Reboot to recovery, Clear caches, (Dalvik too) reboot phone, see if it works.

i had this issue when i bought a "lot" of cables from e-bay/amazon. Turned out they were "data only" cables and never provided power.

Interesting... I always buy my cables off Monoprice. They are cheap and they have a really good return/exchange policy.

yeah didn't change cables or anything... i'll try the clear cache and davik

It's most likely the cable,

It can't show 100% unless the voltage at the leads of the battery is 4.2-4.3V.
At the same time, 9% is around 3.6-3.65V.
Can a bad cable fool the phone into thinking that the voltage isn't what it really is?
What is the phone showing for the battery voltage when you unplug? There apps like System Panel (in Settings/Monitor) which can show voltage.

Stock charger or an older/cheap one?
Sent from my SPH-L710

stock charger - been working for 9 months. i cleared cache + davik, and now its taking forever to charge

I had this issue on stock touchwiz for Galaxy S (SCH-I500). Whenever the battery was fully charged, it would quit charging, say unplug battery, and would not update the battery % (always showed 100) until I unplugged the phone. Once unplugged, it would immediately drop to the actual %. When using TouchWiz, I had to use kernels with trickle charge to solve this.

I've had issues like this when I was using " Bargin " USB Cables. Learned my lesson after having multiple issues with file transfers, and charging.

Do you have any app which control battery? If yes uninstall it.

[Q] Battery % drops while charging

Hello all, new to the E4GT world from the OG evo and I loaded starburst 1.9 after formatting system and data, wiping cache and then dalvik cache in that order. I find though while I was loading all my old apps to the new rom that the battery percentage keeps dropping even when the usb is connected. I'm using the official samsung cable. Does this happen to anybody else? Thanks!

I've had this happen but only when I was overclocked and watching videos while connected via USB to my PC. If you're plugged into a wall Jack and this is happening there's probably something wrong. Also make sure you're using the adapter that came with your phone as different phones have different voltage/amperage and that can cause them to kill the battery. I've had to tell this to friends and even had one permanently damage their battery where it wouldn't take a charge because he was using an old charger.
USB connected to your PC just can't give enough juice for high end phones. That's why they charge slower than when plugged directly into the wall.
Thanks for the heads up, I normally work with the screen always on when connected to usb, but it appears to be charging normally now that it's attached straight to the wall. Still it's sad to see I can't overclock easily while on the PC
With many phones you can use up power faster than it can charge. Doing stuff like tethering over WiFi with both WiFi and Cellular radios running is a common scenario, but you can do it other ways too. If the phones charge too fast, they can overheat too, and they could have circuitry to disable charging in an attempt to reduce the temperature.

Yup. Running wifi tether with the screen on with an overclocked kernel is another scenario where this phone can't get enough juice from the USB port

Battery/Charging Issues

So then,
Recently I have had a lot of issues with my nexus. There has been on going issues related to the battery in terms of it saying its charging when its not, and not charging when it is.
yesterday the phone totally died, which wasn't ideal so I contacted Samsung and they said they need to send it away.
Now luckily I do have a extended battery for my phone which I have managed to get it working off and get it to charge which points at the old battery dying and needing to be replaced.
Issues which remain is the phone does not say its charging yet the battery is being charged. Is it possible to delete the System battery apk and re-install it and does anyone have a link to the apk. Or is it possible to re-calibrate battery settings somehow?
The phone also will not connect to the computer via any cable.
It seems as though the phone is being charged and the power is going through the phone, but there is no recognition in the USB bay of any kind, weather connected to a charger or a computer.
things done so far to solve issue:
Full wipe
Reverted to stock
Reverted back to different ROM's
Changed Kernel's
Ordered a New standard battery
Ordered a battery charger (not phone charging dock)
Wiggled the usb , changed usb cable's and chargers.
Fixed permissions
Delete battery stats
Full delvik cache wipe
This is becoming to be a serious problem with a otherwise amazing phone.
Any help would be fantastic.
Thanks,
J
I'm also having the same issue for a week or so. The phone says it's charging but it's not connected to any charger.
Lots of people are reporting the same problem. It's a hardware issue. You need to change the usb charging assembly.

