It says my SGS2 is not a compatible device.
I'm looking forward to this app. I have been waiting for this for so long.

Already signed up for the Beta. Its been a long time coming.

Been looking forward to an official app for some time now. Hopefully I'll be able to get into the BETA.

Still unable to download it from the market. GT-I9100.
Anyone in posession of the apk?

signed up, thanks for the tip. I've been waiting forever.

same here! thanks for the tip

I got in the beta yesterday (also gives you a extra invite on Steam to your friend). Overall a pretty smooth beta version,
having conversations with Steam friends pop out just like SMS messages although it is kind of in a 'iPhone' manner as its in bubbles. This app should definitely come in handy on it's next steam sale
http://store.steampowered.com/mobile for screenshots. Kind of silly how VALVe used Nexus One + ICS as photoshop instead of Galaxy Nexus

When I heard about this, I thought Steam was getting into the iOS and Android game business, which would be a logical train of thought. Unfortunately, it was something far less useful than that.

Just so you guys know they reached their 40k limit for the first set of invites, they said they'll be sending out more soon though
EDIT: My friend gifted me a beta key, so I guess anyone who is part of the beta can give out a key

Is there anyone who was invited and doesn't have any friends in android?

Swype Availability???

Is it out yet for the nexus? Cause I need it badly, I keep thinking I have it lol
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
It took me a few days to stop trying to swype. I tried SlideIT, ended up liking the stock keyboard more.
To actually answer the question, apparently they have not updated it yet for GNex screen resolution.

Lol thanks. Yeah I keep catching myself "swyping" oh well I'll type like the common folk for a while haha jk

I used to be a swype fanatic... nothing seemed as fun or efficient. i installed and uninstalled SwiftKey about 3 times before just settling on it due to really appreciating its predictive text capabilities and accuracy. also the fact that it learns your style so well. so ya, try it out

The thread title is misleading as others including myself may think it's actually out when it's not.

screen resolution shouldn't be a problem, I'm using swype on my rezound. Maybe an ICS incompatibility???

It's incompatible because swype doesnt see the resolution because of the Softkeys on the bottom (Screen res. is reported a little less then 720p).
As to getting an update on it...Doubtful there will be any before early 2012.
As I understand it Swype got aquired by a different company (Nuance), so they are in the "thinking box" trying to decide which software should be implemented where...

I've been in the swype beta program for Android for about 2 years and still waiting for a bill to buy the product. Maybe through the acquisition by Nuance there could be an investment to make it a product (OEM licence or end-user) and then engage the developers to finish the excellent work started by the first team.
Start with ICS and pick up some of the tablet market too.

Ubuntu Phone OS - Let's Find it and Port It!

Alright guys here is the video shown on the Galaxy Nexus in case you have been living under a rock for the past few days...
Everywhere I look I cannot find anywhere where it has been released to begin working on getting it to our Note 2. Let us update this thread and eventually turn it into a "How-To" once we slap together something that works.

I think its kind of like a mash up of wp and android. To me I don't know if I like it yet I don't think, it looks like everything big and they didn't utilize the realist ate they have. And that looked a little slow, if you watch on some of the transactions and I like the ability to have buttons and menus. I'll have to play with it when its out but so far I'm not sure

Looks like a themed version of miui to me. Nothing special but im not a ubuntu user.
excited to see what they bring to the table
android may not be as stagnant as iOS, but it's going to be neat having an ubuntu OS. I run it on my windows machine as another boot option and find it useful and fairly intuitive.
will be looking forward to news for this.
I think the ability to have a full fledged operating system on a phone is an amazing idea.
What those videos where showing was a Nexus running a Ubuntu operating system, with some sort of mobile theme applied. Once the device is docked it could be used as a desktop solution. Or plugged into a TV, or a laptop etc.
This is something the mobile market has never seen before.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
I have a big concern about Ubuntu's history of ignoring feedback over the last few years. They've been making very heavy handed design decisions with the excuse that Linux users are 'free' to change things around if they want, but that attitude won't cut it in the consumer mobile market.

I've always enjoyed Ubuntu, not this new Unity thing but with Gnome classic it's been great. So I would definitely give this a try.
Ive been looking for ubuntu phone os for almost 2 years lol since they released there website ... Ubuntu can we get some leakage love hehe
This would be perfect for the note 2, with huge screen and pen as mouse... using a skin launcher like unity on a phone would be great, laptop/desktop unity is junk... and have a full terminal my favorite part with connection to tv and bluetooth keyboard/mouse ...

