I just got this new g3 after bricking my last sg3 last week. this is brand new SG3 ATT just rooted OK, installed TWRP. OK, install goomanager OK, download aokp_d2att_jb-mr1_build-4.zip, and gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip, used TWRP to install and am now stuck in AOKP with first message after booting "Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped". then after that "unfortunately setup wizard has stopped".
and I can't get into recovery. I can only get into download mode. and I can use ODIN, By the way when connect to my desktop I have access to both internal and ext cards.
I don't know what to do next? I am afraid to make it worse or brick AGAIN. can anyone give direction. PLEASE
should I re root with odin?
Those the wrong Google apps for your build. You need the latest ones. You didn't use goo manager to download them did you ?
I suggest you download Task's AOKP and the correct 20130301 google apps. Those are the ones for 4.2.2.

Go into recovery by holding VOL UP : HOME : PWR BUTTON simultaneously. Your phone should boot up into recovery mode (whichever one you have installed). WIPE system, data, cache, and dalvik cache (this very highly recommended). Install the ROM and GAPPS mentioned in the respective order mentioned. Reboot and you should be good to go.
Worst case, should nothing work and you can get into download mode and Odin. But I don't see this being necessary.

I tried that it will not go into recovery. So I can use odin in download mode but what should I install? I can't find these in tar format?

Getting into recovery mode can be a pain. Removing the battery and using the above directions will solve the issue.
Tips for flashing any Rom:
1- read the Rom thread and download required files.
2 - boot into recovery
3 - do a nandroid backup
4 - format system
5 - factory data reset
6 - format dalvik cache
7 - format cache
8 - flash Rom
9 - reboot and let sit 10 minutes
If running a non touchwiz Rom reboot back into recovery and flash gapps include in Rom thread. Wipe dalvik cache and cache and let sit 10 minutes after boot.
Some users do steps 4-7 three times to ensure proper wipe.
Following these steps with any Rom will ensue a proper install.

There is a sticky that has the .tar files as well but I have uploaded the UCDLK3 stock+root to he used in Odin. Here is a link to it root66_ATT_I747_UCDLK3.tar.md5 http://d-h.st/ONT
Hope this helps ya out. PLEASE READ THE STICKYS FOR HOW TO USE ODIN AS WELL. The link above is what I used so check the md5 and verify it after you download it to make sure it is the same as the .md5 listed on the link page.

Hi all, I was on AKOP's milestone ROM before trying to flash their newest one. I did not do anything to the kernel or anything by the way.
I'm using ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.2.7 and I rebooted into recovery and flashed super dark side wipe and then JB-MR1 and then gapps.
I went through the entire start up process with inputting your information and then finally I got into the actual home screen. I clicked around to see how the UI looked and then decided to reboot through the menu.
It was in the rebooting animation icon for at least 30 min before I decided to pull the battery. I want to wipe and start again but my cwm recovery isn't installing anything.
EDIT: The phone still works as I can boot into the phone and use it. I'm trying to reboot now: power button hold>reboot, but its taking ages still...need help on this reboot thanks
Any help here?
EDIT 2: Pretty much phone is "functional" but any method of trying to reboot or reboot into recovery fails
Thanks all!
Check the Md5 hash to make sure it is a good download.
Otherwise it sounds like it is CWM that can be causing issues.
Which version of gapps are you flashing?

Checked the Md5 with an app and it matches up perfectly with akop's main website.
I'm running 6.0.2.8 cwm. Is it even possible that its cwm? I used the same version to flash AKOPs new ROM.
and im flashing gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip
Does it have anything to do with my kernel?
You aren't supposed to use super wipe with cwm 6. That is probably your problem.

