Could some kind person possibly back up and upload their stock rooted Rogers ROM and the CIQ-free rogers kernel in a CWM flashable format? I'm having some issues with a custom ROM, and I don't actually own a Windows PC to use ODIN to flash back to the the rooted rogers rom in the 'How to root your captivate glide' thread, so I'd really like to be able to use CWM to get back to stock to see if the issue is my phone, my kernel, or the rom.
Edit: I tried Heimdall, but it just constantly 'Fails to initialise protocol!' on me, so that's a no go.

Hi,
I usually can find an answer going through the forums but now I'm in doubt so I'll just ask the question.
I'm on Rogers network. I rooted my phone using mskip amazing toolkit from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746665. Everything has been going well but now I noticed that I'm not able to get LTE. I thought the problem was on Rogers side so I called the them but after 45 minutes on the phone with the tech I realized that my flashed ROM is probably the problem. (I still wonder why the tech didnt asked me if I had rooted the phone since everything he was asking me to do on the phone wasn't working....). I checked my APN and it's fine. I also used the app phone info and tried to force LTE without any luck. I read that if we flash an ATT rom that LTE might not work. Based on the menu options in mobile network (and my conversation with Rogers tech), I think I need to flash a rooted Rogers ROM. So I want to flash the Rogers stock root rom from mrRobinson (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426) using CWM but I'm not sure if the file is made to be used with CMW but instead only ODIN. And I think I will loose CWM if I flash the file through ODIN since it contains a recovery file.
So,
1- Can I flash the Rogers stock root file from mrRobinson using CWM?
2- If I flash the Rogers stock root from mrRobinson through ODIN will it change my CWM recovery to stock recovery?
Thank you!
Yes, those images must be flashed through ODIN. TAR files need ODIN, ZIP files can use CWM.

I believe so, but just follow his steps to reinstall CWM recovery, it does take very long.
Hi,
I recently bought the Samsung Galaxy S3 on T-Mobile, to replace my Motorola Droid X on Verizon. Love the new phone, but miss my root capabilities - aka there's a bunch of bloat. There's an OTA not being forced for 4.1.1, but when I tried to root that, I soft bricked and got stuck in a boot loop at the pulsing Samsung. I grabbed ODIN and was able to push the stock 4.0.4 back into it and get it working again, baseband T999UVLH2, Kernel 3.0.8-925100, build IMM76D.T999UVALH2. Is there a way to root this phone, or a stock rooted ROM I could push up with ODIN?
I'm not looking to load custom ROM's, just have some of the abilities I had on my DX when it was rooted and get rid of some of the stock crap that I don't need.
I originally tried to do this with Samsung Galaxy S3 Toolkit v6.0, and soft bricked the phone. I followed the directions online, and did it as instructed, but yeah. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
All you need to root is the touch 6.0 clockwork mod recovery tar file which is available on xda as zip file and the odin version 3+ and follow instructions thats all thats needed to root, make sure you also put the superuser app inside the root of your sd card meaning connect your galaxy s3 to computer then open the root sd card and put it inside there, i believe there is a clockwordmod touch that already comes with superuser so you may not have to worry about putting superuser in root. here i'll grab links for you now. u dont checkmark anything on odin except select pda and browse for the tar file. Here is guide for your device with download links.
The clockworkmod touch recovery version is by far best and always works well with almost all roms.
I would also recomend you use liquidsmooth rom or if you want to test out the new android 4.2 cm but camera doesn't work on 4.2 cm10.1 now however it's a very nice custom rom
Btw, make sure you flash the superuser.zip file that you placed in your sd card while you are in clockwork mod recovery otherwise you wont comlete the root. to get into cwm you gotta hold volume up home button and power button at same time.

Or even easier you can go here:

Just flash the root66 udljva file and it is just pure stock prerooted. Just follow the doc's instructions and all will be good.

