[Q] Nova Launcher in recently opened apps. - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Is there a way to prevent Nova Launcher from showing up in the recently open apps view? It just find it annoying when I close the apps and accidentally close Nova Launcher and it causes a redraw/restart
I'm running the 3.3.13 Linaro Aroma Rom by Apophis and using the most recent AK experimental kernel 722 or something like that.
Any help would be appreciated

App pimp my rom has lock app in memory. Try that. Not sure but in Nova settings there should be an option to lock it in memory to prevent redraws

It's not the redraws in particular. I have it already set up to be locked into memory, but it's that I'm closing the app by swiping it off the screen, so it has to reload.

Is it set as your default launcher? If so, it shouldn't do that.

Im going to guess this is your problem. Go into your nova launcher settings and scroll down. You will see "select default home". Tap it and when it asks you to select the default home, select nova and then "always"

well i have quick desk ask my default, and then, in quick desk, nova launcher as the favorite launcher; maybe that's what it is. let me try that.
edit: that worked! but i can't use quick desk anymore. i'll have to find another way to use it. thanks for the help.

[Q] App Drawer stays open

Previously i was running stock froyo rooted.
Ive flashed the stock gingerbread (odexed) from here and all went well.
ive noticed now that when i open an app from app drawer, when i click "back" to exit out of the app, the app drawer is still open. Before i flashed the stock gingerbread rom, the behavior was, click "back" to exit out of app and i would return to home screen (because app drawer was automatically closed).
Has anyone else experienced this?
If so, does anyone have a solution to go back to the previous behavior?
(note: i dont accept "hit home instead of back to exit out of app" as an acceptable solution. I also dont accept install another launcher as an acceptable solution.)
Please advise. Thank you.
in case it helps...
I have no other launch installed (no LauncherPro, and no AWD Launcher)
I still have stock sense launcher

you could try and download a gingerbread rom from MIUI.us or go to RM or something and try it.
Thanks for responding mini.
I would like to stay stock.
Anyone else notice this problem or know of a fix?
I am having that problem too and it is driving me absolutely insane. It has to do with how the Go Launcher is actually coded.
The app drawer seems to be in another activity and if you launch something from the app drawer when you exit back to the home screen you will return to the app drawer. However when you start something from the home screen you will return to the home screen when resuming. If you run out of memory while in the app and android kills the home screen then you will see different behavior and return to the home screen no matter what.
There is a really simple fix to this behavior, maybe this weekend I'll take a look at this tool and fix it then post a link for it somewhere.

If anyone can try to persuade the developers of go launcher to add a menu option for this that would be awesome.

I actually just took a peek at the site for Go Launcher and it looks like this behavior is new in version 2.61, behavior number 5:

I have sent the developer an e-mail.

Well you can't exactly come here and pick and choose which answers you want to hear. If you have a problem that you don't understand and/or don't know how to solve then you need to be open minded about the answers you're given. I'm not sure how your particular ROM is coded but that very well may have been a change implemented by whomever created the ROM. There are a number of launchers that have their assignments setup that way. There are also some that don't. If so, then you'll either have to use a different launcher, use the home button to get to the home screen, or flash a different ROM. No amount of picky mentalities on your part is going to change that. The only other thing I can suggest is to reflash the ROM, though I doubt this will yield any results, or download another odexed ROM and flash it. Either way it is definitely a software issue. Which means that the issue lies somewhere embedded in how the ROM was built.

Yeah I use Go Launcher and I have the same thing happen to me. I don't find it to be a problem at all since the apps I use 95% of the time are on my dockbar. So when I press the home button it actually does go back to my homescreen since I never open the app drawer. That's my way around it. The apps are more readily available in my dock bar anyway. So it's a win/win for me.

Can't chance launcher from TW to something else

Hi, coming from the photon and loving the SGSIIE4GT so far. However, I'm having one issue. I'm trying to change to launcher from TW to the gingerbread launcher but it always comes back to TW. I have cleared the defaults for TW, tap the home key and select the gingerbread launcher but right after that the phone says that it is preparing my settings and then go back to the TW homescreen. Tried other alternative launchers and I still have the issue. Any ideas on how to solve this?
Thanks
maybe home switcher?
https://market.android.com/details?id=ymst.android.homeswitcher&hl=en
I had this problem while trying to use Go Launcher EX. I ended up going into my settings and clearing the defaults for tw and launcher then set my new launcher as default when given the option after pressing the home button.

Touchwiz is just another Sprint ID pack listed as Samsung. So go into Sprint OD and load up the Clean id and that is as close to stock as you will get.
Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All>TwLauncher
Then simply hit "Clear defaults"
Next time you hit the home key it will give you the option of selecting the one you want to use and making it the default if you so choose.

You mean Sprint ID might actually be good for something?
I am having kind of the same problem. Most of the time when I press the home button, I get prompted to select which launcher to use (Launcher or TwLauncher). The problem is when I set TwLauncher as the default, it doesn't stick. Its becoming very annoying. Anyone know how to fix this?

