lte not working (NYC) - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Every two days or so I dirty install the newest nightly Cyanogenmod.
2 days ago, after installing, my phone won't connect to LTE. In fact the best I can get is Edge
I am beside myself because I didn't have a back up in place.
Last night I tried many solutions. Installing a different kernel, installing a modem, wiping the phone, the cache, fixing permissions.
All to no avail
The phone works fine except for cellular data.
I need advice/suggestion/help.
The only thing I have not done is call AT&T to find out if LTE is down. Or do have my line reprovisioned....but I doubt that will remedy the issue
Please help

Follow this thread carefully and make a backup before flashing ROM's next time

It seems difficult at first but once you do it will seem easier if it happens again. Always make a backup

I believe imei loss is random. Nothing specifically does it, it just happens after some flashes. That's why its recomended to backup your imei before you start flashing anything. It's easier to back it up than to get it back.

$50 Bounty to Help Me

I am willing to pay $50 to the person who can help me solve my problem.
I have a successfully rooted T-Mobile T989 that I have been using for 2 weeks. I decided to un-root the T989 using the procedures listed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319830
Then installed the :
SGH-T989-UnRoot_ROM_Zedomax.zip
When I rebooted my phone the ROM does not appear to take at all - instead it restores my phone to a state it was in on 10/20. The phone also keeps rebooting itself over and over.
When I install the SGH-T989-UnRoot_ROM_Zedomax.zip from recovery, it reboots 2 seconds after it says "Setting Permissions"
I have tried wiping everything, factory resetting but to no avail.
hold volumen down or up + power
go back into download mode
use odin to flash back the root
with root you can fix most of those issues
in CWR select the option to Fix Permissions
use wipe factory reset, to wipe out everything
then reboot a couple of times to make sure it's stable
once it's confirmed, then you can try to flash the un-root back into the phone
using this info http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319830
by flashing this file SGH-T989-Stock-Recovery.tar
Where are you located?
Right. Thats why I hold myself from rooting my SGSII until there is a proven tested method without surprises.
Screwing up your phone is easy but paying bounty to get it fix sounds to me like a self-torture. No, thanks.

If you read extensively and follow directions to a T there's no way possible you can brick your phone. I don't know about you guys but I read about how to root, how to unroot, etc so you save yourself from headaches. Some people probably jump into things without reading and that's where issues show up. I even watch videos to get an idea if I'm not too confident.

That's how everyone should do it. Its almost fool proof to do it that way. When I rooted my first Android phone (G1) it took me about 3 days to finally do it. I read extensively and watched videos etc till I built up some confidence and got the job done with no issues at all.

Thank you for the quick reply - unfortunately this process did not work. Although I have root access, when I delete a file through ADB and reboot the phone, the file re-appears. I tried re-flashing other ROMs but when I reboot, the phone returns to a state it was in about 1 week ago...not sure what is going on.
Saw the cautionary note about bounty's - I had the best of intentions but will refrain from offering them again.
Have you tried this method to unroot the phone - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1323878 ? It's very simple, straightforward and works.

Thank you for the reply. I did but to no avail. Nothing that I write to the phone sticks. Although I have root access and went in and deleted an .apk through ADB, successfully, when I rebooted the phone (after clearing everything under the sun) the .apk re-appeared as though it had never been deleted.

T-mobile Galaxy S3 Flashing CM9 and Trinity Kernel Can result in Lost IMEI

Here is what i did.
Latest CWM recovery v5.8.4.7
after nandroid back to CM9, i wipe cache partition & Dalvik Cache
then i flash "TGST-CM9-ICS_ALPHA19.zip" - the Trinity kernel
when my phone reboot i discover the IMEI is gone.
The phone still work, but you will get Edge speed only and your IMEI number is 0.

I been doing a alot of research and i think i found a solution to fix my imei.
haven't test it out yet but will get back to you guys asap when the product arrive. =)

You will lose access to data network. You can check your settings- about phone - status and if your imei shows all 0 then you lost it and so far now way of restoring it back other then sending your phone to Samsung under warranty.

Typically you would lose connectivity. Dial*#06# and see if you get all zeroes. All zeroes means IMEI is borked.

You wipe everything prior to flashing a new ROM, not after.
On another note, can you guys please tell me why the IMEI is lost while flashing? I would like to get this phone but I'm scared now. since Samsung phones have always been a bit dodgy IMO. Stuff like this kinda troubling to hear so I'll probably keep my S3 stock until the Devs figure out a way to save the IMEI. Also this will eventually be my 7th Android device so it's not like I'm a newb or anything(owned 2 Samsung & 4 htc devices so far).
Lost IMEI too
I had the same problem after rooting my Galaxy s3 and installing FreeGS3 rom. I lost my EMEI, and couldn't find a solution, so I exchange it for a new one. I am keeping it in stock rom for now, hoping for an early update to ics 4.1.

This just happened to me. There are ways you can back up and restore your IMEI should this happen to you, but I didn't make any backups. I did learn how to set your IMEI (don't ask, it's illegal) but that alone didn't fix this for me (apparently the backup process restores more than just the IMEI). In the end, I called up T-Mobile and said I cycled my phone power during a factory reset, and they sent me a new phone, put everything back to how it looks prior to rooting the phone, reset the counters, and all that jazz.
The only reason I don't feel bad about lying about how the IMEI got borked is because I believe it really is a glitch on Samsung's end that caused this. Even so, the second you mention custom anything they'll say it isn't covered and then you're stuck with Edge for the rest of your contract.

From what I've read as I researched this, it seems to happen arbitrarily during a flash. I highly recommend finding a guide on backing up the EFS partition prior to flashing in the future (this is where the relevant information is stored for fixing this issue)

Just an fyi - it is not illegal to set your phone to the imei that is supposed to be there.
Now spoofing or using someone else's working imei - well that's where you start crossing a line you should not be.

Stuck on edge even after injecting IMEI

I know there's been multiple threads on this topic but I can't figure out how to solve it after reading each one. Here's my story. I rooted it and then flashed CM10 via cwm recovery and everything was working fine. One day later without doing anything my 4g started slowing down and eventually I can't get anything but edge. I looked around xda and found out that i might be missing my IMEI. Sure enough my IMEI was a 0. I tried recovering to a back up but that didn't fix it so I injected it back in via Peoplearmy's method. The IMEI is now in place but I still wasn't getting anything but edge. I tried using odin to flash it back to stock which worked but I still wasn't getting anything but edge. Does anyone know what I need to do to fix this? I have contacted Peoplearmy but he hasn't replied yet and i need this fixed asap so it would be great if someone could help me out. This is the T-mobile version of the s3. If you need any more information please ask. Thanks. I would post this in another place but I don't have enough posts. Relatively new here.
Another victim... Listen man, it's hard to say how to fix this issue. Nobody really knows how people are losing their imei although I think there is a ****ty cwm recovery floating around. If you read through the imei recovery thread there is a ton of people with the same issue as you.

[Q] IMEI at zero/need some help

I'm helping to get some help from the community on this one. I've already received extensive help from a senior member on here but haven't had any luck yet. I have a T-mo SG3 currently running the fantastic Darthstalker rom. I flashed the latest modem and the next thing you know I don't seem to have a data connection (first at E then G). I tried a few things that didn't work, then I check the imei # and it's at zero. I then tried this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1852255 but when I flashed the zip file the message that came up said "efs backup starting waiting to see if unlocked" then " backup skipped not unlocked". I thought that was weird because I thought it was unlocked already or should be. Anyway I don't know if that method would have worked because I could not get past that step. I then started reading here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308546 but haven't actually tried it yet because I don't know a lot about it. Phone has been running great and still is prior to this. I did not have a backup of the efs/imei prior to this happening but when looking in root explorer there is an efs file in there, which also contains an imei file. My hope is that I am able to restore my imei number and get my data connection back. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
That Synergy zip is for Verizon phones. And it won't help you now because your IMEI is already lost.
You need make use of the IMEI restore thread. It's around these forums somewhere.

how did you make the backup of your IMEI in the beginning?
You need to use this method:

But you have to flash to the stock rom again to do it ... it won't work from CM. Search the forum for the stock rom .zip and use odin to flash it .. you should be able to get the imei injected once you're back on the stock rom.

Are you connecting to the correct APN?
I use the att APN called phone. If you search xda you'll get the settings for this APN.

I've searched but can't find it the only on I can find is "ATT Phone" rather than just phone off there is a difference. But I did notice on stock the one that worked for me was just called "phone"

should be the same. I had a similar problem to you and then I had to take my phone back for replacement after taking it back to stock and reseting the counter.
i hope you find some solution, i'm out of ideas, sorry mate.

That got it to work for a little bit, but now I'm back on the EDGE Network. I think the problem now is that the serial number displayed in settings is "00000000000" But it was there before I tried the method you mentioned.
