[Q] No IMEI - no baseband - Tried almost everything - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi everyone.
As i read on so many posts, my SGN one night just drop the signal. The day after, still with no signal, i checked that had no IMEI and unknown baseband.
I had tried so many "solutions" for this to work and still nothing.
It came (when i bought it, second handed from ebay) with slimbeam rom installed. I did nothing weird to it, just simply drop signal and lost IMEI and baseband. I flashed 4.0.4, 4.2.2 from google developers web, i changed the radio for a DOCOMO one, but still nothing.
As my english is not too good, i attached a photo that explain how is my phone actually.
Please, any help will be much appreciatted as i got $300 spend on this Galaxy Nexus.

Why would you use a docomo radio? Is it a docomo phone? Have you tried flashing any other radios?

Check to make sure the contact pins that read the sim card are not damaged.

One of the solutions i've read says that with this radio the signal get fixed, but didn't work

My problem isn't with the sim card, it's with no IMEI and baseband at all. Thanks anyway.

I think i just killed it.
I was trying another "solution" i found on the web, and now the phone don't turn on.
I installed an APK from the market called GSII_REPAIR and after it says to reboot the phone, now it doesn't turn on.
I read that this app is for the galaxy S2 but appear on the search for my problem's fix.

First I would put it in odin dl mode and flash stock, that should get the phone to boot again. I understand your english isn't that good but can you explain what you have tried. Im basically wondering if you have tried to play with the nv_data.bin file in the /factory directory as this may be able to make the phone get some functionality back.
The reason for the the possible softbrick is cause the gsII repair was probably deleting and replacing the wrong files ... I would probably say that this is a corrupt EFS directory and would work on the techniques out there to repair that ... either that or you have the same problem I have where it is a hardware issue and there is no real fix possible .... One method that may work the best is to try and use QPST and manually input your IMEI into nv_data.bin file ... many possibilities I just don't know what you have tried

I try to turn it on ODIN mode, and recovery mode and doesn't turn on at all.
In the same post that i saw the app, say that i can do it manually by messing with those files (nv_data.bin) but at the end mentions a nv_data file that i havent saw on the factory folder. because of that i try with the app.

so if you can't get it into odin or bootloader you have either hard bricked your phone or the battery is dead ... usually you can still get it to trickle charge if you plug it in ... if the nv_data.bin file was not in the /factory partition then i would think in some way the EFS has been corrupted or you weren't using a file manager with root access since the file is a hidden file ... biggest thing now is getting it to boot which I can only think of flashing through the bootloader or odin but i don't know everything that is possible ... someone else would probably have to help you if you can't get into either of those

[Q] Corrupt EFS partition or Hardware issue

So first lets start off by explaining the whole issue.
I have a Verizon galaxy nexus that has recently made contact with water. I let the phone dry out for a day then tried to revive it with no success so I decide to tear it down and clean it. After tearing it down and cleaning it I now get it to boot fine.
Upon boot I have zero cell service and the phone tell me the baseband is unknown as well as all of the phone information in the phone information section. I then proceeded to try and flash the basebands back onto the phone through recovery. This lead to a failure which the recovery TWRP gave a status 7 error, which would lead to the conclusion of corrupt EFS data. I have looked at the factory partition and the nv_dat.bin is there but from what I have read there should also be a .nv_dat.bak file there which I cannot see. I then went to use QPST to try and edit the nv_data.bin file but the problem is that the water has damage the usb port and there is no data connectivity through usb anymore. From what I have see through multiple post is that if you remove the nv_data.bin file the phone should use a generic IMEI which does not happen. This leads me to believe it is a hardware issue which is not impossible.
From this point I took my stock backup file and pulled the nv_data.bin from the data/radio directory and placed it in my /factory directory on the phone to see if this would resolve the unknown phone information, which it did not. There aren't to many more options that I have found to try and resolve this issue other than buying a parts phone. I was wondering if anyone had another Idea to try before I do this. I thought about trying to use mobile odin to flash back stock but I don't know if this would really help from what i have seen, unless someone else thinks this could help.
Thanks in advance to everyone ... from what I have searched I can't seem to find anyone with this same issue
Sounds to me like its time for a new device.