Thanks for the heads up man , might give the USB port a little clean. Pain in the ass though pretty poor from Sammy and Google on that one :/

[Q] GSM Galaxy Nexus not charging

Hi Guys,
Before I start, I have read many threads (I think all) relating to this problem and I have googled, googled and googled.
My Device:
GSM Galaxy Nexus
Problem:
It won't charge. No matter if turned on or off. The battery stays always at 0% and when taking a look at *#*#4636#*#* it says "charging".
What I have tried:
- Bought three different batteries.
- Tried two different cables, incl. the OEM one.
- Tried two different wall chargers.
- Replaced the Micro USB port.
- Wiped, reset etc. the phone.
- Tried different ROMs and Kernels. (Yes, I am desperate).
Any advice what the problem might be?
Thanks in advance!
could be the pins not making proper contract with the battery

They look all the same. Not bent, not damaged, not dirty.
hmmm that is really all I can think of..
The fact that it says charging leads me to believe it isn't the port (like most people experience)

I have plugged my phone into my computer. It says "not charging" now. This message appears after a few minutes when I turn it on. Same happens when I plug it into the wall.
Now it's getting really strange. I didn't observe this behavior before.
Before I changed the Micro USB port, the message was >always< "not charging".
Now, after the change, it says for 2 minutes "charging" and then it changes to "not charging".
Did you replace the whole USB board as well, or just the port? It sounds like the USB board is bad.

Hi lowandbehold,
No, I replaced the whole board if we mean the same. I can't post links at this time because I am a new member of XDA, but you can search for "Dock Connector Charging Port with Flex Cable For Samsung Galaxy Nexus i9250" on eBay.
UPDATE: Plugged it back into the wall. It says "charging AC" now and does NOT change to "not charging". Funnily enough, the voltage keeps dropping. From 2040 mV to 1961 mV in two minutes.
i'd say replace the device.
Unfortunately I'm having the exact same problem. I just replaced charging port literally just now and it still won't charge. It says "Charging" but it's not charging. In the Settings it says discharging.
Could it be the battery? I'm thinking of buying a new one and seeing if that works.

Has anyone found a solution to this yet? with mine it charged fine in the beginning, and then it would only charge to about 86%, and then 84%...then 80%...currently it will only charge to 14%. I can leave it plugged in for 48 hours and it says it is charging but will not go past 14%. it takes a few hours for it to charge from 0% to 14%, but then dies within 30 minutes of EXTREMELY LIGHT use.
I've tried two different batteries which both yield the same results. I have en external battery charger and can charge the battery to full (according to the light on the charger) and place it in the phone and the phone will tell me it is at 14% or 8% or something like that (which makes me believe it has nothing to do with the usb port).
I have explored everything I could think of on the software side. The problem started on Ice Cream Sandwhich, it didn't stop when it was updated to Jelly Bean, I recently rooted it and have tried a few different roms including stock roms and CM10. I tried battery calibration apps.
So far nothing has made a difference. Any Ideas?
Nope no solution has been found. I'm just selling the device (and telling them the problem, so far I'm selling it for $275 and people want it) and I'm going to buy an SIII or a One X
well, this really sucks...it seems that a few unlucky people (like me) have this charing issue...
I too changed my USB flex cable thinking that this was the cause, but nothing changed
the battery icon says charging, but the system says discharging
what a major p*** off, cuz I'm fed up of changing batteries all the time, I have 5 batteries
I hope that someone will be able to figure this one out, cuz its a real brain buster
Any update on this? My phone bought in July is also just started giving this problem. When it is on it simply will not charge. All these months I was using another charger with no issues. I have tried the following:
1. Using the stock charger
2. Bending upwards the male connector in the USB socket.
3. Removing the battery overnight
Nothing seems to work. When off, the phone seems to charge somewhat and charging icon comes on. But charging when off for about 5 hours resulted in battery showing about 50% (from 13%) but it drains very quickly. Sometimes when charging for 30 minutes (when off) and switching it on it shows 100% battery, but then still discharges very quickly. Sometimes it shows very low battery.
Also my notification LED is glowing red since about a month, even when phone is switched off. If I remove the battery and connect the charger, the LED starts glowing red - blinking, so it seems the USB port is providing power as sometimes the battery does show 50% and seems to last a bit from there.
What are my options here? I am on the latest JB OTA update which came around 14/15 Nov. In India, I will get no service from Samsung for the Nexus.
I am going to try a factory reset first and then next see if I can get another battery. And maybe I should return / cancel the Nexus 4 I ordered?
Maybe try wiping battery stats in recovery? I was having similar issues today with "not charging". I was plugged in to the wall with nothing, so I plugged into the computer... ADB enabled and device was connected as a media device. I booted recovery and wiped dalvick and battery stats, rebooted and now it is charging via usb and AC. Don't know what happened, but it worked for me. Hope it helps!
Thanks for the response. Well, I just tried draining out the battery (it took almost 2 days lol) till it would show shutdown warning soon after booting up and then removed the battery and held down the power button. I then charged it in 'off' mode for a few hours, I think overnight. I used the actual Nexus charger instead of the generic one I was using all this while. When I turned it on, there was about 40% charge showing.
There was another JB update which I managed to complete (leaving it on the charger). The phone seemed to work fine, but did not show a charging state, but suddenly the next day on its own when I just plugged in the charger, it showed the 'bolt' charging icon and since then it has been working perfectly.
Simply no clue as to how and why it started working fine. Probably the previous 14 Nov update had some bug which was resolved in the latest update or the latest update reset the battery stats or whatever.
I am more worried about my upcoming Nexus 4 which has a non-removable battery as to what I would do if something like this happens.

