Well, it's just as the title of this thread says... I have a Tmobile's G2 (A.K.A. HTC Vision), which its 3g default bands are under 1700 / 2100. Here on my country, all the providers have their 3g services on 900 / 2100.... soo... Is it possible to Flash T-mobile G2's Radio, an set it to work on 3g 900/2100 mhz, so I can use the phone on 3G, instead of that annoying and extremely slow EDGE??
Or, is there a Custom ROM that has these settings on it? (I mean, a rom that automatically turns the 3g band to 900 instead of 1700)

No you can't, the radio bands are set in hardware (e.g. the physical antennae in the phone), not just in the radio software.
Why would you need to, the phone would use the 2100 band for it's 3G in your country? I took mine to Russia and it worked fine.
I don't think it's that simple. I only get edge on my T-mobile G2 using the Rogers network.

Rogers doesnt use 1700 or 2100 so that is to be expected. The original posters country has a 2100 3G, I would suspect he just isn't in a coverage area.

I don't think it works like that, I think it needs both bands to work. If it was that simple then surely they wouldn't bother making different phones for different markets (e.g. T-Mobile US vs Europe/Asia)
That may be...I'm only speaking of my experience in Russia, they have 2100 only 3G and mine worked without the second band.
Just to add, T-Mobile US use the 1700 MHz band for the uplink, and 2100 MHz for the downlink. So presumably the phones (i.e. G2, as opposed to the Desire Z) are physically setup like that too.
Oh I thought Rogers uses 2100. Either way, no worky.... sad.

Ah, I think I'm following you, because Russia exclusively uses 2100 for up and down my phone worked, but since his county has a seperate uplink and a downlink band it won't?

Yeah I think that's it. I don't know *that* much about this myself, just picked up on a few discussions about the G2/DZ on here over time.

I think the "problem" is that the G2 uses exclusively "Band IV" for 3G (i.e. 1700/2100 split), but somewhere like the OP's Dominican Republic uses Band VIII (900).
What the OP needs is a Desire Z, which operates on Band I (2100) and Band VIII (900).
Russia appears to use Band I (2100) as well. Maybe a G2 can partially work there then ?
Rogers uses something else, Band II (1900) and Band V (850).
As I say, I'm don't know that much about this myself, so if anyone else can help clarify/confirm/deny, then that'd be great.

Via Google, I dug up another interesting piece of info.
Although it's not on HTC's official spec list on their site, on T-Mobile's support pages it says that the G2 does Band I as well. Which would explain how it would have worked in Russia. That's not going to help the OP's problem though.

Mine worked very well in Moscow, I was pleasantly suprised, it was kind of a bonus to be able to get on the web, I wasn't expecting much.
I don't understand why the manufactures don't provide phones with penta-band 3G support like the Nokia N8. Maximize profit when producing 2-3 same phones with different frequencies maybe? I mean quad-band GSM has been supported for pretty much all of the current phones, why not 3G bands as well?

you'll get the screen with the imei, phone no, network and a button that says "Run Ping Test" at the top
press your "menu" button
when the menu pops up, it'll have 6 options, select radio band, view sim address book, view fixed dialling numbers, view service dialling numbers, get PDP list, and More.
Choose the first one "Select Radio Band" then select the appropriate band.
Not sure if it helps in this situation, but I found it in a thread about gaining 3G in Europe on the N1

I read from one topic in TMo's official G2 forum that the G2 will work on a country with only a UMTS band of 2100 both for up and down (the answer is from TMo employee, an engineer)... hope you'll be enlightened. I bought an unlocked G2 and I researched extensively before purchase. Im from the Philippines which only supports the 2100 band for 3G. I Know and Im 100% positive that the phone will support the 3G band here in my country. cant wait for my G2 (arriving tomorrow)
btw... coverage is vital. if the 3G signal is weak or non-existent in your area, you'll be switched to edge for data on your phone (naturally).. good luck

That's the Band I thing that I was talking about, that T-Mo shows on their spec sheets (but HTC doesn't seem to list, for some reason).
I think the G2 will do 3G if any one of the two bands are supported by the country. Correct me if Im wrong

There is nowhere in the world that uses 2100 in both directions. Band 1 is 1900 UP, 2100 DOWN.
In all cases, your phone must be able to upload on the frequencies that the towers listen on, and download on the frequencies that the towers transmit on.
I.e., north america vision transmits on 1700 or 1900, receives on 2100.
Tmobile website listed 850mzh umts, anyone tried with att sim yet? or we need to unlock the phone first?

so this phone does supports 850/1900 3g too!
Well this is good news at least... I guess this phone is the lube that will make the brutal takeover a bit less painful.
It passed the FCC with AT&T 3G support, there is NO question that it has AT&T 3G support.

