[Q] USB brisk - no fastoboot, no ADB, no storage - HTC One X

Hi I have an HTC ONE S and I just didn't know where to post for help, so I figured the ONE X forum may be a good place to start. I cannot seem to connect my phone via USB to any one's computer. It does not even ask me for the "storage or charge" option when I connect a usb cable. All it does is go directly into charge mode.
In bootloader I cannot even get it to show "Fastboot USB" when I connect a cable so using ADB isn't an option either. Yesterday the phone actually worked after about 2 months of not working and then when I tried reconnecting it, it stopped working again and remains USB-less as of now.
I think it important to note that the options under "Storage" in the setting menu show a "Mount SD card" but it's all grey and cannot be selected. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have CyanogenMod 10.1 (latest build March 12th) and my SD card is built-in.

[Q] Issue with USB Mass Storage

Last night I was getting ready to do my first root. Was watching the syndicate video, following along.
One thing I noticed last night, is when I plugged the phone in for mass storage, to copy the files to the sd card, I kept getting these two errors.
First, when installing the drivers after plugging the phone in, I was getting this cdc failed. You can see it in this picture...
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a183/lardo5150/cdcabstract.jpg
I also kept getting this "scan to fix" pop up for the M drive (my phone).
When I turned on USB debugging on the phone and plugged it in, it seemed fine, except I could not access the M drive on my computer, I would get this error...
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a183/lardo5150/insertdisk.jpg
I did some search and decided to try what another user tried, I formatted the sd card.
I then plugged the phone back in, and did not receive the "scan to fix" errors anymore and could access the SD card with no issues, but I could not access it still while in debugging mode.
Is this by design?
Samsung drivers are installed. Got them straight from the samsung site.
No yiu should be able to play with your sd card wgile in debugging
Did you turn on mass storage after usb debugging?

I couldn't access the mass storage in USB debugging for a little while. It turned out my drivers got slightly corrupted. I could do everything else but that. Went into Control Panel with USB Debugging on and found the driver listed as samsung android in USB in Device Manager and hit update driver and let it get it from Windows Update.

I will try that this afternoon.
How about that cdc? Any reason why that is failing?
Same thing.
Says the latest driver is installed.
It never gives me the option of choosing charging, mass storage, tethering like it does when debugging is off.
Any ideas?
Ok, so I found this some other forums.
Seems stupid, but I had no clue.
With my phone, with debugging off, when you connect the USB, it asks you what you want to do.
With debugging turned on, it does not, you have to tell it. Below is what I found....I feel dumb..
"Okay, so if you are freaking out, or can't figure out why your new Epic isn't being recognized by your computer, calm down. Some of you are probably already searching for drivers. Ya I already went through that freak out when I got my Vibrant. Okay, to mount your phone, and have your computer recognize the internal/external memory, do this:
Connect your phone to your computer via USB. Give it a few seconds.
Next, PULL DOWN your notification bar.
Next, tap your finger on "USB CONNECTED"
You then get a message asking if you would like to mount. Tap "mount" confirming you would like to do so.
Enjoy, your computer should now recognize the internal/external memory."

I had the same issue with my epic, try using a different usb cable, the one for the motorola photon resolved all the issues I had with connecting to the computer, I found out thru experience that the stock cable when using windows 7 kept giving me the same error..

Also, I've had success with rebooting both the phone but especially rebooting the computer and plugging the phone back in. Try a different USB port, some folks have 2 SLOW USB ports for mouse and keyboard (mine are in the back lower left...the fast ones are on the right and in front). Most folks have better luck trying rear USB ports (although I don't know why). First, try the computer reboot though...