Thanks to both of you, I'm rooted, exactly the way I wanted to be. I couldn't get CWM to flash in stock recovery, nor could I get Root66 to flash in recovery, so I just pushed it with Odin. All I need to do now is get CWM Touch on it, and I'll be set. I'm reinstalling my root apps as we speak.
Thanks again!
Odin cf auto root is the quickest and simplest.

Flash cwm via Odin uncheck auto reboot. Then go straight to recovery then reboot. I'd wipe cache and dalvik while in there though.

[RECOVERY]TWRP 2.3.1.0 touch recovery [2012-10-15]
hey guys. lurker turned new poster here at XDA. a friend of mine turned me on to this a while back when he introduced me to the world of rooting. I've recently bought a Galaxy S III (SGH-i747), and I've been trying to root it using mskip's unified toolkit (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1979290). I got it rooted once, but eventually bricked it when trying to get 4.4 on it, and had to reinstall the stock 4.1.1 rom on it and lost the root in the process.
I'm completely new to all this, and I'm still trying to figure it out. I've been searching as much as I can and reading a lot, but I'm not sure if there's something I'm missing here. when I try to root it lately using the toolkit, it gets stuck in the process after I exit Odin, and will never progress.
before when the root was actually in place, I tried to install a custom OS after doing a full wipe of the system, and it never would install. I tried it with TWRP and CWM, and there was no success with either of them. the one peculiar thing, however, is that I could never get it to install with the "ALLINONE" option. when I got it to work that once, I had to install it each individually.
is there some sort of guide out there that would make this easier for me to get 4.4 on the phone? or will someone be able to help me through the process?
thank you for your time!
I just rebooted my comp, reinstalled the drivers for the phone through the toolkit, and gave it one more shot at rooting it (option 1 in the program), and this is what the process looked like.
*see attached image*
I *always* get stuck at the "pushing superuser.apk and su binary.." part.
any thoughts?

My Bell s3 was on 4.1.2. I rooted by installing a rooted rom from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
Do not flash a 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 rom if you have a bootloader from 4.3.
when I got the phone, it had 4.1.2 on it. when I bricked it, I flashed a stock 4.1.1 ROM on it, and that's what I've been using as my base ROM.
Boomer1605: I'll try that when I get home.
anyone else know what is up with the place I get stuck at during the toolkit way?
My Bell s3 was on 4.1.2 when I got it. SInce I needed to unlock it and didn't want to pay, I installed the stock Bell 4.1.1 firmware from here: http://www.sammobile.com/.
After using the menu option to unlock the phone and confirm that it was unlocked, I flashed the pre-rooted Bell s3 4.1.2 rom.
Everything worked perfectly, no errors or issues at all.
Cool! Can I find a pre-rooted 4.1.1 AT&T rom on that site? I can't really look at that link cause I'm currently at work.
Pre-rooted roms are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
I was able to install Root Explorer on my pre-rooted ROM and delete a tonne of Samsung apps.
I was able to install a pre-rooted version of 4.1.1, and I did a system/data/cache/dalvik wipe from the TWRP screen, but when I tried to install both Liquid Smooth and Omni Rom, it failed. I even restarted and didn't wipe, and it still failed. not sure where to go from here... :/
tativle coast
totally got it to work! I skipped using the toolkit to install TWRP, and used GooManager to use the latest TWRP. worked like a charm! currently running on Liquid Smooth 4.4.2!
thanks for the rooted copy of 4.1.1!

Hello, I am currently rooted and have CWM 6.0.4.3. installed. I'm on CM11 but want to go back to stock.. Is there an easy way to keep root and go back to stock. Want stock for a few functions that ROMS dont seem to be offering but can keep root and CWM ??
Thanks.
Which phone do you have? You could try flashing a pre-rooted stock ROM via Odin. Then use Odin to flash CWM.
Bt its better to firstly install ur stock rom and then again root it as it takes no longer than 5 mins

Ok perfect, thats what I was looking for. Phone btw is S3 - d2att - SGH i747) Sounds good to install the stock rom and re-root.. I'm sure its here but I have searched everywhere to find a tutorial on this and I cannot find a straight answer.
Would you mind giving me the steps or pointing me to a thread that explains how to and has the files in need to download ?

