4.2.1 "0" folders!!!!

I'm on 4.2.1 and everytime I flash a new rom, It creates this new "0" Folder. I already know why it creates these folders.
Problem is, these folders are not populated with anything inside. They're just copies of the same folder but empty.
My questions is, for someone like me who has a full /sdcard, what is the best and quickest way to move all my folder back to /sdcard and get rid of the "0" folders. I have about 7 of them now...
Moving them one by one seems incredibly slow since the nexus internal memory isn't fast at all...

Tried that myself, removing everything from 0 folder effectively deleted everything as far as android was concerned .... the data in sdcard was no longer readable

I was wondering what would happen if I deleted the 0 folders as well. I think I might back everything up to my PC and do some tinkering with the folders.

These "0" Folders should no longer appear if you are using the latest TWRP recovery. I even read that the latest CWM recovery has also fixed this.
When it happened to me, I installed the new ROM (of course, rooted) then used ES File Explorer to CUT the data from the deepest "0" Folder then paste it to the main /sdcard/ place. Afterwards, all my files were on /sdcard/ and the "0" folder as well but it is empty now because I took the data out of it, so I deleted the "0" Folder. I lost nothing of my data this way.
If you are going to try this, then first use ADB to pull the data from /sdcard/ to your PC then try so you can push your data again if anything goes wrong

You don't need ADB, just connect your phone to your PC and open up the storage.
Find the current 0 folder or w/e that your system is currently using. (You can check date it was modified)
Paste it in the /Sdcard and delete everything else.
You said you knew why it was doing it but you kept doing it? Your harsh on yourself, update your recovery.
O and the answer is in 1 of these threads too, probably to same thread you downloaded your ROM from.

so the new CWM, 6.0.1.5 fixes this? I dont have this problem yet because i havent flashed a new rom after 4.2 but I just want to make sure before I do. Thanks.

no 6.0.1.9

is 6.0.1.9 availible for nexus (gsm)? only find 6.0.1.5 at rom manager site

I think that is because the new OS allows the multiusers.
After all, the clockwork file are is in /data/media/ , with the 0 folder

CWM 6.0.1.5 does fix the nested 0 folder issue, 6.0.1.9 is a kang

Download TWRP recovery or update your clockwork recovery. I recommend TWRP, very nice recovery and feel that it's better than clockwork

well I have the newest twrp and I get 0 folders all time when jumping from rom to rom and legacy folders. I just take everything out of them and merge it back into the main folders.... it works perfect (nothing gets lost) my worry is im maybe adding files that are ment to be deleted.. never anything good in the 0 folders just boring app crap but then again I only test other 4.2.1 roms I don't use them. So maybe given time the 0 folders would get big? if so iI woulde love a fix I searched a lot but i keep finding these threads so I thought poswt.
Your not crazy new recovery isn't a fix at all

For me, if i use latet CWM, if i flash from 4.1 to 4.2, the files will stay the same. But if i flash from 4.2 to 4.1, then it start creating 0 folder. But if i flashed 4.2 roms to 4.2 roms, no 0 folder was created.
However, i tried latest TWRP last night, flashing PA 4.2 rom from CNA 4.1, it still create the 0 folder.
Its weird..and annoying

Ok if I already got 0 folder how do I fix this?
So going from 4.2 to 4.1 on CWM you don't end up with a left over 0folder and legacy driver? I only get them going from 4.2 to 4.1

Flashed CM10, went to restore to a previous backup. No files found

Clockwork version 6.0.1.4, I'm on Jelly Bean
Flashed CM and didnt like it, went to restore to the backup I did minutes before flashing and now I'm getting no files found.

have u checked the blobs folder internal and external sd card?

Which version of CM did you flash. If you flashed one of the nightly builds dated 12/17 and forward you may have flashed 10.1 which is JB 4.2.1. JB 4.2.1 modifies the directory layout to make way for multi-user support and puts the contents of your /sdcard/ folder to /sdcard/0/ which may cause your backups to not be recognized by CWM.

