CM 10 Clock Speed - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

So I have recently installed CM 10 on my S3 and I'm loving it. However i am a bit worried. The S3 is said to run at 1400 Mhz or 1.4 Ghz. But when I go into settings then performance, the max is set to 1512 Mhz and I didn't touch anything! CM sets it to this by default. My question is does Cyanogenmod overclock your device? Or is that the clock speed that S3 really runs on? My phone has also been getting hot lately but I'm not sure if that has to do with anything at all. Any help is Greatly appreciated!!!

1400 mhz is the max stock clock frequency on the international version (i9300) and 1512 mhz is the stock max freq for the at&t version (i747).
I haven't had any issues with heat. Try running an app to check the CPU temp.

Also how is or battery life? I know when my phone gets hot its because something is eating my battery. I by some controls on said apps and I am running at 1.9 with ko heat issues

The battery life is great I'm not sure why its getting hot

I would use better battery stats just to see what is accessing or CPU. Also u may wipe and do a fresh full clean install. Like I said I have mine over clocked to 1.9 with no undervolting with no issue. But also keep in mind every phone is different.

For me the 1.9 ghz kernel is a bit unstable for every day use . But oc at 1.5cm kernel works much better and 100% sable and battery friendly if you use profile in setcpu.

I have to say. If you gotta ask dont do it! Make sure you setup good profiles for heat or you run a serious risk of frying your phone! Good luck some people got lucky and have no problems running 1.9. My phone has no problem with that speed until for some reason i have yet to discover somthing makes it heat up at random times. After that happened a few times i decided 1.5 is plenty.

I thinks it's underclocked @ 1.9Mhz
Root the phone
Install ROM Manager from the Android Market
In ROM Manager, flash Clockworkmod Recovery
Also in ROM Manager, backup ROM ("nandroid" backup)
Download the kernel and put it on the SD card.
Flash kernel from Recovery
Get SetCPU or CPU Tuner to set the CPU clock
As already mentioned, if you want to OC that high, SetCPU profiles with temp failsafes, etc. are a must. You might want to start with lower CPU clock speeds.
If you need more guides on how to get this done:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916431
The Wiki guide is considered the safest way to root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
kernel manager has it.
Yeah, it does. Unfortunately for me, it's stable for less than five blazingly-fast minutes Guess I'll stay at 1.5!
I think for a phone that was clocked at 800, 1.9 is far too risky. I have no factual basis to say that, just seems like common sense.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
^I agree^ That doesn't seem logical....
I can't see OC our phones to 1.9 being good on any level. Seems like were trying to push the hardware a bit too far.
Is that how people are able to get Quadrant scores in the 2000+? I can't seem to get that high at all. I have been using pershoot's kernel with CM7...but now on nightly #91- using stock kernel now. I have been cautious on trying out this one...

Why would you want to clock it down to 1.9 MHz when the stock speed is 800 MHz? Even an XT-8086 ran at 5-10 MHz. An 8080 (the year was 1974) ran at 2.0 MHz.....

As for quadrant, my DZ easily hits an average of 2100+ when OCed to 1.3GHz using Virtuous G-Lite 1.0.2. I really don't trust those benchmarks though, as long as the battery lasts and the UI is smooth, I can't really complain.

Is something driving up your CPU usage? The fastest way to check that might be to see what's draining your phone's battery using the usual methods.

I had same problem. For me the fix was getting LeanKernel 2.0.
4 hrs screen on time! Its the best for my phone. Since all kernels are device specific it might not be best for you.
To get it go to T-Mobile gs3 go to original dev and download lean kernel 2.0. Make sure its 2.0.
T-Mobile and AT&T work the same. If you use one of the other 4.2 ROMs on here I think Liquid smooth it comes with Lean kernel pre installed.

If that kernel doesnt work for you, you can always try Ktoonsez kernel here:

But for me personally, his kernel and the stock kernel that comes with Task's ROM always make my phone hot and battery drains faster. But many people report those kernels work great for them.

No no. Like it would randomly change the setting to 1.9/1.8 ghz max. Sometimes it would set the max to 1.1 ghz. I donno, it was weird. Maybe that's your problem, maybe not. Every phone is different.