"A specific date in unknown but it’s probable that the release will coincide with Canonical’s appearance at the Mobile World Congress 2013, being held between 25 – 28th of February." still over a month away
Now, there is a date:
Canonical announced the release of the image for the nexus and the source code as well, for the 21st of February. They will flash every phone they get at the MWC from 23 - 25.
Hopefully, someone will manage to port it for the sgn2, soon.
Can't wait to try it out! Even though functionality will be very basic at first... The only thing that worries me is whether the Ubuntu install will repartition our phone. It would be a bit of a ***** in that case

It seems like a difficult process. In oder for Ubuntu to run smoothly, it needs to be ran as a complete operating system. As was shown on those videos. What we can do today is run Ubuntu virtually, which, for obvious reasons, will be significantly slower.
Once the code is dropped, we have to find a way to port it over to our Notes. Which means finding specific drivers. If Samsung supports this (which I doubt) it would make the process that much simpler.
That and I'm assuming the confirmed working devices, Nexus S, Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 will all have a dual boot option from Android to Ubuntu. We don't have that option... Yet...
No support? I'd switch to the Nexus 4. Seriously. That's how badly I would love to have Ubuntu on my phone Lol. Id throw away LTE, expandable memory and a killer battery to have that OS in my hands.

Minuum keyboard - beta access ($)

And to get beta you need to back it with $5. Its already past the needed amount, now backing it just means your buying beta access. Trying to spread the word, as I know many of us on xda love to be the first to try things!

I currently use SwiftKey, and I like it fine. It is better than any alternatives, and I've tried them all. But I agree with jlear3 that "this might be the needed next big thing." Since buying my Nexus 7 last summer, I have wondered how developers could create an on-screen keyboard that didn't take up half the screen. I'm obviously not the only one who wondered this, as the developer specifically mentions that in the promo. While I'm very hesitant to say that this is the solution, especially since the beta is still months away, this does seem like a solution.
When is this being released?

Hi everyone,
Wow. Just… wow. We can’t even tell you how grateful we are for all of your excitement and support for this project.
In just 48 hours (!!) you’ve almost quadrupled our initial goal. And we’re well on our way to our stretch goal of $60,000, which will enable us to create a wearable development kit to allow others to bring Minuum to even more devices.
And thank you for helping to spread the word to your friends, family and networks! Sharing this campaign is the best way you can help bring the future of typing closer, today.
For the duration of this campaign, we’ll be posting more in-depth blogs and videos about Minuum. Stay tuned!
And, again, THANK YOU. So much.

Giving away gnex

Hey guys.
Recently my beloved nexus' radios decided to quit working. I've tried everything to get them back but the harsh reality is that they just don't work anymore. I made a thread in the Q&A section to no avail.
Decided to go with the GS4 so I have an unused somewhat defective, and clearly used phone that is just sitting on my desk. When I went from my incredible to the gnex, I gave my incredible to one of the awesome devs that made that phone so much better. I'm thinking of doing it again because you guys are so great.
So if you are a dev, contact me and I'll so my best to give it to someone who can truly use it. Whether it be for parts or as a test flashing device, etc.
I can ship the phone free of charge through amazon since I work there so there really is no hassle involved.
Just to be clear, the radios (as far as I can tell) don't work, the charging port is a bit loose and sometimes hard to charge, and there are a few scratches on the screen and around the bezel. Other than that everything works. So perfect for a test device for your future roms.
I really want someone to USE the device and not just turn around and sell it, although I would be none the wiser. So let me know if you NEED it.
Thank you to this community (most of you ) and to all the hard working developers that got me thru the last few years. It's been fun.

I also have an extended battery that I can give to someone as well.
And this is a Verizon model, if that matters.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
Well I have one already.
Although, it's the sprint variant.
You see, I don't make that much money, and I got this for christmas, sure it's great, but since it's limited to CDMA, I cannot be flexible with it at all.
It really does suck, I've been wanting to sell it and replace it with a GSM Galaxy Nexus, but no one will buy it, everyone already moved on to wanting the galaxy S4 or something similar.
So I definitely don't NEED it, but it would save me some money with me being able to change to Straight talk.
About the broken radios, I can try and repair it, buy a new charging port, buy a new antenna, etc etc, it'd be a fun project. I've already started some development for myself for the toroplus, and the GSM Galaxy nexus would allow me to fully mess with a semi working Ubuntu Touch OS.
And, if it wasn't given to me, which it probably won't, I actually have a cheap 12 dollar otterbox like case for the GSM Galaxy Nexus, I messed up on the order and got that instead of one for my model.

Friend of mine really wants to start developing for phones. And I told him a nexus phone would be the best. But he doesn't really have the money to buy one and neither do I. So many apps incompatible with 4.3... WTF.

Anyone have insight on when this may get resolved? Should I go back to 4.2.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app

Considering that the OS has been around for a bit over a week I'm amazed at how many apps ARE compatible.
If you have mission critical stuff, by all means go back to or stay with 4.2.x until the specific developer updates.
Otherwise enjoy the new OS and be patient. The good Devs are on it...

This is the price we pay for being the very first to get these updates. I don't mind it myself but for those that are bothered just wait for a free weeks before upgrading next time to give the app devs time to catch up.

I was checking out this thread because Comixology seems to be the first app that's not working in 4.3 for me. It force closes as soon as I open it.

Just you. I've been using it without any problem. Clear cache and (if necessary) data on the app.

Use Google currents and add Engadget under the science and tech section. I never used currents before, but its quite convenient once you get all your reading apps incorporated in to it.

Try Feedly instead. Same concept but MUCH better than Currents. It's so good that I now use Feedly as my go to reader for all news, tech, sports, and car sites on my phone, tablet, laptop and desktop.
