And to get beta you need to back it with $5. Its already past the needed amount, now backing it just means your buying beta access. Trying to spread the word, as I know many of us on xda love to be the first to try things!

Edit: What the hell, it seems like a great idea, I just gave $5.
Thanks for the link! I saw it on the weekend and forgot to circle back to it to contribute. :good:
So if i understand it correctly, they wwant us to donate and then the beta will be available? Its no beta available now?
Since they have what they need I'd like and open beta instead of a closed paid beta

June is the targets for backers according to their timeline, while everyone else waits till q1 2014.
Kinda wish they had a $$ level for people wanting the Alpha version *now* - keyboard looks very promising. Hope I don't get disappointed like in other keyboard cases (who shall remain nameless).

I actually took a screen shot of the key layout and pretended to type with it. it'd be very easy to adapt to. From the sounds of it this might be needed next big thing. I mean this is already so versatile it can type with a ring....

I currently use SwiftKey, and I like it fine. It is better than any alternatives, and I've tried them all. But I agree with jlear3 that "this might be the needed next big thing." Since buying my Nexus 7 last summer, I have wondered how developers could create an on-screen keyboard that didn't take up half the screen. I'm obviously not the only one who wondered this, as the developer specifically mentions that in the promo. While I'm very hesitant to say that this is the solution, especially since the beta is still months away, this does seem like a solution.
When is this being released?

Great concept, useless for anyone who types in different languages using English letters. (auto dictionary will just pick the closest English word) And $5 without even trying it, I'll pass.

Here it is for anyone interested:
Hi everyone,
Wow. Just… wow. We can’t even tell you how grateful we are for all of your excitement and support for this project.
In just 48 hours (!!) you’ve almost quadrupled our initial goal. And we’re well on our way to our stretch goal of $60,000, which will enable us to create a wearable development kit to allow others to bring Minuum to even more devices.
And thank you for helping to spread the word to your friends, family and networks! Sharing this campaign is the best way you can help bring the future of typing closer, today.
For the duration of this campaign, we’ll be posting more in-depth blogs and videos about Minuum. Stay tuned!
And, again, THANK YOU. So much.

I got in the beta yesterday (also gives you a extra invite on Steam to your friend). Overall a pretty smooth beta version,
having conversations with Steam friends pop out just like SMS messages although it is kind of in a 'iPhone' manner as its in bubbles. This app should definitely come in handy on it's next steam sale

When I heard about this, I thought Steam was getting into the iOS and Android game business, which would be a logical train of thought. Unfortunately, it was something far less useful than that.
Just so you guys know they reached their 40k limit for the first set of invites, they said they'll be sending out more soon though

I've been a long time iPhone user, since the first one, and I just bought a Galaxy s3 and can honestly say I don't miss it at all. The new one is just more of the same....
This is probably going to get locked down real fast.....but its definitely a BIG dissappointment. Some of my friends are turning into hypocrites real fast saying they'll buy it. Actually, what we really need would be Google Wallet support for our GS3's without the hack-around. But we know that wouldn't work with Apple since they're now Anti-Google. Forget where i saw it... think it was on the news earlier, but i like how they put it. Something along the lines of "There is so much competition between Apple and Google, that Apple decided to recreate the world." in regards to Apple's new maps system.

This.
Its almost impossible to get (cheap) nfc tags in Canada. I asked a Best Buy rep at the Eaton Centre store in Toronto a couple of days ago, and he had no idea what NFC was.
I was really hoping the new iphone would have it so that it would become 'mainstream', but guess we have to wait another year now. Also, doesn't help that stupid S Beam is incompatible with Android Beam (try transferring photos to any non-GS3 phone, it will fail..till we get updated to JellyBean)

i remember reading reviews almost 'ranting' about how light the galaxy s and galaxy s ii were. people were saying 'too light', 'does not feel premium because phone does not feel substantial in hand', 'iphone is perfect with high quality weight to it', 'sometimes not sure if in pocket or not'. something along those lines.
and i read this on a youtube comment but I think it could hold some truth. could Apple have not included nfc (even if it wanted to/why wouldn't they want to?), because it already finalized its aluminum design? fail.

excited to see what they bring to the table
android may not be as stagnant as iOS, but it's going to be neat having an ubuntu OS. I run it on my windows machine as another boot option and find it useful and fairly intuitive.
will be looking forward to news for this.
I think the ability to have a full fledged operating system on a phone is an amazing idea.
What those videos where showing was a Nexus running a Ubuntu operating system, with some sort of mobile theme applied. Once the device is docked it could be used as a desktop solution. Or plugged into a TV, or a laptop etc.
This is something the mobile market has never seen before.

