Fast USB Charge Toggle Widget (1x1) - Nexus 4 Themes and Apps

Hey Guys.
Since I use fast USB charge with Franco's kernel a lot, but also develop on my phone quite a bit, I have a need to toggle fast charge on and off quite frequently, so I created a 1x1 home screen widget for quicker access for enabling / disabling, rather than having to launch an app, etc, to turn on/off.
It's also nice for re-enabling quickly after a reboot. It's $0.99 on the Play Store:
Fast USB Charge Toggle Widget
Quick and dirty but does the trick

You think so? I compared it to any other options, and the minimum was $1.49. Certainly if it's too much, you don't have to purchase .
I'm not sure how much you value your own time, in terms of its worth, but development takes time, and according to you, that has no value? Gosh, you'd think I put it up at $10.00 or something...

awesome. before this need to go through many steps to enable/disable fast charge using franco app.
now it is just one touch on the homescreen. :good:

Thanks. I thought it would be pretty useful, based on my own use case / scenario, and figured it would be fun to develop and that others would hopefully find it useful (and see value it in) as well. It's certainly not curing cancer or anything tough
Your description above is the exact reason why I put it together.

Just bought it. I don't mind it its $1, at least I'm supporting the Dev and I'll get some use out of it.

Perhaps a stupid question, but does this also speed up charging from PC USB ports?

Not a stupid question. First obviously, your kernel has to support fast USB charge, and second, as long as the USB port on your PC can put out enough power, yes, it will charge in "AC" mode.
You can verify / check by going to your battery stats page, when toggled on and plugged into the USB port, where it will show as 'AC' for charging mode.
If the above conditions are met and you still don't see 'AC', your USB port doesn't support it.
It's also important to note than when in fast charge mode, your phone is invisible to your computer, so it's nice to be able to quickly toggle back and forth (connect / reconnect the USB plug as well), when you need to access the SD card or use ADB, etc.

Did you know mate that you should at least offer either a free/little version or attach an apk file here for the users along with your paid app ?
It seems like a pretty useful little app though.

There's really no way to make a free versus "pro" version given it's a toggle widget, unless the free version allows you to toggle on, but not off, lol .

I think he means this site is generally for open source, no cost software. This is why if someone were to ask for money for a ROM people would poop a brick. It's also why things like setcpu have previously had a free xda version included. Makes sense, if the community helped you (and you didn't write those kernels yourself that ACTUALLY enable quick charging, so it has) you're meant to give back. In other words, XDA is more than a free billboard. Not taking a position myself, just explaining the reasoning.

In the same fashion, those that release kernels with fast charge enabled didn't write the kernels either (compiled with tweaks), yet virtually every kernel thread out there has a custom paid corresponding app, not freely attached to the OP of the thread. Interesting...

wow only 3 days... i guess XDANDROID does have battery issues
I bought a 2400 mAh battery from amazon and it gives me pretty good life with android. I use it up in a day though just due to my non stop toying with the OS and apps. I really push it hardcore with overclocking and major syncing and updates every 15 minutes, on as much as I can, and this battery will last me about 4-6 hours. If I'm frugal about the usage, it will work all day and usually still be on when I wake up in the morning.
Link if anyone is interested:
http://www.amazon.com/Fosmon%C2%AE-Capacity-2400mAh-Rechargeable-Neckstrap/dp/B0028OYO08/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1278427866&sr=8-1
And yes, it's freakin huge! It looks very awkward in my pocket.
Hi can anyone see if Project inf works? It says connection lost for me when trying to load into a game, though I can connect to it and make a character.
What I am trying to figure out is if it's a device problem or just my wifi.
It's free and can be found in the market.

3000 mah
You've also said that we shouldn't believe the battery meter but when do I really now it is about to end then? I dont know if the battery life is good or bad without the meter :S
i got a 2400mah off ebay too. lasts about twice as long as the standard battery.
i also have a 1500mah battery. gets me maybe an 30mins to an hour longer useage.
those of you with the 2400mah, does battery reporting work in winmo? the one i have i got for my g/fs diamond. threw it in my tp and the battery reporting does not work, however in android it does. (not correctly of course).
as far as telling how much battery is there, the gauge we have is best right now. i usually give it an hour or 2 once it tells me it has 5% left. i notice performace take a big hit once my battery is about to die. everything gets real screwy.

