I know this has been asked hundreds of times, and i searched the forums for days for a way to fix it, but with no use.
I have a rooted AT&T Galaxy SIII with JB 4.1.1. I am trying to install the CM 10.1(4.2.2) Nightly version, but i always get the infamous "Status 7 Installation Aborted" error.
Yes i am sure im downloading the correct ROM zip file for my phone and carrier.
I have CWM 6.0.2.1, and i followed the steps correctly. (Clear data -> Clear Cache Partition -> Clear Dalvik Cache -> install ROM)
I have tried so many times, i also re-rooted my phone, reinstalled CWM, and redownloaded different nightly versions of the ROM, as well as other ROMS like JellyBam.
I also tried to delete the assert lines in the update-script file, but that also wouldnt work.
Thank you. :good:
And please dont hate on me, im new to rooting and flashing. :crying:

if you can boot into the phone, download ROM manager and update your cwm recovery. latest version is 6.0.2.8.
CM10 and 10.1 are picky about you having the most recent version. cheers

Hi guys, I'm having same issue but on N7000 international version. I'm able to go in the recovery mode and download mode but phone won't boot normally. It's stuck on Samsung logo so can you please advise something? How can I update CWM if that's the issue. I was on ICS 4.0.4 XXLRK before trying to install CM10.1 on Note.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I would be doing my research in an N7000 forum, friend.
Also, your post seems confusing as you seem to be saying you also got a status 7 error but then you appear to have installed abroad and are stuck at the boot logo. If you successfully flashed the correct rom for your device without any errors, pull battery, replace and wipe data in recovery. Reboot

Apologies for both confusion and using the S3 that to find some help. I just found the situation quite familiar so I couldn't help myself from asking the question
On the situation, I was able to install CWM and am able to go to recovery or download mode but the error displays when I try to update the zip of any rom.

If the phone itself is functioning fine but you simply cannot flash a new rom or rom update, you need to update your recovery. Go to clockworkmods website and download version 6.0.1.2.

I would take up this situation in the correct forum. The more we discuss your device issues the more likey you are to download the wrong file or use a procedure not designed for your device software.
If you came from stock, flashed a rom and are stuck at the samsung logo, boot into recovery, wipe data and cache. Reboot to see if that helped. If not, seek advice in the N7000 forum. Cheers
Thanks for the guidance.
I have the Galaxy S III SGH-i747m model on stock Jelly Bean 4.1.1 ROM on the Canadian Rogers network. (I live in BC)
I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to install a custom ROM. I have rooted and installed Super User, and have flashed the TWRP Recovery ROM v2.4.1.0 I still have the stock kernel and haven't mucked around in the permissions besides installing SuperUser SU app from Google Play store. Right now, I have managed to wipe out my entire internal storage. I have everything backed up on the google server, so I'm not too worried, but I have no OS right now. Regardless, I have tried many times with many different custom ROMs, and everytime I get a Status 7 error and a failed ROM flash. I have been trying for weeks to find out what I'm doing wrong, but can't seem to find anything that works. Can anyone please help me out with a step by step guide to install a custom rom? Heck, even to re-install my stock ROM would be better than nothing at this point. The last guide I tried to follow was Cyanogenmod 10.1. The file was called Liquid Smooth.
I currently have the ROM file and the gapps pakage on my external SD card, but, everytime I try to install it I get that Status 7 error.
Thanks in advance.

make sure you have the correct ROM and gapps (compatible with your model). then i would try a different recovery.
you could download this flashable clockworkmod recovery zip and place it on your external sd card: http://d-h.st/8qP
it's not a touch version. you'll have to use the vol up and vol down buttons to navigate and the power button the select.
in twrp, mount external sd and then flash the CWM recovery like you would a rom. reboot into recovery.
make sure the external sd is still mounted and flash ROM & gapps twice. reboot

he has the rom and gapps on the external already.
if you can get into download mode, i'd try restoring via odin
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968625&highlight=stock+firmware
1. Extract contents of the zip/rar archives
2. Wipe data-factory reset/cache/dalvik-cache
3. Plug phone into PC
4. Place the phone in Download Mode (vol dwn + home + power). Press volume up when prompted
5. Open Odin and ensure the COM box is highlighted, detecting your device
6. Uncheck the Auto Reboot option
7. In the PDA box, select the .tar.md5 file you downloaded
8. Flash the file by hitting Start
9. Once you get a Success message, pull the battery and then replace. Immediately go into recovery (vol up + home + power. release power button at Galaxy S3 logo and/or vibrate).
10. Select Wipe data/factory reset, then wipe cache. Reboot
you can then do some research and decide what files/procedures you want to try if you wish to root again and flash custom firmware
Thanks for the help guys. I am attempting to restore my phone right now. Will let you know how it went.
OK! Up and running! And I have it rooted with the latest TWRP recovery image installed. Now I just need to find a good custom ROM. Thanks againg guys!
Hey guys I followed this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2235366
I used a file called "CF-Auto-Root-d2spr-d2spr-sphl710.tar"
Everything goes well and I get a green pass from oden3, the phone reboots. But superSU is not installed and when I check "Root checker" there is no root....
I have 4.1.2
Thoughts?
Just download superuser and simply place it on your phones SD card it's really easy

