Has anyone else come across this issue?
~I had my phone on charge last night and when I woke after charging for about 9 hours I saw that the battery had not charged. When I tried my car charger it also failed to charge. I tried two more ways to charge with no luck and then plugged it into PC and it won't recognize it. I am on X9 with Perseus Kernel. I went ahead and flashed the new updated rom and also flashed Perseus again, both twice with no luck. Does anyone on here have any suggestions? My battery is dead and now Odin is not an option.
~I Wiped Data, Factory Reset (CWM) Wiped System (Format System) Flashed Rom, Wiped Cache/Dalvik, Booted, Waited 12 minutes, Rebooted, and reset battery stats just in case you are wondering.
Thanks in advance!

Yes, that was the first thing that I tried!
Did you try executing it?
I saw in another thread that the op there said it was apparently a common problem among Note 2's. My suggestion is take it back to where you bought it and report the problem.
I just went through this last week. It's a huge hassle but I just kept trying different chargers and cords and wiggling them to try to get a connection. Eventually it connected. I then had to get back to stock and called att for a warranty replacement.

What Rom are you on?
I switched roms and that exact problem has never happened again.
I think the port itself is faulty. Me and my partners note does the same thing. It will fail to charge sometimes, go from charging to not, etc. If you wiggle the usb cable it helps sometimes (or hurts it)...but you should never have to do that.
Def a problem.

do you use the phone while it is plugged in a lot in the past. hitting the cable and spot where the connection is made on the phone could damage the connection on the inside of the phone. i have seen that as a common killer of laptops, folks use them while plugged in and accidentally hit the end connection at the spot where it connects to the device. i would try to have the carrier service center fix it for you under warranty.

Agreed, this smells hardware related and I've seen it first hand with both the note and note 2. I'd be taking it back to where I bought it.

I had a problem similar and it was apparently caused by the male end of the charging cable getting wet or a buy of moisture in it. It fried the female end on my phone. I had to replace the port on my phone today at a phone repair shop. Its possible thst the same happened tobyou guys without you evem knowing it. Its more common then people think as it doesn't just short circuit your phone
Sometimes it starts to take longer to charge and sometimes it just stops altogether. But dependong on hownclever your service provider is they may or may not catch that. It cost me $65 to get it done. Whorth it to me to avoid the hassle

Just got my phone yesterday. Running Calk's 2.7 and ICS theme, set dpi to 160, looks and runs awesome. However, it always thinks it's either charging or plugged into USB. the red LED never wants to turn off. how can I remedy this problem?
Possibly try turning it off, booting to recovery, clearing cache/dalvik-cache, and then clear battery stats
Was it like this prior to rooting and custom rom?
Apk, that didn't do it.
yes, it did the same thing beforehand. Except takng out the battery solved the problem once.
Get it exchanged ASAP. This is a defect with the USB port. Has NOTHING to do with software. I was outside of my 14 day return and Sprint made me send it to Samsung to get fixed. $7 jig and two weeks later it was fixed.
With my tech background I would say check the charging port. Could be a metal shaving or *gasp* corrosion!

Shouldn't matter. The phone has a one year warranty from Samsung. I bought my wife an Epic on craigslist last year and had it repaired under warranty.

Yup. I had the same problem. I think it is related to the USB port (from reading a few SGS2 threads). I took it to the Sprint Store and they said the USB port looks good. They reset it and it still acted that way. However, 2 hours later the problem is gone. They ordered me a replacement so I'm still going to take it because who knows why the problem starts. I did have Calk's rom and also have the battering monitoring widget by 3C and I had cleared the battery stats multiple times prior to the symptoms starting. Just proving as many clues as possible...
What do you mean by reset?
Funny I see you have this problem (not really funny) because I noticed the same thing last night and just figured it was Rom related.
It sucks... can you give more details about the reset process? Soft reset?

I had the same problem.
The red light was on all the time, only went out when I got a text. If I pulled the battery the phone would show like it was charging as soon as I put it back in. It would show the battery animation on the screen not plugged in.
After a battery pull the phone would also not boot using the power button, had to boot to recovery and boot from there.
Took it to sprint, they gave me a new battery. Solved the problem only until phone was plugged in to charge. Then started all over again.
Turned out to be a problem with the USB port and they ordered me a replacement.
got it fixed! looks like the pcb on the port was sitting too close to the lower edge of the phone. pushed it up gently and now it seems to be working. thanks for the direction, nivron.
my other concern is that battery life sucks ass. drains really quick (at the rate of ~6%/hr!). again, running calk 2.7 + ics theme. also, taking out the battery seems to reduce the life 20%. what's the deal...
Hmm, now the USB cable needs to be at a certain angle for the phone to charge. Is there any way a Sprint store could furnish a replacement for me?
My phone stopped charging from its regular wall charger this morning. Now when I plug it in it doesn't do anything. If I turn it off and plug it in the battery icon with the charging icon shows up then shows it charging, then it shows the charging icon again and the same thing keeps happening until the battery just dies. The only way I can get it to charge is if I plug it into usb port on my computer. Is there any solution?

I just started experiencing the same thing. Occasionally I can get it to charge, but usually it just sits there and dies. I haven't been able to test the pc charging, as I'm currently on vacation. This is pretty random, considering I've had the phone since launch day (Verizon), and have dropped it, etc in the past with no problems; then randomly it won't charge.
Had strange problems like this. Try bending the little tab in the charging port on your phone (carefully) away from the side. I haven't had a problem since.

I've had similar issues.
Some background: It started just after I flashed the AUG 29 AOKP Jellybean nightly. It might just be a co-incidence but I saw a couple of people on rootzwiki who had a similar issue.
I wasn't charging at all then. Only when I was turned off. I was having driver issues with computers that had connected to the phone before.
I have since reset it back to stock JB and the charging from the charger seems to have been fixed. Instead my pogo pin charging is a bit iffy. It works sometimes but not always.........
Well, I spoke too soon! NOT CHARGING from the wall again. When phone is shutdown, it charges. In Android, it doesn't.
Could you tell us what you have done so far? Any solutions that you tried but didn't work?
Have you tried:
-different battery?
-using different cable or the charger?
-straightening the metal part of the port?
-cleaning the port with alcohol?
These are the known solutions for most of the Gnex port problem. If you haven't tried already, please do so. If you're still having problem with it, tell us.
Solution
This is not a randome issue... Happened to me too only ONCE and never again
Solution
Let the phone battery die out completely and then charge a bit and boot into CWM recovery. Reset battery stats and you are good to go.:good: Or you can even try reseting battery stats without complete discharge. I havent tried the later since had this problem only once. I'm not a developer but my theory is that there is some embeded software that determines power supply and due to some reason it got corrupted.
Hit THANKS if I helped
Thank you everyone for your help. Really appreciate it. So I know I didn't get it wet. And I changed chargers and batteries to no avail. Then I tried what the last post said, to wipe battery stats. I did that and restarted. Did it again because first time didn't do anything. Now its charging fine. Great relief

I'm experiencing this problem now. But I think it's because I was messing around with 'Fast Charge' settings in my AOKP Milestone 1 ROM controls without really knowing what any of it meant. I'll try to wipe battery stats and do a few reboots. I'll let you guys know.

Same problem for me now too! =\ I'm using cyanogenmod though. I reset battery stats, formatted and factory reset the thing and nothing. Also tried a few different cables. It's also no longer being recognized when connected to PC.
EDIT: Looks like the USB connector on the device was slightly off center. Bent it up a bit and it seems to be working as normal now.

Alright, I'll try to be as brief but detailed as I can.
I just got my note II 3 days ago. I used what little charge it had out of the box until it died, and plugged it into my computer to charge it overnight.
I woke up and it was fully charged. I used all of the battery and plugged it in to charge the next night as well. only this time, I woke up to find it hadn't charged a bit.
I tried to plug it in to a different charger, and I saw no charging icon. I rebooted the phone, and I got the charging logo. it only charged for about 10 minutes before it stopped charging. I tried to reboot it again and got the same issue. so I spent a while trying different chargers and cables until it was totally dead.
Now, when I plug it in I get a gray battery icon with a loading circle in the middle, and then it goes away. I tried leaving it for several hours like that, but it didn't charge at all.
I read on several sites, including this one I think, that it might be a software issue. I tried flashing to a stock recovery rom with Odin but that didn't do any good.
the weird thing is, I can get into the recovery menu, and let it sit there for hours, so the phone IS receiving power from the charger. it just wont charge!
I took apart the phone to check out the solder on the connector, everything looks perfect. I even sprayed it out with electronics cleaner spray.
I'm not sure what else I can do besides get a new battery, but I mean, this one is brand freakin' new!
What exactly does this battery icon mean? I can't find any info on it or anything.
btw, I still can boot into android, but it instantly dies.
thanks for any help!
I had the same issue about a month after I got my note II. I ended up having to take it back to the sprint store. They ordered a new one for me and I swapped it out once it arrived. It didn't cost a thing and I had a backup phone to use while my phone was dead. Check with your local store and see what they can do for you.
I bought my phone from ebay (new) so I dont think that will work : (
some updated info though, I charged the batter using a friends note 2, and it charged fine. I stuck it in my note 2 and plugged in the charger.
it says its charging on my phone. I get the charging symbol and everything, but it just doesn't charge. I'm really starting to think this IS a software issue. maybe I should try a custom rom.
Factory reset could help.

Note that at stock the phone kernel is not written to make actual use of a 2A Usb line. IIRC stock kernel limits to sub 1A.

I have Gummy ROM 4.4.4 installed everything works fine except charging the phone while powered off results in the grey battery icon freeze
About a week ago, I flashed to the Beanstalk 4.2 JB rom. And found that while running the rom, I began suffering from real odd battery patterns.
I had two wall chargers and a USB cable to my computer, when I connected my phone to them, it would say that it was charging, but instead, it'd just drain the battery.
Using my 4.1 AOKP rom simply a few days ago, I never had a problem as weird as this. All my chargers worked on my phone, including the USB.
The only time I could charge my battery properly was to have to phone completely off.
So after a week, a few days ago, I flashed the SlimBean Rom in hopes I'd get a different experience from 4.2.
Now things got really weird. The phone would start repeatedly flashing that it was charging and not charging. Battery would still drain, what's worse is after calibration yesterday, I tried charging my phone while it was off. The battery during this charging process, said it was full. So I turned on the phone, and found my battery at 15%.
But this weird behavior isn't all the time, just now I plugged in my phone while on, using my wall charger. And right now it's acting fine. The question is, when and why is it doing something weird?
I'm not sure why this is happening. Everything was fine until 4.2 a week and a half ago, now my phone is acting like there isn't a consistent way to charge the battery, it's pretty much randomnly taking power and using it while it's connected to a charger.
Does anybody have similar problems with their phone after a flashing? Again, everything was fine when I was using 4.1.

Time for a new battery. Take it out and see if it spins. If it does, your battery is bad. If not, you may have a bad flash or rogue app; try clean flashing your 4.2 ROM and manually installing apps from the play store.

What do you mean by "see if it spins?" Do you mean spin it flat on a table?
Also, I have factory reset and flashed both roms each time. Is that a clean flashing?

yes, spin it on a flat surface. if it spins like a top, its bad. if it doesn't spin, its probably okay.
clean flash (for AOSP) means:
Reboot to recovery
Make a nandroid
Wipe data/Factory Reset
Wipe /cache
Advanced > Wipe /dalvik-cache
Flash ROM
Flash Gapps
Reboot.
I have a new related question:
Is it possible that flashing a rom could damage hardware? Like the battery or something else?
The battery sometimes will not recharge EVEN when the phone's turned off ever since I switched to 4.2. It's become a phone that is insanely unpredictable.
Battery doesn't spin, it's still fairly heavy. I'm a little worried something darker might be effecting my phone now.

Not a ROM issue. I recommend using triangle away to reset the binary counter, then Odin back to stock unrooted fl24 or gb27 and seek warranty replacement.

I am having the same problem with my phone. im running ReVolt JB 4.2.2 6/2/13 ...same weird flashing when connected to charger, battery only charges when its turned all the way off and plugged into a wall charger. Battery is still good doesn't spin...for me its only this rom that gives me trouble.
Everyone's has the 3.0 kernel on 4.2.2 or the 3.4 kernel on 4.2.2?
I've never had any issues on Slim Bean, Liquid Smooth, ChaOS, SuperNexus, Carbon Rom, CM10 WFTN.
On top of that, make sure you're using the original charger and usb cable too because using different types of cables
with the same type of usb port can also be the issue. ( Short, Long, MTP or PTP type for PC's only etc )
Also is your FAST CHARGE ( If supported by the kernel ) on?
Or is your usb cable / plug not connected all the way on both charger and wall port.
It could be a ton of different issues.
My friends wife had a problem when she was using 4.2.2 AOKP.
Turns out her original PLUG was the problem and she was using her husbands Note II plug just to charge the battery but
she still is using the original E4GT usb cable.

The cable shouldn't make a difference in how long it takes to charge unless it's an inferior cable. Note 2 and Epic 4G Touch are both Samsung cables, I can't imagine that they would make the Note's cable inferior to ours
Also, search through these forums and you'll find that the recommended cable for this device, actually is a Blackberry cable.
I had to get a replacement phone because my charging port was fried luckily I had insurance so the replacement phone was free. Initially my charging port was lose and the tech support at sprint tightened it up but it was all down hill from there...just an update to my previous post .... It was a hardware issue not a ROM issue.

My GN2 just randomly started an issue with charging. Sometimes it will charge for about 10 minutes then it will stop. Other times it won't even recognize that I have plugged it in. Other times I will plug it in, the charging LED light will turn on, but the phone won't actually state that it is charging and won't charge regardless. It will not charge while it is turned off either. I have tried 4 different cables and blocks, tried using my computer to charge it but it doesn't recognize it anymore either. I have wiggled it into different positions, cleaned out the port, wiped cache and dalvik, flashed my ROM again, ect. The problem still persists. Do you think it is a faulty/damaged charging port? I have purchased a new one and a going to replace it when it arrives in about a week. Any other ideas in the meantime as to what it might be and how to solve it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
In case it matters: I am using Beanstalk 4.4 from Will03. Been running it for months with zero issues.

In case it matters: I am using Beanstalk 4.4 from Will03. Been running it for months with zero issues.

Sounds like you have a bad port. The ports on these seem to get loose fairly easily. The replacement process is super easy. I did mine in about 10 minutes. If it hadn't been the first time it would have been faster.

Try another charger first. I had similar issue charging up to 20% then found out the charger was bad

In the sentence where op mentions "cables and blocks", "blocks" means charger. OP has gone through pretty much all the reasonable troubleshooting steps. Only thing else is wipe, then Odin the UVALK1 ROM and see if that works.
Doubt it will at this point and with a suspected bad port I wouldn't risk dropping the USB connection in middle of a flash.
