hi there i have galaxy nexus having xylon rom 4.2.2. battery life is so bad. all the battery drains within 8-9 hours with average usage..need help..
How long are you expecting to get out a modern smartphone's battery?
when i had revolution hd 4.1.2 . tht gave me battery life of a day and half .......
You could try other roms/kernels/governors.
What works for some might not work others.

You could also check if you have any apps that keeps the phone awake.
Sent from my TF300T using Tapatalk HD
tell me the best 4.2.2 battery saving rom...??
My observations are 4.2.2 decreases my screen on time by 1 hour, but that may just be my ebay battery degrading, my observations are nothing scientific, so take it with a grain of salt.
And as always, YMMV.
A degrading battery could decrease your phones battery life, but I guess that it would be a longer process and not appear right after flashing a new rom.
You could install something like BetterBatteryStats and have a look at the (kernel/)partial wakelooks if some app is keeping your phone awake.
CPU Spy can also show you how long your phone spends on certain CPU frequencies. This could also give you a quick info if your phone can get enough sleep. (you should give the app enough time to collect data)
Perhaps there is also a bug in the rom?
And smartphones don't last very long with screen on, so depending on what you do during your 'average use' and if your smartphone usage changed since your last rom that might just be what you can get.
Reply
Yes, i also have the galaxy nexus, and the battery life is poop.
To many variables come in to play..such as low signal strength being the number one battery killer. Test on a stock ROM and kernel first. Cm.10.1 nightlies are doing me pretty good averaging 15 hours / and almost 3 hours screen time. Running Franco kernel r366 undervolted -75 offset.

Install BetterBatteryStats, check wakelock issues, common issue is caused by "android os" keeping the phone awake all the time and I bet that's what eating your battery. usually gps_lock or another process requesting the OS to stay awake.

I'hv flashed cm7 last week. The problem is that my defy battery drains too fast as compared to stock Froyo. I have calibrated its battery correctly. Also phone always remains hot. I am looking for solution but didn't get proper solution. Plz help..
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
I've noticed the same, since flashing CM 7.1 my battery will barely last the day, I don't think it's going into deep sleep.
I'm having the same problem
When I flashed CM7 the second time recalibrated and deleted battery stat battery life improved...now i get about 35-40 hrs on one charge.
But of course there are many factors that contribute to battery life and our devices won't be the same.
Not proper solution yet..

I had problems too but after the Calibration the battery works just fine.. try Calibration again
Thanks to all..will post after getting my problem solved.trying cm7 stable..

can you give us some numbers and specifics about your usage ? its not possible to give any view point or explanation till we know whether you are running on 2g or 3g wifi on/off etc etc .
that your phone remains hot can be caused by two things (in my experience): your cpu is always on 100%, or your gps is on. First of all, try wiping battery stats from recovery when fully charged, than let it discharge. secondly, try using setvsel to control the frequencies. if your battery still drains fast, check whether its water damage indicator is red (the - originally - white sticker near the battery pins), cuz mine is red, which means it was contacted by water, which couldve caused a short, and till then my battery drains much faster.
You can use cpu spy from market to see what is your cpu doing and the times for each state. Check if it's going to deep sleep.
I always keep my GPS, wifi off.
CPU is undervolted at minimum values as 300-16,600-26,1000-46.
I've already calibrated battery.
My battery statistics are: (approx.)
Display- 40%
Android system- 10%
Phone idle -15%
Cell standby- 10%
Android OS -5%
Remaining- other apps
Display is taking 40% while I always keep it at minimum brightness.

I finally got solution.. My defy's battery performance improved a lot. I have installed wakjiui ROM and calibrated the battery and it was unbelievable. Using it since last week. Almost doubled battery performance. At night it drains by only 2%. And one more thing about wakj ROM is it is perfect combination of miui and some apps from cm7. .

i got 48 hours.. sometimes more using MIUI .. highly recommend you to use it!
It is based on miui.