Cannot install RUU from htc dev

So I'm trying to unlock the bootloader so I can install some nice roms.
How ever when I try to install the update RUU HTC advices me to install nothing happens.
I get to "Connect your phone to the computer using the USB cable that came with your phone. Wait a moment for your computer to identify your phone, this may take a few minutes.
If your computer cannot find your phone, you may need to install HTC Sync. You can download HTC Sync here.
"
How ever the phone never gets recognized so running the RUU causes it to load and then close before giving me any options.
Hboot version is 0.90.0000 software version is 2.13.351.1
I've looked all over XDA and google for answers and couldn't find anything that worked.
Is there any other way to flash the RUU ? Fastboot maybe? ( I tried just running the RUU whilst in fastboot usb and it RUU still loads and then closes)
Oh yeah, trying to do all this on Win7 x64
*edit* Running the phone in usb storage mode allowed it to run, how ever thus far it does not seem to be working. Got an error message saying a directory was full. It's now" Veryifing information on your pda phone" been doing it a while though.
First:
Go into Settings, then choose Connect to PC.
Make sure "Ask Me" has a checkmark on it.
Second:
In the settings choose Applications, then Development and make sure USB debugging is checked off also.
When you connect the USB cable to the computer now do you get a message on your phone?
You should have three chooses for USB type; charge only, HTC Synch and Disk Drive.
If you are not getting this option then your computer is not connecting to the phone via USB. Either bad usb cable, bad usb port, or something wrong with the phone.
EDIT
Sorry just saw your edit. disregard my comment.

I get all these options, I can access the disk drive if I choose that option, if I choose sync that works etc.
Only this RUU that gives me problems
*EDIT* WOOO! found a work around, run RUU with storage mode on, then switch back to charge only after accepting disclaimer.
*Edit again* and of course, just as things seem to be going well the installer crashes, now the phone is stuck on some silver HTC logo.
It crashes as soon as it tells the phone to reboot to bootloader.
Bumping this instead of making a new thread.
Still having this issue if anyone can help.

go into device manager and uninstall the samsung usb device under Usb devices...restrart, download the usb driver from samsung website or just plug in ur phone and wait for driver to reinstall automatically. should work after that. happen to me a couple of times
You checked "yes this is a question"
Guess where it belongs?
Moved to Q&A
FNM
Thanks for the suggestions.
I looked in device manager under usb. And there was no samsung device. Connected to a new computer and i didnt install drivers. I decided to just factory reset and since i did t delete or remove the files that put android recovery back in place of CWM i figured it would go back to day 1. But i was still rooted after it was reset.
Ill try Mass storage mode another day
Thanks again

[Q] Connecting EVo 4g to the computer

Im trying to root my Evo 4g but it wont connect to the computer. When i plug it in it starts charging but i cant find it on 'my computer'. I made sure it was set to disc drive. i have tried different cords and ever different phones with the same cord. the other phone will connect just fine.. i have tried downloading several different drivers but none work. i tried doing a factory reset thinking it was a software problem on the phone. my last theory is that the port on the phone is bad. but the phone still charges so im not 100% sure about that. any ideas on what else i can do to fix this problem?
Go into Menu - Settings - Applications - Development. Make sure USB debugging is checked.

Also, install HTC Sync, it's on your SD Card by default, and then uninstall it, so the drivers for the Evo are on your computer
Has your phone been rooted and flashed to another rom?
Sometimes the usb port for your phone is broken. Mine is so I have to put the sd card directly into the computer using a adapter

Have you made sure your phone is not waiting for a verification that you want to turn USB storage on? I turn it on and then forget to hit "OK" on the popup verification at least once a day.

ADB recognizes device only in recovery

Hey guys,
I have the following problem: ADB does recognize my HOX, all drivers are installed etc. However, it only recognizes it if the HOX is turned off or in recovery mode. If the HOX is booted into CM10.1 Staging 5 "adb devices" shows nothing. ADB Debugging is enabled of course.
I already tried this but it didnt't help. Everything else I found via google didn't help also...
I hope that you can help me with this issue. Thank you in advance,
Monsterkater
Switch to MTP instead of using usb mass storage.
Alternatively you can stay with UMS and use an app called adb wireless for your usb debugging needs.

Somehow my HOX doesn't even show the option for MTP/PTP ...
Hook USB > Settings > Storage > press menu button
Nothing appears?
Ah, thank you. I didn't know that you can access that menu this way.
Now it works, thank you very much!
No problem

Thanks for this, I was looking for a solution the last two hours.
