Hope someone can give me a pointer.
I have a (UK) Galaxy Nexus, currently with CM10 on it and TWRP recovery. Every time I try and install any custom kernel, it fails to boot. The same happened when I was on BlackBean and ParanoidAndroid roms, and I've tried Franco and PopcornKernel, in various combinations.
Regardless of what combo I've tried, I normally just get stuck on the Google splash screen. Not sure what I'm doing wrong here, anyone have any ideas?
If you're running a kernel designed for 4.2.2 it will not run on cm10 (4.1.2). You need a kernel built for android 4.1 to run that ROM.

Hello, I am wondering if anyone has a kernel for the 1747, mainly one that allows custom boot animation for Bell's 4.1.1 touchwiz JB?
I've tried the KT747 kernel, but couldn't get the boot animation to work.
Then, I've tried imoseyon's lean kernel. While it was simple and had the features that I wanted, including the enabling of custom boot animations, the splash screen samsung logo turned pink. While I didn't mind the pink on the samsung logo, this however turns the custom splash screen I photoshop'd pink as well. Is there an alternative to this? Such as a way to work around it or fix it?
Specifically, I'm just looking for a simplistic kernel for the 1747 Samsung Galaxy S3 running on touchwiz JB 4.1.1, that allows a custom boot animation, (and of course, additional options are a plus).
While both kernels worked well, they were not right for me. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

Ahh, it worked. Thanks a bunch.
I've seen some videos of somebody using Siyah Kernel to dual boot on the S3. As far as I know, this kernel only works on the international version. I was just wondering if it would be possible to use a Rom Manager of sorts to boot between 2 different roms such as Stock Touchwiz and CM 10.1. I've already flashed CM before but it's a pain to switch between Touchwiz and CM by having to restore everything everytime.
Thanks

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767144 to use it for cm10+ you need to modify the updater-script. There's additional details in the thread
I currently have a phone running PAC man ROM and the stock kernel it came with. Im looking for ANY kernel to run on this ROM that increases battery life and overclocks but everytime I install a kernel, they always successfully install but my phone boots up without the boot animation and leads to a blank screen. The lights work and I can hear the volume controls and notifications, but nothing ever comes on the screen. I did this for 3 different kernels with the same result. I usually just reflash the PACman rom and all is good. What could the problem be?

You could be installing the wrong kernel for your ROM. For example, the BMS kernel has a 3.0.x version and a 3.4.x version. With the PACman ROM, the 3.4.x version only works on the latest (4.3) nightlies, and the 3.0.x only works on the latest stable or 4.2 builds. That's the first thing I would check. Next, make sure you're flashing the correct kernel for your carrier (eg., d2spr, d2vzw, d2att, etc). But other than that, I don't know what could be causing your problems.

If you're using a 4.2.2 AOSP ROM, this is version of dkp you wanna flash: http://d-h.st/uYG
If you're using a 4.3 AOSP ROM, this is the version of dkp you wanna flash: http://d-h.st/05V
Hope that helps...

When I try the kernel, the boot animation disappears and I still get the blank screen while the phone is on.

Try a different kernel? I don't know what else to recommend.

Damn I was gonna say that. I had the same problem.. I had a JTAG done cuz I goofed and I was on the LEN bootloader.
In case anyone doesn't know how to check:
Open terminal emulator
Type: su
Type: getprop ro.bootloader
the last three are your radio
eg. L710VMD4
This is the best way to check because sometimes(like my problem) under settings>about phone my baseband said md4 but my boot loader actually was LEN so when I tried flashing I got the same blank screen.

Hi, i searched everywhere in the AT&T section for a MIUI rom but only found a few which were stopped and had no new updates.
However i read somewhere on the forums here that you can use some n7105 roms in a i317 Note 2 Phone.
My question is, can i use the n7105 MIUI rom which was ported just 2 days ago?
If i cant, can someone point me in the right direction on using a newer version on MIUI on my Note 2 i317?
Thank you.
EDIT: I went ahead and installed the N7105 version but the phone wouldnt get past the XIOMI logo. I restored my phone back to the latest version found in the AT&T section 3.6.28.
Does anyone know how to get the n7105 version working? it was posted on the official MIUI forums 2 days ago and its the only version i have found that is n7105.
Or has anyone been able to install a newer version of MIUI? since it looks like the AT&T version has been discontinued.
The rom is fine ...but the kernel is likely putting you into a bootloop...
You may want to add another one in during the flash process that is compatible ...
I'd test neak kernel ....although not rated as compatible it may just work ...
And of course ...flash at your own risk ...and backup everything before hand ...g

Awesome, thanks for the reply.
Just to be sure, can i flash the kernel right after i flash the rom? or do i have to replace the boot.img inside the rom?
Edit: I tried flashing the neak kernel after the n7105 Rom but I got a black screen after the Samsung logo. I then tried other kernels (k.k.o, soa, and perseus) but they kept me in the miui logo. When I tried to change the boot.img manually into the zip I got a failed error when trying to flash the Rom.
If anyone can get a newer version of miui v5 to work on I317 note 2 please let me know how.
Thank You.
UPDATE: Anyone out there wanting to install the latest MIUI V5 into their Note 2 i317, i have found a way to do it.
For the past few days i have been on a hunt for a version that works with my phone and this is what i found.
Thanks to jing95916 who ported MIUI v5 to n7105, i went ahead and installed his latest port today a few people have problems with WIFI not turning on, but this is what i did.
After installing v 3.9.27 MIUI i let it boot, noticed wifi didnt work, but i remembered someone mentioning that it could be the kernel so i flashed SOA_4412_Kernel_06 found in the AT&T section under the MIUI 3.6.8 thread on post #1. Everything seems to be working perfectly so far, phone calls, SMS, wifi. Though there is one thing i noticed, on that when you flip screens it leaves behind a trail right on the Dock, it goes away when you switch to settings but comes back unless you have a transition effect that doesnt overlap the dock like the crossfade one. Other than that everything else seems to be working fine. I will continue to test the rom and see if i can find any other problems, but for now im very happy thnx to jing95916 port!

Kernel flash after the rom is fine ..
But with your boot loops ...I'm wondering if you are wiping correctly ??
And verify that your files are compatible with the device ...g

The problem i had was a different version, the one ported by jing95916 works perfectly in my i317 note 2 even though his port is for n7105. So everything is all good now, pretty happy to be using the latest MIUI rom.
I have a rooted n5110 4.2.2 note 8.0
first of all I'm not a noob. However I have been spoiled. Up till nowi have had Motorola decices that have great apps like rom manager and team black hat leaks to help you decide what roms to flash.
I'm at a loss when it comes to all the options in this forum. I see some roms based on 4.2.2; 4.3 and isn't CM 11.0 based on 4.4? If I flash a 4.3 rom and dont like it cani flash a 4.2 rom or restore a backup to get 4.2.2 back? That was a big no no wirh moto devices. Once you upgraded you had to stay less you got a hold of the spf file.
Ive looked into both PAC rom and CM rom: the stable and nightly versions of both. I know nightlies may be unstable so I would stay away from them less it is easy to flash back to a 4.2.2 stable release. And downloaded the right gapps package. Why cant developers just included that in the roms?
So a bit of help please. What are the differences between the 4.2.2; 4.3 and is CM 11 based on 4.0?
I also use twrp as a recovery but have used cwm in the past. I habe both onmy sdcard in case of trouble.
any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Come on....anybody?
