My LG optimus Pro arrived today. Great phone. Still adjusting to the screen. I've got a DNA droid which is 1080p and this thing even better in 5.5". Anyone got any root methods I could try on the phone that might work?
I can confirm that there is NO wireless charging out of the box I have a QI charger for my DNA and my G Pro does not work on it. Seems we need that new flip case to get the wireless charging...
Is the screen as reflective and has poor outdoor visibility as gsmarena is saying? There's an 80-character limit in SMS right?

Ok compared to my DNA in sunlight its worse off and slightly more reflective. But its better than my wifes 4X HD for sure. Its not a deal breaker. I will try and get a photo up of them in the sunlight.
SMS I get 140 character limit.
I've just rooted the phone too, there is a working method here: http://optimusforums.com/threads/how-too-root-optimus-g-pro-f240-download.7652/
Apparently it can get close to 25,000 in AnTuTu, thats much more than GSMArena posted. I've only managed around 21k. It looks level with the Galaxy S4 score: http://optimusforums.com/threads/optimus-g-pro-benchmark-thread.7653/#post-8078
How is the sound from the back speakers and headphone sound output?

Pretty cool you can root it already! 20+ gb user-available storage just isn't enough for installing apps.

Its a decent enough loudspeaker no complaints. Headphone output is clear if a little low compared to my beats DNA. But Poweramp fixes that up a bit.

Yes imagine the issues I have with 11GB user available on my DNA ;( Battery life doesn't seem as bad as GSMArena make it out to be. Maybe they had the screen on 100% and sync'ing all the time???

So, should we ask mods 2 open a separate forum section divired 2 F240?

Wut? How much apps space does average user need? Game caches certainly can be placed on microSD, am I mistaken?

I'm certain that they had some zombie process churning up battery constantly, maybe even some system apk cause LG usually has some bugs in their ROMs when some system apps don't go to sleep properly. And screen on 100% is very probably reason of poor battery bench too

As far as I know, you can't keep game data in the external micro sd. Huge Gameloft games eat up to 3gb of storage and none of those can be installed or partially moved to external sd - which is a problem for some, especially for those who have a 64gb external sdxc card. Thank goodness there's DirectoryBind.
Hi,
Then this G Optimus Pro is it wonderful?
Can you give your opinion on the engine please.
I flashed on its design, particularly its big screen without a stylus
I'm in France, I think it will not come here, I can import you think?

Will be interesting to compare the Optimus G Pro and the North American version of the Galaxy S4. They're basically the same hardware, just slightly different CPU speeds.

Is that so? Nice, although I've heard about other Korean phones (Sky) still having SMS character limit issues even after using third party sms apps from google play. I hope G Pro owners can confirm if GO SMS PRO really does solve the character limit.

Just a note after my Galaxy S4 disaster (s4 screen broke in my pocket)
I went back to my Optimus G Pro. And what a difference. I fell for the hype and benchmarks of the i9500 8 core. Ok so my OGP gets 19k in antutu and my S4 got 29k. 10k more. Thing is in the real word. My optimus g pro is sooo much quicker and snapper in everything it does. Typing is faster and easier I could go on and on. Benchmarks don't mean jack and I finally learnt that the hard way. Real life usage is what counts.
The launcher and S_Bloat make the S4 stutter and lag. If an s4 owner says that not true either they are immune to it and use to it. Or pure blinded fanboys.
If you know someone with an S4 put the phones side by side and do phone tasks. You'll see stutters and lag on the S4 but smoothness on the OGP.
I wasted a lot of money since my S4 broke, but glad I have the best phone out there for me. The Optimus G Pro. King of phablets.
My F240K next to my weak S4 that could not live in my jeans pocket without cracking an amloed screen.