The same thing happens to me. It's not really hot, it's just kind of warm. It only happens when I'm using the phone, when it's locked it sleeps just fine and keeps cool. Otherwise it heats up and drains my battery in the process. CPU Spy shows my clock speed switches between 384Mhz and 1.5 Ghz depending on what I'm doing. My CPU usage isn't consistently high, even if its at 10% it still does it, seems quite normal. I can turn off data, wifi, bluetooth, and location services, doesn't help at all. I've tried resetting my battery stats, where I charged to 100%, cleared stats, depleted fully, then charged too 100% fully. No different. The heat comes from the bottom of the phone, maybe closer to the right side about an inch from the bottom, it is not coming from the battery. My battery usage shows high usage on the Media process or the Android System process. Ending either of them does not help, so I'm assuming they aren't actually using the battery like it says they are.
I'm running Liquid Smooth 4.2 beta 2, same as OP, with leankernel 2.2. It does the same thing with KT kernel, I've tried undervolting but it persists. I've also had this issue running slimbean, Liquidsmooth RC8, and RC9. My battery was pretty good when I used to run stock, and it was absolutely amazing when I ran LiquidSmooth RC3 and RC5.

[Q] CPU runs mostly at 1600mhz when using 4.1.2 custom roms

I've tried Omega 10 with perseus 30.1, 31.2 kernel and my CPU runs mostly at 1600mhz. I used to think that problem was related to the kernel, but now I'm using ARHD 8.0 with its stock kernel and the problem is still existing. I have also full wiped even /sdcard, but it didn't help. I've used 4.1.2 stock kernel and perseus kernel 29.1 before, and the problem was not there.
Can anyone tell me what is the cause of the problem?
Thanks.
try using uneak v 1.4 kernel....and set the cpu slider to the amount of Mhz you wish...try using another cpu govenor.
i think you are using the performance gov.
i hope it could solve your problem dude
Thank you guy, but I've not change any settings such as governor (it was pegasusq all time)
Mine does as well, but yet battery life is still pretty good. I wouldn't worry about it, as when it's not actively doing anything it will quickly throttle down, not to mention the other cores.

[Q] kernals for GPU OC?

Hey. I'm using the rooted stock jelly bean ROM with KT747 on my i747m. I'm wondering if there is a nice stable kernal for the i747 on stock ROM that would allow me to overclock the GPU a bit. I got my phone stable 2.1GHz at 1250mV and now the GPU is really holding me back in NFS:MW, dead trigger, NOVA 3, etc.
Is 2.1GHz at 1250mV a good OC? I noticed the default voltage for 2.1 was much higher. I had it stable at 1240mV (tested with setCPU, antutu, stability test 2.7) and ran it all day without any problems but I bumped it up 10mV just to be safe.
Thanks.
GPU OCs have been proven to not help. It actually hurts sometimes.

Any GPU Overclocking Kernels for...

I recently flashed the KT747 for a super fast 2.1mHz CPU overclock. But then after flashing I realized it doesn't overclock the GPU that much.
Are there any kernels that can overclock the GPU to about 700mHz?
-Thanks for any help!
Sorry for CyanogenMod 10.1 (d2att) nightly ROM.
Does the new SiyahKernel work with the ATT Galaxy S3 running CM10.1 nightly?
Ah stupid me I meant 2.1ghz or 2106mHz CPU overclock.
I don't think any kernels do GPU OC, because it has shown to cause more problems than it is worth. That's just what I remember KT saying.

Most custom kernels if not all already have GPU OCd to 450mhz
Over clocking the GPU on a GS3 is not needed and even with it over clocked, you wouldn't tell the difference. It also leads to issues and battery drainage.
The S3 doesn't need OC at all 1.2Gz with 2Gz of ram leaves no place for lag.

I haven't had any lag whatsoever at any point that I've had my S3. Try reflashing your rom and completely wiping. Also try a different kernel and kernel settings.
This phone shouldn't lag at all. Maybe a little on TouchWiz but never on AOSP

My s3 lags at 2.1 GHz too. Try it at 1.6 or 1.7 GHz or change governor settings to a faster ramp up one.
