This was a wasted and unnecessary thread, as well as naive and immature.
As far as we know, you did something incorrectly in your endeavor to transition from stock to aosp. Do not blame your mistake, a system error, bad download, etc on an aosp operating system that millions of phones have been flashed to and are running fine on.
My wife updated her stock S3 from ICS to jelly bean and had GPS issues for weeks. I had to wipe the whole phone and start over for her.
I would feel stupid if I was you.

It is a thread for newbies that they don't know the problems that an AOSP rom brings! I don't blame anyone dude i just want to warn people if you feel stupid for this so me too. And if you seek you will see many more people have problems from aosp roms so immature is your post ok?

I've been using AOSP based ROMs since October and not once have I had a single GPS issue. Sounds like there was definitely a user error. I don't think developers would release a ROM that knowingly disabled your GPS capabilities

I have been using Vanilla RootBox for months now with no issues whatsoever on my Galaxy 4g Touch. I don't understand why you say they ruin your GPS?

As i said before just look and seek about GPS problems there is a whole big thread about it....So and because every phone behaves different from others it's not bad for the users to know it.... I haven't a problem with Aosp Roms or developers i think they make great work. I just say my personal bad experience that is sure became from an aosp rom. Many people have the same problem. I think the forum is for saying the problems and to provide help for our problems....So why i am taking attack? Did i anything bad?

You feel attacked because no one understands your ignorance.
You you had a "personal bad experience" but tell everyone on xda, via this thread, that AOSP is broken and touchwiz is the only way to go. You obviously are overlooking all the posts concerning stock firmware issues. I'm assuming you're also judging an operating system (4.2) that's still in it's beta (nightly) stages. Grab a stable release, follow the directions correctly and be amazed...

The post is for users like me that want it to try TouchWiz ROM but i didn't know that it will ruin my GPS and the only way to fix it again is to go flash another ROM! So please if you don't want to lose your GPS don't flash TouchWiz ROMG!!!
sorry, had to vent opposite. i've had GPS issues with every kind of ROM (TouchWiz and AOSP). just be patient. re-flash the ROM, talk to the dev, or wait for a new version of the same ROM.

Aosp roms do not break gps.
Get your facts straight before posting this garbage, there is nothing true about your statement.

[Q] ics custom rom & camera what exactly is the problem?

In most of the custom rom threads, dev's do not like being asked about why the camera doesn't work. But I can't seem to find the answer so i'm posting it here.
What exactly is the problem with ics and camera's? why are there so much difficulties in enabling the camera in ics?

Because ics is a new android base and they are working as hard as they can to get it working. They don't want to hear about it not only because its in the list of what doesn't work and don't want bug reports, they also have put in an incredible amount of work and so many people put pressure on them about the camera as it is. Developing roms and kernels without a working base to start with is incredibly painstaking and is not easy. It's amazing they have gotten as far as they have with it since ace devices have no official ics base to work with. Just be patient. It will all get worked out eventually.
And don't forget that camera is not the most important in a phone
So they're going step by step... this is a very good way to proceed.
Because camera is for cam whores jk

The guys at the Desire development managed to get the camera working: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1403113
It's a rough hack and not very stable yet but works!
Also, the current ICS roms are running 2.6.x kernels, I'm positive it has something to do with that. Wonder if we'll even see 3.x on the DHD! Hope so!
Don't understand me wrong. I have great appreciation for the work that dev's do. Everyday I enjoy the fruits of the custom rom that I have loaded onto my device.
It was just that the camera in ics seems to be a problem for many custom rom developers and I assumed that it was something more specific to the developements with ics.

The guy was simply asking for info. He just wanted to know if anyone has an idea why the cam is a commom obstacle for different devs.. He wasn't underestimating the developers' work(who during my 5 years with xda, has proven to be the Gods of mobile modding!)
No harm in asking, right?

The kernel has changed and that requires new libaries to allow the camera to interact with it, these are the properiatary blobs that only HTC can officialy provide, now it should be possible when one of the DHD sister phones i.e Desire Z are provided with an official build that the camera can be reverse engineered, but if not it's gonna be a matter of trial and error to get any knid of functionality.
BTW If anyone with a better than my sketchy understanding wants to butt in and correct me please feel free
BTW BTW Lordclockan has a build with partialy working camera up and running
I agree with you. All the best to the devs ! Good luck !

