Hi, all. I picked up a new GSII from USCC a few days ago and I wondered what exactly has to be done to port CWM and/or roms from the E4GT to our phone. I'm hoping that the process will be fairly simple since our GSII is identical to the E4GT, excluding the WiMax radio.
Bear in mind that I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 before you give me Windows answers. But any and all help is appreciated. Your positivity could be the help I need to become a real dev.
Until you guys get a kernel source drop (Sammy's too busy violating the GPL... again...), it'll be difficult to know what is and is not actually different.
You may get lucky and it'll primarily be a kernel swap and maybe a RIL swap - but not guaranteed.
Source has dropped on Samsung site https://opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=list&menu_item=mobile&classification1=mobile_phone under SCH-R760U. Anyone give us some help on this, I'm also willing to give some porting a go, just need a little kick in the right direction.
Now that we have an AOSP base to work from, I would like to try to try poring a rom or two over... I ported a rom for the Epic 4g, but it was fairly cut and paste... just wondering if porting for the LGOG will give any trouble with EFS or anything else, willing to give it a try this weekend though if I have some time, I wanna see how pacman runs on here... I'm assuming that I can pull most roms from the N4... any heads up would be appreciated though...

Can't answer this, but I'm very excited to see ports starting!
Hello AT&T SG3 User(s),
I have created Samsung One 3 a PORT of HTC One to Samsung galaxy s3,
I had a report of a XDA Member that it worked on his att sg3, so i need an att beta tester to test this for me,
because if this is true than porting it to the SG3 International might be easier ( Hopefully ), and ofcource will i make some fixes for the att sg3 if this works
Original Topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2284615
Download Link to Dev Test v1.5.1: removed
Reason why it will work faster on SG3 att than international is because of the chips
Samsung Galaxy s3 International: 1.40GHz Exynos 4412 (ARM Cortex A9 + Mali 400MP)
Samsung Galaxy s3 AT&T: 1.50GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4
HTC One: 1.70GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600
Pleas tell me if it works or not

First, your zip will not flash because you have a folder in another folder.
Second, you had better change the mount points in your updater-script before you brick someone's device.
downloading now, I'll let you know after I nandroid and flash.
Regards,
C.
Thank Upndwn4par, I'll hold off for now.. lol.. I was gonna look at the zip b4 anyway.

Listen,
I understand you want to be innovative and bring new things here but this should be done internally. You should NOT release something like this on an open forum where most people don't read and follow directions. Also, releasing something you won't flash or can't flash yourself is just bad practice. While this isn't your fault, being a dev you should know this. This is brick after brick waiting to happen. I'm not being a hater as I appreciate what you are trying to do but this is just a bad idea.

I'm not staying stop. By all means, continue, as I really love sense but make it for a device you can test on first and then move it here. Do a lot more internal testing. One person is not a large enough group of people. I'm happy to see people trying new things. In fact, if you get it to the point where it boots on your device and you port it here PM me, I'll test it for you. I hate being the guy to say this as I don't want to kill ambition, I just don't want to see people with $600 dollar paper weights.

I was so beyond elated when I got my Galaxy Note 8 (N5110) last night... couldn't want to flash this puppy and ROM it with some Cyanogen loveliness; but to my incredible surprise, I can't find any custom ROMs that don't have the Touch Wiz crap on it. WTH? This tablet was highly rated and I know it's not abscure so I'm wondering why there's so little development on this little wonderous machine. Ideas? Links that I've missed? Winning lottery numbers? All are welcome.
instead of asking what are others plan on doibg for your tablet wouldn't it be morw productive to ask and learn how to do it yourself?
it seems rather rude to ask for someone else to donate their free time with no compensation.

There's already a few threads like this, so not sure there's a point to another one. Either way, there is CivX custom rom and kernel, but yes it's based on stock TW. Emwno is working on a cm10.1 port too, and beanstown was supposed to develop a custom rom but that has now been delayed. Hopefully he will do it though at some point in the future. Aside from that not many devs seem to have the device which is a shame because the Note 8 rocks.
nothing more annoying on XDA then someone complaining about the lack of free software...quick whining, and learn how to do it yourself, so you can spend endless hours of YOUR personal life creating something that people can post complaints about, request things that you dont put in the rom, and just generally expect you to spend all of your free time upgrading, and improving for them every time they want something..
I agree with you it does rock. Just xame from a Lenovo A2109 where there was a LARGE dev community but no support for Mac users. Thought for sure there would be a crap load of devs here given the Samsung brand and its answer to the iPad mini. Personally, I think its much getter then the mini even though I'm a Mac girl... note: not an Apple fangirl... just a best in class user.
Anyway, thanks for telling me what to look for and which developers to keep and eye out for. Its painful to read post after post and subsequently page after page trying to find answers to my questions. I do appreciate it.

