Unroot.. - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK so I am trying to unroot my dads phone to take it back into sprint.. I ran the ruu pc36img and the ROM is still there.... am I suppose to down grade the hboot from 2.18 to something else to get it back to stock... I did accidently turned it back to s-on already... I'm thinking I need to root it back and s-off then run the hexhboot then run the ruu am I right..

no help????

There are threads on here that tell you how to do it. Just Google the hboot version with unroot and you will find what you need. Or check captian throwbacks signature I believe he has a guide also.

I did his guide but it didn't exactly work.. I am rooting it again and turning s-off and then trying it again

I got it... Followed the steps in the right order this time...

Oh really? Who would have figured it would work correctly if you only followed the directions?

Would this work?

I recently lost my Wimax keys and I was thinking if I flashed back to a froyo Rom and went in and took the ota update to break root and turn it in saying that since the update my 4g hasn't been working and demand a replacement phone with 2.2 on because I hated 2.3 and it was glitchy. Any input on if that would work?

Lol it actually seems like a good plan bro but don't they have a way to find out if you've rooted ur phone. Try it but make sure to unroot completely and in bootloader make sure to flash it to s-off.

To unroot, you simply, download and flash the unrevoked s-on zip in recovery, you'll be s-on and can't flash, ect, so do that first, then flash a 3.70 RUU [PC36IMG to make it easy]. Though I think the sprint rep will tell you they can't control what firmware is on the evo, so you could get stuck with a 2.3.

S-on and S-off?

Can someone please explain what s on and s off means. I see it on a lot of threads but have no idea what it means.

S = security when its on you need a signed ruu or zip from HTC. But the new bootloader that shipped with the gingerbread update won't allow downgrading to a previous bootloader. With it off you can flash a custom backup utility like amon clockwork or twrp
To install custom roms
S on or off is basicly a security check

Nope, stock was nice and stable. I then used the froyo exploit (z8 or something?), installed rom manager and flashed the zip file from Unrevoked and was back to s-off.

Phone issue

My phone crashed and I don't have a computer near me I can use to install cwm recovery. Is there a way to install custom recovery without a computer for Dinc2? I've seen other phones but couldn't find anything on our forums. Thanks in advance.

What do you mean by crashed?

Started bootlooping. I had PG32IMG on sdcard so I got phone to start by using that. If I restart the phone it starts bootlooping again. If I can get recovery I'm going to flash another Rom to see if that works

I just downloaded terminal emulator but can't get Su since I dont have root just revo unlocked bootloader
Sent from my ADR6350 using xda app-developers app
First...this should be in the Q&A or General thread.
Second, in either the Q&A or General thread I believe there was a thread not long ago about how to install CWM straight from the phone, so you might do a little searching to find that one. I don't have the link to it, but it wasn't long ago, so it shouldn't be hard to find.
Okay. If someone can move the thread to proper forums that would be awesome. Sorry about putting in wrong section.

Yes it won't let me run Su it says I'm not rooted. Busybox says im rooted and then fails to install. I just pushed recovery last night with computer

I slightly remember seeing a similar problem somewhere when I rooted my phone. I want to say they had to uninstall su and all files from it on SD card and reinstall it. Maybe this will help.