Do you know if there is a step by step on this somewhere ? I dont mind going back to complete stock.. I can just re-root and flash CWM after.
OR
Maybe you could just answer the bigger question : the reason I want to go back to stock is I need to use MHL/HDMI which CM11 doesnt support. I dont want to go back to stock, I would rather even go to another ROM that supports mhl/hdmi.. but if I have to go to stock, than so be it.?
Were you running the stock AT&T 4.3 ROM before you switched to CM11?

Since you installed a custom recovery, that would have tripped the Knox counter which voids the warranty. It's not a problem if the phone is working properly.
Did you update to 4.3 or did it come with 4.3?
You may be better off installing a pre-rooted ROM.

It was quite some time ago but I believe I was on ICS 4.0.. and switch to CM from there. Im not worried about the counter for warranty, that's expired on my unit anyways. I just want to be able to use MHL/HDMI function.. so if fine with flashing pre-rooted.. or stock.. or a different ROM that support MHL/HDMI. Can you recommend the easiest route ?

I asked about 4.3 because the 4.3 bootloader cannot be downloaded. Flashing via mobile Odin will not touch the bootloader or modem.
You could try a pre-rooted rom and then flash a custom recovery via Odin.
I use Philz Touch from here: http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/d2att

Ok thanks, I will do that. 1 thing I'm not quite sure of is the bootloader situation ? In the first tutorial there is a note : Flashing a prior bootloader can hard/soft brick your device. How do I know ?
I see the steps as:
Extract tar file you downloaded.
Use Odin, put phone into download mode [with phone off, hold vol. down + home + power ], connect to computer and open Odin.
once in odin click the PDA field and select the tar file
Leave Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time checked.
click start and when done let phone reboot.
If you just want a stock, rooted phone with no custom recovery, no plans to flash custom roms, etc. then you can stop HERE.
For my situation, is it just that easy ?
Before flashing, verify the version of your bootloader.

You mentioned your have the i747 and Rogers. Do you have the AT&T s3 (i747) or Rogers/Bell/Telus s3 (i747m)?
What is the most recent stock ROM you had on your phone?
Hey. I got the i747m. As for what was the last stock ROM I had, can't say. I know when I bought the phone it was ICS and I had received and update to jellybean.. But them went to cm10. The tutorial I followed told me had me back everything up, which I did. Have it in a file somewhere on my comp, would that tell me ?

If you are flasjing back to stock you should flash back to the same baseband/bootloader that came stock on your phone.
I'm looking for a stock rooted zip for the sasktel i747m (MF1) that i can flash in CWM....I need to go back to stock to fix a data issue that ive encountered through flashing these new d2lte builds...
Does anyone know if a cwm flashable stock rooted rom exists for Sasktel's i747m with baseband MF1 ???I already have the Odin flashable stock rooted zip but don't have a laptop handy until tuesday....And im pretty sure i cant flash that zip in cwm recovery....

I have not seen a stock mf1 ROM that can be flashed in CWM. You could use mobile Odin to flash back to stock and then flash Philz Touch via desktop Odin later.

If you are sure you have the Rogers i747m and you have never loaded a stock Rogers 4.3 ROM onto your phone, you could use desktop Odin to flash a pre-rooted 4.1.2 ROM from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426.
Flashing the pre-rooted 4.1.2 ROM will return the phone to completely stock, wipe out all installed apps and data, and you will have root. I do not recommend flashing the Rogers 4.3 pre-rooted ROM from the link.
Once you are able to boot into the phone and set things up, you can flash Philz Touch from Odin which will give you a custom recovery on a rooted stock 4.1.2 ROM.
