Has anyone else experienced this? I can't quite pinpoint when it happens, sometimes it's when the flash comes on, other times it just happens randomly. Opening images/videos sometimes does it too.
It comes from around the back but I can't tell if it's the light making the noise or if it's coming from the speaker. Very strange. On the odd occasion it will restart the phone immediately after the noise.
+1 i also get this sometims after exiting a games, switching apps and phone either freezes or restarts any idea what this might be ?

yes thats the thing that hapens to me and its been hapening since i bough the device from day 1 i though it was normal .. :/
Well at least I'm not the only one then! I've googled it before hoping someone might know what causes it (even if it happens on other devices) but I couldn't find anything.
I have this issue too on stock GB.
To start solving it, could anyone confirm if it appeares only on GB or on JB too?

Did you possibly flash new firmware and that happened? You need to give us some more details.

I don't got problems with listening to music, maybe some app is messing your phone. if you can't find the problem do a "Factory data reset", if this doesn't help you can bring the phone back and get a new one. It can always be a faulty phone.
My Arc sometimes reboots on me too but not randomly. It's always when it's doing something that maxes the CPU and I switch between apps simultaneously. It's quite annoying, no doubt. My old Desire never did this.
Hoping for a future fw update!

It's being reported in the SE forum as well. You don't notice the reboot unless u put your phone within your view the whole day. Thats when you will notice the random reboots.

I'm pretty confident its caused by buggy software and not broken hardware.
Looking forward to flashing some custom roms and kernels to get around this and up the perfomance
15 times
my arc have randomly rebooted at least 15 times in the past 3 days. it's so annoying. what's that thing with stuffing tissue paper on the back does it work?
i've reflashed mines twice now, and done reset to factory default on top of that after the second flash for good measure, and it's still rebooting when it feels like it. i uninstalled a weather widget, and i got almost 5 hours of constant uptime. i'm about to reflash it again and not install anything, maybe just battery monitor so i can tell how many hours/minutes i can get before it reboots again.
i read about the battery fit, and i have tried various things to try and see if that was the issue, but nothing physical seems to make it reboot, and like some others, i have seen it reboot when the lcd is off and the phone isn't doing anything.
i'd really like to be able to use this arc!
mine just had the first random reboot...first I thought that the battery was all drained out but then realised after switching it back on that it was at 20%...
the phone was on idle, locked...weird!!!
Just had my first random reboot after a months use, was using google nav while charging from the cigarette lighter. Quite annoying as i was trying to find my way somewhere and suddenly realised i hadnt had any instructions for a while. The phone had gotten quite hot - i think google nav must work it pretty hard.

If you use the home button to switch between recent apps a lot (i do) then it's pretty obvious if your phone's been rebooted as the recently used apps list is empty, so i'm fairly sure this is the first time my phone's rebooted on its own.
Random reboot here, too. ^^
I was typing an email with Google Mail app (with wifi and mobile data connection turned off, actually), when the screen became all coarse and broken (does anyone remember old DOS games crashes? ^^) and then it rebootet. Everything fine afterwards except for my email, which was gone.

Happened to me once... exactly as you described except I was retrieving email at that time, not typing or touching the screen at all.
I updated my GN to 4.04 a few days ago(stock rom), but after the update I frequently experience lag when I swipe to unlock the phone. This issue does not happen every time, but definitely happen very often to me. Kind of annoying.
I tried to reset the phone, change the wallpaper from Live to static, also reflash it as well. But the issue exists anyway.
Is this a typical problem?
It happens to me also on stock 4.04.
I notice a little lag when using the pin lock screen as well, but not all the time.

Me too, I find that if i turn off 3g, the lag would be less. But I am not sure.
Try disabling auto brightness?
I notice it too. I think it has something to do with the screen gradually working it way up to full brightness now instead of just coming on at full brightness like it used to in 4.0.2.
I have the lag as well. I tried wiping everything but it's still there. Very annoying.
Lag for me too using the pattern unlock. I can finish drawing my pattern before the green lines even start connecting the dots. It still unlocks, but it's not smooth like it used to be.
No lag with normal unlock. With pattern I noticed a small lag (not picking up the first "circle" I hit) but it wasn't always there.

I find that this issue happens if I change the light circumstance from dark to light, but if I am in the room and the light circumstance is constant, this issue will not happen.

I also have experienced the lag. As some of you say it looks like it happens when the auto brightness kicks in during the unlock gesture.
I've opened an issue on the android forum if you want to star it and give it more evidence.

I have left my message there, this issue really bothers me.
No lag here. Not on 4.0.4, not on any version before. But then again, I don't use auto brightness since it's just too dark for my liking. Also the screen doesn't 'dim' when switching on when you set the brightness manually.
It's a bug for shure just saying if you want a workaround...
Lag
Experiencing allot of lag at unlock screen.