As far as I can tell, it seems to be changing, however, I spend so little time in winmo anymore, I really couldn't tell you if its accurate. Are we supposed to change anything in Android to reflect the bigger mAh battery for more accurate readings? I seem to recall that there is a setting somewhere to change the mAh rating of your battery.
there is a setting but i believe it is built into the system.ext2
not something we can easily change ourselves.
and no, when in winmo, it doesn't read that there is a battery there at all lol.
I just checked. My battery is definitely showing up in winmo, and it changes as the battery is used.
if you download the free app in the market call: BatteryTime Lite", It will allow you to set the battery 's Mah ratings
Wasn't sure where to put this, so I'll throw it here.
Do we have a key mapped to the "search" button in Android? I can't seem to find one at all. Reason I ask is the app AndChat uses the search hardkey for nick autocompletion... So how can I use it to autocomplete nicks? Thanks!
LED Flashlight?
Is there a version of hTorch for Android?
I tried a few "LED flashlight" apps from the market but none work.
Then again, perhaps the camera LED isn't even enabled yet if the camera isn't?
I use the LED "flashlight" more than the camera.
Maybe I just need to buy a keychain flashlight. LOL

afaik its optional to have a search button. On devices such as raph/diam we dont have the option. Some native android phone dont have the button either so we arent missing a core button.

Thanks to all the xdandroid devs. Using xdandroid on my AT&T Fuze convinced me that my next phone would be an android phone. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) that time has come. The external speaker on my Fuze died last night so I now have a Captivate on order. (I was hoping to wait for a new HTC android phone on AT&T, but the Captivate seems to be the best available right now.)
Thanks again for all the time the devs have dedicated to making android work on the older WinMo phones. Without you I'd probably be getting a Tilt2 or Blackberry.

[APP][22.09.2011][v1.1] NoMoarPowah! - Charging screen replacement - ROOT

NoMoarPowah! replaces that boring charging animation when your phone is turned off but connected to the charger with a fully functional program!
In the history of silly stuff I have made, this is perhaps the silliest
This app is only for a select number of Samsung devices. It does not work on any other devices. See the list below
This app requires a fully rooted device
NoMoarPowah! can automatically reboot into Android when charging is done. Either when fully charged, or when the battery level reaches 15% and Android has enough juice to run.
But wait, there's more! NoMoarPowah! can also reboot at a custom time. It will even suggest times based on your currently set alarms, so your phone will be rebooted just before the alarm goes off and you need to wake up! This way you can be sure nobody will bother you while take your well-deserved nap, but still wake up when you need to.
Tested on the following devices:
- Samsung Galaxy S (I9000) and family
- Samsung Galaxy S2 (I9100) and family
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" (P1000) and family
- Samsung Droid Charge
- Samsung/T-Mobile Sidekick 4G
- Samsung Continuum (ticker overlaps)
It half works on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (all models): the functionality is there, but the touch screen does not work in charging mode.
Other devices from the Samsung Galaxy series with a resolution of 800x480 or more may work as well.
Some custom ROMs may disable NoMoarPowah! functionality

Screenshots are attached for those interested.

You don't need to have a dock necessarily. Just the MHL cable. There are some 3rd party docks already that sit it up vertically on its USB port I think.

unique problem i see for the moment is that (requirements) you need mhl AND usb and you only achieve that with special dock BUT i could imagine just hooking the mhl and the use bluetooth if it works
I want to see it on my Nexus

I'm really excited about this. I need this at my home because I only use my laptop for productivity. This will make me more productive without my laptop. One step closer to getting rid of the laptop.
I believe Google were thinking along the same lines for Jelly Bean and ChromeOS integration.

exactly the point i was getting at, we need something to hook up our usb wireless keyboard and mouse dongles if this is going to be something they want us to use on a monitor or big screen tv, basically we need a 2nd female mini usb port or have it give us a HDMI/USB port from the single mini usb
Sounds awesome! but only really useful if you can dual boot between Ubuntu and ICS.. or even better, quick switch between the 2 but you would have to have way more RAM than 1GB
I hate to burst everyone's bubble. Ubuntu was at ces and when I saw this live(Motorola atrix) I asked them if the source will be released? Sadly enough, they stated that it was going to be sold to OEMs as a means of funding the Ubuntu project. I don't really blame them since you have to make money somewhere. Just wanted to say that it may be a long while before your gnex has Ubuntu on it.

did you read the article? Do you understand Motorola's web top?
Basically you phone runs a small starter program all the time, this allows web top (Ubuntu) to detect when you connect the web top (MHL & USB) accessories. It then runs web top (Ubuntu) OS with android (at least in web top) in a window on the screen. This allows full access to both OS's at the same time while reducing resource demand (since they share the kernel) and not forcing a complete reboot.