This is just happened to me, i was on CM10, and just did and upgrade now im on the CM10.1. it moved everything to the sdcard/0/
my question is how do I get all that stuff I backed up back to the proper folder??

If you have USB MTP functionality you can just connect it to your computer and manually move your CWM folder from /sdcard/0 to /sdcard/
Then simply boot to recovery and CWM should see your list of backups.

I'm on the same boat as the OP. I tried doing what you recommended but the darn files won't copy and it takes ages. I'm helpless. Hating CM10 for ruining my life lol.

Aww don't hate on cm, the new update is causing some pretty big problems, but keep in mind it is only 3 days old. give it some time. =)
There are a couple of possible solutions:
1.) Flash back to stock using ODIN and then reinstall a custom recovery/ROM.
2.) ADB push the backups to the correct folder.
Either option should work just fine. In the future I'd also recommend TWRP as your recovery manager. It has a built in file manager that saved me on this issue by allowing me to copy the data to the correct folders within the recovery module itself.

This is what I figured. However, the backup fails with message "Error while restoring /system".
Tried using CWM 6.0.0.0 (which version is equipped with cm10 stable?) and installing cm10 stable prior to restoring my cm10 backup. It still fails and now I don't know what to do next. Any advice is welcome!
EDIT1: BTW: I need to restore my CM10 to remove my 4*4 pattern... when installing CM10.1, 3*3 pattern must be entered, which I don't know, so I cannot unlock my own phone... :/
EDIT2: Hold on... I did not know about incremental backups and hence I did not copy the blobs folder (within clockworkmod folder)... I will do that now and expect the restore to succeed then.
EDIT3: this works fine, remember to not only copy the folder "backups" but also all the other stuff of the clockworkmod-folder. or make a symlink in /data/media to the old location. works fine.

1. Open terminal, become root by using command 'su'.
2. Enter the following command:
cp -Rv /data/media/0/clockworkmod/backup/[backup dir] /data/media/clockworkmod/backup
eg.:
cp -Rv /data/media/0/clockworkmod/backup/2012-12-12.12.00.44 /data/media/clockworkmod/backup
Reboot to recovery and select the 'backup and restore'. Now there will be another entry with your older backup. Restore it. Enjoy!

Process: I was running goodness rom and decided to run Liquid smooth. Decided to switch back but couldn't find backup cause its on sdc 0 i believe. Couldn't back up with twrp. Decided to reflash goodness and put apps back with titanium but titanium couldn't find apps. I think I read somewhere that you have to merge something. Helppp! ! Thanks in advance

Your stuff is not lost.... All Android 4.2 ROMs split your SD card in 2 bc of the multi user feature. All of your stuff should be on sd card 01.

How do I get there in twrp though? I see two options in the restore column and both show up blank? Internal and external storage

You didn't say you were trying to restore. Twrp backups are in different folder than cwm backups.

Just move everything that is in your "0" folder to you sdcard root or you external SD card. Recovery can't see all of the folders for some reason. At least that's how I fixed it.

I apologize. From the beginning of flashing Liquid Smooth I have not been able to restore a backup back to goodness bc twrp can not find it. I found out how to get my apps back in titanium by changing paths but I would like to restore my phone to the backup I made before flashing LS.

When moving between 4.1.x ( / storage / sdcard0 / ) and 4.2.x based roms
everything for 4.2.x is moved into your
/ storage / sdcard0 / emulated / 0 /
In order for you to get it back just get root explorer and move everything thats inside
' / storage / sdcard0 / emulated / 0 / '
to
' / storage / sdcard0 / '
if twrp STILL doesn't see the necessary nandroid backups then you'll need to flash to a 4.1.x based roms
and then redo the process.
Everything should be fine after that and all you need to do is reboot your phone twice. once for the phone to read
all the files in the root of the sdcard and then again going into custom recovery to find your twrp backup files.
You now and can restore from the nandroid you previously had.
twrp and cwm are both the same its just most recommend using others because of the extra features it has.
all in all, both CAN'T read ALL files but it should be able to read ALL folders.
I've been switching back and forth as well from PA, PAC-man, and LS and what i usually do is flash to 4.1.x
and then move the files, clearing cache and dalvik cache then rebooting and my phone hasn't ran into any
problems from doing that.
If you're staying on LS and trying to restore BACK to The Goodness JB rom, then move this folder
' / Emulated / 0 / TWRP / '
to
' / Storage / sdcard 0 / '
and twrp should be able to read the nandroid because the path to backup and restore is usually ' sdcard0 / TWRP '
or when using an external sd card
' / ExtsdCard / TWRP ' <- JB default location
' / sdcard1 / TWRP ' AOSP default location