Could not agree with you more. I have a galaxy s4 and it lags and sucks. The LG Optimus G Pro is a much faster device. I agree most folks claiming galaxy s4 is the best are pure fanbois. It's funny these same fanbois make fun of apple fanbois and they are not better. They take whatever Samsung feeds them and they love it. Galaxy s4 battery also sucks it's just not a wow phone and sub par even thought specs are similar to LG.

Yep its over rated. I've found everything my Optimus G Pro does, is much faster and better than the S4. I forgot to mention. The camera is faster and better indoors. My S4 suffered horrible shutter lag. Music quality is better. Battery much better. I could go on and on.
I was blinded into thinking the S4 was better. Good marketing in Samsung part I must admit. They are more like Apple more as each new device is released.
The i8910 Omnia was good, the S2 was good. S3 onwards = made for the masses. And I fell for it.
LG It seems have stuck to there plan, if they just improve there updates to new android versions they could be selling much more as their hardware is top notch.

Also it seems the sg4. And the HTC one are having some strange build issues. I was reading about camera lens problems on the one and screen breaking in the sg4. The sad part is how rude and nasty those forum are becoming. Glad I pick up this phone and the people here are more helpful and appears to have a better sense of community. Thanks guys for being great people.

Yes I know what you mean. I post about my screen breaking on my S4 in the s4 forums and was accused of lying and making it all up. Got some nasty replies. That I must have dropped the phone. Many users there are now completely blind and cant hear anything bad about their beloved s4.
Good thing was a few other users on aged accounts also posted the same issue with the screen (amoled) cracking in their pockets. The lag too from the poor software launcher goes mostly unnoticed apart from comments like root and uninstall the bloat, issue fixed.
Shouldn't be like that in the first place. Well OGP will be my phone for a while till the OG2P is out. Well done LG.
Agreed
I also felt that s4 has no any thing which is perfectly crafted...everything is half baked....octa core to air view to heating to low memory to screen smearing etc...only gimmic is perfect
But ..bitter truth THAT LG Optimus G Pro has everything better except Dev Support...
If this device gets dev support like note devices...it will be great for long run

No, I'm pretty sure it is not safeguard but mere care of consumers' comfort. Look how hot could G Pro go on early ROMs, I assume before they've created new updated thermal.conf

Please do share how to so this, increase the throttling temp range
I have done some editing in system/etc/thermald.conf
Warning messing with values here could cause heat damage to your OGP
Run adb logcat | grep Thermal
You can see when it throttles
LG have various temp sensor alarms that clock down the CPU when it gets to 57 degrees if I reading it right.

No, I don't think it'll help with lags but anyhow, this is it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2296447
I think lags are from incorrect idle activities implementation either on Qualcomm side on LG side, the overheating is not to blame here
give it time
They are brand new devices, so give it a few months before you seriously judge them.
For example, scrolling in Chrome is smooth as butter on my GSII and yet I get lots of stutters scrolling Chrome on my Optimus G Pro, even though it is has faster everything [cpu/gpu/ram]. That being said, I am not going to call the Optimus G Pro junk, just because it isn't perfect.
Thats down to software. I use the Internet browser and its fast and smooth. Chrome isn't. And typing about:debug then hitting settings button allows you debug setting like making the user agent desktop.

Oh nice. Glad you are here. This phone has a lot of potential
The Note 3 is very fast and Buttery Smooth like the HTC One's Span dragon 600 processor but even a bit faster with the 800
I wish there was a way for the camera settings to stick when you change them like ISO.. if you do auto for taking pictures.. especially in low light, the pictures will look terrrrible! you need to set ISO to 800 or 400
The speakers are quite frankly a disappointment.. the note 2's speakers are indeed better so you can imagine how the htc one trounces the speakers in quality.. really really not sure what samsung was thinking when downgrading the speaker quality
The front facing camera quality is also not Good.. the note 2's front facing camera was good but the color production was pretty bad... the front camera on the note 3 is gritty and the saturation levels are so bland
Im thankful for the auto correct on the keyboard but its very here and there.. not as good as some other options but it's OK and i find myself using it more than i used the stock keyboard on the note 2
Vibrate feedback on the device is just ok.. htc and Motorola does a better job with the vibrate feedback.. on the note 3 it feels slightly weak and on some other devices you can feel the heft of the feedback if that makes sense.
The Spen is clearly more accurate to the touch than the note 2.. i happen to have need penmanship and it does show when i write with the Spen
The many software options on the note 3 may take up space but the good thing is that you can disable the apps or turn them on or off so they arent runnning.. the battery is really really really good on this damn phone Heavy use and 4 hours and 5 minutes with the screen on and the battery is at 43 percent. I think i can get a good 7 hours screen on time or more so with all these apps on the device, they dont seem to wear down the battery even though i know the battery life would be even better without all of these features... i actually like all the stuff on here.. human get bored quickly and having customizations options on your phone is a top notch plus!
O did i say the speaker was on my last nerves? lollll ... it's a little better than the nexus 4, LG G2 and Galaxy Nexus speakers but if the quality was degraded any further, it would be on par with those. (no disrespect to yall phones.. just giving an honest overview)
For those that says the Leather like material feels like plastic... well hey.. thats their hands and i cant tell them any different but for ME, it does feel like Leather..maybe Pleather lol..Feels like a Leather Wallet's material..i really like it and i found that the phone does not get hot like the note 2 did at times or even the Nexus 4.. good job Samsung
The Multi-Window Feature was improved and much easier to navigate!
The device is clearly the epitome of what Project Butter should stand for ... the battery is an addictive thing to own... and this phone is a phone to keep... however, will i be keeping it myself? if i can tolerate these speakers with using earphones more often and if samsung sends an update to iron out some settings sticking in the camera app then I'm on board for keeping this sucka for a while!
If you have questions, I can try to answer for you. thanks and if there are any grammatical errors, excuse me.. i dont feel like going back to correct them all lol

Noticable difference for sure. I have noticed many things take far less time. When I used Nandroid Manager to restore my apps from the Nandroid I had made on my S4 it took half the time that it did on my S4 usually. All across the board things are so much faster on this then the S4.
Thanks for the mini review. I'm really glad they brought auto-correct back, maybe Samsung struck a deal with Apple or something.
As for the speaker, as long as it's louder than the LG G2 I'm okay, the G2's speaker was horrendous.

The biggest difference in the 2 SoC's are they cores they use. The 600 uses Krait 300 cores, while the 800 uses krait 400 cores. The krait 400 cores are a higher clock speed out of the box, as well as faster L2 cache. Let's also not forget your getting the Adreno 330 vs the 320, which also offers a bump in frame rates on things.
I would assume the 800 would be able to OC higher as well. Depending on the bin of the chip and voltages.
Also the 800 supports 4K video recording, granted its really gimmick at the moment, and the 600 does not.

Both are good chipsets. On paper the 800 is better. But that doesn't mean in really life it is. As you said, real world feel. I know when I played with note 3 at my store, it was faster than my 2 that's for sure.

Daily usage you will be fine with either but if you play higher end games note 3 plays them smoother like mc4 or dungeon hunter 4. But if you don't want lag and 32 gb storage note 3 is the way to go.

Personally I'd go for the Samsung merely because it has an SD slot, I bought one at Tesco for 199UKP but if you can get one for 129UKP then buy one, you won't be disappointed, it never leaves my side
[EDIT] my bad, 129UKP for a pad

The Samsung tab 3 8 is £50 cheaper than the LG gpad but you get quad core processor, 2gb ram hd display and the LG gpad has also got micro sd upto 64 GB it can take
, so for 50 extra do you guys recommend it or should I stick to the tab 3 8