Also, I have tried clearing defaults for both launchers and even clearing data, but it doesn't help. Also tried clearing data for Sprint ID. No luck.

[Q] Can't get 5 Columns on homescreens

I've searched all over and can't find info on this...
I'm new to this, but was able to successfully get Codename Android running on my phone without a problem (started with 1.2, then 1.3.2, and now 1.3.3). I did all the wipes and factory resets prior to upgrading each time but I've never been able to get 5 columns to appear on my homescreens despite selecting it in the options. Is anyone else having this problem?
BTW, this is the first ROM I tried and love it. If I can get this column thing squared away, it would be even better.

Whoops! my bad thats rows....Do you have nova launcher installed? you prolly do as i think most of the custom roms come with it....Look for a app called (nova settings) if you cant find it hold down on your homescreen till you see a popup and select (nova actions) then select (nova settings) it will now be on your desktop so select it and go under (homescreen) then (desktop grid) change columns to 5 and you should be good to go...i just did it and it worked perfectly
Thanks for reply. I've heard of nova but was hoping i could make CNA do it since it is advertised as a feature. I will try nova
Edit: tried nova but prefer CNA launcher. So, if anyone can help get 5 columns?
I have a 5 row 5 column layout and I'm using ADWLauncher EX.

Use nova. They are all based off the stock launcher anyways in terms of looks and functionality. Any difference you see is due to options you have set. The fact is nova is the most versatile.

PSA: Do *NOT* Upgrade Apex Launcher! [FIXED]

Note: It would appear 1.3.1 fixes this. I'll leave this thread to age normally in case we need it again in the future (doubtful).
Beware! Apex Launcher is completely broken in the September 24th update. Upgrading will lead directly to infinite FCs from the launcher. This can not be fixed by clearing Dalvik cache, reinstalling the app, or a wipe/reinstall. The Launcher app itself is bad. Ways to fix:
Clear Defaults
This should work on most ROMs.
* Lock phone. This may require a reboot.
* Pull down the toolbar.
* Click the settings icon (if you have ICS) and pick Applications.
* Pick Apex Launcher
* Pick Clear Defaults
* Hit Home button
* Pick the default launcher.
Remove / Downgrade
Do this if you have a ROM that uses APEX and removes the stock launcher.
* Lock phone. This may require a reboot.
* Pull down the toolbar.
* Click the settings icon (if you have ICS) and pick Applications.
* Pick Apex Launcher
* Pick Uninstall Updates
If you use the second option, you may lose your home screen customizations. At least, it hosed mine.
Edit: I've been modifying this as people give more info. Keep it coming!
Edit 2: Looks like it's been fixed. Thanks, folks!

"Fixed."
No matter what you do, the upgrade will destroy your home screen customizations. At least, it hosed mine. Hopefully someone has a better solution than downgrading or removing Apex.

Don't uninstall updates unless you have no other launcher on your phone... Just hit clear defaults and hit home to choose a different launcher. Then if an update comes to fix it you can install it without losing anything.

Did not lose settings
I uninstalled the launcher completely and did not lose anything.
Updated to the www.apexlauncher.com APK (v1.2.5) and everything is as it should.
I came directly here after my phone keep crashing with apex. I don't have any other launcher! Ugh. I'll try the other option.

Try this, assuming you are on a stock based TW ROM it will install the stock TW launcher. You can copy it to SD through recovery if necessary.
With usb cable unplugged, mounts and storage, mount USB storage, plug usb cable in. Copy file over, select 'Go Back' to exit storage menu and install this flashable like you normally would, then clear cache and reboot.
If you can get to the Play Store d/l and install the Home Switcher (froyo). It will allow you clear the default launcher and change it to something else if necessary.
If that doesn't work, let me know and we can try something different.
this was a horrible surprise this morning. i had to revert to an old nandroid, then turned off auto update for apex.
I'm actually on 1.3 and I'm loving the new UI tablet on the new version

Unable to use add shortcut to homescreen function from apps...

Here is an odd one, none of the apps that have a 'add to home screen' function are working in terms of adding the shortcut. So if I open OneNote, for example, and choose the 'add to home' on a section it doesn't make the shortcut on the home screen. It does this, or doesn't do it, in both my custom launcher and the pixel launcher. I even tried removing customizations like Tiles app and Button Mapper app and no change.
Any ideas on what might be the issue?
For me it does not work for firefox but works for chrome. Oreo 8.0.
Let me try in Chrome, so far that I know OneNote and Glympse don't work. NOV Oreo 8.0.
*EDIT* No go for Chrome in either launcher, though it did put up the onscreen message that it was added.
I can get the add shortcut feature to work with chrome but not other apps.
I'm seeing the same thing with two different Nexus 5X phones.
I am having the same issue with hangouts not adding to the homescreen!

Install "QuickShortcutMaker" from PlayStore
This would do the trick for most cases.