[Q] Best Daily Driver NON SENSE Rom

I think the title says it all....
I'm probably going to flash an ICS rom once they are out of Alpha.....
But for now.. thinking about moving over to plain jane Android... probably using ADW EX to theme it out like ICS (since ADW has the nice folder action)....
So people's opinion.. best NON SENSE Rom at the moment?
Latest Cyan? Bugless? The Kang'd one in the development thread? Another I don't know about?
Chime in... all opinions welcome (I would like to know "why" you are stating what you are though)...
p.s. no flaming others on this please It's purely opinions.. everyone is entitled...
p.s.s. any kernel advice is welcome as well
Seriously use Evervolv ICS rom preview 5. I am using it as my daily driver. I posted links to the rom, exchange.apk fix and gapps on rootzwiki. As I am not allowed to post links on xda at the moment you would have to go to rootzwiki.
What's not working on it? I take pics of my niece all the time (she's 4) so I need a working camera... don't care about video though....
Also I use this for navigation.... and part of where I drive is kinda crappy service.. so I have been using Navigon for those areas and the maps are on the SD card...
Also full bluetooth needed... as my car stereo has bluetooth and a mic behind the steering wheel....
edit: just tried.. and camera doesn't do panoramic.. only 4:3.... don't really care about video.. but want the other... so original question still exists.
Best NON SENSE Rom? Anyone?
I use Inc-Deck its a modified CM7, I think it feels a little less "fat" than cm7.
Bugless is also a stout option, either or.
Edit: To go back a ways OMGB is a solid rom, it was my daily for at least 2 months straight.
Got a link to Inc-Deck? I may be blind but I'm not seeing it in the development section... Mostly I want to get used to stock before a ICS build is ready for primetime...

It's tweaked just enough to make it feel a bit smoother than cm7 and it comes with the stock launcher. Also I'm not too sure about the bluetooth on this, I never use it but I haven't seen anyone complain about it.
Happy Flashing!
Give MIUI a try. I recently switched after using CM for about a year and am really happy with it. I think the ROM is much better than CM, although I hated the iPhone look to the ROM but I just use GO Launcher and go back to what my CM homescreens looked like. There are a few things I miss from CM, but overall really happy with MIUI
I flash a new rom about every day but cm9 has held me for a while so that would be my current daily that i would suggest to give a try to.

[Q] Working Stock ICS or Jellybean ROMs?

I have spent the last few hours searching all over, just like I do every few months, trying to find a stable ICS or Jellybean ROM with everything actually working. Finally decided to just post and ask for some help. I don't care about beats audio or any other stuff people add in, just plain stock is preferable, but I need wifi, 4g, youtube, and all the camera stuff to work. Are there any ICS or JB ROMs out there where everything works the way it should?

*sigh*
There's so much I want to say. But instead, I will say this:
This device is only officially supported through Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread). Any Android versions past that do not have official drivers, so they would have to be built from scratch, for a device that has been EOL for quite a while. Thus, your statement "where everything works the way it should" doesn't make sense, as the device doesn't officially support running ICS or JB.
That being said, all of the ICS/JB ROMs suffer at the very least the same list of things not working - FFC, 4G, HDMI out, Netflix. Videocam can also be an issue on some. So, based on your criteria, you'll be sticking to Sprint-based Gingerbread Sense ROMs .

Not sure why all the sighing and such but thanks for the info. It's hard to tell because it's not always clear what people base a ROM on and it seems like only about half the people posting ROMs list what doesn't work. I was hoping there might be a cynagenmod 9 or 10 for it at some point but it doesn't seem likely.

CM9 and CM10 both exist for the supersonic, but development has been discontinued on them. But that doesn't matter anyway; those features I already mentioned still don't work, so they're disqualified from your consideration.

To me finished means things work. I mean what makes it finished? Just that you are able to install it on the phone? If that were the case there was a finished version more than a year ago. Obviously cyanogen doesn't think it's finished either otherwise they would make it official.

That's not what makes a CM build official or not. But I'm not going to bore you with facts you can find via Google. And yes, everything that can/should work work. But there are updates to drivers that can make things work better, or tweaks here and there that can be done. Besides the fact that Google releases updates/patches that need to be included.
Since I answered your original question, I will now digress.
Lol how many times a week are people going to ask about ics and jb builds with everything working, or official HTC releases without looking for themselves first before realizing they don't and wont ever exist. Yes they are finished, they boot, make calls, get data, the only things that dont work on em are 4g and FCC. Just unroot your phone and forget about it, you aren't cut out for this business son.

