Battery problem - Defy General

I'hv flashed cm7 last week. The problem is that my defy battery drains too fast as compared to stock Froyo. I have calibrated its battery correctly. Also phone always remains hot. I am looking for solution but didn't get proper solution. Plz help..

I've noticed the same, since flashing CM 7.1 my battery will barely last the day, I don't think it's going into deep sleep.

I'm having the same problem

When I flashed CM7 the second time recalibrated and deleted battery stat battery life improved...now i get about 35-40 hrs on one charge.
But of course there are many factors that contribute to battery life and our devices won't be the same.

Not proper solution yet..

I had problems too but after the Calibration the battery works just fine.. try Calibration again

Thanks to all..will post after getting my problem solved.trying cm7 stable..

I tried cm7 stable..here battery is draining more quickly..is there any ROM for better battery performance..?

can you give us some numbers and specifics about your usage ? its not possible to give any view point or explanation till we know whether you are running on 2g or 3g wifi on/off etc etc .

that your phone remains hot can be caused by two things (in my experience): your cpu is always on 100%, or your gps is on. First of all, try wiping battery stats from recovery when fully charged, than let it discharge. secondly, try using setvsel to control the frequencies. if your battery still drains fast, check whether its water damage indicator is red (the - originally - white sticker near the battery pins), cuz mine is red, which means it was contacted by water, which couldve caused a short, and till then my battery drains much faster.

You can use cpu spy from market to see what is your cpu doing and the times for each state. Check if it's going to deep sleep.

I always keep my GPS, wifi off.
CPU is undervolted at minimum values as 300-16,600-26,1000-46.
I've already calibrated battery.
My battery statistics are: (approx.)
Display- 40%
Android system- 10%
Phone idle -15%
Cell standby- 10%
Android OS -5%
Remaining- other apps
Display is taking 40% while I always keep it at minimum brightness.

I finally got solution.. My defy's battery performance improved a lot. I have installed wakjiui ROM and calibrated the battery and it was unbelievable. Using it since last week. Almost doubled battery performance. At night it drains by only 2%. And one more thing about wakj ROM is it is perfect combination of miui and some apps from cm7. .

i got 48 hours.. sometimes more using MIUI .. highly recommend you to use it!

It is based on miui.

Kernel Advice

I have poor battery life on my desire, it barely lasts 7 hours. I have tried wiping battery stats etc, and have the screen brightness at 50%. I have read that some kernels can greatly improve battery life, is this true? If so, which would you recommend, and do I just flash it like I would a rom? I am using the latest miui.
Cheers,
Steve

They can but finding the underlying app causing the phone not to sleep would be what I'd be looking at. Remove all installed apps and add them 1 at a time and see how the battery goes

Yeah i've tried this, there's nothing draining the battery.
Not at all
Such battery drainage can only be induced by either heavy usage, or phone not being able to go to sleep.
The differences between kernels in custom roms are merely a shades since all of them are pretty much battery efficient. You won't miraculously jump from battery life of 7 hours to 30 hours. Concentrate on your apps or even better, third party Widgets.

Probably a hardware fault then - the OS on it's own with no apps installed shouldn't drain a battery that quickly. Did you also turn off the sync options to test that theory?
Personally sounds like a knackered battery/phone
If it isn't apps/widgets (they are the culprit for heavy usage) then it would prob be a faulty battery. I did a little test last month to see how much battery I could lose in 24 hours. I lost 8%. I guess it could be a baseline to start off with.

CM7 Battery life

Currently I have cm nightly 12 on my phone with incredikernel 2/27 and having a hard time finding this amaging battery life everyone is talking about.
I have screen brightness down and disable autosync using the power control widget. I have one widget, five icons and one screen. I have smartass governor on with 128/998 settings.
I also am using an extended life China battery. It had decent life with stock sense rom + incredikernel but still was not great.
Is it the battery? Is it my settings? Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

The batteries im using are 3500mah batteries i bought from ebay. I've been charging them occasionally in a wall charger.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
My guess is that it is your battery. The OEM 1300mah battery that came with the INC is probably better than that crappy no-name brand. I have the stock, used incredikernel and i was able to get almost 2 full days out of it with CM7.
EDIT: saw you have the 3500mah, most likely that is only about 75% of what is advertised. So its probably about 2700mah. How much do you use the phone throughout the day?
Not much... Thru the week it stays in my pocket with screen off.
On the weekends I check dealnews and might get in a few minutes of angry birds... But its nowhere near the claims made of 20-40 hours of moderate use.
Feels like its jumping 3% with every web page.

I took it off the charger 5 minutes ago, down to 95% and battery usage states 72% is due to the display.
Went in there and turned off animations to see if that helps.
I also found out with clock work install awhile ago, I have an slcd screen. Im assuming they get worse battery life than amoled?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
No change .... now down to 90% and screen has been off.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
It may just be that battery is really horrible. Do you still have your stock battery. Try using that and see the life you get out of it. I just have a feeling, no reason why, but that battery you got is a real dud.
And yes the SLCD screens do use up more power than the AMOLED screens. I don't know if it's that much, I doubt it, maybe try with the stock CM7 kernel and see what kind of life you get?
Bump charging, even if it's only for 20 minutes while you shower and shave and eat breakfast, will really help your battery life all day. I find that if I don't do it I see my battery losing its charge much faster even after it loses its initial 5-10%
Back on my stock battery... turned off or uninstalled everything I can.
I usually leave it on the charger all night while I sleep...
Thinking about returning to stock to see if that helps battery.

