Hi,
Are the Telstra Desire able to work with the newest 5.09 Radio?
is 3g internet and everything else still working after the update is applied? Will a SIMlock occur?
What are the advantages with this update?
Can we go back to previous radios by simply reflashing the radio?
I'm looking at Flashing a Froyo ROM and want to make sure that I don't brick my Desire in trying to do so.
Thanks
Mine's been working perfectly fine on the new Radio and Official Froyo (Without hboot) using nickiberli's ROM since about 30 minutes after it was uploaded.
I've been backwards and forwards and all over the place using other ROMs too, and have always been able to RUU flash it back to the stock Telstra 2.1 and re-root from scratch.
BTW: No SIMLock, and 3G/Wifi/GPS/Bluetooth all work as they did pre-2.2 and the new radio.
Sounds good. Which version of the Radio did you use?
Do you know if there are problems accessing the Telstra web pages and checking your accounts online as I have read that it may not work due to not having the useragent string?
Thanks for your help

Unless your phone is rooted you should be fine. There is a fix on the Modaco forums to replace the user strings in custom roms with the correct Telstra ones.
I can't confirm if it works as I've never used it (can't stand the Telstra crapware myself) but would be worth a shot
EDIT: Almost forgot, I'm currently using 5.09.00.20. 5.08.00.04 also worked fine.

The Telstra Strings I only need for online billing, otherwise just accessing the telstra website apparently charges.
Are there problems if you have or are planning to Root the phone? Currently it is not rooted, but if i try going to a FROYO ROM i will need to. Will this cause problems?
Thanks

I use 5.09.00.20 as well with no hassles.
Personally I don't care about the Telstra web pages as I use none of them, so I wouldn't know (I even removed all links and references to them in my stock ROM via ADB). I'm assuming they won't work due to said useragent string missing.
Otherwise, as Stewage says, there's a fix floating around somewhere for it if it's that important to you.

The problem that arises is basically just the useragent string not being in non-Telstra ROMs (Which you'll be using if you root and install Froyo). At least this is the impression I get, I haven't had ANY issues otherwise, and I've been rooted since about 3 days after I got the phone.
ok...
So if i flash the Radio to 5.09 then root, then flash to FROYO i shouldn't have any problems other than anything that deals with Telstra and needing to update APN
Found this rom over on the modaco forums:
http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desire-desire-modaco-com/314372/telstramod2-2-2-sense-720p/
Looks like it's based on Leedroid and Pauls roms (both Froyo) and with the Telstra strings modded in. I'd give that a crack to see if your Telstra stuff still works
yeah im using the latest radio from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687464
and the latest opendesire rom from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712615
works fine!
you can still check your usage without the strings, just means it will count towards your data usage instead of being unmetered, but really not that big of a deal unless you're signed up to the foxtel mobile crap
OK.
One final thing. When you flash the radio do you have to use Paul's R5 tools, or can you use ROM Manager (Clockwork) to flash the radio?
Thanks
P.S. Sorry for asking all the N00b questions
There is a custome leedroid Telstra specific mod available here:
t-mod.org
full instructions here:

You can use clockworkmod or Amon RA recovery to flash the radio the same way you flash the custom roms
not sure if i am resurrecting a dead thread, but i thought it would be worthwhile getting the opinions of people with the Telstra Desire (A8183 model) on what radios are best for making sure that we get on the 850mhz (NextG) rather than the crappy 2100mhz (3Telstra) band... I noticed that my phone spends more time on 3Telstra than my wife's does as her phone has the Telstra Rom on it (presume that means that radio and RIL too) and so her phone gets speeds about 400kb/s while mine sits next to it getting 100kb/s...
Any ideas??
I just checked for a software update and its available, downloaded and can confirm its 2.2, also all the voda branding has gone!
You do neen at least 25mb free space on your phone for the update to install btw.

Vodafone 2.2 updgrade
do you have a link for it, i couldn't find it.
Yes, finally... and they are the first UK network to update their branded Desires to FroYo. AFAIK.
I'm with T-mobile and we don't even have a certain date yet...
Just installed it
On initial inspection, the only downside is my gps now not working
I haven't realy 'played' yet thought as I'm at work but I think a hard reset and go from there is going to be the way fowards
I've got it as well, had to re enter apn settings though. Having problems with wifi settings cant get into them, keeps asking for credential storage password. Anyone else getting this?

can anyone root this and upload it? i am not sure if i can trust vodafone anymore
Also installed today, vodafone have removed all the bloatware because we all made a big stink about it. No more useless crap on my phone so I'm happy.

