Sprint SG3, ROM is 4.1.2. - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Alright folks, bear with me here...this one is odd because I've searched and all the SG3 references for 4.1.2. are custom ROM's. I was having some wonky issues with my Stock Rooted SG3 so I rolled it all the way back using the STOCK ICS version of the SG3 ROM for LP710. After I rolled it back...I freaked out because although the phone was fine, calls could be made, texts came in and all other functionality was good, however, I was getting a "SIM CARD NOT FOUND" message on my notification pane constantly. I was worried I had taken the stock ROM for the wrong carrier.
Instead of flashing it to the newest JB version of the sprint stock ROM...I chose to let it take the updates, see what happens. All in all I believe the phone took 4-5 updates total...and when it was all said and done, about halfway through the updates the sim card issue was gone. But then after I rooted it...I was using it a few hours and I realized some things just seemed different. So i grabbed my wifes SG3...completely stock non rooted phone. I noticed FIRST off that her version of JB was 4.1.1 and MY version is 4.1.2.
Did I miss something? What is Sprints latest ROM version for our SG3's? I've tried updating HER phone and it says it's "UP TO DATE" on ver. 4.1. What gives, anyone know what's up?
***EDIT*** I DID find some mention of 4.1.2 showing up on some Sprint users in diff. locations, but if I got it, why has my wife's phone not gotten it. Anyone else seeing this in Az. or otherwise? I also loaded up Kies and it says "your devices current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies." WTH? All the updates were OTA updates...

The latest version of SG3 for Sprint is MB1 (v4.1.2). I don't really have a good answer to why your wife's phone hasn't been getting the OTA updates (there have been 2 since LJ7: MA6 and MB1). If I recall correctly, MA6 was the one that brought you up to 4.1.2.
If you want to bring your wife's phone up-to-date, you can always flash the "purely stock files" over on Freeza's thread. You'd have to flash the updates starting at her version and each subsequent one (i.e. LJ7_to_MA6 before flashing MA6_to_MB1).
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the speedy response topherk. Well, I figured it had to be legitimate and I saw updates behave this way back when I was on my EVO....but it not being supported in Kies kind of worries me.

My wifes gs3 has yet to get the update either. As far as the sim card issue i know that was a probably a while back with rooting, haven't seen much on the issue in 3-4 months.

Interesting...worth noting is that although my version is 4.1.2, I don't seem to have the reported functionality (such as multi view page buddy, etc) and a few other things. ?????

There is no multiview for the Sprint S3 in 4.1.2. You will have to waitnuntil we get 4.2.

Ahh, ok Kenny, thanks good to know... I guess I'll just hang out with this build for a while and see what gives. I noticed that when I have the keyboard up, i can tap the T/Pencil icon and I can spell like on a tablet w/stylus. I don't remember being able to do that before. (reminds me of Palm O.S. although the Palm writing style doesn't work here)

[Q] 4.1.2 JZO54K Won't OTA to 4.2 But Another GN Will?

So I have a small question...
I have a Galaxy Nexus, had it since day 30 or so. Updated OTA many times and rooted every time, using the stock ROM so everything is perhaps more simple.
The lady friend has also got a GN. Her phone downloaded the OTA update and is now bugging her to install. She purchased her phone only a couple of months ago. We're on the same build number but my GN won't see the update to 4.2.
Is there a reason for this? Did Google pull the update once they have figured out the December bug and haven't yet fixed it?
I am a little worried as I used the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit to root my 4.1.2 phone but as the toolkit wasn't updated, I used the settings for 4.1.1. I am certain I did this to my partners phone too, but that is the only thing I can think of as to why I haven't got the update.
I'm not totally desperate for it, but just wondering why.
Thanks

Nobody really knows (afaik) how Google decides which Nexus devices get OTA updates first. I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with how 'old' your device is though. And having root won't affect the OTA update, don't worry. You do need stock recovery though.
Stock recovery?
I don't have anything like CWM installed. My phone is completely stock apart from rooted
Might try re-rooting using the Toolkit as my phone version (just in case) and then just wait I guess. Just a shame it won't see the update as I would have thought once they set the server to show there is a new version, all devices would see it... just like Windows Update for instance.

[Q] Running Custom ROM rooted, just received notice for OTA update? Details follow

I'm posting a new thread because nothing I've found has come close to answering my questions, so I appreciate any of you bearing with me here.
I've been running a custom ROM originally downloaded from this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1910947 thread, using an older version than they currently show. I'd really like to post in that thread but since I just registered I cannot post in dev-forums.
I've been running a custom 4.1.1 Touchwiz ROM, rooted, modified PRL, TWRP, etc. for quite a comfy while now and everything has worked great. Stable, fast, all that good stuff. Info:
Baseband version
L710VPLF9
Build number
JRO03L.L710VPLBJ7
Kernel
LJ7 variant
Modem
LF9 (works better than anything I can find in my area, paired with custom PRL. 300MB roaming data cap for those of you interested....I racked up 16.5GB one month when I was tethering while roaming....got that letter [then got WiFi]).
So what I really want to know is why am I receiving notifications for an OTA update, and if I'm happy with how stable the build I'm working on is, should I even bother trying to "fix something that isn't broken"?
The OTA update popped up as a notification so I checked it out, and it's advertised as 157.6 MB. Has anyone in similar shoes see anything similar pop up? Is it a 4.1.2 update, and is it worth ****ing with? Or should I be happy with what I have? Is this a reflection on my marriage?
Happy to provide any other information needed...regarding the phone.