Thanks for the input at least that is what i was thinking ... just to add i guess another issue i found was that even without a sim card in the device does the same thing, without giving the no-sim card response when booted

[Q] Phone doesn't connect to GSM

Hello.
So my N7100 doesn't connect to mobile network. No voice calls, text messages or mobile internet. Wifi works just fine, although signal seems to be a little weaker (maybe just my imagination).
What I did and how it happened:
I got sick of Samsung being assholes and not pushing out software updates, so I decided to flash some custom ROM. I choose CM, because they had that "one click installation", so I didn't have to do a lot of work. After a week of using CM I decided that it sucks and wanted back my original android with all gimmicks from Samsung, mostly because battery life with CM was terrible, not even one day. And that's when everything went downhill. I downloaded and installed firmware for Baltic region, because I live here and I bought my phone here. From that moment my phone stopped being phone and evolved into wifi only tablet. After being very pissed and trying to flash couple different roms I gave up. Found my phones original box user manual and other papers. It turns out that my phone is made for Hungary region. So shop where I bought it must have imported wrong models (most likely cheaper for bigger profit). Flashing original for Hungary made firmware doesn't resolve this issue.
Guys, I really need help. I just want to return to stock - original firmware and reset flashing counter. Please help, and if possible in layman's terms...

Press *#06# and see if your EMEI is fine... If it says something like 000000000049 it seems to be bugged and you can try this solution:
I flashed the firmware N7100XXDMF2_N7100OLBDMD2_XME using ODIN PC and follow the below using root explorer:
- copy /efs/ to the sdcard
- delete /efs/
- reboot (after reboot I got the yellow recovery mode window floating over, no lock screen, and pressing power button turns the phone off directly)
- /efs/ will be autocreated again. copy the efs folder from the sd card to / (root explorer will tell you that the folder already exists and it will merge them)
- reboot
PS: I did not have an /efs/ backup before applying the above.

I saw from another post. Im going to try this too since Im having the same problem as you.
Find your ROM here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=GT-N7100&pcode=CHE#firmware I selected Chile Entel, but you can choose your country and company, it is the original ROM and it should fix our problem, Im downloading the ROM by now.
To use Odin, just put your phone in download mode (vol up/down + home + power) and then plug in to your PC, open Odin and at "PDA" select your ROM, then put start and just wait a few minutes and it should be working again...
After this, you should make a back up of your EFS file using a root explorer and then flash with any ROM you want (Im trying Ditto 3, it seems to be a cool jelly bean) and after this flash, you should put your new EFS file... Just the problem that Im facing is how to put this backup since the EFS is a folder being readed all the time, so there should be a program to do this, but I cant figure this out yet.
My phone doesn't have any IMEI any more. "null/null" is value given by my phone after requesting IMEI. I already flashed original ROM, problem is still here.
About /efs/ I could backup it with "File Manager"app from google play, but I can't delete it, because it is in read only.

Somehow you will have to access to edit it and you will be able to solve that problem... Otherwise go to technical service.

In order to delete /efs/ you have to be rooted, when you flash factory rom you loose root privileges.

After flash factory rom is easy to make root again hehe.. Anyways keep reading and maybe you will find another solution, you can't be the only one who had that problem... Good luck my friend.

[Q] Need help going back to stock, there's some complications with my phone now.