I have a big concern about Ubuntu's history of ignoring feedback over the last few years. They've been making very heavy handed design decisions with the excuse that Linux users are 'free' to change things around if they want, but that attitude won't cut it in the consumer mobile market.

I've always enjoyed Ubuntu, not this new Unity thing but with Gnome classic it's been great. So I would definitely give this a try.

This would be perfect for the note 2, with huge screen and pen as mouse... using a skin launcher like unity on a phone would be great, laptop/desktop unity is junk... and have a full terminal my favorite part with connection to tv and bluetooth keyboard/mouse ...

"A specific date in unknown but it’s probable that the release will coincide with Canonical’s appearance at the Mobile World Congress 2013, being held between 25 – 28th of February." still over a month away
Now, there is a date:
Canonical announced the release of the image for the nexus and the source code as well, for the 21st of February. They will flash every phone they get at the MWC from 23 - 25.
Hopefully, someone will manage to port it for the sgn2, soon.

It seems like a difficult process. In oder for Ubuntu to run smoothly, it needs to be ran as a complete operating system. As was shown on those videos. What we can do today is run Ubuntu virtually, which, for obvious reasons, will be significantly slower.
Once the code is dropped, we have to find a way to port it over to our Notes. Which means finding specific drivers. If Samsung supports this (which I doubt) it would make the process that much simpler.
That and I'm assuming the confirmed working devices, Nexus S, Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 will all have a dual boot option from Android to Ubuntu. We don't have that option... Yet...
No support? I'd switch to the Nexus 4. Seriously. That's how badly I would love to have Ubuntu on my phone Lol. Id throw away LTE, expandable memory and a killer battery to have that OS in my hands.

More like January or Feb, I'd say or maybe never...at least for the Sprint variant. It isn't in Sprint's interest to push updates unless the other carriers do. Of course Samsung wants to get these updates moving because they want the public to feel they'll be supported if they purchase a Samsung branded device but brand loyalty isn't in Sprints interests unless the brand is Sprint and that of course is usually maintained at the end of a very thin thread as it is.
As for the possibility of receiving the 4.3 update. I'm always excited about OTA updates because updates play a fairly big role in future versions of Android. The more updates there are the more well understood it is what the public wants/needs from future versions because of the broader spectrum of users providing feedback.
For my own personal device...I don't care. I run what I want on my device anyway regardless of whatever Samsung/Sprint/Google push. I don't give a rats ass about having a "pure" Android experience or being the first to get the latest version (no offense to the Nexus fans) either. I want my device dirty and nasty with a big moustache. I don't want be like one of those creeps that hangs around the strip clubs but never pays for a lap dance...I'm in the champaign room and let me tell you there is more going on in there than the song says. Why do you think I'm hanging around here? Trick it, brick it, fix it, trick it and brick it again...that's what it all about.

Yea don't really care because Google separated their core services from the operating system so most of the really great feature are now pushed through Google rather than being a part of a new os version.

The updates that we all are anxious for are system updates that ROM devs can work with, make better ROMs for us all. Definitely worth "complaining" about.
That other thread is about a fault where the phone thinks it needs a software update, but not really, or the update in question is actually not desirable for whatever reason.

I've been thinking long n hard about that, as an option. I do love my Note2, with the exception of the plastic, it's a badass device. But I don't actually use the pen as much as I thought I would. So taking a long look at the HTC Mega (?), and hoping that it makes it to the US... I allow myself a new phone every year, it being a hobby I indulge myself in, and I always buy outright, no ETF charges...
