Hey, Guys I had the CM10 Jelly Bean rom downloaded from Rom Manager (I know I shouldnt have used Rom Manager but too late). The rom was giving me problems of low call volume and mic, Losing signal and some other stuff so someone suggested me to use Dark Side Super Wipe and reinstall the rom. I did and Now the phone won't boot up it stays on the CM screen and the Nothing works in the recovery. I tried back and restore doesnt work, Tried installing super wipe again doesnt work. Reseting phone to factory doesnt work. So basically im stuck. I did my search couldnt find anything similar to my problem so I decided to post here. Next step I was going to take is put it on download mode and flash stock rom with ODIN but before I do that I wana get advice from you experts.
I made a short video describing the problem so please take a look to get a better idea of what im talking about. Unfortunately forums wont let me post the links because i have less than 10 posts so please type the title on youtube with my username

I will edit and post the link when I have 10 posts to save the hassle.

Yes, but you will need the .tar version to use with Odin.
Edit: Make sure it is for the T989 Hercules.

Yes i just flashed the recovery-cmw-hercules.tar with Odin and went into recovery but I still see these errors in recovery.
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Cant open /cache/recovery/log
E:Cant open /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
I haven't used cwm for awhile so I'm not sure what those errors mean. The next step is probably Odin to stock, unless anyone else has any ideas.

oh man, I got work in the morning and now im stuck with a non working phone How can I put it back to stock thru odin?
Try this:
http://galaxys2root.com/t-mobile-ga...-to-ics-stock-on-t-mobile-galaxy-s2-sgh-t989/
Be super careful and good luck!
Happened to me. Not sure why but the recovery got corrupted for whatever reason. What you need to do is reflash the recovery using ODIN, use the cwm image from the rooting guide.
Thankyou guys I fixed it. Reflashed recovery thru odin and reflashed stock rom. Still get the error in recovery but no issues so far..
For future reference when use the super wipe it wipes everything including your system partition
So basically there was no ROM installed on your phone

Search up twrp odin recovery for sgh-t989
I suggest using this instead of cwm recovery like all the others said. Twrp doesnt have the errors that cwm does twrp is the better recovery

This will help. It will show you how to get your phone back to stock so you can leave it be or start over if you decide. Whatever you do, follow the directions to the T and you should be fine. Good Luck.

I have some problem with 6.0.1.4 too.. seems my phone is bricked. trying a restore and it is stuck at restoring cache. I was using 5.0.2.7 and installed a couple 4.0.4 roms with no issues. Was wanting to install CM10 and was told I should get 6.0.1.4 Everything is falling apart now.. Might be able to go back to 5.0.2.7 via odin?

I just went back to 5.0.2.7 via odin and on reboot my last ROM is booting up.. It's like nothing has changed.. All of this is a bit sketchy as there is really no good info on how to do thing. Like upgrading from 5.0.2.7 CWM to 6.0.1.4.. why doesn't the CWM website give basic info on steps to use.
I also put ROM manager on my phone to see if that would update to 6.0.1.4 and it just seemed to get stuck.. so removed it
I tried putting 6.0 on from ODIN and that seemed to leave NO CWM on my phone at all.
Then was scared so tried flashing SGH-T989_TMB_1_T989UVKL1_CL799405_REV00.rar to restore my phone to original, and that didn't work. just stuck at startup screen.
Then I restored CWM 5.0.2.7 via odin.. thankfully it worked
Then I found a zip file for 6.0.1.4 so put that on my micro sd via and adapter on my computer. The installed it via 5.0.2.7. Thought I was set with 6.0.1.4 on my phone.. but then it didn't seem to work at all. Luckily could put 5.0.2.7 back on via odin and now Executioner 777 4.0.4 comes right up.
No idea what to do next.. or maybe do nothing as it is very hard to really know what is the best way. :s
6.0.1.4 has issues with our phone. 5.0.2.7 is fine with darkside scripts, twrp is good because you don't need the scripts.

I tried to download from the twrp website without success. Any idea where else I couldget it?
BTW, when I followed the instructions linked to in the second post, Odin sat there "initializing" for over 20 minutes before I aborted the process. I was able to flash cwm recovery without problems.
I'm stuck in a boot loop and need to do something. Tried flashing the stock ROM mentioned above without success via Odin.

