Seriously, is one of the numerous threads already in existence, some of which are found in the stickys not enough. Pick a guide, read it, re read it then attempt it, re read if it fails.
And before anyone jumps on my back, remember Rule 1. root my arc s 2.3.4

Although why you would want to root and not do anything else is a mystery.
Did you mean to say what can you do besides root? In that case, we would need to know what model of phone you have in order to polnt you in the right direction.

I've used Flashtool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351299
And used the specific menu command to use zergRush.
Remember you need to enable USB debugging in Aplications>Development
Didn't I already answer this? Use superoneclick its easy. Rooting is easy. But why just root when you can do so much more

Even I had the same questions..
I'm on an R800i ..
Android: 2.3.4
Build: 4.0.2.A.0.62
I just got the phone this week, so I'll be happy with the stock rom for a few months..
All I wanna do is root it, so I can remove the bloatware..
(If possible, without having to unlock the bootloader for now)
My last phone was the LG P500 .. and all I needed to root that was run the gingerbreak apk.
Any chance of that working here?
Also, there is a sticky in the dev section for how to root, but that now redirects to a page [WIP] ClockworkMod Recovery - FreeXperia page..
So really confused..
Do I install CWM and then flash that file for rooting?
(is it possible to install cwm without rooting?)
Or do I root it using some other method, and then flash CWM using what that thread says?
Uber confused..
it is not possible to root Rombuild .62 you need to downgrade your rom to.40
dang..
and for downgrading I'd have to use flashtool, right?
wouldn't that format the phone as well?

No. And there are no free methods to unlock the R800x, thanks to Verizon. But if you click the link in my Signature on Aledandrissimo's name, it will take you to his site. You can have him do it for $24.00. He's very safe and reliable. All the details are there.

That link is for the xplays with imei codes. The cdma version has a meid. So u can't unlock it that way. There is no way to unlock the cdma xplay for free

My arc shows up as not being unlockable. Now I know how to get the sim unlocked and know how to go about unlocking it if it were possible. My question though is whether there a way of unlocking it??
I have read numerous posts and think I'm on to a loser...!

You have to unlock your bootloader with the testpoint method. You don't need to unlock the sim.

Sorry, typing error, when I check the phone for bootload unlock it says I can't. Im not able to get into fast boot.

With the test point method as he said you can unlock your bootloader. This is a risky process to do yourself. There are also people that will do it for you for like $19usd
Check the general forum

Yes it works with that version. You don't need to back anything up prior to rooting as it won't wipe anything.
Thanks for the reply spectre51 im glad I dont need 2 wipe my phone

It would just stop at step 7, it wouldn't do anything after that.

The 'bootloader unlock allowed: yes' doesnt always ahow up. It depends on the android version and some other things. Anyway, if it shows no value for it or it even doesnt show up at all, it means you cannot unlock you BL, not at least by IMEI code method. It is possible through a paid method by alejandrissimo, a well known and trusted member of xda. Just take a look on unlock-bootloader.com (maybe its free now, I dont know)
For unrooting, you should try flashtool (zerg-rush), or the unroot tool, maybe they work on r800at

Try the Zerg rush method in the develpers forum. look for it. just type Zerg Rush on the search bar... when i had my play with stuck, that was the way I got it rooted...
hi friends,
i used the "DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit [v4] (zergRush Exploit)" to root my xperia play successfully.
i want to know that if the bootloader also be unlocked? how to check?
try the method in the Sony Unlock Bootloader Web site, there you can find how to know if it's and if you can unlock it..