I've spent all day yesterday trying to fix this problem. I've downloaded gigs upon gigs of stock rom files, saw a ton of youtube videos etc. Still nothing.
So here's the deal. I had Cyanogenmod 10.2 on my phone for a while now and I've always had problems, although a nice rom but too many crashes, battery drainage etc. So I wanted to go to stock but before doing so I thought I'd give Cyanogenmod 11 a try and see how that works, which turns out to be worse and I lost all phone signal and data, pretty much no service. So now I tried to go back to stock for good. I downloaded the stock 4.1 something rom file, odin and tried going back which didn't work cause I would keep getting a fail sign on odin. By the way I tried different versions of Odin since that was suggested to me by my friend and that didn't do anything either. Then I read a blog about using Samsung Kies on my PC, now after I did that I got a message on kies that my phone encountered an error. Now when I turn my phone on I get a message "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
Is my phone bricked for good? Can I go back to stock? I'm not sure what else to do here now. Why is it hard finding a stock unrooted 4.3 rom for my phone on the internet? I also can't use that clockwork recovery mode either, it just gives me the message "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again" when I try going into that to even try and install Cyanogenmod again so I can use my phone until I find a solution to going back to stock.
Help ploxkthxbai.
Edit: Ok so I just installed clockworkmod recovery through odin and I was able to install a rooted stock rom through the recovery, but now the problem I'm encountering is that it gets stuck on the AT&T logo when booting up the phone. Installing stock rom through odin still gives me the fail message.
Edit 2: I tried installing a stock unrooted rom through recovery and it gave me some error but now the phone goes passed the AT&T logo after that however I have no service now. How do I fix that and how should I go about installing stock unrooted rom since Odin gives me the fail message?

The easiest way to fix it is to take it to a best buy store they will flash stock 4.3 on it free of charge, this is the advice that is now given by Samsung. Alternatively you could get the phone jtag'ed or while it says firmware upgrade encountered an issue it is in download mode and you can flash things with Odin. You can attempt to flash a recovery image to see if you can access recovery and flash enewman17's stock restore from the development section. You can also attempt to hard brick it with Odin by flashing stuff that has pre 4.3 bootloaders then use the debrick method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2549068.
I recommend you try the best buy method first, then try to flash a recovery, then try to hard brick it and recover it and lastly to get it jtag'ed.
If you can't get it recovered after intentionally hard bricking it you haven't lost anything you were still going to need a jtag service but it might work.
Under the advice of Samsung I tried the same thing you did and they told me to take it to best buy to get it fixed, instead I hard bricked it then used the sd card method to debrick it. Which I had already done twice. But that method doesn't work for everyone I was lucky 3 times and had to jtag once(flashed the i747m bootloader bad idea had to jtag) since then I have quit pushing my luck and only flash things I know are safe for the phone.

Go to settings, about device, what does it show for baseband? Then go to settings, status does the imei number for the phone show up, say unknown or 0? If it shows unknown for the baseband and imei you simply need to flash a modem. If it shows the correct baseband but your imei shows as 0 your imei has become corrupt search for imei restore the fresh a ton of threads about it most people loose lte after an imei restore but there is a fix for that too. If you are having problems with wifi try flashing a kernel.

I just did that and my phone is now hard bricked. Won't turn on at all, won't vibrate or anything. It's completely dead. Tried the sd card method and that's not working so far. So I need a jtag service for this. Not even sure what that is right now until I look that up after this reply. I did look into those usb jigs but it seems that's only if it's soft bricked.
Edit: Trying the sd card method on the 4th try worked. Now back to fixing this.

What did you flash that hard bricked your phone? A modem should have been pretty safe to flash. I have flashed a bunch of different ones the worst that ever happened to mine was no service or poor service.
What exactly still needs fixing? No service still? Did you check imei and baseband? Intact, unknown or 0? Will be available till about 7am off and on.

Oh man, I might be sounding like a total noob by now but damn I've never had problems installing custom roms and going back to stock before.
So I flashed a modem that was for my phone and carrier in some thread here and that hard bricked my phone when I rebooted my phone. I tried the sd card method and in the end that worked and I could start my phone but no service or anything which at this point is the least important thing. In that thread of the sd card method it mentions how to flash a bootloader to make the phone not require the sd card (which was requiring it on my phone to start up the phone) and now it's hard bricked by trying that, and the sd card is not making it boot into download or recovery mode at all now.
If only I had enough to buy another phone I would seriously punch this phone repeatedly until nothing was left. I've spent like 2 days on this phone now with about 5 hours not counting sleep of time away from fixing this phone.

