I've been getting really frustrated with the service on my LG. Basically what my problem is I work in a warehouse building and I'm constantly switching between 3g and 4g. It's driving me crazy. Now I was wondering if I was to root my phone would there be a way to increase my data speeds? Or just a overall better single?

If you root, unlock, flash the JB radio updates, and flash one of the JB roms it may help. From what I've read people have been getting a better signal after flashing the radio update. I haven't been able to flash the radio update or a JB rom yet, but once I do, I'll have a more reliable opinion on the subject. If you flash the radio update, be sure that you also upgrade to Jelly Bean, the update doesn’t work well with ICS.
Part of the lack of signal problem has to do with Sprint sucking at providing reliable service.
Radio updates?? Will sprint ever release that to everyone? Cuz I'm kinda scared to root. I rooted my htc evo but it seems a lot more difficult these days.

I just flashed the JB radios and stock rooted ROM and I noticed my signals had a dramatic spike in quality. As far as being nervous to root I'd say you're more than capable. Prior to my LGOG I also had the EVO 4G like you. I've rooted both and flashed multiple ROMs. By no means am I a wizard with the gadgets, but I'm fairly tech-savvy. Since you are in these threads I'd bet you and I are pretty similar so if I didn't have much difficulty I am suspecting you won't be very troubled either. Good luck!
Sounds like I need to root this bad boy then. Also thanks for your reply. Could someone post a good link with step by step instructions for rooting. My htc evo I ran that baby into the ground by flashing different Roms. Lol

Hey guys, I've been gone from here for awhile, but when I first go my et4g I rooted it and put AE mod 4.0. Now I can't install the update which I figured might happen, and I would like to be able to update to fix the LOS and still have root. What is the easiest way to do this? I'm not too concerned with keeping AE mod if that is a problem, but I do need to be able to tether, so I do need root.
Just flash the already rooted update in the dev section.

So after that flash is it updated or will I have to receive the update still?
EDIT: Feel real noobish right now but which Kernel is it? The way they have the things listed is kind of tough if you aren't sure exactly what you are looking for. I also just read a thread about different modems. Do I need to choose a new modem file as well?
The latest update is el13.. Look in the dev section, there week be a stock rooted el13 rom and some custom el13 roms. there is also the el13 modem and a modem. All flashable.
You won't get the prompt to update any more.

Thanks for the help, got it flashed hopefully this will be better. Have you noticed if the modem change improved service on your phone? I have XM on my phone and to be honest, I lose the signal so often on my work drive that it really drives me nuts. And at work when I tether my speeds are not nearly as good as they were on ATT. Kinda hoping this helps with some of those things. Any reason to think it would or wouldn't?
once again thank

I am running aerovan's cm 10-20121003 with 2.6.35.14 ae14 kernel and radio 1.09.01.0622 I've got between -83 and -95 dBm signal strength when I check. I ask you guys, who I consider experts compared to me, if there is any reason for me to flash a different radio. If the answer is yes then a suggested radio would be a welcome addition to your answer. Oh and thanks in advance.

Yeah, you can always flash back. It's easy. Rename it, put it on root of sd, reboot into bootloader and let it do its thing. Be sure to rename again and put it somewhere else or delete it once you are done. Otherwise anytime you boot into bootloader it will try to flash again, which some say is bad. If you don't know how to do it, check the stickies.

I'm great at reading stickies. I was just wanting to know what the benefits of flashing a new radio really were. Like I said I'm pulling good service. I was just trying to figure out the benefit vs. potential risks of flashing a radio. It does seem like the risk is relatively low, but I really haven't seen the benefit side of it.

The reason we say try and see is because benefit varies. Some don't notice any. I'm not sure I do. Others see better battery, signal, performance, ect. Nothing about this phone is consistent for everyone. One person swears a rom is flawless and another can't get it to boot. If you think your phone performs well enough I would not bother.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda app-developers app
I did end up updating the radio. I haven't seen any noticeable change. So for me it was pointless from a performance stand point, but from the experience stand point it was worth it. The slight moment of panic when the phone doesn't make it past the splash screen before all of the different advice from what I've read on the forums kick in and I go into recovery and wipe the delvak which I had forgotten and the cache and everything booted up great.