It's MB1. The newest OTA. As far as roaming, the new modem may help you. But you can also search the threads and install the modem seperatley from the ROM. If you don't want to see the notification for the update, the are a few ways to stop it. You can let it download and install, it will take you out to your custom recovery and fail. You can just reboot your system in the update notification will not come back. you can also freeze system update using Titanium Backup this should also stop the notification. and if you're looking for the latest and greatest, there are plenty of options out there for custom ROM's. There is a couple of MB1 ROM's already up and there is a bunch of MA6 ROM's up as well, which is the variation right before and MB1.
And to answer the question of why you are receiving the update, it is because the system update component of touchwiz, which is still active in your ROM. However it does use the stock recovery to install, so that is why It will fail when it boots out to your customer recovery.

Thank you for your timely reply, it was informative and appreciated. I have WiFi at work and home and almost everywhere else I go, or at least decent 3G speeds, so I'm not inclined to update the modem. I guess what I want to know is if MB1 or whatever the latest and greatest is really has any significant improvements over Jellybean builds. If you think any good custom ROMs are worth checking out, I'm happy for links and/or more input :good:

I'll chime in here.
If you want to see the effect of the updated baseband on your 3G speeds, I'd say just flash the MB1 baseband and try it out. It's in the thread you originally posted, titled "MB1 Firmware/modem/baseband update." If you find it's slower than what you currently have, just flash the old baseband. All the old baseband files are located in the same post, just under the spoiler tag "OLD VERSIONS."
As far as upgrading your ROM, I typically am a fan of the "latest and greatest" things (as are a lot of people are here on XDA). But I understand your desire for stability (I just spent an hour this morning trying to fix mms on my phone, for the fourth time in two weeks). That's the great thing about Nandroid backups. If you flash a new ROM, realize it's not what you wanted, you can, in one easy step, return to what you had before. I'd say try out the MB1 Freeza ROM (v4.1.2), and if you really don't like the update, restore your nandroid of LJ7
Hope this helps!

4.2 Officially Out For Rogers S3's
Just got a text message from my carrier (Rogers) that Jelly Bean 4.2 is offically out for my S3 and I can update OTA from them. See the attached photo for proof.
I'm currently running a custom ROM and have no intention of updating. Just wanted to spread the word that it's out at least on my carrier and likely the other Canadian 'M' variants of the i747.
Haha no freaking way man . have you checked for the actual update and read the details ? I pray its actually the 4.2 update . anyone else have any info?

An official text message from my carrier about the 4.2 update is more than promising. It's sounds pretty official to me. I don't know if it's 4.2.1 or 4.2.2 until someone actually does the update. For me to revert back to stock to get the update isn't possible right now. I just don't have the time. I will at some point in the future do the update though to take advantage of the updated bootloader and other under the hood firmware.
I'm running CM10.1 right now which requires bootloader LK4 so an update for me would break my ability to flash the latest nightlies. Until the assertion gets updated, I'm going to hold off.
I'm on Rogers in Canada
I was doing some maintenance on my SD card, backing up the contents to my local PC and then formatting it in Android, in prep to do a few other unrelated things, when I came across this thread. I saw the user's post above about Rogers texting about the 4.2.x update so I quickly ran off and tried to update via "Software Update". I received the "device is modified, FU jerkface!" prompt, so I rebooted into recovery, wiped, and planned to restore my TWRP stock/unrooted ROM. However I forgot that I had not restored the contents of my SD card back to the device before doing the factory reset in TWRP, so now I'm stuck with a GS3, no OS, no SD card and no way of fixing it until I redownload everything manually..
So, now I'm downloading the official 613MB file and have Odin ready and waiting, and the phone in download mode. I'll restore the 4.1.1, and then check software update before rooting (so it doesn't ***** about being 'modified') and confirm back here which version it is, and if it's a network wide update or something else.. stand-by!
Sorry about your SD card.. But it was for a good cause ! Haha thanks man excited to hear the results

I have a Galaxy S3 with Rogers as well but did not get a text message. I'm not rooted and on stock Android 4.1.1. which I did via the Rogers OTA update a while ago. Just tried checking for the 4.2 OTA update but got a message that says "The latest updates have already been installed".

Seems like it's being rolled out in phases.. wonder what the criterion is?