Are you certain the battery is charged? Should be a question that should be un asked but it does happen. The bootloader you flashed you're sure was for your model and carrier(AT&T vs canadian)? If you flashed the wrong model bootloader then you will need to jtag, If not when I was debricking my phone I had to do a battery pull after each time I wanted the phone to boot with the debrick SD. Are you doing that I don't want you to feel stupid but if you have a lack of sleep and are frustrated simple things can be overlooked. My thought is that If the sd method worked before it should work now especially if you are using the same debrick image. Out of curiosity what model is your phone and carrier?
I wish you the best of luck and hope all works out.

Yeah the battery is charged, I've tried the battery on another phone as well. I do pull out the battery and all that, and yeah I know simple things can be overlooked. Which is why I tried again today. Oh well I guess it's just one of those things that just won't work for whatever reason. Anyways, my model is SGH-I747 for AT&T. I even made sure that none of it was the SGH-I747M. Oh well jtag is what it is, I guess I rather pay than have to deal with this problem. Only thing is that I've never done that before and so many people are offering it on ebay and I don't know who to go with, I mean I'm sending my phone to someone with no real guarantee or anything that I will get my phone back. And yeah there's user feedback but that could also mean a thousand fake accounts giving good reviews or friends and family giving good reviews for 1 penny sales. Anyone you suggest I go with? Either on ebay or out of ebay? Thanks for all the help btw.
Everything seems to be going downhill for me right now. My computer will not recognize any Micro SD or SD cards. It will recognize pro duo cards but not any SD or Micro SD card. I tried all my Micro SD cards and SD cards today and none of them are being detected although they do show up in MiniTool Partition Wizard. I even bought another card reader and it's the same thing. So now my computer is being a twat about this. I think I might as well just listen to some Linkin Park and slit my wrists to end it all. But before I do that, anyone know why my PC won't recognize SD and Micro SD all of a sudden?

[q] flashed tot now no efs!!!

I have the efs info saved to my pc from a previous backup, but cant get it into the phone.. Anyone with some info on how to maybe sideload it via adb sideload in stock recovery???
This is my last ditch effort. Small back story: I somehow wiped EVERYTHING on my G2. EFS partition, ESN, data, SIM info., everything with dialer codes. All of my network information reads "unknown". I tried many methods from here on the forums to get this data back and it turns out I have lost my EFS partition- DNA for the network? I sent it to LG to get it fixed, having done a hard reset and leaving no trace of root. They sent it back without even asking and did no repairs. The note said "board bent". WTF?? How does the user bend the main board, especially when I never opened it? They voided my warranty and ripped off my IMEI/MEID sticker from the back of the phone.
Anyways, I am here with a brick. No network still. Here is what I have done:
1) .tot method to ZVC. Several more times... once to ZV7 where I lost touch capability. Luckily saved my arse with a micro->usb cable and a mouse.
2) attempted to root with ioroot25. Failed because the phone WILL NOT find recovery mode. adb, voldown+pwr then again from power off, and apps are unable to force the phone into recovery mode. I assume it is possible that my recovery mode is deleted?
3) Would have tried all of these "rewrite your efs/imei/etc" things but I can't do any without root. Can't root without recovery, can I?
4) Spent the last two weeks scouring the internet for a fix and going back to my Epic 4G temporarily.
Please help me, has anyone seen this before? Can anyone help me fix it? I am to the point where I would pay to have it fixed. Any experts out there? XDA has yet to let me down... I just need to know if I can fix it or if it is a brick so I can go searching for an old Sprint GS3.
Thanks all,
baublitz
That is strange, no recovery ?
So phone completely off, power and volume up doesn't put you into stock recovery?

Please help me, has anyone seen this before? Can anyone help me fix it? I am to the point where I would pay to have it fixed. Any experts out there? XDA has yet to let me down... I just need to know if I can fix it or if it is a brick so I can go searching for an old Sprint GS3.