So did another recent (in the past 6 months) T-Mobile phone, the G2x. The specs said it etc. I wasn't until after the phone was released and some people actually tried it that they found out it didn't work.
Same caution should go with this device, until someone puts a bloody AT&T sim in it and gets a testable connection treat the specs, web and box with a grain of salt.

Sorry again part of the confusions surrounding the G2X was a possible misstating by several blogs. http://pocketnow.com/android/lg-p999-passes-fcc-is-t-mobiles-g2x for example.
In the end though even if the FCC tests the phone to support those frequencies, the manuf lists the support and t-mob lists the support, until its tested by multiple users I wouldn't believe it. Sorry but I have been burned by to many manuf lies (I own a captivate need I say more) and too much incorrect information.

That model number is for a different LG G2X that T-Mobile didn't sell.
The T-Mobile Galaxy S II is IDENTICAL to the Telus Galaxy S II X - it has 850/1700/1900 WCDMA bands. You can stop the skepticism.

Ahhh so if they are identical then I presume someone tested it on that one?
Specs schmecks like I said until tested its rumored to be supported. I'd love to see confirmations from a reputable source that they have taken an AT&T sim and popped it in. Until that happens people should be cautious is all I am saying. Don't buy a phone and get locked into a contract for a spec thats unproven. Just because the hardware support is there doesn't mean the software can even use it.
I'm not skeptical of that which is proven but I am cynical of that which is quoted without proof. It' not you, or anyone else in this thread but after a years of dealing with telco and manufacturer broken promises, half truth's and specs that are just this side of outright lies...

That is true, they speculated that the G2x COULD have AT&T 3G but didn't "unlock" the feature. There is only one true way to figure this all out, that is to unlock the phone and try an AT&T 3G sim in it

My captivate listed on the box it had a gps, oh its got one allright but it aint worth a crap.
Just because the box says it has it doesn't mean it functions well. It just means its present. It may drop a AT&T 3g call every second due to a software bug that may never get fixed.
Then again it may have a better tuned antenna than the AT&T SGS II and get better reception. We just dont know. We know what the marketing material says but they doe come out and say oops sometimes.

How many bands for GSM, HSDPA and LTE does the T-Mobile Galaxy S4 (M919) have? Are they the same bands as the International S4 LTE (I9505)?
Based on the wikipedia page for Samsung Galaxy S4, the model I9505 has more LTE bands than the T-Mobile M919 version, is that completely true and technically proven?
Most of the websites state that the M919 and the I9505 has the same bands for all GSM, HSDPA and LTE.
I appreciate if someone can lead me to the ultimate answer.

Tmobile uses AWS for 4g LTE which requires 2100/1700 frequency. The GT-i9505 only supports 2100mhz i believe, which is not enough.
I think the GT-i9505 supports one of the several frequencies that Tmobile uses for HDSPA, so HDSPA coverage may be a bit spotty with the phone. This was referenced off the top of my head, but I had done some research online about this before as I had similar questions as you.

I9505 lacks the 1700MHz LTE band which is needed in T-Mobile LTE.

Hey so looking at the wiki that you guys posted up there it says following for the tmobile version: 700 MHz (Band 17), CLR, AWS, PCS, IMT, IMT-E
now i somehow got my hand on one of these devices in europe for rather cheap and totally new, so im confused now what these CLR, AWS, PCS, IMT, IMT-E are, does any of these stand for any other than the 700mhz band? like 1700/1800mhz? or in other words, is it possible to get lte to work in europe with the tmobile usa s4? Can the modem perhaps be flashed with an i9505 one and than get the additional bands or is the hardware actualyl that different (as in antennas and amplifiers)?
Its not really a dealbreaker for me as LTE in my country is quite some time away but still, would like to know.