Hi,
I have a GN extended battery, and I've noticed it's been draining much faster as of late. I used to get 2 hrs of screen time, now I get just over an hour. I'm thinking this is the battery itself, since I've switched kernels and ROMs several times, with the same result.
Is there any way to test the battery for quality? Other than my subjective opinion that it seems to be draining faster, is there a reliable way to test whether its lost its ability to properly drain?
Flash Stock Rom and enable automatic brightness. If you can get 3 hrs of screen on time everything is normal.

So I've been trying to figure this out for about a month now, but seemingly, no matter what ROM I'm on, I don't get the battery life that others have been getting. These are the ROMS I've tried ever since I've been having issues:
Gingerbread:
Blend
Calk 2.92
Unofficial ICS
ICS:
Re-Calked
Rubix Xcel
tFH13
Blu Kuban (current)
The best battery life I've ever gotten on my phone was on Blend 2.6 with Desperado Kernel and I forget which modem. I got 2 days (mostly standby) but with usage I'd get many hours of screen on time. However even when I try and go back to that setup and let it settle, I can't replicate that battery life for some reason. Now, no matter what ROM I'm on I get about 12-16 hrs with mostly standby and 8-10 with usage. The lower end of the range is with my original battery. The higher is with a fresh new one. I also use the Placebo's (for ICS) Originally dietpill but now placebo 2.0. To monitor what's going on I use BetterBatteryStats, GSAM Battery Monitor and CPU Spy. Whether my phone is getting deep sleep or idling at 200 mhz the battery drain is the absolute same. Whether wifi is on or off it's the same. I may add screenies later but what I typically see in each app:
CPU Spy:
Mostly 200 mhz or Deep Sleep but again the drain is the same
GSam:
Kernel 40-90%
BetterBattery:
The longest bars are
Other:
(If wifi on)
Wifi On, Wifi running (both blue)
No data Connection or Unknown signal (both blue and stretching across the screen)
Kernel Wakelock:
wlan_Wake
(if wifi not on) power manager or alarm
Partial Wakelock:
Audio Out_1
Alarm Manager
Process:
(If Gingerbread)
System
Event
(If ICS)
All the kworker's
My brightness is always low, accounts and sync is off and for good measure each app is set to sync manually or the highest interval they can (4 hrs or never), roaming is set to sprint only, I calibrate the battery after bump charging to 100 quite a few times, signed out of gtalk and lattitude, weather widget is set to sync manually, Motion is off, haptic feedback is off, screen timeout is 30 seconds, but I still get bad battery life. I' e tried undervolting -50, setting screen off profiles, using smartassv2 and lazy governors, and underclocking to 800 but the battery life is still bad and then there is a performance decrease. Please help! Idk what else to do to get that fantastic battery life others have been getting.
I was getting the worst battery for the longest time. I ended up bringing my phone to Sprint and they looked at the battery and placed it on a flat surface and spun it, it spun for a while and they declared the battery bad. They ordered me a replacement battery and meow I'm getting fantastic battery life.

What is your screen on time?
All that "2 days battery", and a "day" is not good for the health of your battery.. To get that time, that means you are constantly draining your battery to low levels and that's not good..

Well, I guess the main reason is because the battery of this phone sucks.
I tried every combination possible in the forums but the battery still sucks. Anyway, what I did is restocked the phone to the rooted version and re-clibrated the battery and then let it settle for a couple of days. I now get a very decent battery and by decent I mean acceptable to me...

Yeah I don't know how people can just flatly say the battery on this phone sucks. It did for a bit with the software we had, but that wasn't a physical phone/battery issue. Now after FF18 and FH13 I get 30+ hours, and I USE my phone. Recently I've had to get to work around 7:30am and don't get back til about 9:30 and on average I'll have 65-70% left. I'd say that's pretty damn good.
Gsam w/my average battery life.

I recently started using DX Battery Saver, part of Team Venum's cRaCk_StOcK FH23 ROM, and it's a god send. The biggest thing I've noticed is with my bad reception where I work, I keep 3g turned off and this has quadrupled my battery life, You can still make calls and send/receive text messages. If I need data I turn it on but otherwise it's off.

