Defender Echo looking for a solution - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

Sprint titanium phone, while on stock echos some, on jellybomb real bad echos. I was looking for anyone that has eliminated this problem, tried 3 different Defender cases, all with the same results. Any suggestions?

What do you mean echoes? Like your voice in call? And what is a defender? Like otter box?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium

Otterbox. The person on the other end of the line hears themselves talk.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app

I don't have this problem but have you checked your mic? Like make the call without a case and see if it stops or a different case?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium

Does not do it with any other case I own. Or without the case it does not do it
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app

Hmm... tried calling otter box? I'm not having this issue with mine
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium

I have tried multiple otterbox cases. I believe it is back feeding through the mic
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app

No echoes with the same case either. Maybe a bad phone?

I've had the same echo from time to time...I also have a defender. I think your correct when you say its a feedback, kinda like placing a mic too close to the speaker. I believe it also resonates through the hard plastic skeleton and creates an echo occasionally. I've thought about placing a small o-ring type gasket around the mic port to create a better seal between the phone and case, possibly eliminate the echo?

It's Otterbox's poor design of the case. The gap between the built in screen protector and the screen allows the audio to pass thru and feedback to the mic. The only solution is turn your in call volume down and enable the background noise eliminator option, remove the screen protector or don't use the case.

Someone said they were using rain ex, this sounds similar. I just checked it out , seems the local sprawl-mart has it. The website pic want that black bottle in your link, but the description was nearly identical. 20 bucks and its in stock. I'm gonna pick some up and try it out on my old galaxy s phone first. I'll report back after the Patriots whoop Arizona.
I read about using RainX as well so I have decided to give it a try since I already had a bottle in the garage. So far it has created a very smooth and slick surface. It has also kept the fingerprints off, but I have only started using it. I will let you all know how it works out.

Car wax? Can't say I've heard of that one! But have used RainX on old TF101. Worked all right but needed re-applying after a while. And one didn't get the "added protection" of a film.

I tried the RainX but was not to impressed with its durability. As much as I use my tablet I would have to reapply almost daily. Which sucks considering the time it takes to apply then remove the haze.

Anyone not have their SIII in a case?

Just curious. I got my SIII on the 29th and haven't bothered with a case yet. My previous phone was an archaic Motorola Razr V3m that I had for 5 years and in that time I only dropped it a couple times on the carpet, and once it hit my closet door track which did put a ding on it. I'm thinking of just forgoing a case.
Only have ghost armor in mine. No hard case.
Dropped quite a few times. Usually just the battery case pops off in the harder falls. One fall left an slight dent that I didn't even notice till later.
Have dropped on sides and front. No screen cracks yet. No scratches...only because of the skin that covers the full body.

I drop my phone like everyday so I cant take that risk .
I have 2 wallet cases even to protect my screen

Never bother with cases, bulky, ugly and unpractical. Had everything from a Nokia to iPhone 4s. Dropped all at least once when getting out of the car with my good luck none ever broke just a chip lol. However a screen protector is a must for resale value, most people don't care about the back.

I've just recently noticed that they're 3 dark spots behind the glass myself. I only noticed it while I was flashing a ROM and it got stuck on just a black screen but was still illuminated. Wonder what that can be. I haven't dropped this phone that i can recall.

This was a common issue with the t989(s2) right out of the box it's a defect call T-Mobile and get a free warranty replacement. Probably shouldn't mention the drop although pretty sure that has nothing to do with it as I'm on my second s3 and they have both had dark spots. It took me three tries to get a perfect s2

Yeah I plan on keeping mine for a while at least when my manufactures warranty is coming to an end I'll have a legit reason to get a brand new/refurb phone.
Yea those dark spots were bad on the t989 actually very bad. The gs3 is a long way from that but this is definitely the result of their amoled screen
I'm using a D30 case from T-Mobile but I have never dropped my phone, I rarely leave it out unless it's on the charger when I'm in bed. I don't get how people don't protect their devices in some way.
The glass of this phone seems to cracked too easily, so I bought a case for this phone. This is the first phone I ever feel that need a case. I had the galaxy s and the iphone 4 and both were never in a case.

I bought the GS3 at full price no contract or upgrade, I'm not trying to tell anyone how to take care of their things but if anyone is willing to just throw away 650$ because not having a case on their device is restricting then my hands are willing to catch it lol.

caution

Guys put a case on your note 2. A case that is in a higher altitude then your screen. if not and you drop it once on the screen or any of the corner, the screen will crack. I dropped it once and it cracked. :crying:
Guys. Put a case on any smartphone that has a glass screen. If you drop it on its face or corner it will likely smash.
Its common sense. Like driving a car drunk. You might make it to your destination safe but your likely going to crash.
Not trying to be an ass, but if you want a phone that doesn't smash get a flip phone

That's really neat technology, but I wouldn't do it to the phone I paid $600 for. To be honest, water damage is the least of my concerns. I'm far more likely to drop it on pavement or gravel.

I sure hope you weren't a can of hydrophobic solution!
I remember seeing the first videos for this and thought it seems awesome. Many kinds of possibilities for the stuff. Just wondering how clear of a coating this stuff is, if it'll affect the touch sensitivity much, heat dissipation, and if it'll muffle the speakers and mic.

What about the connectors for battery, sd and sim cards, headphone jack, usb port.....I'm assuming you'd have to scrape the stuff off of where ever there needs to be bare metal for a connection. If anyone does this be extremely careful of the usb/charging port! It can be easily damaged. And this stuff probably won't be easy to get out of a headphone jack if it blocks the connection.
I'm also curious about the effect it has on the sound, but more importantly the mic. Will others be able to hear you as well?
I'm cautiously optimistic with this stuff. It is awesome, but for a smart phone, I don't know. Kinda wonder if they were just using it as an extreme demonstration, like the guy with a screen door in the bottom of the boat. Sure it can be done, but it is never actually recommended you do so.
Not trying to be a downer, just thinking of all the angles to look at before doing a $600 test. Be careful! And good luck! I really do hope it works w/o any issues!
Oh and someone asked about touchscreen sensitivity. They did not apply it to the screen.