I can 100% guarantee you that wiping battery stats had nothing to do with it.

Phone discharging while charging

Has anyone had this problem before?
My phone says its charging but it discharges (sometimes stays at the same level and sometimes charges VERY slowly). I let it sit on the charger without playing with it and sometimes I have to let it charge while turned off. I have tried many different chargers/usb cables but cannot find a solution.
I have tried wiping the phone twice + I have used an ipad charging block some of the time (higher voltage and amperage I believe).
It works for a little while after a wipe but the problem always comes back. I am running the latest Task 650 rom with stock kernel...
Any suggestions? My last resort is to return it to stock and try getting a warranty exchange.
I have this problem charging in the car on a really long cheap USB cable. Are you using the stock battery and stock charger / cable?

Have you tried using BetterBatteryStats to see what's draining your battery so much? If nothing seems odd or over the top. It could be a hardware problem (battery, usb, etc).

Well my battery is draining at the normal rate but it is not charging at the normal rate (most of the time it doesn't charge at all)
I have tried the stock usb cable and charging block, I also utilize the stock battery.

Try updating, if it doesn't work, try stock. if it still doesn't work, send it for warranty.
Try another cable or reverting back to stock. I've got 4 different Galaxy S variant phones and some of the provided cords have just given up the ghost and wouldn't charge quickly anymore. Some will work with another another and some won't. Revert to out of the box stock and see if that helps.
Mine was doing similar deal. I did the *#*#4636#*#* went to battery and found out when I plugged in stock charger and cable it said usb charging instead of ac charging. When I plugged in htc charger went right to ac charging. So I tried using a different cable with stock charger and it went ac charger and seam to fix the problem. In fact if I plugged in just the stock cable not hooked to computer or charger it would switch to usb when there was no power going thru it. Hope this helps.

[Q] Battery Will Not Charge or Isn't Recognized by PC

Has anyone else come across this issue?
~I had my phone on charge last night and when I woke after charging for about 9 hours I saw that the battery had not charged. When I tried my car charger it also failed to charge. I tried two more ways to charge with no luck and then plugged it into PC and it won't recognize it. I am on X9 with Perseus Kernel. I went ahead and flashed the new updated rom and also flashed Perseus again, both twice with no luck. Does anyone on here have any suggestions? My battery is dead and now Odin is not an option.
~I Wiped Data, Factory Reset (CWM) Wiped System (Format System) Flashed Rom, Wiped Cache/Dalvik, Booted, Waited 12 minutes, Rebooted, and reset battery stats just in case you are wondering.
Thanks in advance!

Yes, that was the first thing that I tried!
Did you try executing it?
I saw in another thread that the op there said it was apparently a common problem among Note 2's. My suggestion is take it back to where you bought it and report the problem.
I just went through this last week. It's a huge hassle but I just kept trying different chargers and cords and wiggling them to try to get a connection. Eventually it connected. I then had to get back to stock and called att for a warranty replacement.

What Rom are you on?
I switched roms and that exact problem has never happened again.
I think the port itself is faulty. Me and my partners note does the same thing. It will fail to charge sometimes, go from charging to not, etc. If you wiggle the usb cable it helps sometimes (or hurts it)...but you should never have to do that.
Def a problem.

do you use the phone while it is plugged in a lot in the past. hitting the cable and spot where the connection is made on the phone could damage the connection on the inside of the phone. i have seen that as a common killer of laptops, folks use them while plugged in and accidentally hit the end connection at the spot where it connects to the device. i would try to have the carrier service center fix it for you under warranty.

I had a problem similar and it was apparently caused by the male end of the charging cable getting wet or a buy of moisture in it. It fried the female end on my phone. I had to replace the port on my phone today at a phone repair shop. Its possible thst the same happened tobyou guys without you evem knowing it. Its more common then people think as it doesn't just short circuit your phone
Sometimes it starts to take longer to charge and sometimes it just stops altogether. But dependong on hownclever your service provider is they may or may not catch that. It cost me $65 to get it done. Whorth it to me to avoid the hassle