That would be great, thanks! I was about to root and install a custom rom, but if I can get 4.2 OTA then I'll just wait it out. Surprised that's it's being rolled out to S3 owners so quickly. Felt like I had to wait forever for 4.1.1.

Kies reports my phone has the latest firmware as well.. 4.1.1

Just Kill Me

Had 4.1.1 rooted with CWM. Phone downloaded a 600MB update file. Got some sort of error part way through. Flashed stock recovery back. Let phone download OTA update. Stopped half way through the flash and aborted. No error, rebooted before I could see one - just said that it was interrupted or something after rebooting. Go to check for updates and it says the phone is up to date, however about shows 4.1.1! Kernel though is showing SMP Preempt Nov 20 date so that's go to be something new.
I noticed on Kies it says 4.1.1 is the latest version! I know 4.3 had a lot of bugs initially. Is AT&T still chickening out on this for now and all the msgs I see about 4.3 OTA update are before AT&T stopped it? Or somet issue with my phone.
I'm about to just do back to CWM, move to CM11 nightly and roll the dice on having to deal with bugs and other funky stuff. But then stability is my #1 priority so maybe just stay on 4.1.1. Can't be right as I thought there was a 4.1.2 even?? (I had the update app frozen via TI so I never bothered with the OTA updates.)
*** shoots straight into your head ***
Dead, yet ?
There's a flashable zip of the official 4.3 update in the development thread. I would recommend the no knox prerooted version though because the other version is apparently "unrootable" right now.

Jazee, I read your posts on why you chose to try 4.3. I did what jukiewalsh recommends & have 4.3 as a stable DD.
This only works if your bootloader remains on 4.1.2 or less!

I took a quick look and qasn't sure what thread you are referring to?
I'm guessing this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2498233
But aside from having a pre-root pre-no knox version how does this one compare to this one?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387423
Are both of these buggy and that's why AT&T stopped pushing out the update?

I'm pretty sure that is the difference, that it's pre-rooted and insecure. As the second one's title says it's a "one way road". If you have any plans on rooting or installing a custom rom in the future I wouldn't do the second one because currently I think it's hard to root. The other one is essentially like flashing a custom rom so you can still switch between other ones or flash a kernel if you ever decide to. And I haven't tried the 4.3 TW yet so I can't attest to the bugginess

I went from 4.3 to 4.1.1 with no issues.

My note 2 has always been stable on 4.1.1 stock and I debloated it myself. So when ever an update came out rather than risking my stable phone I would just flash the new baseband from it and keep 4.1.1, until tesh stopped updating his thread. Recently my screen cracked so I used my insurance for the first time. The new phone came with 4.3 and the knox bootloader plus the CMK7 baseband. I did a cwm backup on my cracked screen phone. Used odin to flash cwm onto the new phone, which did cause knox to show I did but who really cares since the phone is so far out of warranty anyway. Then loaded my cwm backup onto the new phone. What I ended up with is my nice stable phone with everything working plus the new baseband CMK7 stayed but the bootloader is still the new knox one. Everything is working just fine, so whats the big thing with everyone saying you cant go back from 4.3? I went from 4.3 to 4.1.1 just fine via cwm.
Cool story bro

Everything is working just fine, so whats the big thing with everyone saying you cant go back from 4.3? I went from 4.3 to 4.1.1 just fine via cwm.

If you use PC Odin to go backwards there are uncomfortable results.

How many of your posts are worthless? All of them? You sir are whats wrong with xda. The fact that every one thinks you cant go backwards from 4.3 just got proven wrong as long as you do it with cwm and not odin apparently.
There are multiple threads regarding your cool story.
The issue people are having is not being able to downgrade to 4.1.x OS. Its the bootloader that people were discussing and when coming from a 4.3 bootloader is impossible to downgrade to the 4.1.x bootloader/s.
Maybe doing a search in the future will get you some answers about the whole 4.3 bootloader and downgrading that you're taking about.
Good luck to you..
Ok but like I said I have the 4.3 bootloader and a 4.1 rom with no issues using cwm. So there is no issue with having a 4.1.1 rom and the 4.3 bootloader. If you have nothing constructive to add then dont post anything.
I mostly Lurk on XDA, But you sir are a different kind of stupid.
Clearly you haven't played with 4.1 long enough to see what the issues are, Its been well known that you can return to a older rom.
but knox has issues by doing so.

Lol long enough? How about since release day when I bought it? My phone is stable as can be with no force closes completely self deblaoted, working wifi tether, bunch of xposed modules and everything is pefect. For the most part the OS that a phone releases with is typically the most stable, there are obviously exceptions but I have been doing this since the G1 days and as soon as you start getting flash happy is when you have issues. Only thing I update is the baseband/modem. Also dont name call over the Internet its childish but then again most people on here are typically teenagers. Could you elaborate on the issues knox should be causing me but isn't?
This topic has been mentioned many times, there's no room for the useless bickering going on in here.
