Encryption and Installing Zips - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

Alright I'm pretty sure I know the answer. Factory wipe... But maybe you guys have a idea.
Okay So I have double encryption (SD and Internals) on my phone and I want to install a new Kernel so I can change my MAC. But it won't let me access the SD or internals in recovery...
Any Ideas what I can do?
If I factory wipe I have a nandroid back up but will the SD need reformatting?
Also is their MTP on Encrypted phones? I have been using Wifi Transfer Pro which seems to do the job just kinda pain in the butt to turn it off and on all the time.

What recovery are you using? I believe TWRP supports encrypted drives. Also, the encryption does not interfere with MTP.

CWR can't mount external sd card

Hello everyone. I'm a total noob with this so let's just get that out of the way. I came from an I phone, jail broken and understood that pretty well. This is much more in depth "programming" if you will, so please bare with me. Anyway, I got my phone rooted and wanted to do a full backup with CWM Recovery and when I try to backup to my 32gig external card, it can't find it and I can't manually mount it. Works fine when I boot my phone normally. Any suggestions? Did a backup to the internal memory, but would prefer to have it on the external.
Thank you in advance. I haven't tried to flash any new roms yet, as I'm trying to understand a few of the basics first.

Install twrp or the newest cwm. Most of the root and recovery methods use older recoveries that may not read the hardware correctly.

any suggestion or link that i can download for S3?
I am having good luck with accessing my 32 GB card using the latest touch recovery.
You can download it from the ClockworkMod site and manually flash it, or through an in-app purchase within ROM manager.
Download:

Use goo manager or ROM manager. Goo for twrp, ROM manager for cwm.

[Q] I keep wiping all my stuff

This no sd card thing is still weird to me and I don't understand it.
I also don't understand TWRP lol.
I used 4ext on my last phone and wish that was here for the Gnex.
Should I be wiping all 6 options in TWRP to install a rom?
Being System, Cache, Dalvik, Rotation, Battery, and Factory reset
I can never find my roms or backups and I feel that I'm deleting them.
Someone help me out here.
And I'm sorry for the Gnex noob questions. I'll get used to it soon
I was a boss at dealing with my Evo 3d.

If you're flashing a new ROM, just choose factory reset, it hits cache and data without wiping the sdcard. And the new rom should take care of wiping system as well.

Thank you so much. Are there any other weird things I should know about this phone that would differ it from a HTC device?
Check the stickies in general and q&a. Samersh and MBQ have some real good info for all users

okay so I thought it wasn't wiping my stuff.
But it still is.
I only did a Factory Reset and it wiped my 2 backups of PA and Slim.
Which really really sucks.
It left my music
But my backup is gone.
Backups through TWRP are only stored in TWRP dir. on SD right?

[Q] Cant Restore My Phone

Hello.
I want to restore my friends galaxy s2 (t989), but no matter what I do it will not restore. I tried odin and I tried flashing a different rom through cwm recovery, but everytime i boot it up after restoring it stays the same way. Meaning that all of the app, settings, photos, etc remain on the phone. As if I didnt even try to restore it. I am guessing it is a virus but I dont know how to remove it Another hint that it is a virus, every time i remove or install a new app from the play store, when I reboot the changes are un-done, meaning that the apps that I removed come back, and the apps that I installed are gone. It is almost as if it is stuck on a state and keeps reverting to it after every reboot. Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks
Try doing a factory reset in the phone settings then go into recovery and wipe as if u are about to flash another ROM. Manually put the phone into download mode and try to restore from there

In recovery go to mount and storage section. Then format data, system, and cache. Then factory data reset. This will fix it. The same way you format a sd card and it wipes it clean thats what happens when you format data, system, and cache.

Thank you guys for answering, I tried both methods but neither worked. After some more research I found out what is causing this to happen. Apparently the internal memory of the phone is stuck as read only, I don't know how he did that. While I am searching for a way to make is read and write, I came across this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2025475 but it is for the skyrocket and there was no solution. However, I also came across this http://androidforums.com/incredible-support-troubleshooting/347685-internal-phone-storage-becomes-read-only.html for the HTC Incredible, but to be honest I have no idea what he did and whether or not it will work on this phone. Do you guys have any idea how make the internal memory of his phone read and write instead of read only? Any help is appreciated thank you.

Flash new rom then go back into recovery and format everything and reset. some recoveries have mount system options so maybe find another one. Something is definitely weird going on. Root explorer, Root toolbox, and other apps have option to mount system as rw as well like biglil said

Im bad at explaining stuff so let me try explaining it a different way.
Like I said, I want to change the rom on my friends phone. I have a fair amount of experience in doing this since I also have an s2 running jedi knight 6. As usual, I would reboot into recovery, wipe system/factory reset, wipe cache/dalvik then install rom. This is where it gets weird, after I boot up the phone, it goes back to the way it was, as if I did not wipe anything. I even tried flashing a completely different rom and I even tried restoring it back to stock rom through ODIN nothing happens. Also, the mount toggle in root explorer is only for the root system, not the internel memory of the phone. Thanks for the help though.
Ok use titanium backup. Two options guaranteed to work. Find the wipe all system and data option use that. If that doesn't work find unintegrate system dalvik option and use that. One these should definitely work.

Storage issue...

Hey guys! Its been a while since I've rooted a phone (HTC Inspire 4G) but last night I rooted my S3. Today I was checking storage and it says I have 2.62GB left on my internal SD card. I run the numbers on apps, downloads, etc. and it just doesn't add up to using 9GBs of space. I'm running LiquidSmooth with gapps (which downloaded my previous apps from stock via my account). Can someone help me out with this? Even if I have to completely wipe the storage space to get the room back, I'm fine with that. I just don't like not having space especially when there should be way more since there are no pictures or music on the phone. Thanks everyone and its good to be back flashing!

I'm also running into an issue finding flashable .zips that are in my /download folder in Astro but not found when using CWM. Weird...
*Edit*
Disregard not being to find them... Apparently I have a separate folder labeled /sdcard/0 that I have no idea how it was made... Is there a .exe to full wipe/format my sdcard so I can start with a clean slate and then simply restore my current ROM/Kernel? Factory reset, format system, wiping cache and dalvik cache then restoring backup isn't working.

You know if you posted this in the right forum you might get some help.
It's not hard to realize that if you're asking a question it should probably be in the forum labeled questions and answers. Think before you post.

It is now that I reported it for being in the wrong section and a mod moved it.
Think before you post.
Anyways, the internal SD card is always going to have much less space then as advertised on the phone. My phone is a 16GB and out of the box I think it had like 13 or so.
You can install TWRP from Goo Manager and use that recovery to make a backup, format your internal storage, then restore data from a backup if you really think you're missing space, but honestly you probably arent.
Thank you for noticing that it was in the wrong forum Tekno.... And for getting that fixed. I understand I have less than advertised but before I rooted it, I backed up all the pictures onto my computer. My phone has no pictures or music on it so I'm trying to figure out where 10GBs have gone.
I will look up TWRP and hopefully that will help...

Well if you've already backed up that you may as well just backup your contacts and anything else you may need and start clean. And by that I mean do a full wipe before flashing a ROM and don't restore data after.

Well, I'm a little too late for all of that now. I soft bricked the phone. Using CWM, I managed to erase everything from the sdcard. All files, all folders, everything. Now when the phone boots it hangs at the "Samsung Galaxy S III" screen. I can, however, get into Download Mode and Recovery Mode. Unfortunately for me though, I do not have the stock ROM .tar and cannot download it due to workstation restrictions. I can also get to Recovery Mode but I have absolutely no files on the sdcard at all and I can't figure out a way to force push LiquidSmooth onto the phone. I receive recognition of connection via ODIN but that program only uses .tar/.gz/.img/etc. and I can't put the LiquidSmooth .zip on that way. Hopefully someone can bring me a copy of the Stock ROM in to work tomorrow as I'm on duty and won't be able to leave work for a while (days).
Oh, it's been a while since I've bricked a phone also. Those days I don't miss...
Are there any other options that I may not have exhausted?

Well heres a few things you can try:
1) ADB to push the rom to the phone
2) Use a proxy service to download original firmware (not sure if your workplace would like that though), Heres a link to the stock ATT firmware, not rooted, pure stock from sammobile http://www.hotfile.com/dl/182319352/b8d55a6/I747UCDLK3_I747ATTDLK3_ATT.zip.html
3) Ask to borrow a co-workers phone to download the file
Thanks Tekno. Finally back online...

What it sounded like was he was installing a rom, and ended up doing a fullwipe instead of just clearing the Cache and Dalvik..
Then he used Wugfresh's Toolkit to restore his device.