...and furthermore it takes much more energy to manufacture a photovoltaic cell than it will ever reproduce in it's effective working life time. Plus the damage to the environment involved in the processing of the chemicals used to make these cells is something the solar panel industry doesn't want you to know. It's one of the reasons the world isn't solar powered yet.
The other one being that even the high-end (expensive) ones that only drop 1% efficiency per year, will see you wait approx 10 years before they've paid for themselves. Few people take the risk of needing to be in one place for that long just to see a return on their investment.

Got my Cam Module in...

Here are my thoughts on the LG Cam Plus Module:
I got the only module that my local T-Mobile store got in. I was lucky that one of the reps called me before she even put it in stock and held it for me. Awesome service right there!!!
FEEL
So far, I really like the extra heft. For those of you who remember the Verizon HTC Thunderbolt, it feels a little like the extra battery did but at the bottom and not the middle. It's a great feeling. I have fairly large hands from bodybuilding and it is a bit awkward thus far to turn the phone over to use the module. But, I think I'll get used to that quickly. Really big hands people will likely want to steer away from the module as it won't benefit them much.
The dial isn't as nice as I would like. I was hoping it would have some feedback like a traditional camera dial does, but it doesn't. Not a big deal, but I did notice it nonetheless. It is a major improvement over not having the module, though!
LOOK
It looks okay... I wish the colors were more coordinated. The gold and silver combo don't look very good in my opinion. Black and silver and then silver and silver would be good. So, I really wish they made the module in black only.
It is all plastic from what I can tell, which I don't like whatsoever. But, for plastic, it does have a good feel. I will say that.
BATTERY
This is where I have a major concern. If you look at the battery specs, it only qualifies for Quick Charge 2.0 for input and output. It is only 5v/9v for input and only 5v for output. I'll be able to confirm shortly whether or not my phone says it's quick charging or not with the module attached. I did notice earlier while using the module that while charging the phone, it heated up a bit like QC 2.0 not 3.0, for whatever that's worth.
OVERALL IMPRESSIONS
So far, I'm glad I got it. I'm on many estimates for contracts throughout the day and I can see how it will make things easier to take pictures. A lack of a case does concern me, but I guess that's what insurance is for lol (as I found out with my V10).
The extra battery will come in handy I'm sure as I'm going thru juice quite a bit. I use my phone heavily. I have two numbers going to my phone for calls and texts (gv). I use my phone at least for 4 hours a day for calls to give you an idea. I'll report back on the extended battery life and what I can determine as to the charging current with the module battery. I'm not sure how much of a definitive answer I can find without root since I don't think ampere will work without root. I've attached a bunch of pictures for you guys. Let me know if you have any questions I can try to answer.
Edit: I forgot to mention that the speaker seems to be better than the stock module. I didn't notice any crackling at higher volumes as I did with the stock module.
Edit 2: I can confirm that the module does NOT quick charge your phone. When a quick charger is plugged into the pack, I can confirm that the phone will quick charge but the module itself does not seem to quick charge judging from the fact that it took about an hour and a half to go from 0-Full while plugged into a QC 2.0 charger by itself. I have attached a picture of the phone charging from the module in Ampere.

Edit 3: I've noticed during my workout that the battery stops charging after around 15 minutes. Each time I have to turn the module back on... Very weird. Hopefully LG will change this in the future.

how much was it?
I saw one at my local T-Mobile today. I wanted to purchase, but they didn't have any besides the demo unit. It feels exactly how it looks, lol. It was $79.99.

It's $69.99. I'm still enjoying it. Trying to pinpoint how much extra battery life exactly I'm getting. The only thing I don't like about the modules is how easily they come out.

I wonder why there is cam module for just AT&T and then theres ones for the rest of the carriers....dont believe me? http://www.lg.com/us/lg-friends
Could you use this with the Spigen Style Armor case? I would think so since the case separates at the chin for easy battery removal.

This Australian article suggests the Cam Plus is only designed to charge the main battery when you're using the camera...maybe that explains your 15 min cutoff?
This module could've been so great with a clicky, multifunction wheel and a proper extended battery. Hope a custom kernel can fix it!

wrong. you can charge the phone without going into the camera app just by simply pressing the power button of the module once.
@PENKO956 OK. Once for a full charge or once every 15 minutes? Also isn't the power button on the Cam Plus designed to launch the camera? Or is that another button...?