Exactly. Is it really THAT inconvenient to plug a USB cable in from time to time? I had an OG iPhone and I had to charge that piece of crap constantly. It wouldn't even make it 8 hours in my pocket at work. Is 14 - 20 hours that horrible?
Aokp battery life... No suck here at all.
Wait though, so you guys are saying it is bad to fully discharge your battery before charging again?? Argh I hear so much different stuff all the time I don't know what is true or false. I thought charging it too often was bad? I always take mine down to 1-3 percent before charging it and I get pretty amazing battery life no matter what rom I'm on. So am I hurting my battery then?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
I work at a battery shop. Granted its mostly car batteries, but deep cycling any battery is hard on it. Personally I avoid going below 10 percent if I can help it. That being said, I wouldn't throw it on the charger until around 50 percent. Every battery has a limited number of cycles. So unnecessary charging will reduce battery life as well.
Constantly reversing current flow is almost as bad as draining it completely. Fast charging is also bad news. The slower you can charge any battery, the better. So steer clear of any chargers or apps that promise shorter charging times. They will just generate more heat. And as we all know a hot battery is a bad battery. I actually mount my car dock right next to my vents so I can keep it cooler as it charges. I use an OEM Motorola charger because it controls the voltage. My old moto back flip wouldn't work with a generic charger that didn't have this voltage control. Now I won't use anything that doesn't have it. Got it on amazon for 6 bucks.
Yes I know a lithium ion battery is not the same as a car battery, however all batteries work on the same premise, just different chemical makeups. I've seen batteries explode, catch fire, and boil themselves dry. A swollen battery is extremely dangerous even at these low currents and voltages. Any swelling OR becoming concave means get yourself a new battery.
Question for ya Phoenix
I'm constantly looking for good battery life, and I really have no complaints (kuban w/ stock governor, although trying wheatly based on a couple recent posts I read in kuban dev so we'll see what happens). I do charge every night, naturally, and with ~2 hours screen on (lots of texts, browsing/games, an hour of music, ~30 minutes talk time), I'm usually ~30% (unplug at 9am, plug in at 9pm).
Here is the question:
Just now, I was at about 25% battery life.. I changed my governor from hyper to wheatly, and then rebooted.. when it came back on, I immediately got the low battery warning and it showed I was at 5% battery. What would cause that? It's done this before, but usually I'll just lose 5-10% on reboot..
Just to clarify, I'm a pretty heavy user on my days off.. 4g, hotspot, and 10+ GB a month.. I've only discharged below 15% maybe 7 times since I got the phone about 6 months ago.
I've my had my battery percentage drop by as much as 35% on a reboot
Been using the 2100mAh since I got my Vzw Nexus. Yesterday, I had it on WiFi at home with a solid connection all day with sync off, maps disabled, and GPS/Bluetooth/everything off. I got 2 hours and 53 minutes of screen on time at 30% brightness. With WiFi on entirely and 5 bars of it...I would expect closer to 4 hours of screen on time...and I would see that back during the ICS days. Currently running Rascarlo with Trinity a67.
Think its time for a new battery? This is by far the best ROM and Kernel combo results I've seen on terms of battery life. How long do you guys keep your batteries for?

I've had my battery for quite a while running CM10 + Franco Kernel. The newest Franco Kernel when it comes to battery life is INSANELY good, I was starting to think the same thing as you but man... Franco Kernel changes my battery life and it barely ever drains.
You could try a different combination of kernels to see if it helps. And there is a method to doing a full charge (google it) something involving fully draining it.
Do you have any wakelocks? use the app, BetterBatteryStats to find out.
Debug your phone before throwing money away towards a new battery.

I appreciate the response. I use BetterBatteryStats, GSam Battery, CPUSpy, and AutoStarts (for disabling everything related to Maps). I'll try out Franco's new kernel. Thanks for the tip. Edit: Which Franco kernel were you referring to? His latest nightly 290 or his latest Milestone 6?