A root version would be amazing... i'm just getting to grips with root, don't really want to lose it yet!
Well done to Vodafone for listening though.
Anyone wanna extract the new radio from it for everyone else?
You own a Vodafone HTC Desire righ? With your help we can get the download link. A person on Vodafone UK official forum managed to download the latest firmware by some smart work. All he did was checked the name of the file that the phone was slowly downloading. So what you need to do is capture the OTA_..... text from your phone and paste it in the place holder. http://liveimage.htc.com//[OTA_goeshere].zip.Please share if you manage to do it successfully.
No I don't, I've got a generic WWE Desire...I just want the radio from the new OTA update
OTA_Bravo_Vodfone_UK_2.10.161.2_1.24.161.3_releasejldotwm8uy2ohjmf.zip
OTA_Bravo_Vodafone_UK_2.10.161.2-1.24.161.3_releasejldotwm8uy2ohjmf.zip
wrong link before...
Is there a way to download that file, replace the Hboot and load it as a custom ROM?
Nice, downloading it now!
EDIT: How do you extract the radio from the OTA file?
Anyone got the link from 1.19.161.x to 2.10.161.2? Would be good for people wanting to update manually
Got the radio btw, will upload it later tonight
Hm, I posted it earlier, but looks like its still waiting to be approved (posts with links have to be approved for "new" users)
Radio is up in the Development forum, been using it and it seems OK
Hello,
My internet doesn't work. I already checked the APN-settings, resetted them and made them completely new. The WLAN is working perfect.
I checked that the data connection is used at the preferences. But I still get:
at HTTP Client-Test: "Fail: IOException"
GPRS-Service is not connected
"state: dcactivatingState is connecting to..."
But no changes...
Phone: HTC Wildfire/Buzz
ROM: CyanogenMod 7.1.0.1
Radio: 3.35.20.10
I'm not sure what to do now. Should I poste you some more information?
Regards, Florian

Thanks Ankurcul.
Hi
Hope someone can help!
I got my brother in law htc wildfire.
And got a code to open it up to any network.
We got the code from an internet site called GSMliberty, the code has worked to a degree.
It receives calls and can make them, the time is right, and the internet works over wi-fi of course.
But it will not connect to the internet on its own ie 3g.
The phone was locked to 3 and I have tried 2 different sim cards in, orange and t-mobile, both have unlimited data plans.
I have changed the apn setting to match each network/carrier and all I get is connection failed.
I have called and emailed the code people who say it is down to the data set up.
I have been in touch with t-mobile his the network/carrier he wants and they have talked us through it, as have htc help centre but to no avail.
However if we put a 3 sim back in, it connects to the internet, swap it back and change the internet setting to the network required and won't work.
Does anyone have any ideas or help?
It has not been rooted or messed with, just the unlock code.
Kindest regards
Shaun
I would suggest that you root it and S-off it. You will void your warranty is SOFTWARE level, so if any problem occur in the future you could just roll back everything. Anything you'll need can be found here
Hi what do you mean by. S- off after I root?
Sent from my GT-I9100P using XDA
First root the phone and if the problem remains then s-off. EVERYTHING is in the link that I gave you above. Almost all questions are answered there, and if any remains we will be glad to help. But is is VERY IMPORTANT TO DO EXACTLY WHAT THE GUIDE THAT YOU WILL FOLLOW TELLS!
Thank you for your reply, but going to leave it. Tried to root it via superone click, but could'nt do it.
And not sure where to get kernal to do via odin.
When I have tried to get them for galaxy s2, seem to struggle to download them, hence using superone click.
Although I'm not thick, reading what people say on here is difficult to understand.
But again thank for your help.
Kind regards.

I once tried to sell a phone locked on 3 network to a shop but the Guy in the shop told me he wouldn't buy it as he has trouble unlocking 3 phones, something about the 3 software they use doesn't like being unlocked and used on a different network, I didn't really look into it as I already had a new phone and just gave it to a mate.
I think what the poster above may be hinting at is debranding the phone, i.e getting rid of any 3 branded software and flashing a generic ruu which should theoretically work on any network as long as the sim is recognized.
We have plenty of guides here if you want pointing in the right direction. Odin will only work for Samsung phones I believe and I'm not too sure superone click works on a wildfire either.

So what is s-off?
Sent from my GT-I9100P using XDA
No superone does'nt. Found out when google searching.
Sent from my GT-I9100P using XDA
S-off is disabling the secuflag which HTC used to lock the bootloader, disabling it allows you to write to the system while the phone is on or flash a new radio, basically unlocking the phone completely.
If you take a read of "the complete wildfire guide" by 3xeno the first 2 posts contain just about everything you would need to know if you want to root and s-off the phone, Im not 100% sure you need to though as I think you can use an ruu (in post number 2) which will basically restore your phone to a stock rom without any branding. Its just a case of plugging the phone into the computer and running the ruu follow the instructions and when the phone reboots it should have been restored to factory and had the radio, bootloader restored too ruling out any problems with them if it still doesn't work after.
Sorry I can't post a link to the index as the app keeps crashing on my phone when I try.
Edit: silly me its the link posted before, trust me everything you'll need is in those first 2 posts, if an ruu doesn't do the job post here again and we'll hopefully get you rooted and on a different rom.
Hi have managed to root, but now I have internet access hut when I try connect to the android market it disconnects again.
Tried to do the s-off but was getting lost at what to do with htc supertool v3.
It is rooted but loosing signal on market access, it says conbection fail.
Untick the internet connection and retick and it starts again to surf.
Any ideas, market works on wifi!