OK. I'm going to re-load the drivers on the PC and reboot. Then start Odin. Seeing as CWM isn't currently working, I'll load it thru Odin. Now Reboot the phone and see if CWM works. If yes, install the ROM from there. If not, can I install the ROM from Odin?
EDIT: I have fixed it by continuely running ROM Manager to reinstall 5.2.0.7, I did fix permissions then installed 5.2.0.7 and it works. However still having problems rebooting and shutting down, but i will fix that later
So recently i updated CWM. Then i ran into some issues, is that when i tried to do a date wipe and a cache wipe to do a clean install it wipes the user data fine but freezes on wipe /cache. i rebooted and tried again and
Sidenote: when I try to reboot or shutdown it gets stuck at the "shutting down" pop up and never fully shuts down/reboots
I am a bit afraid to try anything more right now
EDIT: I tried to get it into download mode, to maybe try to use odin to flash the older version of CWM. Problem is that i can't get it to go into download mode, and can't find a odin flashable CWM
you dont have any backups? are you on any current ROMs?
If so,
download clockwork recovery or ROM manager from the playstore
open it up
Allow super user permissions
Scroll down to the very bottom you will see a option that says "all clockworkmod recoveries"
Make sure you are on a WIFI for a good download
Choose the CWM 5.0.2.7 version, that one is more stable.. i hate the new one its gay as hell lol
Let it download itll need a good minute, try not to do anything else. you may have to try to download a few times if it freezes just be patient
once it downloads you are good to go and you can flash any ROM
let me know if you have more questions just PM me..
Hit thanks if this helped!

I am running AKOP Oct 1st nightly. I have backups with Titanium, and an older one for Nandroid backup. I launched ROM manager and tried to install the 5.0.2.7 version but ROM Manager seems to freeze and not work. I kill the app but it doesn't launch properly and only shows the title. I have to take out the battery and reboot to be able to launch ROM Manager up again. I think i may need to find a way to boot into Download and use odin to flash a new CWM and maybe the stock rooted ROM and go from there. I have to agree about the new CWM it is kinda a step back, wish i had looked it up before update.
I am going to PM you but I always like to have this out there in case anyone else is having the same issue or has had it.
for me...sometimes i cant get into recovery/download mode is because
i have a phone case and both buttons arent fully pressed. and as for the tar recovery
Odin T989 tar its a stable version
i recommend using twrp for now for more stability

My problem is that I can't get it to boot into download mode, that Odin needs it to be in for it to function. Pressing the volume buttons just makes it go into CWM.
I got it to reinstall 5.2.0.7. It took awhile but it looks like its still working. Just tested it out and it works. Now i know to not update CWM. What are the other recovery options that might be better then CWM?

Same issue here on the Telus T989D. Any solutions without using cwm?
You can always try the manual method if your brave and familiar with the terminal. Go to Team Win's for our phone here: http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/101. Download the .IMG file and follow the instructions under Download - Recovery Image Method (using dd): Not hard but doublecheck your typing before hitting enter or you'll brick your phone.

One small problem with that.....
Hi guys. I'm having a somewhat similar issue, but it's a little more problematic than that. I was in mid-flash when I unfortunately learned that any attempt to work with the cache resulted in an immediate freeze-up. From what little of the log I've seen, it's trying to tell me that the cache partition is read-only. Any attempt to unmount, wipe, or work with the cache in any way will result in an immediate lock up. This is *after* wiping the system and data partitions. I have been able to get TWRP to start correctly twice in the last 40 times I've tried to boot up the phone.
Question: I noticed that TWRP has a button where you can enter a terminal command. I don't have adb set up yet on this machine, since reloading it. I would imagine the answer would be 'no', but is it possible to put a different recovery image on the sd card, then use TWRP's terminal button to issue the command to flash it, or would that make matters worse? Or am I going to have to set up adb and odin again on another machine and use that? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Side note: I should've stayed with CWM non-touch. :crying:
This worked for me:
reflash CWM, flash superwipe, install TWRP through goomanager.

EDIT: Wow I guess I didnt read the critical part where your stuck on the recovery boot screen so the attachment below wont help.... JUMP DOWN TO POST #21 AND FOLLOW IT TO RECTIFY THE GETTING STUCK ISSUE
Here, try this file guys. Someone over in the Jedi threads made a CWM flashable TWRP zip. You can thank me for bringing it to your attention if you want, but I did not create this ( I just clicked on the attachment paperclip for the thread and browsed through all the attachments because I knew I saw it somewhere in the development section...)
I also checked TWRP's own website and for the Hercules, v.2.3.1.1 is the latest version supported for our device so far but I only found 2.3.0.0 packed in a recovery flashable form.
Just flash it via CWM like any other zip and once its done it'll reboot your device automatically to system, so just reboot it back to recovery to make sure it worked. It did for me when I did awhile back with v.2.2.2.0 and I just used the below file to flash and update it in TWRP to v.2.3.0.0
Hope it helps

If you have either I guess it doesn't really matter. Just install/flash the attached file below just like you would any other rom via your recovery.
After it installs reboot back into recovery and you will see the old recovery replaced with the latest TWRP for the T989.