You need to assess just how important some features are to you. If you only have an Evo, and somehow don't have an upgrade on your plan, then you have 2 options.
1: Keep it stock, everything works. No hassle, just poor battery life. Maybe get Superuser and remove the adware/junk if you feel like it.
2: Use a custom ROM which will not have working 4g, FFC, and other features that you won't know they don't work until you go to use them.
Weigh the pros and cons and make a choice, but everyone here so far is correct. The device is EOL and there will most likely never be a working ICS/JB build that has all features working. That would require too much work, for an EOL device.

If you must have all radios and hardware of the EVO 4G fully functional, you should stick with a gingerbread ROM v 2.3.5 or later. MikG 3.11 is a Sense based ROM that is well integrated and fully supports all EVO 4G operations. You can download MikG 3.11 at http://themikmik.com/showthread.php?10338-MikG-v3-11-3-9-2012.
As others have indicated, no ICS or Jellybean ROM supports 4G or the FFC. Sadly the necessary work for the hardware drivers is not likely to happen. If you do not require working 4G or FFC, there are a number of fully functional Android 4.0.4 (ICS) or 4.1.2 (Jellybean) ROMs available. I happen to like HALO Series II Nova http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903469&page=33 and AlienMOD Solar Flare Series V http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086163 with the caveat that I am experiencing some tint issues with camera applications in these ROMs.

[Q] Most stable rom for the S3?

Ok, after trying a bunch of the cool roms on the board, I've decided to install something and forget about it. Been looking for a nicely tweaked and trimmed down version of the stock rom but can't find anything. The problem is, all of the ones I've tried have some kind of an annoying bug or missing functionality, that ends up being more annoying than it's worth. I dislike the TW launcher, but I guess it's a good trade off for a stable working phone. If there's a themed stock rom (all of touchwiz functionality) minus the kiddie icons, please let me know. I'm using the LiquidSmooth 2.5 official now, and I love this rom, but it has a few too many bugs that are very irritating. For example, the camera is junk. Can't focus if it's life depends on it. I keep getting all kinds of artifacts on screen when unlocking the phone, MMS doesn't work half the time and so on. An ideal rom would be something that looks like LS but functions like stock TW but I guess that's impossible.
So please recommend me a stock based rom. Even if it's just stock rooted with the bloatware removed it would be fine. Thank you so much for your time.
Edit: Forgot to add, phone is US AT&T
There is no most stable rom just stick with what works best for you. Not everyone has the same experience on a rom. This thread is going to be locked.

Every ROM is going to have bugs, or things that dont work out.
thats why there is nighty releases of roms, to get most bugs worked out.
Theyre never going to be bug free because of the constant updates and features being added.
only true bug free is Touchwiz.
like the user above you said, you need too look for something that is stable for YOU.
a search would of let you figure this out, a search would of also pointed in the right direction on where to post questions.
this thread needs to be closed.
XDA is a site for development and what is best (stable) for one is not necessarily best for another, users need to test and read and learn on their own.

[Q] Which Rom should I select?

Im only partially familiar with roms and flashing(used to flash optimus V until I upgraded to a phone with no devs working on it XD ), I was fairly familiar with a cyanogenmod port for my op-V and liked that.
Anyways more specifically im not familiar with any of the devs or their products and was wondering which rom will give me the most preformace and lowest battery drain?
or is it too soon in the nexus 7's life to determine this kinda thing?
should I just stick with stock for now?
also if you have any words of advice or such so a new nexus 7, I'd love to here em.
just flash every rom out there and decide which ever is the "best" for you then stay with it .
What exactly do you find wrong with the stock rom? My thoughts on custom roms have always been if it isn't broke don't fix it.

Options and features.... for example Cyanogenmod has a ton of features that the original ROM doesn't have. Also speed sometimes dictates switching roms. Alot of custom roms are striped down and are faster also.

Paranoid Android is fast becoming a personal favorite. Tablet UI is how things ought to be. It's very easy to make a backup image, backup apps, and just start flashing. Now's a good time to start, too, as it's early and the selection is fairly limited. It will only grow from here..

I flashed every ROM that was available, that after I backed-up my original stock ROM. It's the only way you'll find which one you like the most. My 2 best options are ParanoidAndroid 3 and CyanogenMod Kangs, but I love the stability and speed of latter. It's all about preferences, just read a lot of comments of what users say and that also can help you.
Update: I love too much the custom ROMS, the customizing and the utilities they add are just fantastic. That's why I never stay with a stock ROM.
CleanROM if you just want a basic ROM like stock without all the bloatware.
ParanoidAndroid if you want a ton of features to play around with. Some are buggy at the moment and performance won't be as good as it would be with CleanROM but I think it's worth it for the features.
