I've been trying to run an AOSP ROM as my daily driver, but there's a big problem with all that I've tried (CM10.1, SlimBean, MROM, etc).
The all have a noticeable input lag. Basically, I'll touch an app and it won't accept the touch and open for a little under half a second after I touched it. I also think this might be called "touch latency" by some.
This is a weird problem, because all of the Touchwiz ROMs I've tried (including heavily themed ones) have no lag at all for me. Because of that, I'm sure this is a software problem for my phone with AOSP. Anyone know what I can do to fix this?
I have used several different ROMs and never ran in to this problem. Maybe try liquid smooth and see if it is still present there.

Have you tried different kernals? I've heard some people with lag issues having them resolved with new kernals.
Just my two cents, hope they're worth something

This usually happens to my phone whenever I use an AOSP rom (AOKP, CM7, CM9, etc). But whenever I use a Sense based rom, the issues vanish. It usually happens when I'm trying to type something out or play games on the phone. Anyone else having similar issues?

I think that was a known issue. You could try flashing Aero's kernel, 0.7 for GB and the new v10 or 10.5 for ICS. Hope that helps.
Here's the link to the ICS kernels.

Right, I am using the v10 kernel for CM9 and this is happening. (Not going to use the 10.5 because data goes all wonky in it).
EDIT: I think you're referring to the multi touch issues in the CM7 AOSP roms. I'm talking about certain areas of the screen not responding from time to time.

No touch issues. It would help if you could explain just a little.
Every time I touch my screen..it responds perfectly! That's my issue! J/k

I think my words are pretty clear. The touch issues persist whenever I'm on an AOSP rom (right now, I'm using CM9), and the issues continue to bug me whenever I'm playing a game or typing a message. It's happening whenever I use the stock kernel or Aero's v10 kernel.

was just about to make a post...
i too am experiencing touch issues. only time i really see it is at the bottom of the screen, for isntance, typing and trying to hit space or shift. also in draw soemthing, i cannot select the smallest width paintbrush. so that area seems to be culprit
::::edit should note that im on cm9, aosp, 10.5 now and will report back, those issues were in aokp with v10
;;;;same problem. seems like the problem area is about 1cm up from the softbuttons
further testing reveals that in landscape that area of the screen has no problems, so its not hardware based (right?)
It's probably just me...But does anyone else notice increased "lag" with this update?
It's probably just me...But does anyone else notice increased "lag" with this update? I certainly do - Rooted with most bloat frozen too...
Try a custom rom like darkside evolution or adjust the OC/UV

Thanks - any suggestions on settings for my OC/UV?
Unrooted with the stock ICS update. I've caught my S2 locking up every now and then for as long as a couple of minutes. also noticed more lag switching between apps, particularly Contacts
and, to be honest, I have tried most ROMs out there and applaud the terrific work - While some offer blazing speeds, great UIs, whatever...There ALWAYS seems to be something missing (WiFi Calling, incompatible radio, no MMS...you name it) If I could find an ICS - Based ROM with everything stock has, working properly, I'm there!

All the custom roms won't have those problems as soon as they put the proprietary drivers in.

is there 1 ROM you'd suggest for the T989?

Just a personal opinion, but i would ODIN the stock ICS for now and wait a few days/week for AOSP, AOKP, and all the other individual rom makers to get the proprietary drivers and source merged in. That will make ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD.
I will - thanks man
I have so far very good experience with the Darkside mod of the stock ICS.
Small issue with reboot hanging was fixed using his scripts. Personally I prefer stock rooted with junk removed from the system. I need full functionality of the stock from for everyday life.
BTW my battery life is also good.

Has anyone else noticed that the framerate when "flipping" in Flipboard degrades occasionally?
This started happening to me recently and I'm really at a loss as to what could be causing it. It normally goes like this: After rebooting, the performance is fine (i.e. looks like its running at ~60fps). After closing the app / switching to another app and then returning to Flipboard, all animations become really choppy (looks like they're running at ~20fps).
The really frustrating part is that it never used to be a problem. I've tried uninstalling, clearing data, the old version, the new version, etc, etc. Nothing is fixing it. I'm trying to narrow down if something else that I installed is causing the slowdown, but so far nothing is making sense. Also, nothing else on my phone is experiencing any performance problems.
Anyone else have the same issue?
This happened to me when I first got my GS3 a month ago. Idk why but maybe there has been performance updates for the app - because Flipboard is buttery smooth now.

Are you running stock rom or custom or possibly aosp/aokp? Im on a stock rom and haven't had any issues with flipboard at all and use it nearly everyday

Count me in for no issues, on kyanROM with newest ktoonsez.

I can't prove it yet, but I have a theory that the problems may actually be caused by the Lightflow app.
Curious to know if there are any Flipboard + Lightflow users out there...

I am using both I am using the paid version of light flow and it's working great for me
It's supposed to reduce lag

A lot of people have mixed emotions about the enthropy thing. I have tried before on my mytouch 4g and never really noticed any difference. I think if it really did work everyone would know about it and would probably be implemented by the manufacturer.
Seems more like a placebo effect to me

it makes your android system make more random data it fix lags on some games
i did used it on sense roms no changes but in flinny's cm 10.1 it worked great
Thanks for the info!
Why are some ROMs almost a GB and others only a couple hundred MB?? I noticed that the ones that are almost GB install flawlessly on my Boost Mobile GS3. I flashed the MD4 firmware with the Boost modem and installed Liquid JB 2.9 and right away the keyboard kept crashing over and over and it just seemed to be running right. Didnt feel as smooth as stock, midnight, or MOAR. Tried deleting the first part of the updater file and installed Super Nexus but partially bricked immediately. Wouldn't go past the second splash screen. Been resesrching like crazy but can't seem to find an answer to all this madness. Any light shedding would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Most touchwiz ROMs are 1GB due to added features and aosp ROMs are smaller because they are clean and not bloated
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Why am I having trouble installing the smaller ROMs? Is it because I possibly have an ICS bootloader. Read that certain GS3s running 4.1.2 may still have ICS bootloaders. Any way to change it to JB? Sorry for all the questions, I just like to be clear on all I do.

Well, I figured out what the problem was. Silly that I didn't think of it before. I was using the Android 4.3 GApps. It kept making the keyboard crash and I also had noticed that it didn't bring up the new owner menu or whatever it is. I'm curently on CM 10.1.2, but I'm about to go to CM 10.1.3. BTW, I love CM 10.1.2. It's ridiculously fast compared to the other ROMs I've used. Love it!!!