How did you root?
Are you on a stock rom or a custom one like Cm7?
Did you install clockworkmod recovery?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
all stock rom, rooted with unrevoked
Ok then, the quickest way I think would be to try a custom rom to fix your problem, first go to recovery, turn off and press volume down and power together to get to hboot then select recovery.
Once its loaded first backup your current rom, while its backing up download a rom Cm7 I recommend, it should have all the apns setup already, look in the development section for the download or on the cyanogenmod website, you want stable 7.2 rc1. After the backups done, go to mounts & storage and mount USB to transfer the Cm7.2 zip. Then go to advanced and select reboot recovery.
Once loaded again you need to wipe the device completely, so choose wipe cache, wipe data and from advanced menu wipe dalvik cache, now choose to install from zip and navigate to where the Cm7 zip is on your SD card and let it install then reboot. It should take around 5-10 minutes to reboot as its rebuilding the software on the phone during the first boot.
If the market isn't installed you need to download Google apps for gingerbread and then flash that zip in recovery. No need to wipe anything for that, after the reboot you'll be prompted to sign into a Google account, everything should hopefully work then.

when I go to recovery, it doesn't give me the option to back up.
it says
reboot system now
wipe data/factory re
wipe cache partition
install zip sdc
nandroid
partitions menu
advanced
and at the top clockworkmod recovery v
Sorry I forgot to say I'm a pain in the ass

ps do you accept donations as I feel you deserve a beer!
I think the option you need is under nandroid.
I believe that's because you're on the old clockwork v2.xxx we're mostly on 5.0.2.0+ now. Its called a nandroid backup so I'm guessing choose nandroid and it should ask you to backup, restore or advanced restore. You want to backup.
Nah I don't accept donations everything I do is out of the kindness of my heart.

Hi all,
I have been having antenna issues with calls and wifi. These problems has caused lots of dropped calls lately. I am not sure if it is really my carrier (vodaphone Australia) or not. The only thing I have done when I got my phone is to update to Android Gingerbread. Now the baseband version I am running on "12.56.60.25_26.10.04.03". I would like to know if the stock rom be the issue or it is the radio?
If so I would like the help from here.
Thanks

Hi,
the information that you provided is, in my opinion, not enough for some serious troubleshooting. So the best I can do, is make suggestions:
1. Do you have an old phone lying around? If so insert your sim there to find out if the problem persists, then it would be your carriers fault.
If the problem did not persist with another phone, you can at least be certain that you're phone is at fault.
2. Follow one of the extensive guides (easily to be found in the development section) on rooting and downgrading your phone. Once you've acquired root and s-off you can go ahead and flash different roms/radios to see if that fixes things for you.

Do this pretty much ^. I used this guide to downgrade my phone from gingerbread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15851843. At first i thought that i had used a different guide but then i realised that i had actually used this guide to gain root access on my phone http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Desire_Z:_Rooting . To use that methods of gaining root though, you need to have ADB working on your computer, so here is a guide for that too http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Howto:_Install_the_Android_SDK . I hope this helps.
Well since HTC released the bootloader unlocker, I have unlocked my bootloader but I am waiting for a solution to have s off. I think it would be a good start to unroot and flash a different Rom. Do you know any Roms that have Chinese and Korean language support? I heard miui and cm7 has Chinese support? Am I correct?

Hello devs.. I have an HTC one Verizon and I just switched to straight talk. well while I am at it, I want to unlock completely and install a custom ROM get rid of verizons crap.. I am out of practice really. I used to have all the HTC incredibles, the tilt 2. It was so easy for me to follow how to unlock and cwm and root those phones.
I just cannot grasp how to do all that with this phone. I would like to know or be pointed to the right direction or maybe get some personal walkthroughs to get s-off, unlocked bootloader, obtain root.
everywhere I have been looking, I just don't understand. I have already ported my sim and number from straight talk and did a factory reset. I obviously have the most current updates. I really would like some help otherwise im afraid im going to brick my phone or be forced to keep the Verizon factory.
Android is 5.0.2
Sense is 6.0
6.55 is SDK API level
please help.. I will be avail all day tomorrow to get this all done.
Thank you

Do a google search for "sunshine HTC One m7 Verizon". That is the ONLY way to s-off the phone if you have the newest software already. After that, you can use fastboot to install recovery just like you would have in the old days of your old devices. Look up santod's roms. He has a recovery build you can use with a download link. I also recommend his roms themselves as well. He is very responsive if you follow his instructions and puts out high quality work. Good luck.

Yeah, I was just answering his question about how to unlock and rom. I don't know anything about using it on straight talk. I'd imagine it might work ok, but he's probably not going to have all the bands for full GSM support. Regardless, I think a mod should probably move this out of development section.

well I still have Verizon active... I can just swap sim cards for now then do all the programming then swap back? straight uses same towers and bands as Verizon... same sims just different numbers. I don't see why there would be that big of an issue? and sorry if I posted in the wrong forum category