Have you tried the recovery method detailed in this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142
Assuming you can get the file system partitions outlined in this thread to appear on a Linux PC, you should be able to write the partition images here http://downloads.codefi.re/autoprime/LG/LG_G2/LS980/Stock_Firmware/zvc_partitions and recover your phone (particularly if you have an EFS backup).

I will try it out and update you. Did not try it since the 1st condition of the post said that your phone ought to be rooted, which I am not.

Rooting doesn't matter for purposes of that recovery method; the reason it is mentioned is because rooting can cause you to get into the soft-bricked situation if you happen to take an over-the-air (OTA) update while you're rooted.

Help with Tmobile S3 T999

First I want to apologize for posting again couldnt figure out how to upload picture, As I stated my friend rooted his phone and then installed wrong rom. Installed
Rom for lte version, then he had issues with efs file and someone edited them and fixed them, now this image I attachedis stuck on screen, wondering if I unroot and go back to stock will that fix issue that I have shown on attachment, thank you any help is appreciated
Sent from my SGH-T999 using XDA Free mobile app
just shooting from the hip here, you don't have a backup of your previous rom? if you do, and can still get to recovery, I'd wipe everything and flash that. Baring that, you could TRY to unroot it, but I wouldn't guarantee anything. Maybe someone else has better info than me
Yea he didn't do a back up, smh, so he attempted to unroot last night and he tried flashing stock 4.3 but Odin gave him a failed. Then asked him what android version he was previously on and he says maybe 4.2 or 4.3 now phone is saying connect to lies and run recovery and still can get to download mode, told him I will try to fix it and leave it alone, any help would be appreciated on what stock rom I should flash
try kies, there is an option for "emergency recovery", then just reroot
Do I need to put phone download mode and run recovery in kies? also to go back to stock which stock rom do i flash?

also when i turn the phone on and put it into download mode this is what i have on top left corner
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME:SGH-T999
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: no
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung official
SYSTEM STATUS: none
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
Warranty Bit: 1
BOOTLOADER AP SWREV: 1
You don't need to be in odin mode to use Kies, but since you can put the phone in odin mode, go to samfirmware and download the latest firmware, then flash it. You still might have to fix the EFS though.
ok cool thank you,, ok i flashed stock rom, everything went good, but i am stil having that image on screen still, which i attached earlier, any help on how to remove that image on screen? will rooting the device and flashing rom remove that image from screen?

So is this what you did?
su
echo -n ON > /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode
Are you absolutely certain you typed it in correctly? What did it say after you entered the command?
You said the folder is empty, did you actually look at the /efs folder and it was empty??? If so, I'm not sure if theres much you can do tbh. There is device specific information there so it is unique for every device. You might be able to get some stuff back (non-unique type things), but I don't know about the rest.....DRM keys and more.....
If the folder is empty, how did you determine this? What app did you use to check it out?
You said you flashed your firmware via Odin right? Not Mobile Odin? Big difference so i just want to make sure.
It would be a big help if you could elaborate on your OP. What exactly did he flash, and how did he flash it? What was the original problem? What were the efs issues you eluded to? And more importantly what did someone edit and supposedly fix?
The only problem I have ever seen related to the efs on this device is the one you originally posted about, the FactoryMode window. Aside from that very rare issue, I have never seen any problem with the efs on the Qualcomm S3's. Many people automatically go there because OTHER devices store different information there and they expect it to be the exact same for some reason. Anyway, what I am trying to say here, is other than getting rid of FactoryMode, I can't think of anything else anyone would need to touch on that partition. This is why it is very important to know what the other person "fixed", and how.
In the meantime, go to Settings > About Device > Status, and verify the IMEI is there and that it matches the one printed on the sticker under the battery. (Am I correct in guessing all of this started with some sort of IMEI issue?) If the IMEI is anything but correct (missing, zeroed, incorrect, etc), PM me directly. Do not worry about posting again until we solve that. Chances are, if the IMEI is the problem, fixing it will solve the rest too. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to post, link or discuss that in the public forum, so I can only help via PM if that is the problem.
