I just checked my ringtones and found out that they're missing on the list. Same goes with my notification tones.

Anyone having the same problems? I'm planning to do a reset and/or a restore via odin. Thanks!

I have the same problem. I am on Omega 16. It happened to me after I cleared Media Storage data. In addition to losing all the ringtones in the list, I lost Gallery albums and Music database. I managed to restore Gallery and Music with FX File Manager but cannot do the same for the system sounds. I know they are in the /system/media/audio, but the phone does not see them..
Permission problem?
Any help will be appreciated.
Assuming you are rooted..and can change permissions, here's a screenshot of the permissions i have in this folder.
The actual ringtones are all with rw-r-r permissions.
You're sure there's no 'nomedia file' in the folder?

I have the same permissions set on the folders. I am sure that there is .nomedia file in those folders because with Root Explorer you can see all files, and there is no .nomedia files there.
In the meantime I managed to get my ringtones back only by restoring Data from Media Storage from a backup I had. It got my gallery and music screwed up again but I fixed those with FX files Manager by going to the folders with media in them and clicking "Rescan Media". This automatically rebuilds the Music and Photo databases. Unfortunately you cannot do this to root folders..
What can one do if there is no backup of Media Storage?
@Break333
Well, you could always extract a (stock)rom and copy/paste the specific folders, but you're right..that's alot of hassle.
Glad you managed to solve your problems!

It seems to use a lot of resources?
It scans storage for all media files pics music ringtones, etc and keeps there location for whatever needs them. So I would say that you do definitely need it. However it does seem like yours is going more than it should. I would recommend backing everything up and doing a full wipe and reinstall everything to see if it works better.

it's getting stuck on some dir trying to scan files. does the OP have some folder on /sdcard/ that has like, an abuse of files, jpegs, mp3? place '.nomedia' file under that dir or structure it into more folders.
Probably a corrupt picture or audio file on your /sdcard.

I don't think so. But maybe a rogue app created a ton of media files? I'd have to check.

maybe; a corrupt file could also be the cause, like previously posted. still, if we cant find the culprit, imo a fresh start would be best, reflashing from fastboot.
saw this elsewhere: there are also widgets that may cause this behaviour, especially ones that sync something.

What format is best for custom ringtones with a stock ROM? And what location is best, if they are to appear in the ringtone picklist?
Much apologies if these are n00bish Qs. I've never run a stock ROM and I need much learning. This much I know: I'm quite happy with GB27.
Regarding Q 1 ... I can convert to OGG or whatever. Just wanting to learn the most compatible format.
For Q 2, I tried copying an OGG into /system/audio/media/ringtones, but it wouldn't appear in the picklist even after a reboot. Ditto for /storage/sdcard/ringtones and /storage/extsdcard/ringtones. So, yeah, definitely trying to learn where to stick my custom ringtones.
Thanks ------
Ring tones need to be mp3 and placed in the /system/media/ringtone folder with permissions for each set to rw-r--r-- then reboot and profit

What he said, and there is an alternate way. Just simply place MP3 files into the folder labeled "Ringtones." That folder is located on the root of your internal SD Card (USB Storage). I use Airdroid to simply move and replace ringtones whenever I feel like it. Reboot after changing files around and the phone should update your ringtone list, no need for permissions changing or even checking. Works for me perfectly this way. Enjoy!

Anyone figure out how to turn off the shutter sound of the 4.3 camera? Tried putting it on silent mode but it's still loud as hell.
Sure. Make sure your phone is rooted and use root explorer app to find the corresponding folder to change audio files extension so the phone can't read the sound files.

Lok for any files to do with camera. IE shutter, camera, cam, etc & add .bak to the end of the file (press and hold file to rename).

to be honest i just deleted the whole "ui" folder. hate all the random ****ing noises this phone makes hahaha after i did it i also wiped cache and dalvik. might want to do that to :good:
when copying the bootanimation.zip file from the sd card, into system/media, it copies fine. however, when i click on the copied zip in the system/media folder, it shows this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
when i open it from the sd card, it shows the contents of the zip fine. when i look at the properties of the zip in the system/media folder, it shows this:
so, when i check as follows, i can see the contents of the zip in the system/media folder, and the animation works on boot:
running rooted htc m8 with google play edition kk 4.4.4
i've ensured supersu has granted permissions to es file explorer, that root explorer is enabled, and that system is mounted as r/w (http://i.imgur.com/utozFep.png) and done soft and normal reboot, as well as have wipe cache, and have fixed permissions via recovery to no avail.
i recall in the past, i never had to go through these extra steps.
Your system is not writable. Flash a writable kernal or Rom.

any way to make system writeable? isn't that part of the reason for granting su and mounting system as r/w?

support 4.4.4?
Hi I am having problems in importing watchfaces on Facer. I have downloaded .zip files (by boostr29) from dropbox, unzipped them and then moved the 3 files (description.json, preview.png, watchface.json) to a new folder within the Facer directory. When I open 'My Watchfaces" in Facer I can see the correct watchface, but then when I try to synch, the skin/layers are missing and only the text is visible with a black background!
I am not sure what I am doing wrong? I have re-installed Facer, deleted the Facer folder, rebooted, but the problem still persists.
......any ideas what the problem could be???
Ps. the standard featured Facer watchfaces work fine
Because you're not even remotely doing it correctly. Layers are images, in the images folder that goes along with the rest of the watch face files. All you do is open Facer, click on the Import button and find the ZIP or FACE file. It'll take care of everything for you. No need to mess with the component files.

I have the same problem. I also extracted the zip file to a subdir in the facer directory. I don't have an import button. How do I find it??

I highlighted the button for you. That'll open your storage on your phone. Locate the ZIP or FACE file and that's it.
I like the Potato clock! That kinda made my day.
