How the hell do I get Google navigation to give me turn by turn real time directions? I did a clean flash of wild for the night 3/8 version. Maps sees my location pretty close, and if I type a destination it will give me directions, just can't get it to go turn by turn, what am I doing wrong?

My friend had this problem. The only thing that fixed it was to download the app "gps status", turn on gps, open the app, hit menu, then tools then clear gps state. Then hit download gps data. Reboot
Tried that, all it says is GPS looking for location... thus sucks

Try this.
Search, read. Then search some more.
There are SO many posts about GPS issues it's silly. I personally have made dozens.
Right now I'm on Stock Rooted GB08, with GB27 modem and GB08 Agat/Garwynn repacked Kernel. And my GPS does work and most importantly will "stop searching for GPS data...." when I close my applicatins now.
And my GPS apps do work outside too.
You may find what you are looking for but probably won't be handed the answer you're looking for.
This phone has been well known to have horrible radios and gps.
On any aosp rom I have to first use a touchwiz based ics one click and get a gps lock. I then power off the phone with gps running and odin el26 then flash the aosp rom. I always make sure to get a gps lock again before the first reboot of the aosp rom. It sounds dumb and time consuming but it works.
I actually got a lock in GPS status. Had to be outside. All is good now. Cleared the data and then re downloaded...got a lock in 2 seconds

Ahah! I knew it. That app works wonders.
Lucky. Ive left my phone outside with screen on for an hour searching for gps.
Tried this again today. Nothing worked. GPS in this phone is useless. I'm on stock rooted tw ROM.

I wonder how true this is. I've never resolved my GPS locking issues either, but never knew anyone with an unrooted phone to compare against. I've had the same behavior with my previous phone(Sprint HTC Hero). It's been going on long enough where I stopped looking for reliable solutions.
Typically, GPS will work great for me after a reboot, even indoors at times. After a day or two, it will fail to lock when needed. I can use an app like GPS Status to reset the agps data, but I have to do it every time I need GPS service if it's been over a few hours since the last time I reset the data with the app. When I get sick of having to use the app to reset data and get a lock before using the app I want, I will do another reboot in hopes to get a longer period before having to use the app again. Many of the fixes I've attempted seem to work at first, but the problem comes back. It's hard to tell if the given fix did anything or if the reboot during the install of the fix is what helped for a short time. I wish apps had the option to automatically reset agps data when being launched, but I'm guessing there's good reason for not doing that. I admit I don't really know what's going on in the background to validate that consideration.
If you are never getting any gps locks at all, and you've tried using the recommended apps to reset your agps data, then you may have other issues. I was running into this after installing a ROM and forgetting to install the required modem. However, that was a much more obvious issue. If you're having GPS issues, I think it's worth noting whether or not you've had any successful locks with your current rom, or if things have become unreliable in situations that used to work. I'm just curious if others share the same experience as me. For those that are used to using an app like GPS Status, how often do you need to reset the data before using a gps app?
Head over to Exit_Only's thread and check out some of his awesome tweaks. But this should help. I know it worked wonders for me. It's from his post. Please thank him, he's been great with updates as well. Check under "Add ons".

Try it a couple times with a few reboots. If that doesnt work. Try flashing wild for the night 2/15. And try again. If thats a no go then try flashing back to stock.
If at first you dont succeed. Try, try again.
If you still dont succeed, then its prolly time for a new phone
Q: I am running AOSP/AOKP/CM based rom and my data is slow. Also my 3g/4g is not working. Oh yeah and I never get a GPS lock. I don't want to go back to stock touchwiz! Please HELP!!!
A: Well you can't update profile and prl using AOSP/AOKP/CM based rom and it has to be done from touchwiz based roms. But there is some good news. You can temp boot to stock EL29 rom and do whatever you want to such as use dialcodes, update profile/prl etc. Temp boot means that you will be able to boot 1 time to EL29 and then next time you boot, you will be back on whatever rom you were on. Follow this simple video to do this.

My phone has always randomly had a little glitch. For some reason, once every so often my 3G icon just disappears and stuff like my internet and market dont work. SMS still works fine though. Normally just a reboot fixes the problem but today I had to pull the battery. This happened even when I was fully stock but now I'm running DC 3.2.3 still with the stock kernal. Any similar experiences?
Running all-stock with no root. Happens to me also.
Full bars for signal (calls and texts) but the 3G icon stops transferring. I just put the DATA widget on my homescreen and toggle it. Not really a big deal...so far.
Same things happening to me it wont connect to 3g and freezes most of the time. Just started about 2 days ago

...If you are you should try flashing a stock rooted and see if the problem still exists. If it does you may want to try to unroot, go back to stock and update everything. Then you can narrow down if it is rom/software/hardware related

I was also running stock rooted at first. Here is a weird update I just came across though. I've installed (and uninstalled) SwitchPro, which is basically a more customizable widget than the stock power control widget, 3 times now. And every time I add the actual widget to my home screen my 3G instantly disappears.....wtf? I uninstall it and reboot my phone and it's back to normal.
I'm gonna dig in to this a bit after I get back from the gym.