Batteries last about a year charging once a day. If you run your battery dry a lot, expect to change sooner. My battery rarely goes below 40% and I try not to let it go below 10% when it does. I fully expect a year and I am @ 10 months. If you run it below 20% often I would say you probably need to change it already. YMMV of course.
...
Is there any other way we could check to see battery health? I know in better battery stats under 'tests' you can see it says battery health is 'good' but is there any other way?
Possibly max and min voltages? Ie fully charged ~4200mv and fully drained ~3500mv

You're looking for an app that compares designed capacity (1720mAh? I don't even know how much our phone has..) with actual capacity (which would probably be around 1500mAh after a year). I don't know of one, but if it helps, that's what you're looking for!

is it just me or is the kitkat ROM really sucks----battery pretty well?
I also notice that the CPU usage does not drop to 20 percent idle but when I used other ROM (JB based) it becomes 5 percent.
RAM usage is good but I think it hogs the CPU. I used cpuz on measuring the cpu usage

Where can I get the JB rom for OGP?
For me, Android was best at JB and went backwards with KK.
Yes, I've noticed absolutely horrible battery life with KK. KK just feels like it is several different parts all just thrown together.
The only reason I think is that theoretically JB uses more battery is that the system uses more voltage than the kitkat. however, what's less voltage use if the CPU is always busy and wakeups are just everywhere.
Hi guys, maybe you could post in some battery stats so we could know more about whats draining your battery in particular and suggest some fixes. I've actually experienced the opposite with kitkat-battery life for me improved. There was even an instance that I got the phone to last 30 hours, with 5 hours, 48 mins. screen. On another instance I got 15 hours life and 5 hours 25 mins screen on. I just lost the screenshots as I had to reflash stock when i was doing some G3 mods., but nevertheless i could post some new ones.
I value batter life was well and i'm curious to see how yours could be improved too..

What a battery life. 15 hours screen time?
how can we accurately measure? because I only use CPU-Z and installed DS battery saver to save power. right now it only used 2% of my battery during the night. (from 1:45 - 5:50am)
I see. can you tell me what app should I use to determine CPU usage of each app/service?

No, my battery lasted 15 hours, and my screen-on time (total time i spent using the phone) was 5+ hours coz i basically used my phone then for gaming the whole day I suggest you download gsam battery monitor app (it also has a temperature_bat. Usage graph), as well as wakelock detector. Another alternative would be better battery stats. What you would need to observe would be the apps and wakelocks draining your battery both when you are using your phone, and also when its idle.
I also notice that battery capacity is 2A in which it should be 3.140A right?
this shows on kitKat but on jellybean, it's 3.140A again.
is there something wrong with the detection of battery capacity?

What happened was that in kitkat, the permisssions required to be able to access battery stat files changed. Thus, apps w/c could freely access the batter stats in JB cannot gain complete access in Kitkat. This is the case for some battery monitor apps w/c now have lesser accuracy in reporting battery. No worries though, as there are means to bypass this problem. If you have xposed you could install a module for this. Also, some apps like gsam battery monitor come with a separate root companion app. Once you install those batter stats will be accurate.
Here's a screenshot of my battery stats for today..might not be 5+ hrs of screen on as i did a lot of rebooting today (themed with g3 tweaksbox). Nevertheless, this is just to show that kitkat has the potential to provide good battery life. Also enclosed is a screenshot of one of the battery apps i use, gsam.
Hey everybody! I have some findings I absolutely must share so you can benefit as well.
I've been doing some tinkering and I've find a way to significantly increase battery life on the OGP.
First thing you'll want to do is put your phone into airplane mode.
Second, turn your screen brightness down as low as it will go. I mean, all of the way down.
Third, don't play any games on your phone.
Try those three tweaks and see what kind of battery improvement you get.
Unfortunately, Camera has stopped.

Just so you know, first my cell radio and wifi were both on the whole time. Second, i was on auto brightness the whole time. Third, i played clash of clans as you see in there.
If you have not done this already, adjust your cpu to save your battery juice. Set the cpu governor to powersaver or interactive mode if you just using the phone to send msg and make calls. I let my phone run on msm-dvcs and when I'm not plug in. Check out ROM toolbox if you're rooted. Seriously folks, instead of complaint about how much the roms suck the juice, try these different ways to see they make any difference for you.