Your post should have it's own sticky. I've seen this issue repeatidly, and a lot of users end up giving up and staying with either TW or AOSP.

It's only a work around for now until custom recoveries can be fully optimized for 4.2.x based roms reading
from the ' / emulated / 0 / ' folder instead of the sdcards root.

Yeah, it's actually been one of the reasons I've been sticking with TW Roms. I remember that headache with the Gnex. It's terrifying when you don't know what's going on. Lol

Which version of TWRP are you running? I know that the older versions had a lot of trouble going between 4.2 and 4.1 Roms. They have done a good job of fixing this recently. I'm currently on TWRP 2.4.1.0 and it's been working fine for me. Try the newest TWRP file.
Also, as far as I'm aware, you WILL NOT be able to restore TWRP nandroids from CWM. They use different organization schemes when running Nandroids, so you can't switch between the two and restore backups willy-nilly..
My recommendation, update to the latest TWRP and see if you can find the files. Otherwise, go into your Root explorer and copy everything from the "0" folder to the base folder. It's tedious and time-consuming, but it should work.

Thanks everyone for your input. The verdict:
I was so impatient i decided to back up my current rom, locate where that folder was via es file explorer, moved my backup to that exact folder and ta daaa!! Only thing is my sd card is crazy now cause i tried so many things and moved so many things around (i have a sdcard 0 0 0 directory) and i put my whole "0" folder on my ext sd card which took up a lot of space. I took the 0 folder off and put it on my desktop. Im missing a few things but from what i can see, nothing too crucial thus far.
My future plans: I just unrooted to accept update ( running mb1 now, what is that all about). So after class i will be rerooting and throwing Goodness back on there. If i run into any problems, ill be back (terminator voice)

files missing in TWRP/file explorer

I noticed while trying to flash a new kernal for lifeless 14.. I download the file like normal (in downloads folder) when i go to try and flash and select the file I dont see it anywhere. I reboot my phone and go back into recovery. I move the .zip to the root of the sdcard and i still cant see the file.
I notice a lot of files/folders missing in es file explorer. Its like as if im running a weird install that has all my files somewhere else but acting as if there are no files present.
Im trying to figure this out..

Ok, now I've got a similar question: how do I find my TWRP backups? When I hit 'restore' in recovery, it doesn't show anything anymore....

The problem I've run into was that it created the sdcard/0 folder that is only visible from computer. I moved everything back to sd root and it was fine and dandy.... UNTIL! I flashed a new ROM, and it's as if the flash that created the 0 folder assigned that as data/media, and when I wiped to flash a new ROM, all data on the SD was cleaned off. Anyone else run into this issue? BTW, moving everything 1 folder up takes forever!

It didn't help that I had about a thousand cached pictures... I deleted those once I saw they were transferring.

Cant find Gapps

I download CM 10 and the jb gapps for that. I flashed CM 10 fine but when i went to flash gapps they arent there. When i load up the rom i can see the gapps from the file manager but they dont show up when i navigate to the folder from recovery. Any ideas?

Make sure your recovery is up to date.
Where did you store them? If you put them in the intsd, check the 0 folder.

I just downloaded and checked that folder. It's always worked before on my other phones

Did you check with file explorer if built in to your Rom and see if it is still there?
Or maybe check on the computer with mass storage.
I think it is possible that got corrupted or deleted some how.

Yeah if I use file explorer I see it. I tried downloading it again to see if that's the problem but that didn't work

Try another recovery. And make sure the gapps are zipped. Recoveries wont read it if its not zip properly