I just meant that if you unroot the phone, make sure your radio's are updated to stock, update your profile and prl, then you could determine if it is hardware related or maybe you just have a bad signal?

I think he means Device Self Service. Updating your PRL, Firmware and Profile.
I forgot to mention that when my 3G becomes "sketchy" this is the 1st thing I do. After that do a soft-reset and pull the battery out.
##RTN# - enter MSL - click menu, reset.
This is the only way I've found to fix this.
It wipes out ALL of your information so make sure you are backed up and synced. It is just like getting the phone new out of the box - it will auto-activate and you should be good to go.
If you don't have your MSL, call Sprint technical support and ask for it.
Thats pretty disapointing that that seems to be the only awnser. Will try when iget back from my vacation. The problem that makes me really mad is that it reboots randomly even when the screen is off in my pocket. Any backup app recomendations?

IM RUNNING CALKS latest and greatest btw... Most all fixes get a fast lock, or at least a lock after a reboot. The REAL test is:will it still get a lock after, lets say, 8hrs? This is the only "fix" that has truly passed that test... Try it, and you will agree I like to open gps status and get a lock on satelites before i use my gps too, if that makes any difference.
This zip, plus GPS status works the best. Wipe dalvik and cache then flash away....
Best way to check is use GPS to get first lock and directions.... if that's good, then try to do the same thing a few hours later BEFORE A REBOOT.... works like a charm.... I finally think this one works guys... check this out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13140032&postcount=17953

I have been using GPS Status for a long time. I would do the same on my Epic...open GPS Status, let it lock then Maps and Telenav had much better and quicker lock. This is fixing my gps not working at all... Sometimes it would work off of several reboots.Same for my gf's et4g. i was tempted to exchange it for another et4g. I've had my phone since day 1, and gps has never worked consistenly.. Now it works flawlessly! Thanks again Angeldeath!!

i think the gps is very weak. i can never get a lock in my basement while my evos never had a problem. when im outside, my e4gt will get a lock eventually.
tried all kinda of fixes none work. though i think i must have borked it somehow. maybe a complete reformat will fix it but dont wanna do that any time soon

Depending on where you live should determine which zip you should download. And if you travel all over the u.s., just use the north american zip.(i recommend using the zip for the actual area that you live in)... Next, flash from recovery, then install GPS Status & Toolbox from the market.Turn on gps, open up gps status & toolbox, and select menu/settings/Display & Tools.. Then check "Show time to Gps fix"...keep gps status & toolbox open till sats are fixed..DONE. NOW I get immediate locks!!!
Anytime you reboot or power off, you have to open GPS Status to fix sats... THANKYOU ANGELDEATH and Xenova FOR THIS WONDERFUL GPS FIX THAT ACTUALLY WORKS FOR OUR PHONES!!!

this fix doesn't work
my phone was good until last week, now navigation never works, GPS takes 30-90 seconds to get a location within a few meters of me.
i've been trying everything, as many have been, and this fix only works for the first minute after using gps status. if i wait an hour and check maps again, i have to reset and re-download to get sats again and it still doesn't always work.
at this point i'm mildly convinced it's a hardware issue. unless a new driver is found, i'm going to try to get an exchange soon.
Edit:
Going back to square one (so far) has been a good fix - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351761
Edit 2:
Nope, going back to pure stock works as temporary as flashing regional GPS sats or clearing GPS cache

Some of those weather apps use the network location, not gps, and some display the nearest weather reporting station instead of your exact location. It all depends where the apps get its information from.
Beautiful widgets reported Dudley as location, the town next to me, probably using that tower. Weather Bug reports popular bluff airport, 25 miles away.

Can someone please post a review of how their GPS has been working on the FC20 and later versions of ICS build leaks? Also, does the NETWORK LOCATION actually update frequently?
QBKing77 said it was locking instantly, but wasn't really using it all that much it didn't sound like.
Anyone give a more indepth account of how GPS is behaving? Is it vastly improved over EL29? Good jesus I hope so, EL29 GPS is awful.
This wasn't specifically discussed in the 320+ pages of the FC24 post thread, sorry for starting a new post.
EDIT: Sorry for the mistitle of RC instead of FC20+. Phone typo. Got it right in the post though
RC20+? Where can I download this mighty rom sir?
Maybe he meant FC20+ rom.
I too would like to know this answer. Especially regarding network location updates. And yes, I could just flash it myself and try it out, but the multitude of bricks has scared me off...
Works freaking awesome. Locks fast and works like it should. Almost one hundred times better than EL29. You can flash the modem for FC22 and still keep your EL29 rom and kernel if you would like.
I am on FC18 and I have no complaints. It works perfectly for me.
Sorry guys,

I agree with the comment above. The GPS on FC18 and FC22 has been awesome. Locks and disconnects good as well when you are not using it and reconnects perfectly just in case you are driving through a tunnel or something no more having to reset your phone to reconnect to gps.
That's great to hear. The lock, loss and relock is the death sentence on EL29.
I'm very excited to see this is finally fixed. I might flash this in a couple days. This really is the last thing holding this phone from perfection.