What are your GPS settings? Is network location on? What about wifi is it on? If so what's your sleep policy set to. Both of these settings made my batterty drop like a brick on cm7. Another note have you used spare parts to see what is consuming your battery. Is it partial wake locks or a specific app.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
GPS off
Wifi on when I use it. I've got power control widget on my home screen. Network location is off. Wifi sleep policy is default choice (off when screen off), however I don't typically leave it on.
Haven't been in spare parts but have made it to a usage graph I didn't fully understand.
The usage I see says its all the screen. 72% display.
According to spare parts usage... over last 11m wifi has most battery usage.
Only one app with partial wake and that's craigslist Notifier. Lower than android system however.

Went back to stock cm7 kernel to see if ondemand governor is any better battery wise.
I'm still seeking this 20 hr's moderate use I keep hearing about.
Incredikernel seems to use more battery in wifi... stock is much lower.
Of course I don't know if this is fact with all the other variables.
I don't think I'm being greedy... just trying to find a setup which will afford me using my phone everyonce in awhile without living on a charger.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
!The display should be around that amount depending on how long its been running. I'm at 74% display and that with 2hr 42m of display on. It consumes the most amount of power of anything on the phone.
I've read a couple threads that cm7 has issues with the wifi sleep options and that it needs to be set to never for best battery life. At first thought it doesn't seem right be it helped me out.
In spare parts under usage stats anything jump out at you as being excessive. I doubt it but it'll let you know if an app is running to much.
Also look at the graph under setting battery if you a seeing a bunch of activity when the display is off then it could just be a lot of emails or something is syncing that we don't know about yet. If the display off and awake lines are close then you've done everything you can to Max out your battery.
At this point I suggest you try to bump charge the phone and then wipe the battery stats from cwm I was having an issue at first with cm7 n12 of my phone only charging to 94%. Maybe you are having a similar issue.
Just for comparison today was a mild day of usuage for me on the stock battery my phone has been on for 11h36m and as I said earlier a little under 3 hours of screen time. My display is around 35% brightness and I have 30% battery left. Also on a side note I'm using the incredikernel 128min and I'm under clocked to 800mhz.

with kernel 2.6.37.2 cyanogenmod+slayer it last me 24 with moderate phone use

[Q] Weird CyanogenMod (nightly) Battery Usage stats.

I have a desire z and I am using a recent nightly and loving it but I have one concern my battery usage stats are like these:
After Charging and letting it go standby at night:
When I woke up after 7 hours battery was %89.
Usage was: Cell standby : %46
Phone Idle : %41
Display: %7
Wi-Fi : %5
Now you may tell me it is normal to have only cell standby if I let it go standby but even if I use a lot of gps and google maps for around an hour maybe it still show a lot of cell standby. And when I am using the phone I feel like it drains the battery a lot.
Are these stats normal. I remeber on my stock rom My display was always eating the battery like %40 %50 ish now display never shows above %10 even if I use the phone a lot!
Is this because of radio? Should I try different radios? I had radio that came with downgrade of my Desire Z and than I flashed the neww Bell radio.
Please help cause I am not sure if this is normal.
Noone ? any idea?
I'm on CM7 #186 since Sunday and my battery's live is slightly higher than with stock Gingerbread.
I recommend that you install "Battery Monitor Widget". It uses a lot of RAM, but it has some pretty good statistics what's using the battery.
About the display: I think in stock the battery display stats are wrong. Mine had always 70%. On CM7 it's 7% right now after two working days and moderate news in the evening. Phone idle is 43% right now.
Probably the display usage is wrong on stock rom but i am not really sure. I will try that app you recommend thx.
So my stats arent that weird.

Battery drain

Hey guys I was just wondering if you could help me with a problem, I plugged my phone in last night and it charged to 100 percent, and I unplugged it before I went to sleep, and I woke up three hours later, looked at my phone and it had 89 percent battery
11 percent drain with no use in three hours.. Can I ask why? Im rooted with the stock rom no custom rom or kernels or anything.. I'll attach my stats

Btw that battery monitoring app you see on I got after I woke up and saw that, I was thinking. An app drained my battery even though the usage shows none
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
It's normal
There's no battery drain
Android consumes a lot of power
Sumtims I wake up nd c 80% left after 6-7 hrs, Sumtims its 50%
Sometimes Evn background apps consume (more than normal) power for some download or some process. You don't need to worry
Use antutu battery saver when you are sleeping (phone will lag if its running wile u r using d phone, so use it only when u don't need to use d phone for a long time) but it really saves a lot of juice.
(or any other battery saver u want)

Have you tried completely draining it, charging it up to 100%, calibrate, then just using it normally?
Or you could also use SetCPU to make profiles for when your phones is idle and so on.
Just suggestions, even though it's mainly for people who flash ROMs and so one, but worth a try.
Look at cell standby and the fact your roaming ....you are in a bad coverage area and lost signal and radio searches for signal will drain power ... if you had great coverage you can expect like 2 % per hour

Well I should calibrate because I had to restore my nandroid but I thought that would restore like the older battery stats so maybe a calibration Might help lol

phone overheating and massive battery drain

My phone will overheat when im not even using it, that is i have it sleeping with no apps in the background and it will still overheat. the battery drains very quick at the moment its been 23 minutes on battery and the battery has already gone down by 20%. when i go to the battery use the android os seems to be using the most battery at 56%. I tried flashing to a custom rom from stock rom in hope that the issue would be fixed but still no luck. any ideas?
Search for BetterBatteryStats and how to use it to check for wakelocks.
I think you should take it back to customer service center, as it looks like hardware issue.

If your cpus are locked at high frequencies, that may result in that behavior. Use cpu spy to see the used frequencies and times.
