Is there a program called "gps status" installed on your phone? I'm curious because I've seen a lot of people mention gps problems and also mention that app at the same time.
I used that app to use tools reset then reboot and that did not work

You can try this to see if it works.
1. Uninstall GPS Status
2. On your phone, go to Settings>Applications>Manage applications>All>Maps and then click on Clear data
3. Reboot into Clockworkmod recovery
4. Clear cache and Dalvik Cache
5. Reboot
6. Start Maps first before anything else.
Hope that works for you!

There are known issues with CM7, namely GPS issues; everyone is at a bit of a loss as to the actual cause which is causing the delay in fixing.
Your best option, if you need GPS, is to use a stable ROM and not an RC or nightly (as CM7 is); RCs and nightlies are known to have issues, they are released by the devs in order for the more tech savvy users to help them find bugs.

This. And OP you should go check out the nightly thread for CM7 and post there. There is a good 2 pages of discussion per nightly on JUST the GPS issues everyone is having lol. You'll get more precise answers and help there.
I am now using Ginger Villain 1.5 ROM and my GPS lock comes in seconds., Thank you so much for everyone who helped me find a solution. This is a very big relief to me. Thanks again!!
For some reason, no matter which roms I use the Navigation doesn't seem to work though. I've tried MIUI, Virtuous, CM7, and I even reverted back to stock rom I backed up and the navigation never seems to detect my gps. In maps, the GPS locks my location fine, but turn by turn direction doesn't seem to work.
Could someone maybe point me in the right direction?

Are you sure you are using GPS in maps and not your WIFI (which is mapped by google...) to position yourself?
Turn WIFI off, get outside in the middle of your garden and then start maps. Does it position you to the spot or does it stay inaccurate? If it's the latter, your GPS never (?) worked and you got positioned by the location of your WIFI.
What is your radio version (26.0x.xx.xx) and which ROM are you on exactly?
GPS fix? Try flashing radio.
Had the exact same issue, found that all my GPS issues were tied to radio. Flash back to most recent stock version and see if that fixes it. Worked right away for me, regardless of GPS Status, cache cleansing, etc. YMMV

Using my HSPA network (no wifi) and Google Maps "My Location", the accuracy is 600 meters. I'm not sure if that's considered working, but the most frustrating part is that Navigation always just says Searching for GPS. I started off from stock radio radio rom post OTA, then tried to flash:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959488
People said it helped, but tt didn't. Now I'm back on the one listed as "Vision_RADIO_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26" at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970809.
Rom is currently QND MIUI 1.3.5 version 1.3. But liked I said, none of the roms seems to be working. Any help would be appreciated.
Edit: I just realized what you meant. I turned off the "Use Wireless Network Feature" and my GPS DOESN'T work! Any way to fix this???

Flashed latest radio and got instant GPS lock (8 satellites) on CM7 nightly #15. Didn't work before with shipping radio.
Latest radio I'm using btw is 12.28h.60.140f_26.06.02.27
Also, ymmv, I've heard some people saying they got big battery drains going to the latest radio, and also some had the same result going to the AUS radio (which apparently has good service).
@symbolism: Ugh, I have no idea about MIUI, but the latest radio does/should fix GPS problems on the latest CM7 nightlies. Anyone else experiencing the same on MIUI in any of the MIUI threads...?
@martonikaj: the AUS radio *is* the latest radio It's the 26.06.something... And I'm one of those experiencing excessive battery drain. It seems to be the connection to the network (Network standby) which sucks my battery empty...

