foxfi was unsupported for our phones. However bluetooth tether worked perfect for me stock unrooted. And I gta ask same question as above, why not just root? You bought a Samsung. Now show it.
Try going to http://foxfi.com/bin and side loading it.
If you go to the play store and look at the Fox fi add on app the site is listed in the description.

ClockworkMod Tether (no root) (https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5rb3VzaGlrZHV0dGEudGV0aGVyIl0.) worked for me. Note that this is USB cable tethering and you need to install a driver on the computer so it won't work on the tablet.

Okay so when I signed up my contract I was on a plan with unlimited Data. I'm never using more then 2 GB, I use the tethering so rarely and yesterday I turned it on because I needed to check something on one website and I got to T-Mobile Page saying that I have to update (wtf?) I already paid for my data, who are they to decide how and where I can use my data? They don't know what the heck they're doing.
I never had any issues like this before, I was tethering just fine and now they suddenly decided that I need to update my plan? Well hell no I'm not going to do it.
So let's pick this thing apart and figure out how to tether without going to their stupid - UPDATE ME page. Mofos what a lame thing they did, I'm so disappointed from T-Mobile right now. (Yea let's do it let's make a couple extra cashhhhhh, it wouldn't hurt rightt??)
I've read that it would work if I delete Tethering Manager or Tethering Provisions with Titanium Backup, I'm on official Stock ICS rooted / I deleted Tethering Provisions only because I don't have Tethering manager in my apps and still nothing - I'm still gething redirected.
I just want to mention that when I deleted Tethering provisions (I restarted the phone, the tethering worked for like 5 minutes and then stopped working again).
So anyone have any ideas how to stop them from screwing around with their clients?

This is the easiest way to make sure it works 100%... You can have tethering working with chrome browser, and most other tablets or phones. Tmobile can't tell the difference. Anything else is hit or miss...
Instead of using the stock tethering option download a separate application for tethering. Although some of them are still blocked I have heard that using the clock work mod tethering app will work. I guess mainly because it uses an app on your phone and a client app on the computer.
But there are several apps out that will get around t Mobile blocking tethering. Just looking up and trying out..
Also if you use AOKP . the built in tethering works fine it might also be the same in cM 10 or even 9. I know this because I use the brand new fully unlimited 4 G Plan and I need full to tether just fine to my laptop without any extra applications.

I use chrome all the time and I get the tmo website. the reason you see the page now is because old tmobile sim cards takes a while for them to realize that you are tethering. as the new sim doesnt. tmobile probably already figured you were tethering.
you can also flash a custom rom and then you can tether that way

I am on Jedi Mind Trick and tethering only works for me on chrome and my ps3 when using netflix or the youtube app... from what i've read tmobile is using user agent strings to block tethering... That means that you don't have a tethering plan. If you can tether w/o the tethering plan then you should be fine.

i think alot of the plans come with Tethering (but limited to the amount of data you get before throttling). Only one of the new plans (unlimited data) didnt have tethering built in in my recollection.
in addition to the already mentioned. i read in other threads that you need to use the toggle from the pulldown menu to activate hotspot, otherwise you get the upgrade screen. personally ive always only used the toggle from the pulldown to activate my tether and never received the upgrade screen.

If you are on the unlimited plan, or any plan that does NOT have tethering included, you will be noticed. You have a grace data allotment of i believe 200MB then you are shut off. There are ways around it and Google will tell you those ways
Why is everyone so concerned....
Theres a well known root tether setup for all galaxys called "trevemod tether" with a tutorial in the general sectio for many phones also requires using hot spot shield vpn app .So tether plan or not , you can get away with tethering the data u pay for to any device...
It hides and blocks what u tether to, thus making tmo think your just using a whole lot of extra bandwidth on your device
ROOT is required.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
Maybe it is just me, but does anyone else get irritated by people that want to steal bandwidth? Someone has to pay. Maybe people should pay for the features they desire.

Absolutely... I'll make a reasonable effort to be reasonable... I called them and asked to pay for tethering to go with my unlimited data plan... so I can watch some netflix on my phone when I'm away on business. I figured an extra $30 would be fair. They don't offer anything like that... although... they charge $10/MB for roaming data in Canada, so... I won't die of guilt.
Besides, as I'm fond of saying... we can't all beat the system heh heh!:laugh::laugh: You're right... someone has to pay. Someone not smart enough to figure out how to get a discount. peace bro.
uhhh we already pay for the data service and the hardware and the os which has it built in. there's nothing to feel bad about. I've used 70gb data in a month with sprint and they didn't complain