In simple words, the LTE bands are (not in order): Band 1 (2100), Band 2 (1900), Band 4 (1700), Band 5 (850), Band 7 (2600), Band 17 (700), so we have the LTE bands available for the T-Mobile version: 700, 850, 1700, 1900, 2100 and 2600.

sorry for asking it again, but that basically means the tmobile version has most bands that are used enabled? just have to figure what bands are being used in my country... thanks really

No, you can't flash a I9505 rom to a M919 device, if you do, you will brick it. The best option for you to get 800 and 1800 frequencies is to go for the GT-I9505, it's the Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE version, and it has the following bands for LTE Cat 3 (800 / 850 / 900 / 1,800 / 2,100 / 2,600 MHz). Yes, it seems that the I9505 has LTE bands for each region, it's not dedicated for America (North, Central and South), it also support Europe and Asia, while it doesn't contain most bands for a specific region, it's a world phone, unlucky doesn't fully support T-Mobile 4G UTMS network (1700/2100), but still a good option for those who travel to other continents.

Flashing just the modem doesn't work either?
I haven't tried flashing modems into another devices that don't correspond to their own. I can't help you with that answer at this time

i asked that because i have an att atrix, on which its possible to flash european modems without a problem, thanks for your time man, i hope someone will try this and it works
Question...are all those other things i've been hearing about other ppl successfully getting 4g reception after doing something to either with the aws band's, or to the software true? does anyone know for sure? i'm very thankful for any input, as i've been hearing so many conflicting things when it comes to the i9505 and getting 4g service with t-mobile, i just want a proven answer :/

I bought my S4 T-mobile (SGH-M919) in USA. And it is fine working in Spain with 4G. But when i have upgraded it to Marshmallow then only works with HSPA(H+) as better. Change baseband? i am not sure to do it...mmmm
So I spent all night going through threads looking for more information on this (probably had 20 tabs open ), and just want to make sure I understand everything correctly.
As I understand, they are moving the DC-HSPA+42 from AWS (1700/2100) to HSPA+21 (1900), but because there is no room for dual channel PCS can only support HSPA+21.
Moving HSPA+42 from AWS to PCS will free up the 1700/2100 spectrum for LTE support, which ultimately they will phase out support for HSPA+ on AWS and only have HSPA+ on PCS (or minimal HSPA+42 on AWS).
So how does this affect me and you who only have a T-Mobile S3 that some of us were told *WOULD* support LTE, but it's obvious now it won't .... well sounds to me like we are getting the short end of the stick. I've already noticed since LTE popped up in my area that my speeds have gone from 15-25Mbps to 5-15Mbps if that.
Can anybody please confirm what I said above is correct and I am understanding all of this correctly?
Does anybody know of any apps that you can use to see what frequency the phone is using to be able to tell if you're on PCS or AWS? Or maybe an app that shows which version of HSPA+? I tried a couple on the app store but most of those only would tell me UMTS(WCDMA)....
I was very happy with the phone when I first got it but now I almost feel shafted by T-Mobile who didn't add LTE support for the ORIGINAL G3 they released...which you can no longer purchase from them. Same specs and all, just with LTE support ... I mean come on wtf t-mobile.
You sound pretty close on most of it. I'll try to offer a better answer when I'm back on my computer where I can reference a few things a lot easier.

Search as I may I can't find anything about getting aws ... Band 4 with both 1700 and 2100 to work on my x800 specifically for wind!
Seems it has 2100 which isn't enough to connect.....
So...... Can 1700 be activated at all?
Or is this antenna simply not available for this device?
Someone has to have run into this problem or I may be SOL with this phone.
Side note... Same issue with my Z30. New phone just not working out as smoothly as planned!

According to Kimovil: http://www.kimovil.com/en/where-to-buy-letv-s1-pro-64gb this phone does not have a support for 1700MHz.
If your phone is X800 US version, then it should have band 4 AWS 1700/2100. I'm sure Wind uses much the same frequencies as Telus, and I can get Telus 4G LTE for voice, text and data no problem. My seller (Hong Kong Goldway on Aliexpress) specifically listed band 4 AWS, otherwise, I wouldn't have bought the phone.

This is the US version..,.. yeah the add and email queries did list band 4 but stopping in to Wind to try a test sim it didn't get the 1700 half of the band.... Seems it matches the specs of the 1st reply link.....
Reading other successful connections making me wonder if it's a variant version or if the antenna is present and just needed to be activated. .,... Or could be..,..
So if yours came that way only makes this more puzzling....