This is the part I don't understand. If my TWRP is stuck, how do I install/flash via my recovery?
Hi,
I was trying to flash CM onto my Tmobile Galaxy S2 and got into serious soup.
This phone is not unlocked. I thought it is not necessary.
I rooted the phone using instructions from galaxyroot website.
I did this cos i got my other Tmob Galaxy S2 rooted this way.
Afterwards, i downloaded CM cm-10.1.1-hercules and copied it to internal storage, and tried to update it from recovery.
Update completed successfully, but now the phone is stuck in a boot loop.
I have got this before when i did not clear all the data, but this time I am seeing these weird errors while wiping various data:
While doing "wipe data/factory reset" I get the below error:
Error mounting /sdcard/.android_secure!
Skipping format...
While doing "wipe dalvik cache"
E: Unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]
Also, i am using the CWM recovery 5.0.2.6 that i got from the above link, I could not get odin to flash any newer versions of CWMR.
Not sure if this is relevant, but just throwing it out there.
Please help!

You need to update your recovery to flash CM10.1.
I would suggest TWRP 2.6.1.0 from here:

Or you can look for a CWM 6xxx flash-able zip in the development threads.

How long did you wait on the splash screen? It does take a little while to boot at first.
If you waited more than a minute, there may be a problem with your phone and you might have to Odin back to stock.

meekrawb, thanks for your help! I was able to flash the new CWM but that does not seem to be working. When flashing cache, it says formatting cache for a long time and then reboots. Attempts to flash CM Rom using the new CWM did not help either. (Still bootlooping)
I was able to install the 4.1.2 from the md5 though. It is asking for the SIM which i dont have, but it is not stuck in a loop and seem to be responding. I will check with the sim in the evening and update. Thanks a ton for showing some light at the end of the tunnel!
Still I wonder why i cant flash CM on this phone. I have another phone of the same model on which i was able to flash without hassle.
Only difference i can think of is that this phone has an external sd card.

Hey everyone,
Was hoping I could get some help on this.
So I never rooted my T-Mobile Galaxy S3, it's totally stock, but I'm about to sell it and I went to do the factory reset in the settings and when it finally rebooted it rebooted into recovery... So then I went to wipe data/factory reset and it started the process but after the cache and data wipe then I get:
E:failed to mount /cache (Invalid Argument)
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:failed to mount /cache (invalid argument
E: can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
(i just typed that quickly while staring at the screen so please excuse any typos)
Now if I reboot it just never seems to finish booting (well I let it go for a solid 5 minutes and nothing...
I'm gonna bring it to work today while I wait for some responses but any ideas whats wrong with this thing?
Thank you!
hmm. If you can get into download moade, you could try flashing the official firmware through Odin and see if you could factory wipe in the stock recovery.
If that doesn't work, you could also try flashing a pre-rooted firmware with clockworks mod recovery and try wiping from there, then flash back official firmware through Odin.

Two Things
1. Make sure you grab the UVDMD5 file from Sammobile and then ODIN version 3.07. There's a nice tutorial on the Root 66 thread.
2. If you are selling, reset your flash counter with Triangle Away.
3. Do note the latest version of TWRP is unstable. If you are using TWRP then put at least 2.5 version. Given you are flashing via ODIN, its a moot anyway.

thanks for the info! i've got 37 seconds to go then i can download UVDMD5 haha so i'll report back later if it works.
also since i'm not (and have never been) rooted, I can't use Triangle Away, can I? i thought it was a root only app.
Yes its Root Only app. But then when you use Root66 image for UVDMD5, your phone will be rooted.

SOOOO...
Here's the story... I wasn't totally honest about just downloading the wrong file, I felt dumb and left out that I also flashed with Odin the "wrong file" (The Kernel file only from the T999UVDMD5 firmware download page) and it was just stuck in a permanent booting at the Samsung screen... So Anyway while waiting on the full firmware file to download, I went through recovery and wiped one more time (post flashing the kernel) and voila! Booted right up to the setup screen! So anyway pointing me in the direction of using Odin definitely worked, so again, thank you.
couple of things real quick. please dont leave info out. people who are trying to help are using their own time to do so, and it just mskes it harder in them.
and in the future, just downliad firmware from my firmware thread. i made it so you dont have to wait on such slow downloads.