Yes, I'm aware of the SprintID "clean". GGB launcher is not as nice as TW launcher, IMO. However, I like the look of the ICS launcher (which is more TW than GGB). The 5 docked icons (4 customizable) is nice. I also prefer the ICS method of making folders over the TW method.
My GPS started working with FC22. It did not work for me with any of the previous builds
i still have calkulins lastest gingerbread rom with FC22 modem and i thinks its been pretty darn good for me....locks inside are horrible though in my house, but once i step outside..i'd say around 20-30sec locks....sometimes earlier,
before i installed the ICS modems, i used EL29 modem and it workd ok, i was sorta sceptical before isntalling the FC modems, cause it took forever to get my GPS to lock on properly so i had this crazy idea...find a CELL PHONE TOWER..lol
there was this cell phone tower build in town around 20mins away where im at,
so i drove right by it, i was like 10 feet away from the tower and turn my GPS on...locked in secs...therefore after that..been working GREAT...lol even after i install all the new modems, just dont clear cache..
just my experience...
My GPS couldn't connect at all in any ICS ROM (I had tried several FB/FC builds). Then i finally did the "Flash to EL29, get GPS lock, flash to ICS ROM", and that fixed it. But I didn't use Nandroid at all.
I think that my Titanium Pro restore was overwriting something that was causing the GPS to break. This last time I did more of a selective restore of system data and it's still working.
I've been one of those horrid Epic GPS people for the longest time. I couldn't get locks after awhile no matter where I was, and what combo of gps.txt files that I used without a fresh reboot. And now the last few ICS iterations have been a night and day difference. I can get a lock, close it down, and a few hours later get a lock if needed in under a minute, sometimes in 10 seconds. The network location works great on the apps and pages that use it. Now granted the gps isn't as strong as my former HTC phones which would lock under water if needed (kidding, but almost true) it works much better then it ever has.... Although I hope they up the signal strength of the G3.
you should never use a restore from gb on ics... the programs are completely different

I want to retrack my statement above about the FC22 modem. I recently did a system wipe on my phone and consequently my GPS doesn't get a lock with FC22 inside of my house. The two best modems are FC18 and EL29, both of these modems consistently retain their GPS settings and get a lock from inside of my house rather quickly.

So maybe this isn't as promising of a modem. Rats.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
I was able to gain GPS lock in an ICS ROM without flashing a GB ROM. I performed this on Calk's E4GT2 1.2 ROM with FC22 Modem (FC18 kernal). I did a fresh install and confirmed that I was unable to get GPS lock in Google Maps and Nav.
I was able to achieve lock 100% of the time within 30 seconds after using this procedure. I got this idea from the way people have been tricking thier GPS to work: with a GB flash. I figured that here must be a GPS cache or buffer that is holding data - but I am no expert.
You will need these apps: GPS Status (market), FasterFix (forums or market), and TeleNav GPS (backup from Sprint ROM or maybe market (IDK)).
At each step of this procedure, see if you are getting lock in Maps/Nav. If so, good for you. If not keep following the procedure.
1) First, see if you are getting lock in Google Maps/Nav (duh).
2) Install the apps.
3) Trick #1: Use FasterFix to set the North American Server (try for lock).
4) Trick#2: Load GPS Status go to Menu>Tools>Manage A-GPS state. There are two options. "Reset" is likely not useful. "Download" installs helper data into your GPS cache. Use this Download feature. (try for lock).
5) Trick#3 Load TeleNav GPS. Input an address and start navigation. The status bar at the bottom should say "WEAK GPS." This will go away eventually as TeleNav GPS achieves lock.
6) Trick #4 At this point, I was able to get lock in Google Maps/Nav right away. Later, I wasn't able to get lock. I did the procedure above and let Google Navigation continually stay locked for 5 minutes or more (to get data in the GPS cache) and moved around (just around my building). After this I was able to get lock 100% of the time in different locations, all several miles apart.
I am guessing that this works because TeleNav GPS is a better GPS program than Google Nav and uses the GPS radios more effectively. You should be able to use TeleNav GPS for Trick #4, too (getting data into the GPS cache).
Of course, the advantage to this method is that you don't have to flash any ROMS. Less flashing means less likelihood of getting a bricked phone. The disadvantage is that it takes a bit of time.
I look forward to seeing if anyone else can get this method to work. I also look forward to any comments on the technical aspects of this.

if you have gps lock on a GB rom and then flash over to ICS it seems to solve the issues people were having getting/keeping lock on ICS, its an older solution from the ICS leaks but it works, for whatever reason...
Ok so I'm starting this thread so that maybe it can help somebody who is having gps issues. What I did was flash The ported Synergy Rom. And as soon as I set up the Rom my gps started working. As soon as I opened maps it immediately starting searching for gps and then locked in a couple of seconds. Before when I would open maps I wouldnt even get the "searching using gps " in the notification bar. Haven't tried flashing another rom to see if it sticks so if any of you try this let me know how it works out for you. Im not guaranteeing it will work for you but hey it's worth a shot.
EDIT: My bad, I meant to post this in General. If a mod could move it that be great. Thanks
EDIT #2: Flashed back to Frosty and Gps still works great!