Thanks so much for pinpointing the problem! Is there a fix to this?
And is this the recommended method of flashing? (Taken from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1926754):
1. Wipe factory data/reset
2. Wipe cache
3. Go into mounts and storage
4. Format /system
5. Format /data
6. Format /cache
7. Enter advanced
8. Wipe dalvik
9. Flash ROM then gapps
10. Reboot and let the ROM settle for 5-10 minutes if flashing TW ROMs, this step is unnecessary for AOSP based ROMs.
11. (Optional) if flashing a new radio flash AFTER the ROM has been initially booted for the first time. No wipes are necessary when flashing a new radio but it HAS to be flashed after the ROM is loaded and settled in. Flashing a radio first and then a ROM has caused issues like the phone not even recognizing there is a network for it. ( phone remains in emergency mode )
Edit:
Pretty sure my phone is bricked now... in a continuous boot up loop... BUT i can still access recovery

Yes, those are the proper flashing instructions for CWM6.
It sounds like you have a soft brick. I think your best bet is to Odin back to stock. Have a look here:

You sir are a saving grace!
I'll try this at once!!
I have 2 questions though.
1. in regard to kernels. Do i need to do anything (aka change my kernel?) Or is the stock kernel suitable for 4.2.1?
2. If i cant boot into my phone to get to my SD card, how do i download and put files onto my phone?

Stock kernel is just fine.
Odin will flash the stock OS to your phone from the computer. Make sure to read the Odin directions a few times before trying it because it could hard brick if something goes wrong.

I'm trying to read through the thread you gave me but its kinda cluttered and its hard finding exactly where to start...pointers?
From the first post of that thread you will need
1. The prerequisites
-Odin
-Drivers
-Kies(dunno if this is mandatory but I guess it couldn't hurt.)
2. T-Mobile t989 uvlhi stock ROM(Odin)
You will need some type of zip software to extract the files from this.
3. Follow the steps under Installation - Odin installation(skip step 1)
After you get the stock ROM running you can install custom recovery and then flash your custom ROMs.

I have the Galaxy S III SGH-i747m model on stock Jelly Bean 4.1.1 ROM on the Canadian Rogers network. (I live in BC)
I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to install a custom ROM. I have rooted and installed Super User, and have flashed the TWRP Recovery ROM v2.4.1.0 I still have the stock kernel and haven't mucked around in the permissions besides installing SuperUser SU app from Google Play store. Right now, I have managed to wipe out my entire internal storage. I have everything backed up on the google server, so I'm not too worried, but I have no OS right now. Regardless, I have tried many times with many different custom ROMs, and everytime I get a Status 7 error and a failed ROM flash. I have been trying for weeks to find out what I'm doing wrong, but can't seem to find anything that works. Can anyone please help me out with a step by step guide to install a custom rom? Heck, even to re-install my stock ROM would be better than nothing at this point. The last guide I tried to follow was Cyanogenmod 10.1. The file was called Liquid Smooth.
I currently have the ROM file and the gapps pakage on my external SD card, but, everytime I try to install it I get that Status 7 error.
Thanks in advance.

make sure you have the correct ROM and gapps (compatible with your model). then i would try a different recovery.
you could download this flashable clockworkmod recovery zip and place it on your external sd card: http://d-h.st/8qP
it's not a touch version. you'll have to use the vol up and vol down buttons to navigate and the power button the select.
in twrp, mount external sd and then flash the CWM recovery like you would a rom. reboot into recovery.
make sure the external sd is still mounted and flash ROM & gapps twice. reboot