Your phone is not finishing the process it seems. After Odin says pass do you get a big red Android on the screen? If not flash the cf auto root file but uncheck auto reboot in Odin first. Then when it finishes, pull the cable and remove the battery. Reinsert the battery and manually boot to recovery by holding volume up+home+power and it should finish installing root.
I don't know what the post above me is taking about. Installing superuser isn't going to magically give you root. js

It wouldnt brick the phone but if you are seeing the red android then i was mistaken about what your issue is so disregard. Is your phone new? I bet the issue is related to one others are having where recovery cant mount partitions. To confirm that try this. Download this and place on pc http://goo.im/devs/billard412/d2spr/AUTOBOOT_RECOVERY/SPH-L710_TWRP_AUTOBOOT.exe
Its a odin one click that will autoboot you to twrp recovery just open it and click start with your phone connected in download mode.
Download this and place on your sd card. (preferably external)

It's basically the same thing. Cf auto root will install a special recovery made by chainfire and a cache.img with a root zip. It's supposed to flash that zip then restore stock recovery. I've never seen cf auto root fail to do the job so im not sure what went wrong.
But the way you did it was you installed your own custom recovery and manually flashed a root zip created by me instead. Only thing different here is that you still have that custom recovery instead of stock recovery now.

The custom recovery is the same with the exception that it gives you additional privileges over stock recovery. Like installing custom roms, so if you're planning on a custom rom soon then you may as well just stick with the custom one. I do however recommend you download goo manager from the playstore and updating your recovery to the newest with it before trying to flash anything. The recovery I gave you may be a little outdated. And if for any reason you want stock recovery back I'll make a odin tar of it and place it in this post

Personally I think the chances of your efs going bad are slim and a backup is more for paranoid people. With that said it never hurts to back it up. I just wouldn't restore it unless you have to.
Okay, I'm stressed. This is not how I planned it, I'll try to keep it short:
Wanted to do a full clean install of this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2504016
So what I did:
-Used odin (bootloader) to flash mj5
-Used odin (pda) to flash twrp
-Used twrp to flash rom
-Realised I forgot to wipe, so wiped everything, then wiped media seperate (enter yes to continue) then my N2 rebooted.
Now it's stuck in a boot loop. Teamwin screen keeps flashing every 5 seconds, never going into it.
-Re-flashed twrp via odin, didn't help.
Rom doesn't boot either, bootloop at samsung logo.
**** this is so not good for my stress levels
I have no clue how I broke twrp because I even re-flashed it via odin and still bootloop
Download mode still works thank ****
Okay good news, flashed philz recovery and works! Very happy that I have some sort of recovery back. Now flashing rom, hopefully it boots.
-First boot going on. Very happy now. Sorry for opening this thread, I get REALLY stressed REALLY fast. Once the rom is done booting (which looks like it's going to happen) this thread is not useful anymore, sorry!
-Booting for a few minutes now, stess level is rising...
-Still booting... damn!

However I didn't see this anywhere?
8) Now go to choose to install the rom zip file. If you using Philz recovery, make sure to untick "Don't Allow Old update-binary" if this option is avalaible.

Try with twrp 2.6.3.2 ,i know this is annoying that one needs to juggle between recoveries to get a rom to work
Shouldn't take more than 10 minutes for ROM to boot

Try with twrp 2.6.3.2 ,i know this is annoying that one needs to juggle between recoveries to get a rom to work

You can try like i said it's just trial and error which recovery works,so 2.7.0.2 and then if not work try with 2.6.3.1/2

I have NO CLUE what just happened.
I flashed twrp, and it rebooted. Recovery didn't boot, but phone booted right away! Rom is now on. Guess it's okay now.
Thanks for the help!

I don't think it was the fault of odin because I got it working later but the rom has many problems so I guess the rom is just broken. No time today but I'll change my rom soon.

ODIN is pure unreliable for me. I'm still using a version of TWRP I got last year and it's still more reliable than cwm or any other recovery.