Lag is due to auto brightness. Turn that off and lag should be gone.
For those of us having issues with lockscreen lag:
From what I can tell, it has to do with "smart flex" that is in the newer kernals. Between that and the custom governors included in most roms, it is causing 4.0.4 to lag until the processor ramps up.
I was seeing lag in stock cyanogen kernel, franco's latest nightly, and the latest nightly lean kernel
The fix:
I disabled smarflex all together, and I have seen zero stutter since. (I am currently using franco, and his app allows you to do this pretty easily from one of the options)
Its too early to tell because it has only been a few hours, but I haven't noticed a hit on the battery.
Hope this helps...
Cheers
I have the same problem as well. How does one disable the smartflex?
When I plug in the audio jack to an external speaker system my phone is totally unresponsive and often can't unlock or change anything in Pandora. It's really frustrating. Anyone had similar issues?
Mark
Sorry haven't experience this. What rom+kernel are you currently on. If anything, see try a different rom out and see if the problem is still there.

Does this problem persist even with other apps such as stock music?

Stock ROM and I'll have to double check about other players. Really, the problem lies in that whenever I use the phone to connect to my garage system it becomes unresponsive. I have no idea why/how it does that.

This is not a ROM-specific issue - it has been an irritating thing for me over the past year. It has happened on CM7/9/10, MIUI, any custom rom actually. Rather irritating when you wanna switch from gaming to texting etc (which is what I often do).
Just wondering if anyone found a fix. Thanks!

I have this issue as well. Whenever I open or close my play, it reboots. If I apply pressure as I slide out the gamepad, it works normally. Most likely a loose hinge or something.

Its not a software issue its a hardware issue for sure because my xperia play reboots when I close the slide on any rom. I'm not very tech savvy nor am I afraid of opening my xperia play I just don't know how the slide on the xperia play ticks. It can be number of things it can be slide, flex, the screen I have no clue. If someoone has a hardware fix on this please share.
Had this problem on stock rom but after flashing cola it's yet to happen.
Maybe I got lucky, IDK, it might be worth a try if it's bothering you too much.
There is a contact problem with your battery and the phone

This is not from your Rom. It is from your battery. Remove the battery use a paper to make it more firm as you put the battery inside the phone. I had the same problem but now I can slide my xperia PLAY open as hard and fast as u want without it rebooting.
HIT THANKS IF THIS HELPED

That doesn't work for me. I had to open my xperia play and replace the flex cable and now no reboots. The flex cable on my xperia play has alot of wear and tear in it.
I gave my R800at to my brother and today it begin to reboot when sliding in or out, it was a little lose, but not much.
I opened it, the flex cable seemed to be secure so I don't know specifically what caused it to reboot. But I tried to secure all the connections and tighten all the screws in the phone and it fixed the problem. No doubt I feel the problem will reoccur again in the future. I does seem sliding out the gamepad slowly and with some pressure down help.
To open the phone you need to use a Torque screw driver with the size "T5", you can get it at Lowe or Home Depot.
Anyone else in this situation ? The lag on 4.4.4 is slowly getting worse, its at the point where I can type about 5-6 words before it will end up on screen.... Everything is slow, seems like the CPU is in a constant state of throttling... Restarting and even hard reset doesn't fix it. Upgraded through PC companion..... Has anyone had this issue, and will a clean generic flash fix it ? Or is it just an OS bug ?
There most certainly is still something wrong with 4.4.4 though it's allot better than 4.4.2 mine isn't as bad as yours and a clean generic flash should help but 4.3 is still a little bit better.
Sent from my C6506 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Agreed, 4.3 is better........... For those having my issue.... Google has released a standalone Google Messenger app.... I have been using it since yesterday and keyboard lag is little to none, massive difference than sony SMS app... Set it as your default and never look back...
It also seems the google keyboard is getting the Android L treatment and is being rolled out now.... Hopefully the update will get to the ZL... that will help for sure.... Nice to see All the android L refreshed apps are much smoother
Any one get the calender update ? Still waiting on that one, but have received the Maps and playstore Android L style....
I also have massive lag after 5 to 7 days of uptime. And I also experience audio distortion now and then, when listening to music. Doesn't matter what music app I am using... Deezer, poweramp or Player pro. It sounds like if the CPU is under massive load from time time and it's getting worse the longer my zl is running. Reboot fixes the lag, but not the audio distortion.
I am thinking about switching to my Moto E that I bought for sports tracking. Although it is cheap and has much less power it feels smoother, when it comes to daily usage... And it has no audio distortion...

It really ain't laggy. im using 4.4.4 from the day its released without any problem i always do a clean install. may be thats why its quite stable. i would suggest a PCC repair.
I did a clean install. Factory reset - update via PC - factory reset - format sd card. Clean enough I think
Switched to ExistenZ Rom now, seems better...

Try the Google SMS and Keyboard.... world of a difference.... feels like I went from an Intel i3 to an i7 lol....... I did have an issues yesterday when I was using Netflix app it suddenly shutdown and restarted...
Also update 10.5.1.A.0.292 is currently rolling out for the ZL... so this will make things better or worse lol
Quick update.... With the changes I made previously, it's still running the smoothest in the 15 months I have owned it.