Agreed. It's good to learn. Helps ease your mind about trying things.

What are we waiting on in order to get JB and AOSP?

Seems to me that the devs for lgog want to release a "good" rom (everything working). So that is what we are waiting on.
There is already JB for LGOG but there are reports that people can't send messages.
There's a jb ROM from Houston that Everything works except making calls

Until someone has posted a working rom in our Sprint Development page I would strongly recommend not flashing anything cloned from another OG version. Xbox is working tirelessly under very stressful conditions(St. Louis) to give us a CM version of JB. The biggest hindrance is that are phone is different from the other OG. Actually, all the OG are different from each other from one aspect to another. We all share the same CPU. So booting isn't an issue. But, after that it really is difficult to get each thing to work. The Sprint version uses its own CDMA which is not the same as what they use in Korea. At&t has its own camera, the Japanese version is waterproof(seriously), the Canadian version wishes it was an American.
If you flash any of these roms(unless triple confirmed it is safe) you can really jack stuff up. You need to not only back up your phone but I would back up your partitions.
My strongest recommendation if you are merely a hobby flasher is to wait. I know it has been a tough long road but the finish line is in sight. We will have source for our phone(LS970) in a month. We will have the OTA in a month. If you flash anything Korean be prepared to face the consequences if things don't go well.
So, what are we waiting on? The simple and most honest answer is LG. Send them an email, blast them on twitter, blast Sprint to have them blast LG, call the development department, email multiple sources, write a letter to the Android sites online. Maybe they could write a story about it. If you put their feet to the fire they will have to say something. But, be kind and sane in your approach. The problem of getting our phone updated is not because of lack of development. We have some great guys.

Hi , I'm currently using Lg g2x
and it seems like this phone is a good option for me right now.
i have a few question for the phone.
1. How are the driver and development support for this phone? ( both from samsung and devs)
my g2x is a pain right now because LG did not release enough drivers and we have no fully working ICS/JB and developments are dying....
2. Are there screen burn in problems?? (This was the major reason why I tried to avoid AMOLED phones)
3. what is your general opinion?
Thank you
This phone and the dev support kicks ass. I had no qualms about keeping this through the S3 cycle, and every time I think I want to upgrade, I'm reminded that this phone does everything I want it to do.

I'm in Canada as well(however with Wind Mobile) and so far the stock koodo or Telus radio suits the best(most reliable, no data drops, etc). You may try different radios from the thread below to see if any of those works better for you with your provider. The stock koodo is there too if you wanna go back to that.
Radios in general affect the mobile signal, data connection and wifi signal. On a side note, the Telus Jellybean release is just around the corner for our device (April), we will see how is the bundled radio performs once it drops.

Flashing a custom rom(unless stated otherwise by the rom developer) won't touch your radio. So in theory your signal and other radio characteristics will remain the same. However based on the feedback in the radio thread some radio performs better for some user depending on their location(most of them are US based Tmobile customer). So it's about trial and error, try them and see if you have better results with different ones (signal, ping, download/upload, voice quality, battery life).
For Wind mobile here in my location (Ottawa) the koodo radio is the champ.

Hi everyone, I'm back with more questions. But first let me give a huge thanks to all that have helped me with other things. You guys helped me go from some who was terrified of the though of rooting and flashing to someone who not only rooted but has tried a few different Roms. That's huge for me as I am not a technically minded person. Thanks everyone! I hope I can help someone someday as much as in have been helped here.
Now for my question.
Since I have flashes my first custom ROM I have been getting horrible data speeds on 3g and 4g. I'm talking it takes me back to the AOL dial up days kind of slow.
I figured that I needed to update my prl/profile so I asked how to, and i did that. But no change in data speeds.
So here I am scratching my head as what to do next. Any suggestions?

We need more info. What ROM are you currently on? Have you tried updating the APN file? If you flash the latest Carbon you will have the best speeds available for AOSP based ROMs. If you flash nexOgen or Optimus you will be on Stock based Roms that have slightly better data speeds. Or you LGNPST back to the orginal factory set up and see if that makes a difference.
Lol I forgot to include the info.
I'm running the latest carbon nightly 4.3
Honestly I haven't a clue what a apn file is so I don't believe I have updated it. How would I go about doing that?