I went to the dark side in April 2016, and haven't flashed anything in about 2 years. Wife's tablet (flo) needs an update, MM is getting laggy though the tablet has always been good to us.
Titanium was getting to be crap around the last time I used it, with problems mostly restoring, does that still hold true? Might just use it to back up a couple apps she uses a lot and just use Play Store to restore the rest. It's not really important, just curious.
Downloading the TWRP app, I know TWRP is installed but willing to bet it needs to be updated and the app can do that.
Tablet is near its EOL, not planning on rooting it if the ROM doesn't come pre-rooted. I have no idea what Magisk is.
So I'm gonna go into TWRP, wipe system, wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik. Flash ROM (going with Lineage 15.1). Now at one point 2-3 years ago the common wisdom was starting to become "flash ROM, boot ROM, reboot to recovery and then flash Gapps." Y'all still doing that? Or can I just flash Gapps right after flashing ROM and reboot then?
Bit nervous as I haven't flashed in a while, but also kind of exciting.
We've got Android 8.1 Oreo now... Working perfectly on our Nexus 7... You should check it out...
Any suggestions for which are the most stable roms to try? I'm in the same boat. I'm on android 6.0.1, stopped flashing things a while ago and it might even be official! But mine's running like a dog so think I wanna try something to jazz it up!
You should try pure Nexus rom based on 7.1.2 for ultimate good battery life. Oreo is Good but battery isn't the greatest.
Well i have been rooting for a bit.
My N7 2013 Flo is not rooted. It is unlocked.
I thought i have via adb fastboot put latest twrp on it...but i turn it off (go into bootloader) toggle into recovery...tarp is not there (triangle with red 'i').....
I dont want to go ballistic but I never would have thought I am having such a hard time putting recovery image onto it.
It is stock 6.1
CF root doesn't exist anymore...some say use majisk....that's not working....
Without a recovery tool....(twrp) nothing can be flashed..
AM I MISSING SOMETHING

Firstly, your stock 6.1 is ancient and obsolete. Here are detailed instructions to install a modern Android, TWRP and root....
https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/flo/install
ROM - https://download.lineageos.org/flo
native root solution, no need for CF, Magisk, etc. - https://download.lineageos.org/extras (install addonsu-14.1-arm-signed.zip and activate it in the developer options)
:good:

I did the 'install lineageOS on flo and installed TWRP latest. Seem like fastboot went into a slew of commands
and finished. I followed the steps to reboot into recovery and twrp is not there. Android dude opened with red triangle.
I have no clue whats up. I leave it sit, and it reboots into android splash screen and bootsup so i can use the tablet. I guess this is why I am soo perplexed. "Am i missing something?"

I think you have missed this step.... "Note many devices will replace your custom recovery automatically during first boot. To prevent this, use Google to find the proper key combo to enter recovery. After typing fastboot reboot, hold the key combo and boot to TWRP. Once TWRP is booted, TWRP will patch the stock ROM to prevent the stock ROM from replacing TWRP. If you don't follow this step, you will have to repeat the install." - https://twrp.me/asus/asusnexus72013wifi.html

Thank you for 'helping me'......I have googled this combo everywhere and tried it all. Nothing is allowing the tablet to populate into twrp.....
Perhaps its really not fastbooting twrp into the device

Wait, is Kevin_McLaughlin=ganggreen777 ?
Anyway, here is an alternative way:
- fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.2.3-0-flo.img (please copy the output and post it here)
- fastboot reboot-bootloader
- select recovery in the bootloader
That's it, but you must do it in this order or else TWRP will be gone again.

Why u asking???? Have we chatted b4?¿?
I will do as stated above (I swear I am (thinking) I am doing it as above all the other times. (when you say copy output...is that from the fastboot dialogue? ) ...is it as easy as copy paste ...I dont remember how to copy via adb fastboot...
(Makes me wonder if twrp is really being fastbooted into the n7 2013
Thanks for helping.

Did you try a factory reset immediately prior to installing it?

You need to do the following in TWRP:
(Optional, but recommended): Select the Backup button to create a backup.
Select Wipe and then Advanced Wipe.
Select Cache, System and Data partitions to be wiped and then Swipe to Wipe.
Go back to return to main menu, then select Install.
Navigate to /sdcard , and select the LineageOS .zip package.
next install the addonsu-14.1-arm-signed.zip (root addon)
and finally GApps (Google Apps) from https://opengapps.org/ - select ARM 7.1 pico
"Note: If you want any Google Apps on your device, you must follow this step before the first boot into Android!"