Tough one, I'm a committed Samsung man, having converted the best part of my family and friends I'm a little biased I'd say.
Bear in mind, Samsung are releasing a "pro" range of tablets soon, as ever, as soon as you've bought what you think is the best of the bunch something else comes along and has a better spec.
I think a more prudent question would be, "I've got £x, what's the best tablet for that price"

im doing it on my note 2 so far ,
this is going to be for the kids so that they can have a go at it ,
i think spending extra 50 pounds is not justifiable as teh the technology is gonna chave quickly and new tab is gonna come with better specs ,
so i will wait and buy the cheaper one the tab 3 8
If it's for your kids have you considered the Hudl? Quite good spec for not much money

I personally love the size of the Samsung 8.0. It is perfect for carrying around and the screen size is better than the Nexus. You also can use split screen on 8.0. SD cards are cheap for the 8.0 but processor is a bit slower but I don't see it with normal app. Not sure about the gpad, but I love my tab 3 over the Nexus.

The reason I have been holding out for the G3 so far is because of that QHD display. However, having never actually seen the display I don't know whether I am wasting my time here. Is the display really going to be amazingly better?

I have had mine for one day so far and the screen outperforms and is better than my Gal GS5. The screen is bigger than the GS5 but the phone in your hand feels the same size.
one thing I just found our today, because of the size of the screen, OneNote and Office 365 think it is a table, Microsoft does not make a Android tablet version for these two apps. I have to use these apps almost everyday so I may have to go back to my GS5 unless someone knows a way install these apps on this great phone.

Just download the apk to your S5 and then transfer it over and install it on the G3. It will be located in /data/app on your S5.

Thought about ditching my note 3 for the HTC m8 but that black bar taking up so much space lost me.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
I feel that the m8 is about the best choice.. The g3's extra boost in core and ram are awesome along with the screen but I truely don't feel it will see full utilization in the devices life time.
I was in the same boat as you.. Though I'm on day three with the m8 and I cannot put it down.. Performance is solid.. And the dual speakers are phenominal.
Either way it's a good topic for discussion.

Do you want a locked bootloader or an unlocked one? That's the only question for me that needs answering.

Stock the phone is fairly impressive as well.
I personally jump over to rooting like many within a day just because of the bloatware from T-Mobile and HTC.(what i considered)
Though some of the stock applications seem thought out and catered to the user over just to take up space.
the m8 only has a 1080 display while the other new phones will have a 2k/4k display plus the camera on the m8 sucks

I have onenote and office365 on my GS5 but can not see the apks in /data/app, my /data folder does not show the app folder.
FIXED: I used ontheflybackup from another phone, it exported the apk to sd card and then installed on my G3, all is good, I get to keep this great phone

Get the G3. I have the M8. Its not much of an upgrade over the M7. Its bigger, has a worse design (in my opinion), a slightly larger screen (but lower PPI) and slightly better speakers. The main advantages are the solid battery life and the Snapdragon 801. But the camera is still not very good.
The G3 has 3GB RAM, a Quad HD screen, 13MP camera with OIS+ and LaserFocus, a larger removable battery and despite it having a larger screen, its footprint is nearly the same as smaller screened smartphones such as the S5, M8 and Z2. Plus I think the new Optimus UI on the G3, is the most attractive UI outside of stock Android. Better than Touchwiz, Sense and Timescape.

I had the M8 for three days, sold it and got the G3, the G3 is so much better in so many ways.
i have the M8 now but have had the Nexus 5 and S5 as well. The camera is not bad it's actually pretty good for sharing via social media. It's really fast too.
That said, I'm looking at the G3. What looks like a problem with the G3 is LG's UI which to me is nothing more than a Samsung clone. I personally like the Sense UI better but that doesn't mean I will stick with the M8. The G3's camera looks amazing but so is the S5's. I don't know how much better the G3 would be than either the M8 or S5 honestly.
I have a q, will more efficient processors in the future allow for quad hd to take less power or does it not matter and the screen is the screen and itll just draw a Certain amount just due to the light it has to emit and the cpu involved doesn't make that much of a difference?