I was able to gain GPS lock in an ICS ROM without flashing a GB ROM. I performed this on Calk's E4GT2 1.2 ROM with FC22 Modem (FC18 kernal). I did a fresh install and confirmed that I was unable to get GPS lock in Google Maps and Nav.
I was able to achieve lock 100% of the time within 30 seconds after using this procedure. I got this idea from the way people have been tricking thier GPS to work: with a GB flash. I figured that here must be a GPS cache or buffer that is holding data - but I am no expert.
You will need these apps: GPS Status (market), FasterFix (forums or market), and TeleNav GPS (backup from Sprint ROM or maybe market (IDK)).
At each step of this procedure, see if you are getting lock in Maps/Nav. If so, good for you. If not keep following the procedure.
1) First, see if you are getting lock in Google Maps/Nav (duh).
2) Install the apps.
3) Trick #1: Use FasterFix to set the North American Server (try for lock).
4) Trick#2: Load GPS Status go to Menu>Tools>Manage A-GPS state. There are two options. "Reset" is likely not useful. "Download" installs helper data into your GPS cache. Use this Download feature. (try for lock).
5) Trick#3 Load TeleNav GPS. Input an address and start navigation. The status bar at the bottom should say "WEAK GPS." This will go away eventually as TeleNav GPS achieves lock.
6) Trick #4 At this point, I was able to get lock in Google Maps/Nav right away. Later, I wasn't able to get lock. I did the procedure above and let Google Navigation continually stay locked for 5 minutes or more (to get data in the GPS cache) and moved around (just around my building). After this I was able to get lock 100% of the time in different locations, all several miles apart.
I am guessing that this works because TeleNav GPS is a better GPS program than Google Nav and uses the GPS radios more effectively. You should be able to use TeleNav GPS for Trick #4, too (getting data into the GPS cache).
Of course, the advantage to this method is that you don't have to flash any ROMS. Less flashing means less likelihood of getting a bricked phone. The disadvantage is that it takes a bit of time.
I look forward to seeing if anyone else can get this method to work. I also look forward to any comments on the technical aspects of this.
Interesting. I've always just made sure I got a lock before flashing ICS.works every time lol.

I flashed a GPS fix zip a few Weeks ago that I found on the blazer ROM thread that worked nicely. if you have gps lock on a GB rom and then flash over to ICS it seems to solve the issues people were having getting/keeping lock on ICS, its an older solution from the ICS leaks but it works, for whatever reason...
One day my gps on my Evo stopped working properly and I've been trying to diagnose it with no luck. I was using a CM9 rom for a couple months when I noticed it and I hadn't made any recent changes.
So far I've tried different roms, kernals, patches, and even reverted to stock. I took it to the Sprint store with the stock rom and the tech there couldn't find anything wrong with the gps other than it not locking. He said if it was faulty hardware the gps wouldn't even appear. He actually recommended that I try another kernel or rom, which I've done to no avail.
I flashed the same rom I'm using now, MazWoz B4, onto my other Evo which isn't activated, just hooked up to wifi, and I downloaded GPS Status onto both. I've attached a screenshot with a side by side.
On my bad evo I get no less than 40 meters of accuracy in google maps. On the good evo it's 4 meters.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
lol sell the bad EVO to a dev XP
Keeding. Could be screwed, man. I personally don't know a fix, and if flashing a new kernel and ROM didn't work, it may be broken. But I know nothing of things that technical, hope someone who knows their stuff helps you out.

Thanks for the reply. I've put a lot of work into this little guy to determine a fix for the gps and I just don't want to give up yet! I'm up for renewal but I'd rather keep this thing going and wait until the S4 or another nexus phone comes along. With all the devs out there cranking out roms I don't think it's that difficult to hold off but this gps thing is a killer since no navigation or fitness apps will lock.

Gotta go back to a sense rom for that. Pretty sure I tried that when I first started troubleshooting but it's worth a shot again. I'll report back in a few. Thanks!
I flashed a sense rom and put in the ##4772579#, entered in my MSL which I have grabbed previously, and I'm still getting a huge gps level of error. Even though it says I'm connected to 6/6 sats, I am still only 40 meters in google maps and moving all over the place as it tries to find me. I'm testing outside right where my good evo gets gps within 4 meters.
How the hell do I get Google navigation to give me turn by turn real time directions? I did a clean flash of wild for the night 3/8 version. Maps sees my location pretty close, and if I type a destination it will give me directions, just can't get it to go turn by turn, what am I doing wrong?

