hello guys,
I'm new to the XDA forums and a bit of a noob. I have a rogers S3 and I'm currently running the latest CM 10.1 nightly from today. I love cyanogenmod and really want to try out a custom kernel for a better combo. I'm having trouble finding clear info on custom kernels available and compatible with my device and rom. I was very interested in the KT747 kernel by ktoonsez because of all the governors, schedulers, oc and uv options, etc. I don't know if that is compatible with cm10.1 and if it is where I can find the right version....I tried searching the forums to no avail so decided to start a new thread. Somebody please help steer me in the right direction.
Im pretty sure I saw people on rogers and people on cm10 using it. You can go to his thread and just search for cm10 rogers. I'm sure you'll find some info unless someone who knows for sure can answer you.
Or try posting the question in his thread....if you haven't already

Thank you. Is there anyway you could post the link where I can get the kernel. I don't want to be one of those annoying people, but I really have no idea where to find the right version of kt747 that will be compatible and what version I even need. Thank in advance.
yep
I recommend using Tasks Underwear Kernel for CM.

Thanks for the recommendation, but what are the features of that kernel? How has it been working for you? Also how does it differ from the KT747 kernel?

I'm still a bit confused because when I go to that thread, there are 3 downloads available. AOSP version for ICS and JB 4.1, and there is a third one that says JB 4.2 but it doesn't specify whether or not it is touchwiz or AOSP. I'm running CM10,1 which is android 4.2.2, so I do I download the JB 4.2 file?? I'm sorry to be annoying I just don't want to screw up my phone so I want to be clear before I do it. Thank you in advance.

Ok so Im a little new to this hole rooting and flashing stuff and I've been reading around that the Ktoonsez KT747 Kernel has amazing battery life, even if you OC. So with this being said, im currently running SlimBean 2.7 but it doesn't say anywhere if it will support this kernel. Also can't find on Ktoonsez thread either. Maybe its me im blind when it comes to finding stuff. Thanks for help! If its necessary, I wouldnt mind flashing the CM10 M2.

Well i just loaded the jellybean 10.9.2012 and it wouldn't boot like it should so ima try a different one if i can get it to boot
[FIXED] I flashed the wrong one i did the one said above instead of the one that had the att in the name of the kernel, so its flashed and booted so i will get back with you to tell you how it goes.
[WORKS] It works like a charm thanks for all of the help.
Try this kernel http://goo.im/devs/imoseyon/d2att/lk_aosp_jb_tmo-v1.4.zip
It's imoseyons kernel. He is an amazing dev. I only use this. I have used ktoonez idk why I don't use it all the time. It says this kernel is for tmo the but trust me it works the same. He is a modified version of interactive designed for the s3. I get EXTREMELY great battery life. Go over to original dev thread over in the tmobile thread and look for lean kernel.
Use the kernel I included only if your on a jelly Bean rom.
Transmitted from my GALAXYSIII running Jelly Bean. XDA premium
KT747 can be found HERE, in the Original Development forum. There are variants of the kernel that will work for several current versions of Android.

Thanks. I didn't notice it said for all AOSP roms lol derp.
I'm also very interested in flashing new kernel but I know it uses updated BT and WiFi drivers. Is there a link to the OEM drivers somewhere? I'd rather have them before I flash the kernel just in case.

Stock AT&T Kernel - includes root and the default BT and WIFI drivers....just in case . Alternatively, you can simply backup the /system/lib/modules folder which contains these drivers.
I've gone to teh AOKP site but nothing is there. Just says read on about this build....
Link: I<I would post the link to the aokp build but new users can't>
Anyone able to help me find this?
Also, I've hear Rom Manager is unsafe to use for Rom Flashing so what about Rom Toolbox Pro?
I still have not installed my first Rom and I just want it to go well.
Also if anyone can point me to any other files needed for Build 40 AOKP I'd be greatful.
Cheers.
Make sure to read up before flashing a ROM. Make sure it is for your device.
If you have a sprint SGS3 go to original dev section and look for AKOP.

Ok I found the AOKP thread. I am not sure how to fully go about this. Is there a firmware I need for this? Also, could someone explain firmware to me as in do you need it for Roms? Do firmwares just change speed? What is their purpose?

Don't mean to sound like an a-hole but do a little search.
Since latest CM 10.1 and AOKP moved on to a new 3.4 kernel, is there any custom overclocked kernels ready for those builds?
Thank you! :good:
Seeing as it has only just been released, not yet. I'm sure developers are working on making those features compatible ASAP.

I will update this post when KT747 is released. I suggest users of other kernels do the same to report availability!:good:
Latest Verizon Lean kernel (v3.0r2) is working on AT&T. Only link is posted in lean kernel thread on Rootz.

Confirmed. It is working and is version 3.4.10. Can be downloaded from imoseyon's page here.
Edit: feels a bit laggy. Will go back to a stock CM10.1 kernel.

Running it now on my CM 10.1. Thanks!
BMS is being worked on. He said there may be a test kernel out soon
Ktoonsez also stated that he may have a test kernel available soon.
Underwear has been updated to 03-19-2013. It's got OC, morphic colors, faux sound patch, if I'm not mistaken.
KT is out. We are back in business!

I was wondering if there were some kernels that were compatible with the stock rom. If there are could you list some popular ones? I've tried to research but couldnt find anything. Guess i suck at searching.........
Go the original development sections and look for threads labeled kernel and read their OPs to see if they are compatible with touchwiz (stock.) Flashing a kernel requires being root also.
Aside from root access, you will also need a custom recovery.
I sugest the KT kernel is has a nifty app that gives you a lot of tweaks

+1 to ktoonz kernels for being user friendly.
If your going to flash anything always follow the steps to not brick your device.
Always make a backup whether you use cwm, or tw always boot into it and backup and then your not stuck with something you don't want and you can magically go back on time to your stock ROM.
I personally think if your going to bother changing kernels its almost as easy as changing ROMs. Either way you will have to root and that's more of a hassle than flashing a ROM.
Goodluck.
Pin it to Win it.

Sorry to play ya down as being a noob but you gotta assume the worst sometimes...
Im getting some extreme batterylife/speed with thebfaux 17m kernel for my touchwiz based rom... defiantly worth looking at if you are oc/uv savvy

my bad
I am looking for a stable ROM with tethering capabilities. I would also not mind something with a flashy UI. Do you guys have any recommendations for this?
If you try cyanogenmod, make sure you're updated to the latest firmware before flashing. You need the newest bootloader.
It sounds like you make be interested in AOKP roms since they have many unique features as opposed to pure vanilla android.

Currently I am running JB 4.1.1 I believe 4.1.2 is out but AT&T hasn't released the update yet so I have not been able to do it yet. I mean I think I could flash it, but I would rather just flash something different rather than flashing an update like that....

No one can tell you what is right for you. You have to go into development and read each and decide
Back up, flash, no like, flash another.
