Thank u. Im apart of the sensation and vibrant crowd now
I might be the luckiest person ever. I found a T-Mobile Galaxy S3.
Anyways, can I get in trouble for using the phone? Can T-Mobile somehow track the phone and disable it.
Thanks for your answers.
P.S. The phone has no contact store, so I can't really return it to the owner. The only dialed number is a company.
Go to t mobile store and return it. They will use IMEI to find the owner. If the owner report it stolen tmobile will black list the phone and you may not be able to use it anyway.

You're not the luckiest person ever. You're a dishonest person who's trying to keep something that's not theirs. Do what the person above me said and contact T-Mobile.
I'd really like to hear how you "found" it.
Just replace the Sim card and use it. Founder keeper. Loser file insurance claim.

What is wrong with you? Return the damn phone. Don't be a loser, thief, lowlife. Do the right thing. Stealing is stealing. Good grief. Is that how your mom raised you? Sad....

I hope someone steals an expensive item near and dear to you. We clearly understand your lack of morality. Karma is a *****.
The damn entitlement generation on display. Dumb, greedy, lazy, self centered kids. Just what this world needs more of.
I have witnessed this in forum after forum. Thieves that are too stupid to know what they are doing are coming to the Internet begging for us to help them with their heist. Pathetic.
It won't work after black listed so be careful I would try to take it to tmobile store to

I am really surprised at all of the responses from people suggesting yuo should keep the phone or better yet, sell it to them! That is really the worst advice anyone can offer, what the hell are you guys thinking? It's dishonest and kind of sh..tty to suggest that they should keep the phone and hope the owner had insurance... if that's how you live your life, I am hope I don't live nearby you - - Karma my friends - the best thing to do would be to return the phone to any T MOBILE Store - what would you want them to do if it was your phone?
the poor soul who lost his/her galaxy s3 is probably pulling there hair and gouging there eyes out by now... so sad...
If I had found this phone, I would do everything in my power to get it back to its owner. When the owner finally gets reunited with the phone I doubt they would leave you walking empty handed however even if they do at least you know you have done a very amazing deed.
Who knows someday you may lose something and some generous soul will return your lost item to you.
Oh my feelings are hurt by all these strangers judging me online. Why don't you people believe me hehe
I think, I will just keep the phone on for a couple days and hopefully the owner will call
What the hell man, leave the phone in a T-Mobile store.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
so if the phone still has a sim card and it works, just return the phone to tmobile and they will track the number and they could see who it belongs to!
do something great, people will do the same to you.
I agree with everyones (some) responses. I found a iPhone 4S with a pink case. I was able to get ahold of the owner (beautiful girl) and she cried and gave me so many thank yous. She offered $50 but i declined it. If i ever lose my baby (gs3) ...I would hope someone would do the same. Return the phone man..
My insurance was canceled....if I were to lose my phone I'd have to pay full price for a new one. I couldn't afford another Siii.
Return it to Tmo as has been suggested. To do anything less is theft.
If it was my phone, I would activate the mobile security app on the phone and track you down and then the police would arrest you for stealing my phone. But that's just me. By the way, mobile security comes free on most t mobile phones with the correct insurance. I wouldn't risk being labeled as a thief, even if you did somehow "find" it.

That's called insurance fraud what your doing. Technically its a felony.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
I think the guy just asked a question about what would happen. But yes, this is insurance fraud and if you get caught doing this you're slapped with a felony. I'd advise you not to do it.
They would more than likely block the old IMEI anyways since they have it in their database and the old phone becomes a paperweight MP3 player.
TL;DR : The risks are too high and the outcome is too little and more than likely to backfire. Be legit about it.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Straight Answer
Once a device is replaced using insurance or warranty, they will blacklist the IMEI so that it can't be used again on the network in the event that they don't actually receive it.
If a device is reported lost, they blacklist the IMEI immediately and you go about processing your claim.
There is nothing you can do to prevent this, it's automatic, that phone will be blacklisted, no exceptions. If it's found, to whitelist the IMEI again, you have to go through insurance, which will promptly send out a return kit for said device.
You can't ask questions like this on here. This isn't the place for stealing, scamming or anything not legal. This thread will be closed by an administrator

So a couple weeks ago you were on here asking to buy a T989 to replace your Amaze because you wanted a bigger screen, It appears that you decided to buy it new thinking you can just scam the insurance thing and not actually have to pay for it, or get a second one for free. Not saying you are doing this, just that it appears pretty darn shady when seeing this post along with your previous post a couple weeks ago asking to buy one.
As said above, insurance fraud is a felony but honestly go ahead and report it stolen, wait a few days and call TMO and tell them you bought a used phone. Give them all the info on it they ask for, go ahead, or try to sell it. The buyer will find out it was an insurance scam and TMO knows it's connected to you. Who knows you might(not a chance) have a lucky one that didn't get blacklisted. In reality, I will ROFL when the police show up at your door with an arrest warrant, and they will...but go for it, see what happens. It may be multiple serious federal charges. If you bought it online and it was mailed to you via USPS, they will add the charges of Felony Mail Fraud for USPS shipping, and Felony Wire Fraud for ordering it online. If you bought it in the store then you can expect Retail Fraud to be added.
Let us know how that works out for ya.

OK SO I TRIED TO FLASH THIS ROM FROM THIS THREAD http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2115775
IM USING A SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 FROM T-MOBILE
NOW MY PHONE IS TOTALLY DEAD, THE SCREEN WONT TURN ON, THE JIG WONT PUT IT IN DOWNLOAD MODE
AND NOW WHEN I PLUG IT INTO THE COMPUTER IT ASK ME FOR THIS DRIVER " QHSUSB_DLOAD "
PLEASE HELP ME :crying:
Link doesn't work. Sounds like you already know what you did. So you should know its not fixable, by you. Jtag Google it.
Link takes me to i9300, i9500 forum for a ROM. Yep its hard bricked. You flashed and Intl ROM onto this phone. You can send it into Samsung or to mobiletechvideos.com and its 60$ to JTAG it. Versus how much Samsung will charge you.

Don't go through your insurance, your deductible is higher then Jtag will cost, and it's wrong to even go that route, since you did it not T-Mobile or Samsung.

An insurance claim isn't wrong. Insurance covers accidental damage and you pay the deductible for a replacement. Trying to get a warranty replacement for "unexplained failure" would be wrong. I still don't advise an insurance claim though since it costs more than getting jtag repair.

Yea, you need JTAG. And you will be happy.
I did the same thing on mine several months ago. (I have flashed many many ROMS and couldn't believe I had done that.) I sent mine to MobileTechVideos.com. He does magic there. Had it back within 1 week and it was like my screw up never happened. Well worth the cost. You can get a JIG from him too for around $6.
Use mobile tech they are 100% square dealin guys!
I had mine done two weeks ago all new again like nothing' happened.

I wouldn't deal with anyone else

Hockey puck, paper weight, an extremely small tablet, backup camera, VOIP phone on WiFi only, etc etc. I think you may can sell it internationally, may even be able to sell it domestically; just make sure you say it's got a bad esn either way.

because its always encouraged to walk on your two feet. and not to mention hundreds of threads are closed everyday because they ask the same thing. people who are spoonfed tend to make the most mistakes, then come crying and blaming the people for their lack of research/reading. and i know this isnt one of those types of threads where something can brick, but its always good to end bad habits early
and if im not mistaken, isnt it one of XDAs suggestions/rules to search before you post? the search bar is there for a reason
as for the OP, its always suggested when buying phones off craigslist, that you meet up with the seller in the store and check the phones status before payment. Or just use ebay so that you have ebays buyer protection for situations like this. Or use swappa, havent used it myself but ive heard good things Either resell it, donate it to a dev, or use it as a paperweight.
but of course, this was all said in another thread.....

A QA Thread is used to answer questions that have not been asked and also hold threads that have already been answered. What's the point of asking something if it's already been answered more than once?
That's like going to a Meeting, someone asks a question and has it answered so everyone can hear. Then you follow up next and ask the exact same question.
Here you go, searched the forums, first 3 results:

So, how's the selling going
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk 4
Tmobile Galaxy S4's don't have "bad esns" because they don't even use ESNs. That's for cdma phones. Tmobile uses IMEIs. That's for GSM.
Anyway, good luck selling it, I would value that for about 300 tops if in New condition, if noticeable use, 200. But don't you dare go lower. Lol. If you're trying to sell for more than 300, you are only contributing to the rip off you were wronged on. Most people who know what a bad imei is wouldn't be dumb enough to buy it, so you'd be ripping off an unknowledgeable innocent guy.