My friend had this problem. The only thing that fixed it was to download the app "gps status", turn on gps, open the app, hit menu, then tools then clear gps state. Then hit download gps data. Reboot
Tried that, all it says is GPS looking for location... thus sucks

Try this.
Search, read. Then search some more.
There are SO many posts about GPS issues it's silly. I personally have made dozens.
Right now I'm on Stock Rooted GB08, with GB27 modem and GB08 Agat/Garwynn repacked Kernel. And my GPS does work and most importantly will "stop searching for GPS data...." when I close my applicatins now.
And my GPS apps do work outside too.
You may find what you are looking for but probably won't be handed the answer you're looking for.
This phone has been well known to have horrible radios and gps.
On any aosp rom I have to first use a touchwiz based ics one click and get a gps lock. I then power off the phone with gps running and odin el26 then flash the aosp rom. I always make sure to get a gps lock again before the first reboot of the aosp rom. It sounds dumb and time consuming but it works.
I actually got a lock in GPS status. Had to be outside. All is good now. Cleared the data and then re downloaded...got a lock in 2 seconds

I wonder how true this is. I've never resolved my GPS locking issues either, but never knew anyone with an unrooted phone to compare against. I've had the same behavior with my previous phone(Sprint HTC Hero). It's been going on long enough where I stopped looking for reliable solutions.
Typically, GPS will work great for me after a reboot, even indoors at times. After a day or two, it will fail to lock when needed. I can use an app like GPS Status to reset the agps data, but I have to do it every time I need GPS service if it's been over a few hours since the last time I reset the data with the app. When I get sick of having to use the app to reset data and get a lock before using the app I want, I will do another reboot in hopes to get a longer period before having to use the app again. Many of the fixes I've attempted seem to work at first, but the problem comes back. It's hard to tell if the given fix did anything or if the reboot during the install of the fix is what helped for a short time. I wish apps had the option to automatically reset agps data when being launched, but I'm guessing there's good reason for not doing that. I admit I don't really know what's going on in the background to validate that consideration.
If you are never getting any gps locks at all, and you've tried using the recommended apps to reset your agps data, then you may have other issues. I was running into this after installing a ROM and forgetting to install the required modem. However, that was a much more obvious issue. If you're having GPS issues, I think it's worth noting whether or not you've had any successful locks with your current rom, or if things have become unreliable in situations that used to work. I'm just curious if others share the same experience as me. For those that are used to using an app like GPS Status, how often do you need to reset the data before using a gps app?
Head over to Exit_Only's thread and check out some of his awesome tweaks. But this should help. I know it worked wonders for me. It's from his post. Please thank him, he's been great with updates as well. Check under "Add ons".

Try it a couple times with a few reboots. If that doesnt work. Try flashing wild for the night 2/15. And try again. If thats a no go then try flashing back to stock.
If at first you dont succeed. Try, try again.
If you still dont succeed, then its prolly time for a new phone
Q: I am running AOSP/AOKP/CM based rom and my data is slow. Also my 3g/4g is not working. Oh yeah and I never get a GPS lock. I don't want to go back to stock touchwiz! Please HELP!!!
A: Well you can't update profile and prl using AOSP/AOKP/CM based rom and it has to be done from touchwiz based roms. But there is some good news. You can temp boot to stock EL29 rom and do whatever you want to such as use dialcodes, update profile/prl etc. Temp boot means that you will be able to boot 1 time to EL29 and then next time you boot, you will be back on whatever rom you were on. Follow this simple video to do this.