Hello,
I broke my old nexus phone and in market for new phone. I don't wanna spend a fortune and looking for a good one under $300.
so what you guys suggest? should I buy this phone for wait for Honor 5X just announced ?
Cheers
If you were used to the nexus and like pure android , you may not like the ZF2 interface. There are many cool features , but the price is bloatwares and more bloatwares ...
From the standpoint of performance , nothing to complain about .
Yes. BEst phone so far
very smooth performance. but camera is very very bad. toshiba sensor looks like good but asus camera performance is so bad. night shots very noisy, video features and video performance very bad. slow motion feature very very bad. blurry and supports only 1/4 . very old samsung phones supports smooth 1/8 slow motion. only daylight outdoor shots good only and only....
i think somebody must say asus's engineers that people uses camera oftenly, this device have super performance but if your camera bad people says this is poor quality device...

It's an awesome phone. Buying is up to you
Nexus 6 is also $250 go for it (if size is not prob)
but i will say go for honor 7(perfect)
zenfone 2 is pure performance even on top of many apps running parallel it is something u wont complain about
Anyways wat is ur main requirement i will suggest u one according to that
Dont go for huawei if u want performance go for it f u want looks, camera and ios like ui its not at all near zf2 in terms of performance
Btw, camera is not that bad in zenfone 2 it is like using a old 2014 device(note3) but vide is like between a 2013-2014 device(s4) i compared them personally in indoor setting , outdoor is better
I hope you get the point , sorry for bad English
This phone also has issues dropping calls for me and I'm running the Asus stock firmware not even rooted. Asus support is no help at all if you have an issue, they just tell you to do a factory reset for every issue and wipe the cache, what a joke.

Ya as @Chocketbear even i had a worst experience with the ASUS support, they had no experience in how to deal with customers. they phone is really good but the customer support service is really bad and that's the reason i am still thinking.
I am not sure how the HONOR 5X customer service would be and how the phone will be but i think i will take a shot at it and if i don't like it i can always return within 30 days.

Some have had no issues but if you google the phone you'll see it has had many issues. I really wish I had not even bought it now and gone for the nexus. I use my phone in my business and really depend on it for calls and getting MMS from people, but those are the main issues it has. I've went through the right steps and checked with my wireless provider to make sure the setting are correct and they are, have the latest firmware, Bla bla.
I came from a galaxy S3 and believe me....Samsung makes some really good phones, I just dropped mine and needed a new one.

Samsung's are a hit or miss phone as well. Every Samsung I have owned has been laggy until i put a custom kernel on it due to them trying to extend battery life with poor governors (they test well in benchmarks but in real world usage they take awhile to scale up the frequencies so apps like browser always lag). All their new phones have had a Wi-Fi connection issue that has been present since the release of lollipop (don't happen all the time just occasionally). The new note 5 digitizers are just randomly dying for no reason (my friend went to bed 1 night and when he woke up his phone didn't work anymore. Samsung tech support confirmed they have been getting this issue from multiple people and the digitizer needed to be replaced.). Samsung has the shortest battery lifespan of any phone I've ever owned. I would look into a oneplus one as they have nice phones with lots of development and you could probably find them for around $300 now.
I use to be a huge Samsung fan until they tried to completely stop development on their phones. I miss my old i777. I wish it hadn't got confiscated by the police.

Good use.
It depends on how much you're willing to spend on a device. If you just want a mid range phone, that can do lots of things near as good as the flagships, AND don't mind the size + the locations of the buttons, then yes, you should buy it. If not, I suggest you to wait for this year's phones - and also Asus' one as well - to see what's better.
Personally, I'm loving this phone. Maybe the only bad thing is the lack of major updates, since it's still on 5.0.X. But if you don't mind rooting, then you'll be more than fine with cm13.
If you're ready to put up with the bugs in the software, then yes. I'm thinking to move to something else.

Yes you should, the phone is really good w/ a cheap price