if you can get into download mode, i'd try restoring via odin
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968625&highlight=stock+firmware
1. Extract contents of the zip/rar archives
2. Wipe data-factory reset/cache/dalvik-cache
3. Plug phone into PC
4. Place the phone in Download Mode (vol dwn + home + power). Press volume up when prompted
5. Open Odin and ensure the COM box is highlighted, detecting your device
6. Uncheck the Auto Reboot option
7. In the PDA box, select the .tar.md5 file you downloaded
8. Flash the file by hitting Start
9. Once you get a Success message, pull the battery and then replace. Immediately go into recovery (vol up + home + power. release power button at Galaxy S3 logo and/or vibrate).
10. Select Wipe data/factory reset, then wipe cache. Reboot
you can then do some research and decide what files/procedures you want to try if you wish to root again and flash custom firmware
Thanks for the help guys. I am attempting to restore my phone right now. Will let you know how it went.
OK! Up and running! And I have it rooted with the latest TWRP recovery image installed. Now I just need to find a good custom ROM. Thanks againg guys!
I tied to flash the pac-man 4.2.2 ROM to my rooted s4. It worked but all the Google apps did not come with it... so I downloaded an app package off of GooManeger. I can get into download and recovery mode. Not really sure how to download anything on my phone right now as my computer doesn't recognize it anymore. My recovery mode is TeamWin. You need to start from scratch using ODIN and flash the stock/non rooted Tmobile Samsung Galaxy S4 M919 firmware.
(using download mode in the phone)
Here is the download link: http://www.hotfile.com/dl/213469534/9ff06bd/M919UVUAMDL_M919TMBAMDL_TMB.zip.html
After the odin flash you will need to root the phone unless you want to keep it stock.

You may have wiped the /system folder which may explain why your phone is stuck on the booting sequence. As the poster said above, use Odin to flash the stock MDL and root again. As far as your computer not recognizing it. Put the phone into download mode (Vol Down + Home + Power), plug the phone into a different USB port (and let the drivers install if it's the first time you're plugging your phone in that port for Windows users), and then open up Odin and flash the stock firmware from there. Let us know if Odin recognizes your phone.

You need to have a working custom recovery first. Like Skipjacks stated, you flash ROM in the custom recovery.
I think you should start from the beginning and take it step by step.
I assumed at this point you're rooted on the stock ROM with stock recovery?
If not lets get to that stage and we can go from there.
-Stock ROM rooted with stock recovery
-Flash custom recovery
-Nandroid backup

I did it all with exception of flashing the ROM. Every time I try to flash the pacman 4.3 it fails. Any suggestions on how to fix that or should I turn my attention so a different ROM. I'm going for optimization and complete customization, without needing a launcher. Or maybe a suggested ave to customize touch wiz to the fullest.

So, I've never flashed or deeply modified an Android device before. I'm a professional programmer, BTW - and I just finished my first Android app for a customer, so I don't shy away from such things.
I have a Tab 3 7.0 Lite SM-T110 that my son went ahead and flashed...or something...but he hasn't been able to restore it to working condition. I tried today; I can't either.
He had installed CWM 6.0.4.8 and it boots into that when firing it up. I cleared the Dalvik cache, "wipe cache partition", and "wipe data/factory reset"...then tried installing the "full" and "lite" versions from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2780068
Both say they installed successfully but upon reboot, nothing changes. I see the Samsung boot logo screen and it goes right back to CWM.
Is there any hope in recovering this back to 4.2.2? I really need a Jellybean device to test on.
Thanks!

You need to restore the stock recovery. Go to sammobile.com firmware section and download the entire firmware for your device and flash it using Odin.
Edit: Here's a link to the U.S. version. http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/39024/T110UEUANK2_T110XARANK2_XAR.zip/

Cool, thanks. I had downloaded the "Unknown" version since I didn't see one for US. Will give it a shot. Appreciate it.

If you want to just flash the stock recovery only, this post has it.
Thanks again. I'll have to take a look this weekend. I'm at work and use OS X there, so Odin will have to wait. I download the Java alternative "JOdin" but it doesn't seem to want to connect to my device. Meh.

Flash this zip in CWM. Then select the "Reboot Recovery" option. It should boot into the stock recovery. Then try to reboot into the system.