Hi all,
I just bought a slightly used Note 2 yesterday. Today, I tested the GPS and put it side by side
with a Galaxy S2 and my old gs2 picked up the GPS just fine, but the Note 2 did not even pick
up a single satellite even after 30 minutes. The GS2 picked up all satellites in 30 seconds sitting
right next to it.
I turned on GPS and use wifi/network location too.
This is a stock unrooted Note 2 running 4.1.2 stock OS.
Is there anything else I can do and try? I'm desperate. I searched and read all the posts on google and here
and found no solution.
Thank you

Mine was unrooted and running stock 4.1.2. Are you saying that the problem is in the stock OS?
Is this a common problem? Which stock version I need to go back to?
Thank you.
No not a problem with stock. If you haven't flashed anything to your phone then I highly doubt its a software conflict. I've read on some Samsung phones the small screws on the back of the phone become loose causing no gps signal. You could try tightening them to see if that helps. My gps failed because I flashed a Verizon note 2 rom that I've used in the past but the newest version doesn't seem to play well. The stock version I flashed was from January. You can find all the stock roms in the development section here.

I tried the screws and they were all tight. I guess I will have to try different rom...
My GPS couldn't even find a single satellite sitting outdoor...
I would flash back to an earlier stock version and then update to the latest version and see if that fixes it. Just backup your data/apps/pictures first because you'll lose everything on your internal storage when you flash a stock rom with odin.

Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 4
I turned the GPs on while the app was open and saw the Gps indicator light up then I immediately opened maps and let it lock on my location I guess in my case it just kicked the gps in the pants I haven't had any problems since.
From the D's GN2
Did the gps test app show the number of satellites it locked on? Google map may not be a good indication because it uses wifi/data to locate you if it couldn't find satellite. Try something like 'GPS Test' to verify the number of satellite it locked on.

- just to make sure nothing else conflicts, I did a factory reset. It's running stock JB 4.1.2. Unrooted. Stock recovery.
- when I turned on GPS in setting and started google map, the GPS icon on the status bar did not even display
and of course google map could not get a fix on my location. This is outdoor. To be sure that my test location was good, I put my wife's Galaxy S2 next to it and turn on both. The S2 acquired position under 30 seconds with 14 satellites.
- i d/l GPS Test and it did not show any satellite
- I d/l GPS Status Toolbox and it did not fix it
- I d/l "TopNTP" to clear/download AGPS data and it did not fix it.
- I then sent it back to Samsung. The repair log said:
"problem found: cannot download sw/PRL. Solution: updated s/w. Reset. Quality Control passed. "
(when I saw 'cannot download sw/PRL', I googled it and I already suspected that it wouldn't be fixed. As most people
I found on google when they sent a phone back to Samsung all have this line "cannot download sw/PRL')
I got it back after 7 days and it was exactly as before I sent it out. Same firmware version, same OS version, same everything. True enough, same problem. How competent can they be? I stated that the problem is "GPS could not acquire satellite". How hard was it to test it? Just turn it on, turn on GPS in settings, run google map. Their quality control couldn't even do that and signed it off.
I called them again and I'm sending it back again. This is getting frustrated.
I still have the gut feeling that this is not a hardware problem, but what else I can try? I tried everything.
What are my options if they still can't fix it 2nd time? It's still under warranty (for another month).
Thanks.

Problem solved!!!!!!
I have a Note 2. The GPS did not work. No white circle on the status bar when GPS is turned on and it did not pick up any satellite. I tried everything including factory reset, restore OEM ROM from sammobile and nothing worked. I sent it back to samsung. The 1st time they updated some sw and sent it back to me. Nothing changed. Not working. I sent it back the 2nd time. they replaced some power management chips. I got it this morning and it did not work either. I called Samsung again and they remotely accessed my Note 2 and they couldn't figure out so they asked me to send it back the 3rd time. I selected it, it restored the NV from default and it rebooted by itself. When it came back, everything worked!!!!!
Before I tried this, I was l already on the phone with Samsung tech support for 2 hours and they even remotely access my Note 2 and they could not figure it out!!!
