anybody else wondering why we have yet to receive 4.1.2 or at least a new radio update to unlock LTE?
I understand the need for the LTE radio, but does 4.1.2 offer anything over 4.1.1?

So you think that because tmobile uses band 4 lte and that is also one of att's bands that you can take your tmobile device to att and vice versa? Lol.
I can see why you would have such a condescending attitude in your replies.

I been thinking...instead of messing with all that and end up with a brick, why just not sell it on ebay and buy an actual Tmobile one or maybe trade with someone willing to. I would look at the selling price for an AT&T GS3 on ebay and how much would a Tmobile run and if it's not that much difference then pay the difference than end up with a possible brick. Plus I have read some forums where if you flash some things that are not meant for your phone you can even mess up the IME on your phone with no way to flash it back at the moment until someone comes up with a solution for it.
Not trying to be a jerk. Just a friendly reminder that this is not development related and needs to be in general or QA. I would repost there and report your thread to a moderator before the pitch forks come out.

When I put my friends note to t mobile it was the modem you had to flash , if your set on doing it , read a bunch on ways to do the note WITHOUT a custom Rom then find the same files you use in that ( the modem and if I remember right there was one other thing ) then go to the t mobile section in the sgs 3 thread and ask for help finding those files , but do a lot of reading first cause it would be a shame to brick your awesome phone

im looking into this as well, i had the att note and flashed the tmobile modem worked like a charm so now im looking to do same with s3. if i find anything ill let you know
I don't thonk it will work at all. Att's S3 is LTE, correct. Tmobiles is not. Two different hw radios used.

I seriously wouldnt count on it. The two networks run on different technologies. Im pretty sure the hw is different due to this.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Have you guys tried the radios in the dev section by wildchld? I'm not sure it will work either but maybe worth a try. It has a script that backs up current radio and you can revert back. Atleast on T-Mobile s3 it does. Just need to reflash the restore zip to go back to previous radio. Again try at your own risk. There's a huge chance you can brick your device.

I don't think it matters if the Gs3 from T-Mobile doesn't have LTE, I used to have my Galaxy s2 skyrocket with LTE running on T-Mobile 3G/4G off a GS2 Hercules Modem.

Then by all means, give it a shot. I have no problem being proven wrong on stuff like this!
Just remember that was a different phone. And tmobiles radio Im pretty sure was confirmed to NOT support LTE. So they are different.
I'm definately looking forward to hearing someones results after trying! Just do some research on the two radios, and make sure the sw modem is on the same partition for each phone. (I think it will be. But if its not you could end up with serious problems)
Good luck to whomever tries it!

Unless Tmo planned for 1.5 years ahead when they launched the Herc, I doubt we have the right hardware. Hopefully it does have support and Tmo did plan for the future but they're keeping it a secret . Because when they build the source for a ROM, they don't take out individual little things for certain devices.

Actually the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S III (SGH-T999) is NOT capable of it period. I have one. But i did read rumors that they may be making another S3, one with the exact same specs, but adding an LTE capable chip. T-Mobile went on the cheap side with their S3 and used the same chip as the ATT and other variants, but cut out the LTE capabilities. Kinda dumb but hey im not the CEO. lol.
But you are right, the Note 2 just needs a firmware update to enable LTE, also, the only other phone capable of T-Mobile LTE is the Windows Phone 8X.

On another note, does anyone else have lag in the Speed Test app when running the test?
When I hit "begin test" it gives me a ping of 58ms connected to either Phoenix or Tempe but then when the dial goes up it freezes then becomes sluggish again. This only happens to the download one (the upload one is a constant movement, no sluggishness).

I used to get only edge and almost no connection to 4G but now I get many bars, and all the time I see 4G
Eh, ask me If I care if any of you believe me.... I just wanted to let some of you know that WA has LTE, and I get all this BS....about trollong!
MY phone works, I got a text and asked tech support if my phone could get LTE, he checked and said yes, and that my phone was able to so we did the connection steps and that's all I give a $hit about! Bottom line, mine works and I really could care less if all of you don't want to try or believe... DON'T I don't lose anything and the traffic would be that much less! Ha Ha HA

Follow this guide. Works perfectly. I used my i-317 on T-Mobile for a while before I traded it and got great 4G speeds.

No, it permanently unlocks those bands, just like carrier unlocking a phone. Once it's done its done.

Yeah, pretty sweet stuff. And like I said, I got really good data speeds. Before I did the mod I was stuck on Edge, afterwards I was pulling down like 15+ Mbps download and 3+ upload speeds.

No. The T-Mobile version, T-889, is a dual cell phone capable of supporting 42.2 Mbps data transfer. The AT&T version, i-317, is not and is limited to 21.1 Mbps. However the i-317 is capable of using more than one LTE band whereas the T-889 is limited to just one.

OK so what how does using more than one LTE band benefit the end user?

No, you can flash other carriers roms. The thing is you have to make damn sure what you're flashing isn't gonna brick you. From a software standpoint all Note 2's are the same, for the most part. You have to be careful not to flash another carriers modem or you'll have no signal. If that happens just flash an AT&T modem and you're good. The kernel is pretty much the same. There might be some minor differences but nothing to worry about. Just read read read. All the info is in the OP, and if it's not just ask in that thread.

You can flash tmobile roms no problem. You'll also have access to wifi calling if you're carrier is tmobile. I'm using my at&t note 2 on tmobile. Lte and h+ on either carriers roms.