First and foremost, this post wasn't about *****ing... it was asking a question and expressing puzzlement. Second of all, I asked no one to DO anything or develop anything for "my device". You added nothing useful or enlightening so who's the one *****ing now? Hint: it's not me!

For every ROM that has worked for me, I have donated monetarily. For one device, I actually BOUGHT a unit for development. I've been on this board for several years and have never asked for anything except answers to my questions.
Second of all, I'm a web designer/developer who donates LOTS of time to those who don't know or ask for help. I don't ask for compensation; I ask for them to carry the info forward. It seems rather rude for you to assume and judge rather then ask.

"puzzlement"? what are you puzzled about?
You've been a member here for SIX years; you know where the dev section is in this thread; the roms that are there are what we have at this point..
dont try to "veil" your complaint about so "little development" by saying you weren't complaining, just "asking a question"
We lose enough fantastic developers here when people start threads like this, so please don't encourage the few folks that are dev'ing for this device to leave as well..
end of discussion
Gentlemen please stop making personal attacks.
I am sure she knows where is the place to find a custom rom although she doesn't mean this.
So if there is nothing constructive to add in this thread then just don't post.
Thank you.

maybe I just misread your enthusiasm for the new tablet as cracking the whip on those hard working guys who do what thwy do and ask for norhing back. so If I mistook you excitement as a demand then I apologize.
the gnote 10.1 took a good while to get some dev work on it. for a good while all we had was root, which really wasn't bad at all. It's still not as active as say the s4 or gn2 development, but it still looks like qualiry work. I'd suppose it wouldn't be too hard to port a rom over, but then again what do I know, I ain't no dev.

I was under the impression you have to keep a lot of the Touch Wiz to keep the pen enabled. Otherwise it's just a generic 8" android tablet.
Thank you... I appreciate that; very much.

I was very pleased that rooting was so easy. I had to unlock the bootloader in the HTC was a flippin' pain in the arse so I was THRILLED to learn we didn't have to do that on the Samsung. So, clearly I'm very glad to have root... and have deleted a lot of the Samsung crapware as I'm sure most of us have as well. Though I do have to ask... what is a "gnote"? I had a GTab once which was actually the Viewsonic GTablet. However, I've never heard of the GNote...
I'm not a software/hardware dev either... just web... and so wish I had time to learn. I'd be all over it like a gnat on poop!

Isn't the Touch Wiz on regular non-Note Samsung devices? For example the Galaxy II & III phones? Though I am just guessing as this is my first Samsung Android device.
*smile* Thank you. However, I am a she.

yep, pretty much all samsung devices, except for the nexuses and the s4 developer ed have touch wiz. the big downside of using cm or aokp is that you'll lose pressure sensitivity with your pen (or at least that's how it was a few months ago and i haven't really check up on it).
I think its fine the way it is....

Forgive me if this has been asked a before, but I just pulled the trigger on the Virgin Mobile version of the Galaxy S3. I had been reading about the wonderful CyanogenMods that are avail, but now I think they were talking about the internation version of the phone?
I need an upgrade from my old LG Optimus V, and will be VERY disappointed if I can't CM it! WIll I be able to mod this new phone with a nifty CM after it arrives? Maybe with a Sprint CM...??

Head over to Android Forums, there is a forum specifically for rooted VM users that will give you a lot more answers. We use the Sprint ROM's, but you have to know what you are doing. CM11 runs perfectly for me, it is one of my favorite ROM's, along with CyanFox, but again, you have to know how to modify a couple of things (it's easy, don't worry) in order to flash the Sprint ROM's properly. Once you know how, the XDA forums for Sprint SGS3 are a great resource for finding other ROM's to flash.

Whew! Okay, sounds like I'm going to be fine... (I've been flashing CM ROMs on the Optimus V for, like, 3 years...so I would assume I wouldn't be too baffled by what's required to get the S3 CM'd... If there are clear instructions, I should be smilin' by next week! :fingers-crossed:
