[Q] Change DPI on stock - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running stock 4.1.1, it's odexed and rooted.
I'm wanting to change my DPI to 200 maybe, but it seems I need a deodexed ROM to do that. I really can't be bothered reflashing and I don't have enough data to download a new rom anyway.
So is there any way to change it?

Check in my signature.
You can set any dpi with that guide.
Just you need to use a custom keyboard.

Your sig is actually what made me want to do it. The guide confused me though. What modules do I need to use and where from? And I have to download like 10 modified apps don't I?

If you want 240dpi then you have to download the modified keyboard and I recommend launcher as well.
If not 240dpi then you have to use a custom keyboard and again I recommend launcher as well. You have to disable the stock ones.
Now some apps don't work nice on a specific dpi. You have to use xposed app settings and make them run in 320dpi.
You have to download xposed framework and download the 3 modules listed in the guide.

[Q] GT-S5363 custom ROM

Hello,
Firstly, I am new to this forum. I watched the "noob video" and try to follow the guidelines.
I own a Samsung Galaxy Y(oung) GT-S5363. The baseband version is S5363XXKK3.
My Carrier is O2 Germany.
Now I found that the original firmware's options are kinda limited. For instance it doesn't have different profiles and there is no setting for vibration feedback while typing.
Now I want to flash my phone with a custom ROM. The ROMs I found are for the GT-S5360, but after a short forum search I discovered that I can use 5360 ROMs.
However, the custom ROMs I found are a little bloated. I don't want the ROM to have as many functions as you can pack into it and change the whole look & feel of the phone.
I want the ROM to use as little RAM and CPU as possible. It is not important to have German as UI language setting, but the Swype keyboard should know German.
Now which ROMs could you recommend to me? If there is no ROM out there which meets my requirements, would you recommend me building my own one?
Thanks in advance,
Luca
check out the multilanguage roms in android dev. section.. u can find the rom u like over there
Cranium is very minimalistic. So I guess Cranium is the one you are looking for. Theres only a handful of Roms available though.
No custom rom atm has Swype as keyboard. Just download Swype beta, it has German language support.
Sent from my GT-S5360 using xda premium
hybrid is also known as a light one. if you want the swype. copy swype.apk in your current rom (in /system/app) to your sd card then copy it to /system/app folder in custom rom's zip folder.
btw, you can remove any bloatware from your rom manually by deleting the apk's via root explorer or any file explorer which could acces system's folder.
Is this possible with Linux as Desktop OS? I use Xubuntu and don't want to install Windows just for messing around with my smartphone^^
to modify the rom's *zip file you can do it in linux or whatever OS as long as you can open the zip file. to manually remove the bloatware from your current stock rom you should root your device and install root explorer.
So, I clicked through a few threads with the alternative firmwares. As far as I got it, both the Cranium and the Hybrid mod change the look & feel drastically. Is there a way to have more settings with the Samsung TouchWiz UI?
you may use another launcher...

More settings? Try Creed's. It has Auto Brightness, Xloud, Swipe to remove notifications in the newest version and what not. Im running on v2.0 though.

Hi, I recommend EmeralD ROM
It contains German Swype, and just some minimal modifications on the stock ROM.
There's all the stock apps in, but you can remove the unneeded apps from the zip (system/app folder) before applying.

[Q] Similar ROM to Slimbean (small size) but without its own Gapps?

So the thing I enjoy most about slimbean is the "night" setting and the smaller sizes.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but the part that determines the general sizes is the LCD density, and for slim its at 245.
Are there any ROMs that also use the same LCD density (if that is what's causing the small size)?
I'm mainly wondering because it uses its own Gapps package so that it could do this night mode where everything is black.
But I want to use the new gmail and other gapps that just came out more than I want night mode
You don't have to use the SlimBean GApps with the Slim ROMs, but have a look at CarbonROM (has Dark Carbon settings and you can change LCD density).

I use LiquidSmooth (what Carbon is based off of) and used to use their method to change the DPI. But recently, I've discovered the XPosed Per-App DPI settings included in the Rom. With it I can manually adjust the DPI of any program to make it whatever I want. The thing I like about this is that I don't have to mess with the Play Store (no more errors when trying to download apps). That, and some apps don't play well with a modified dpi on our phone.
I can go through and make google calendar 240 dpi and see how it functions, then change it to 190 an see how it works. I change Nova's setting to make the launcher look more like Slim Rom's (the Rom that made me fall in love with switching the DPI). It works really well and is worth a test drive, in my opinion.

So I tried to install it, and I got this assert failed problem, which links to this solution. Did you flash the odex, deodex, or 3rd rom? I'm just confused, since I would have to install a gapps for the 4.1.2 JB. did you do any of that?
edit - my broadband is mc3

No, you need to read the guys post again. He says to update your bootloader to MD4 to fix it, not to flash one of the stock roms.

Xperia S, 4.1.2, FW 6.2.b.1.96 : Changing the LCD DPI ?

Hello,
A great colleague of mine who also owns a xperia S like me
loaded SlimNasomi rom (I think 4.2.2) and did change lcd DPI.
Screen displays more info and icons are smaller. Look nice.
Is it a way to do it with official 6.2.b.1.96 rom ?
I found a thread on a forum about root'ing the phone and
updating a file build.prop in /system, updating ro.sf.lcd_density
I even found an app 'Google Play DPI Fix Tool'
Did anyone already try to play with LCD DPI's ?
Thanks. Cheers from Belgium,
Thierry
I use Texdroider DPI - it worked on stock JB, rooted.

It changes build.prop to desired dpi. I use it because it's faster and it really works. I tried on stock ROM, OpenSEMC and letama's AOSP 4.3.
And what is the range of values to stay in to avoid an endless bootloop?
yes that's the question, What value did you use for. in .200 fw i used a lcd density changer soft (don't remember the name) and guess what i got endless loop. I used 244 or something like that.
I usually use 240 and I didn't have any problems with that dpi.
It is standard Android dpi so most apps work just fine. Stock ROM look good but it has some minor offsets (gradient in notification bar as far as I remember).
I have been talking about this in the themes section in an old thread. I keep seeing people have issues with the dpi apps. I personally just edit build prop manually as it is not hard. I use Anttek explorer for my file browsing and edits. I would also suggest you try Xposed framework and per app dpi module. The magic LCD number is 192 for tablet mode. If you set home to 160 it goes into tablet mode but the status bar will not combine at the bottom. There is also another xposed module that forces tablet mode and works well but is still buggy. You also loose small apps.
There is a way to force tablet mode with out the dpi change but I have to figure out how to do that and even then not sure it will actually work. Need to ask some smali experts to help me.
... and what about if in endless bootloop ? ... :crying:
You must make backup before any modifcations
Yea it is a great idea to have a backup when messing with the system. If something goes wrong you can just go back to where you started.

You can:
1) Reduce dpi to 530. This is still in xxxhdpi range, and it looks better than 640.
2) Switch to AOSP-based rom.
And, finally, the hardest one:
3) Copy all stock apk's resources from xxxhdpi to xxhdpi. Find apps, in which layout is irreparably broken in xxdpi, decompile and mod their layout with apktool (or Virtuous Ten Studio, as it's a complete IDE for decompiling and modding apk's).

Ok, thank you very much :good:
So i think that i will test AOSP based ROM and i will tell you if it as working
Edit:
@ YaDr
Can you tell me what AOSP based ROM is not based on CM dev ?
Finally, after my tests:
For now, its not possible to change propeply and permanently the DPI resolution on stock based ROM like Cloudy ROM or Lion ROM.
Its work on customs ROM like CM & AOKP & others like Paranandroid, Omni, Vanilla, SlimBeam, MIUI.........(if you don't see an option after install the ROM or on the main thread of it).
For exemple, on Euphoria ROM, there is an option to change DPI display

[MOD] Theme you xperia M Stock Rom via Xposed installer

Hi friends
are you bored of your Stock rom UI ..?
So here's a new themes and mods where you can easily customize your Stock rom with some nice xposed modules
I Know its not new i mean its already there but i just want to make you feel good in using it for who doesnt have a idea about this
Lets start
Before installing it make sure to backup your current data and everything with a recovery. It is recommended because some modules gonna overrides system defaults so incase if you want to revert back to stock experiance for that u must backup your rom/ if not also not a problem u can flash stock firmware and can get back your stock experiance
1. Download and install xposed installer
here is the video how to install it
2. Now its time for to download modules , open xposed installer there u will see a list of profiles containing framework, modules, download, settings etc.. you just need to hit download and search for modules there
3. Some of the recommended modules for customization
--->Android theme engine (to theme your status and navigation bars icons, colors etc..,)
--->AppOpsXposed (to manage permissions for apps installed in your phone like restricting apps to use your contacts, location,sd card access etc...,)
--->Gem Xperia Xposed (to theme your xperia launcher, system ui )
---> Gravity box
--->Serajir Xperia Xposed
--->Xblast tools
--->Xstana (to change your status and navigation bar icons)
--->Youtube Adway (to block ads in youtube while streaming)
and to theme your launcher follow this guide
Sorry for not detailing about how to use mods but not a problem u can find easily videos on youtube
and its just a little brain work if you know how to use one mod and you can easily know how to use the other mods
IF you have any doubts pls feel free to post you comments