That worked! Back in bidness now...thanks very much. Will hang onto that file for future fubars on this tablet.
I went to the dark side in April 2016, and haven't flashed anything in about 2 years. Wife's tablet (flo) needs an update, MM is getting laggy though the tablet has always been good to us.
Titanium was getting to be crap around the last time I used it, with problems mostly restoring, does that still hold true? Might just use it to back up a couple apps she uses a lot and just use Play Store to restore the rest. It's not really important, just curious.
Downloading the TWRP app, I know TWRP is installed but willing to bet it needs to be updated and the app can do that.
Tablet is near its EOL, not planning on rooting it if the ROM doesn't come pre-rooted. I have no idea what Magisk is.
So I'm gonna go into TWRP, wipe system, wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik. Flash ROM (going with Lineage 15.1). Now at one point 2-3 years ago the common wisdom was starting to become "flash ROM, boot ROM, reboot to recovery and then flash Gapps." Y'all still doing that? Or can I just flash Gapps right after flashing ROM and reboot then?
Bit nervous as I haven't flashed in a while, but also kind of exciting.
We've got Android 8.1 Oreo now... Working perfectly on our Nexus 7... You should check it out...
Any suggestions for which are the most stable roms to try? I'm in the same boat. I'm on android 6.0.1, stopped flashing things a while ago and it might even be official! But mine's running like a dog so think I wanna try something to jazz it up!
You should try pure Nexus rom based on 7.1.2 for ultimate good battery life. Oreo is Good but battery isn't the greatest.
Well i have been rooting for a bit.
My N7 2013 Flo is not rooted. It is unlocked.
I thought i have via adb fastboot put latest twrp on it...but i turn it off (go into bootloader) toggle into recovery...tarp is not there (triangle with red 'i').....
I dont want to go ballistic but I never would have thought I am having such a hard time putting recovery image onto it.
It is stock 6.1
CF root doesn't exist anymore...some say use majisk....that's not working....
Without a recovery tool....(twrp) nothing can be flashed..
AM I MISSING SOMETHING

Firstly, your stock 6.1 is ancient and obsolete. Here are detailed instructions to install a modern Android, TWRP and root....
https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/flo/install
ROM - https://download.lineageos.org/flo
native root solution, no need for CF, Magisk, etc. - https://download.lineageos.org/extras (install addonsu-14.1-arm-signed.zip and activate it in the developer options)
:good:

I did the 'install lineageOS on flo and installed TWRP latest. Seem like fastboot went into a slew of commands
and finished. I followed the steps to reboot into recovery and twrp is not there. Android dude opened with red triangle.
I have no clue whats up. I leave it sit, and it reboots into android splash screen and bootsup so i can use the tablet. I guess this is why I am soo perplexed. "Am i missing something?"

I think you have missed this step.... "Note many devices will replace your custom recovery automatically during first boot. To prevent this, use Google to find the proper key combo to enter recovery. After typing fastboot reboot, hold the key combo and boot to TWRP. Once TWRP is booted, TWRP will patch the stock ROM to prevent the stock ROM from replacing TWRP. If you don't follow this step, you will have to repeat the install." - https://twrp.me/asus/asusnexus72013wifi.html

Thank you for 'helping me'......I have googled this combo everywhere and tried it all. Nothing is allowing the tablet to populate into twrp.....
Perhaps its really not fastbooting twrp into the device

Wait, is Kevin_McLaughlin=ganggreen777 ?
Anyway, here is an alternative way:
- fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.2.3-0-flo.img (please copy the output and post it here)
- fastboot reboot-bootloader
- select recovery in the bootloader
That's it, but you must do it in this order or else TWRP will be gone again.

Why u asking???? Have we chatted b4?¿?
I will do as stated above (I swear I am (thinking) I am doing it as above all the other times. (when you say copy output...is that from the fastboot dialogue? ) ...is it as easy as copy paste ...I dont remember how to copy via adb fastboot...
(Makes me wonder if twrp is really being fastbooted into the n7 2013
Thanks for helping.

Did you try a factory reset immediately prior to installing it?

You need to do the following in TWRP:
(Optional, but recommended): Select the Backup button to create a backup.
Select Wipe and then Advanced Wipe.
Select Cache, System and Data partitions to be wiped and then Swipe to Wipe.
Go back to return to main menu, then select Install.
Navigate to /sdcard , and select the LineageOS .zip package.
next install the addonsu-14.1-arm-signed.zip (root addon)
and finally GApps (Google Apps) from https://opengapps.org/ - select ARM 7.1 pico
"Note: If you want any Google Apps on your device, you must follow this step before the first boot into Android!"
